I really thought this series was going to be talking about CURRENT stuff
by Jaster Mareel
I thought it was supposed to be the video leg of this site, not a museum of Harry's ebay addiction.
-
Good work, Harry. Love it! And I think you've got a nice balance with the "bleeping." I have a young-ish son who adores movies and I want him enjoying what you're doing, and the bleeps make it more possible for me to share it with him.

you're welcome

wrath_of_fett - Why? His show is whatever he wants it to be - relax, enjoy, or stop watching if all you are going to do is tell him what his show should be with petty criticisms. With all due respect, really.... His show is a fine example of what ANYONE can do, even you, with the internet and today's tools.
-
See...that was classic. *BLEEP* MICHAEL BAY! Not so much.
-
Good work, Harry. But I tend to agree with the cardboard boiler. You shouldn't have cut off his segment without a resolve about the stupid Halloween remake(s).

Jeeze Mass, I would of expected you would of seen the entire Baby Cart films much less even one. And no, Shogun Assassin dosen't count! (although it is probably the best re-edited and dubbed samurai film of all time)

Were you thinking of my husband when you made this episode? Lone Wolf and Cub is THE SHIT in our house!!! Awesome episode, Harry!!!

Not so long ago you used to BE THE FUCKING BOILER! That's why we came to this site in the first place. I remember you having a fucking SEIZURE over teh 30th anniversary Night of the Living Dead, and now you're like =Hey, the original is still there, so you need to chill=.

Of course, Harry gave me my shot at fame with "The Reluctant Astronaut," but everyone still asks me about "Three's Company." Shudder.

wrath_of_fett - actually, I fucking agree with you - but Harry wants kids to watch with parents being comfortable with it, and I can understand that even more
by Michael Lunney
-
Are you talking about the Shogun Assassin boxed set, the AMERICANIZED versions of the Lone Wolf & Cub films? Because that box set is about to get released on Blu-Ray.<P> Not the Lone Wolf & Cub films. <P> Which is what you said, in your video.
-
None.
-
Do some stuff which talks about current movies and mix old with the new, I'm thinking your show is gonna be epic down the road. Great job man, love it! Okay, that was more like seven words but hey, whatever.
-
High quality show and Harry knows his shit. He probably owns every talkbacker on this site.

Child-in-peril? Ummmm...ever heard of JURASSIC FUCKING PARK?
by Jaster Mareel
Seems like the first thing anyone would think of. In fact, it was the first film that was roundly criticized for that very thing.
-
Short but pointless.
-
Alright I don't like the bleeping. But I know by now that aicn is turning more mainstream if it hasn't already and nothing I can do about it. But FUCK was it fun when it started. You shithead kids today don't even know what we used to do. Finding pics of actors taking a fucking shit, that's what we had going on back in this site's prime, shit... Still I think tits are a serious necessity. No for real I'm serious. It's about the fag factor. I'm not gay, as a child had no idea what gay was, then I learned about it and became aware that certain things were gayer than others. Like seinfeld, not gay. Friends, totally gay. Michael Jordan, Not gay. Dennis Rodman, totally gay. Beakman's world, not gay. Bill Nye the science guy, totally gay. And on and on and on... You can tell what's gay and what's actually made by a man with a throbbing cock who loves titties and ass. This is kinda gay right now and that's not cool unless we get some tits. Boiler needs new topics. Bay sucking is hardly the worst crime in cinema. Lucas changing star wars so much and ruining it for little baby poo poo children. Why the fuck is superman not wearing underwear? Why we're getting 3 human centepede movies and no 3rd ghostbusters. You know what you need to do Harry? Create best of lists or lists for things in general. Top movies of the year or some shit, you know... *farts*

I thought it started out really well - the Fleischer stuff was great but just when it started ti get interesting everything ground to a halt and crashed back to the childish rubbish of previous episodes. So Massawyrm turns up and you kind of would have like them to talk about his movie. But nope, its just jolly japes with Harry trying to "educate" him. Sorry, is there any point to these shows at all other than stroking Harry's ego? They are not funny, they are not informative and what little interest they do have is thrown out so Harry can make more "jokes" and show what a child he is. Waste of time. Still, easier for Harry to shove out this sort of mediocre pablum than actually work on any decent articles for the site.

Harry I have analysed your video and present you with the results. - The fantasy world of your basement is great, but should be used mainly in linking segments - The talk with the man with the long hair was good, because it seems natural. That's what people like. Real talk between people...it's what all the best podcasts are based on. The more natural you can get, the better. Enthusiastic conversations are always interesting. - You don't need to add gimmicks like being displeased with other's knowledge or rubbing people out because it counters the naturalism of the conversation. *end*

Love the series! The boiler is AWESOME! I want to put him up against Marvin the Android and maybe Mr. Spock. I want to see someone throw logic off him and watch him pull a Bones McCoy x 10 and go apeshit on him to increasing degrees! P.S. I know you're in Texas - and a lot of the fanbase is. I'm taking my first trip there TONIGHT! Specifically to Dallas! Any great comic shops/cool places/theaters I could easily reach between tonight and Sunday night?

by pizzatheface
We got the real deal underneath in the talkbacks. No need to have them on the video too, eh? That way Harry can appeal to both crowds. Feel free to boil all you want down here!
-
...it really takes advantage of, and showcases, Harold's enthusiasm for cinema and knowledge of cinema minutia...maybe with some time once in awhile for quick interviews; while avoiding his weak points...like reviewing. It's a good direction for you Harold.

That's why I visit the talkbacks, for the snide remarks.

Harry - would you make changes to you show based on talkbacker feedback? Just wondering, since so many people feel a need to tell you how to do your show better
by Michael Lunney
I mean, shit, even I suggested you should have added more info on Fleischer to make him seem more interesting to the uninitiated- In any case, you know your shit, you love cinema, you love your toys and you make a living at this. Kudos to making something of your obsessions, while your detractors secretly wish they had your work....
-
actually - I gave them to my nephew who dearly loves SUPER FRIENDS - cuz I gave him my DVDs
-
I'm doing a 2 hour sit down with Douglas Trumbull in the morning. Nerdist still wants the show short - but we'll get the full thing up, hopefully. We've also got interviews already in the can with Greg Nicotero, Caroll Spinney, John Landis and Doug Jones.
-
Do I secretly wish I had Harry's job? Well, perhaps - not actually sure what it is he does to be honest. Very little in the way of contributing to this site, it would seem. But if he is able to finance a life, a wife, a mortgage, have holidays etc, just by his love of film then sure, I'd love that. And I make no secret of it. But then if the price for that role was that I perpetually had to be like a 13 year old rather than being a grown up, then I sure as heck wouldn't want that. Also, I'd like to think that, if I was making a career out of it, i'd like to work hard on being the best I could be in that role. Not sure I'd be content in putting out poorly written dvd reviews, or being too lazy to even spell-check things. So would I want Harry's "job"? Probably, if I could do it properly, make a career out of it rather than just cruise by one the coat-tails of an undeserved reputation. But thats just me.

There is something...I don't know...cozy about it. Great sound production and Art Direction, and Harry has a good voice for shooting the shit. I've collected movie props over the years (mostly replicas), so getting to see a part of Harry's prop collection (no, not the dildos) is pretty cool. Much of the assembled in the Talk Backs are worthless twats not worth pissing on if they were on fire. So I'm glad I ignored their usual bullshit to give these a chance. Harry's film reviews on the other hand...

If it weren't for the fact that amongst all of the bullshit, many talkbackers write better and make more valid points and arguments than Harry does. So Harry, if you're reading this....either do away with Boiler entirely or at least give him some respect. Oh wait, you clearly don't respect us, so.....maybe it is the perfect representation of talkbackers.

-
Harry's a YouTube sensa............bwaaaaahaaahaaahaahaahaaaaaa!!!! Sorry, I couldn't finish that with a straight face
-
..spunked me into this place about 10 years ago, i've noticed a few things. Most people are cunts, with a really small sense of self awareness or humility. Those that do exhibit these qualities are quickly crushed by tbers who mistake these traits for weakneses. Some tbers however seem to keep their end up (you know who you are) and manage to be on the right side of sanity and bad taste at the same time. Basically just like real life there are good guys and utter pricks, unfortunately the pricks shout louder and longer in here with no sense of what sarcasm or irony is, while the rest of us wonder if you even know what your little monkey wish paws are tap tap tapping into your c64. (oh and don't even bother jumping on me using the word 'cunt',i'm not being derogatory to women..substitute the word cock if thats your bag)
-
Wait, whhhaaaaAAAAT?
-
...with the bleeps, and boiler is perennially pissed off, just the way he should be.
-
MUCH, MUCH BETTER. You're gettin' it dialed in. I'm thinkin' that perhaps you could swing the pendulum back a little bit the other way again, and show just a wee little bit more pep next time, but overall I'm gettin a really good sort of Alton Brown - "Good Eats" vibe here. Very unique, and very original. As Martha Stewart would say, "it's a good thing". :-D Gettin better all the time Harry. Can't wait to see how you continue to make progress.
-
Will do. I was a massive Repo Man fan when I first met him and tried my best not to geek out. Very cool geezer. On that tour I also spent a weekend in the company of Mr.A.Cox. There was a lot of talk regarding Taxi Driver and Wicker Man (which ended up being restored for the very first 'Moviedrome' a couple of years later). He was impressed that I'd managed to see it when I was six (in 1975) on ITV's 'Fear On Friday' horror slot (thanks to a very tolerant and cool grandma).
-
I like the Talkbacker strawman Boiler. It lets us peer in to Harry's view of his audience. I'm not a fan of the bleeping. This is the internet. Unless Youtube is forcing you to censor, stop censoring.
-
but harry needs to work out the kinks....very unnatural and lacking flow
-
...control your potty mouth! I'd like my kids to be able to watch these Harry! I told Father Geek to have words about this you naughty boy... where's the Blade II review..?

Hope Fleisher's Hand becomes a regular element of the show, like the boiler!

And change the name of the boiler to talkbackers. It's us, we know, we get it. And let US write for it, create a topic and let us talk shit. That's Massa? OK cool. A suggestion to Harry to make the boiler in touch with us TBers
by Ricardo
Choose a random TBer for each episode and let him discuss with you on a recorded segment. You can dub in his voice with the boiler voice later. The TBer is not allowed to curse or to do personal attacks, he has to stick to a subject. That way, it's more of a debate and the boiler or you can win or lose.

-

I don't see why you bother talking to him. Harry is psychologically incapable of admitting a mistake - see "Brian Cox" and the Prometheus hoax. He is desperate to save face even though he has no reputation left.

Massa is my favorite reviewer on the site so cool to see him in this even though Harry had to school him in the Classics.
-
I made the mistake of going to "The Mist" screening in Austin. I am not a geek, so it was excruciating. I stood in line, while scary people babbled about "Frank and Stephen". I had to leave the follow-up discussion. It reminded me of some of my USC film screenings, when people asked the most cloying, brown-nosed questions possible. Weird.
-
In a previous TalkBack, in response to a post from Flynn Lives asking why Harry had not addressed his Prometheus gaff, Knowles said: I DIDNT WRITE THE REVIEW UNTIL AFTER I TAPED THE 2ND EPISODE, I REFER TO IT IN THIS EPISODE. So, Harry, where exactly do you refer to it in episode 3 of your video ego-trip? Because I watched it (even though it is uncomfortable watching a 40 year old man perpetually acting like an 11 year old female Justin Bieber fan) and you didn't comment on it at all. But hey, we got to see you play with your new dolies courtesy of Mattel, right?
-
Genuinely, I want to know, why is Harry still so over-weight? According to him, for over a year now he has had a demanding exercise regime that he gets into several times a week. How many times has he cited this as a reason for the delay on the dvd column or whatever? Now, I don't doubt Harry was ill a while or so back (although the supposed miracle recovery is a bit much to believe) and doubtless he has had to do some degree of physio as part of the recuperation process. But the picture he has painted of himself is essentially that of a ginger Rocky montage scene albeit in Austin instead of Philadelphia, pounding the excercise machines day in day out. And sorry, but that is not reflected in Harry's current look. Sure, he is not as fat as he once was but that body is NOT the body of someone who has been on an intense program of excecise for over a year. Now before people latch onto me for daring to talk about this, let me just say I really don't care if Harry wants to go through life overweight, I really don't. I just think it is interesting that he should promote himself so often as AICN's version of The Rock when in fact he is more of a boulder.

For shame, headgeek. To treat Massawyrm with such cavalier disdain.... I take umbrage with stuff like that there. Late breaking news bulletin, Harry: he's the ONLY above-average reviewer you have left on this site. God knows there's been a dearth of movie critical talent since Vern, Alexandra DuPont and (great writer albeit a colossal prick) Moriarty. You don't FART of the last remaining rose in the garden! You water it, feed it Miracle-Gro, whatever the fuck it is you do to sustain it. I'm not a Goddamn botanist; figure it out yourself. Or maybe you could mosey on over to his Amazon wishlist (provided he has one) and buy him somethin' nice. Seriously, Harry.... you need to man up and make this right. Thanks, dude.

Wait, I forgot the only reason this show is in a basement with Harry behind a bench is because he's so fat he can't walk. Jesus Christ.

Says Harry. Was that said ironically? Or was it a fucking joke? Eat a dick. NO! NO ACTUALLY! Leave the dicks alone and just eat donuts instead you fat fuck. Harry is beyond morbidly obese. Is there even a term for how fat he is? "Death bed obese"?
-
Don't bleep out your curse words. That gets irritating really fast, and forcibly reminds your core audience that they're basically watching a kids' show. Instead, choose milder words. 'Screw Michael Bay' instead of 'Fuck Michael Bay', 'crap' instead of 'shit' and so on. It'll be less intrusive and it'll sound more natural. Sorry if anyone has already suggested this; I haven't read the talkback yet.

Phenomena is Argento at his bug-eyed best (I way prefer him when he's getting into supernatural territory) and the Lone Wolf films are bionic.

The behind the scenes work on this has been fantastic and much kudos to all involved. The music is perfect, the set design is nice, the lighting and shooting is excellent. It looks really really great and Harry is a very cool engaging presence on screen if a teeny bit overbearing ("Have you seen the 5 japanese originals?") My only criticism of the show is it could perhaps run longer and Boiler should get more screentime. He's like the personification of the talkbackers with his generally positive outlook on things.

Would you please explain why your employees, which are a reflection of you and your site, think and care so little about ALL of your readership that they would alter talkbacker posts for the worse just for a little selfish laugh? once upon a time there were three newspaper titles in Ireland. The irish times, the irish press and the irish independent. the irish times was a created under a trust. Irish press press was run by the develera family and the independent was set up by a man called William Martin Murphy. but he was unliked by the unions. Independent was then bought by owner of Waterford, wedgewood and Heinz, Sir Anthony O' Reilley. and the O' Reilley family ran the independent group for decades. untill recently.... This is where Communicorp founder Dennis O brien comes into the picture, if you have followed the long running tribunals in ireland, the name o' brien will ring a bell because he was awarded the largest mobile phone contract in the history of the irish state. this was in the 1990's and fg were in power and Micheal Lowry had close links to O'brien. When the moriarity tribunal published its final report, O' brien and Lowry were not quite about the fact that the judge called them both corrupt. You do not cross O'brien. I should point out that O'brien owns 99% of the commercial radio sector in ireland. including irish stations news talk and todayfm. O'brien has Independent News and Media in his sights. Sam Smith the journalist who did more then anyone to set the moriarity tribunal. was fired by dennis O'brien after writing about the Moriarity tribunal and o'briens connection to the Mobile Licence. Proffessor Elaine Byrne who writes about corruption in ireland and lectures about it in trinity got a six page letter from O'Briens lawyers threatening her with legal action as did eamonn dunphy. Who was fired after making comments about the newstalk staff and saying that O'brien employed yellow pack journalists. If O'brien gets a controlling stake in INM, he will be the most powerful figure in irish media. He will own radio stations, Newspapers, and of course tele communications. all the media power in the hands of one man is not good. the point of all of this is that maybe that studios have harry where they want him and legal letters are a very good way of making sure that stuff is edited even in obits.
-
The idea that a studio can use Harry to alter the representations of people's opinions on the TBs ... fuuuuck. And with all the ugly little laws coming after SOPA, sites like this may have no choice but to alter posts lest they face a cease and desist order that can be held over them a long, long time. Freedom is on the march ... to oblivion.
-
Outside of Quint, who said he'd look into it and try to make it right, and Nordling, who has been working and has no idea what's going on, I've heard not a goddamn thing back.
-
Very odd editing showing Harry opening up the box as his friend is talking. Made Harry look very uncaring.
-
I used to have a love/hate relationship with this site, but it just turned to apathy. I've been getting increasingly pissed at Harry's mistakes, and the constant hypocrisy. There's no real news to speak of anymore. But the talkbacks kept me coming back, time and time again. There are some good people here, and too many of them got banned today. Was a fun ride (I think since 1999 for me), but it had to end some time. I'll keep Quint on Twitter and read his articles.

JOHN CARTER has made just shy of 270 million dollars so far nationally and internationally. How precisely is this a flop? I know the cost of the film and the marketing was high, but I can't imagine that they won't get back all they put into it and then some before all is said and done. Seems to me Disney's just pissed that this wasn't a 500 million plus blockbuster.

I don't think there are too many basements in Texas, though I could be wrong about that. I know they are very rare in California because of the ground, and I assume the ground is similar in Texas. Metroid fetish puts the proverbial nail in the coffin pointing out that Harry can't fucking walk, so there's no way he's getting in and out of that basement. It's too big to be a set, so maybe it's a garage?

@justmyluck - that 600 million number is widely disputed.
by Le Vicious Fishus
$250 million dollar budget and a *$350 million* dollar marketing implementation? I call utter bullshit. IF that marketing number were any way true, JOHN CARTER could be said to be the biggest film MARKETING flop of all time. The film itself (i.e., the money it cost to make it) has already turned a profit. Seriously. 350 million dollars in marketing? I want that fact corroborated by a credible source. In fact -- after doing a bit of research -- it looks like the JC marketing cost around $100 million. $250 million budget + $100 million marketing campaign = $350 million. So... the film has already amassed $270 million. Blu ray/dvd sales/rentals still on the horizon. Which means it only needs $80 million more to pay for itself completely. $600 million dollars my ass...
-
April 20, 2012, 2:13 p.m. CST
Hahaha. It only needs close to 100 million in dvd sales to break even. That's not a flop! hahaha. Yeah, OK.
by Scottie Richardson
-
Do you actually think that studios reap the entire revenue stream from a film's theatrical release? That $270 million that you quoted has to be split between the theatre chains and Disney. It's a sliding scale but it usually amounts to a 50-50 split in the end. While I do feel that the $600 million figure is over inflated there is no chance that John Carter makes a profit. I have read and heard from relaibel sources that the actual budget and marketing campaign was over $400 million. the film is probably going to top out at about $300 million world wide at the box office (150 goes to Disney) and may make an addition 30-40 on home video, broadcast and ancillary earnings. Thus explains the $200 million dollar loss reported by Disney.

The 50-50 percentage seems off, but you're right that the studio does not recoup all of the ticket sales. I think the studio gets a much larger percentage of the sales in the first few weeks, right? It just staggers me that any film could make that kind of bread and still be considered a colossal financial failure. Guess they should've spent a little less dough... Then again, I loved the movie even if the marketing scheme was a tremendous clustercuk. It may well be destined for cult classic status one day.

@justmyluck - I guess you're pretty easily annoyed, eh?
by Le Vicious Fishus
Stick around. AICN TB will tear your soul apart.
-
The system typically favors the studios during the first week although this is not always the case. It depends on many factors: how long the film is in theatres, upcoming release schedules, and pre-negotiated deals. The final breakdown is close to 50-50 (studio-theatres) but can sometimes be 55-45. The point is that despite the quality (or lack of quality depending on one's opinion) John Carter is a massive flop.
-
Otherwise that boring fuck Real Deal will post his usual dullstuff about how there is a facebook campaign with 23 people who want a sequel and that the film wasn't average and boring and badly acted at all but was absolutely brilliant, a masterpiece and the bestest movie ever made in the history of his limited knowledge of movies. Let's get back to other boring, badly made rubbish.... Aint It Cool with Harry Knowles for example. A show made for kids by a kid. Undemanding people, who are happy to accept uninformative rubbish from a 13 year old, folks, this is for you (I can imagine Harry's show is essentially porn for Real Deal).

Try again -- let's just look at the film's budget and compare it to other flops.
by Le Vicious Fishus
$250 million to make. Ok, it's made up for its cost plus about 8% and counting. SCOTT PILGRIM only made about 75% of what it cost to make, counting everything. ISHTAR, the quintessential bug budget flop, made back only 26% of its budget.
-
Ok, perhaps I can understand a few 9 year olds liking it but really, adults? I seriously cannot understand this. From the episodes I've seen so far the only slightly interesting thing was the Fleischer article... which got cut off just as it was getting interesting. The rest of it is just totally uninformative, dull, unfunny rubbish. The only entertainment is watching a supposidly grown man look like a silly little kid, crowing on about how everything is "so cool" and "totally awesome" and getting his facts wrong as per usual. Those of you who claim to lurve this are probably the same bunch who are content with AICN being the way it is. Personally, I think it is a total waste of time and serves to highlight just how totally out of his depth Harry Knowles is with just about anything apart from gushing about McDonald's Happy Meal movie tie-ins and little dollie action figures. Aint it Cool with Harry Knowles. A pathetic show hosted by a pathetic individual for people who will accept any shit they are served up with. I'm willing to bet that a large percentage of those people who are fans of Harry's show probably thought things like John Carter and Tron Legacy are examples of well crafted movies.
-
It is widely regarded as a huge flop. It cost 180 million to make and only made 70 million domestically. HOWEVER, the film made over 300 MILLION internationally, and the final BO stands at more than 372 million dollars (TWICE the amount the film cost to make). Even considering an expensive marketing campaign, there is no way this film was not lucrative. It's all about fucking expectations (specifically expectations of BO in the USA). Fucking weird, man.
-
I loved JOHN CARTER and TRON LEGACY and thought they were both very well crafted films (though imperfect) indeed. AND I pretty much agree with your points about Harry's videos (even if I'm not quite as passionate about them as you are). Kind of blows your mind, huh?
-

@darth - you never can tell until the "cream of the crop" reviews come out en masse.
by Le Vicious Fishus
I seem to recall JOHN CARTER reviews hovering around 85-90% early on. Still, I think it likely that this one will resolve itself > 80-85% when all is said and done.
-
Apologies, I was aiming for the lowest common denominator when linking Harry's videos to people who are undemanding - I've read some of your posts before and know you are not bracketted in with this lot, so possibly my choice of citing those two movies was wrong. I'll amend that to fans of The Green Lantern movie - can't believe you loved that one, Fish? By the way, on Tron Legacy, didn't tou find that just really boring? I loved the production design but the film was just so slooooow.
-
I guess they think us Brits will see Iron Man on a poster and mistake him for John Steed. Marketing pussies can chew on my cock girth.
-
The original TRON was one of the most personally meaningful and transformative films of my youth. Every moment of the sequel was riveting for me, but I can't give a subjective defense of the film. I haven't seen GREEN LANTERN. That one looks like a real stinker.

These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arm Through these fields of destruction Baptism of fire I've watched all your suffering As the battles raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line on your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms

Yes. Yes, it is.

I don't post here as often as I used to since the d.vader purges really turned me off this place, but I did return to read choppah's antics or conspiracy's smutty posts or even ctm's rants. Fuck, asimovlives' posts are even a guilty pleasure of mine. I get it, conversation isn't always civil here, but there were convos worth fighting for and paying attention to. Now that seems to be melting away because some mod started banning people for voicing their just outrage at posts being altered/edited behind the scenes. Not only has AICN allowed someone to violate the integrity of the talkbacks by censoring and re-writing posts, but now they've gone and eliminated the voices of dissent. Those voices happen to be the prevalent posters on this site, and a huge source of traffic. Talkback numbers used to be a lot higher a while ago. The d.vader purges made them worse, and today, unless there's a huge fucking apology and things are set right, AICN is possibly facing a permanently crippling blow.

The fact that Harry hasn't commented concerning the recent events of banning/editing posts confirms our worst fears.

John Carter didn't cost 600 million to produce/market
by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
But the studios do not gain 100% of ticket sales. You know the theaters need to create a revenue to keep their doors open, right? Plus, it's even harder to draw profits from overseas box office sales. Walt Disney is co-producing Iron Man 3 in China so they can siphon off more of the cashola. It was rumored that John Carter needs to make $600-$700 million world-wide to break even.

Choppah, Conspiracy, D.Vader, Bobo, Mattman, Asimov, Creeppythinman
by koalaofdoom1982
All the above are sometimes insane, some are often highly annoying, but always without fail entertaining. Apart from all of Quint's work, Merricks Dockbacks and on a lesser scale Muldoon's Shorts there's nothing else to this site apart from the wonderous talkbacks. Yes they've always been chaotic with more civilitY seen in a playground but thats the joy! Banning these folks and changing tb posts is very very bad for the future.... If Quint was to ever jump ship and start a new site now would be the ideal time.....
-
as the Pinocchio poster is concerned. He's been doing some Avengers promo posters too. The Hawkeye one, tho not my favorite character, is really striking. Good on ya Harry! I usually give you crap for your horrible grammar, punctuation and overall writing, but, I have to say, this show you're putting together isn't half bad. I can think of worse ways to spend seven minutes. Keep it up.
-
but some retard mod is banning people left and right without no apparent reason. If this is Harry's new policy of the site,to ban without provocation the same people who generate his traffic, then i am out of here and i will never come back.it is a pity actually, because AICN was my sole movie destination in the internet.but alas, the last bastion of free speech has gone too. My deepest thanks to all the nice and cool people with whom i had very entertaining and intelligent conversations throughout the years in this site.thank you guys, until we meet again i wish you all the best from me. AS FOR THE ASSHOLE MOD,GO FUCK YOURSELF. OVER AND OUT.

These are coming along. You have a spark of a screen presence, Harry and with development I think you could have an entertaining show here. The boiler this time around was uninspired. Just a sequel to last time's. Don't write for him unless you have an actual beef you want to address.
-
earlier all I did was post about how pathetic and lame it is that AICN has yet to post about Francls Lawrence directing Catching Fire. I even posted a link to an article about it to help them out and then I got banned. If pointing out the ongoing and glaring shortcoming of this site being lazy as shit about posting articles gets you banned but other TBers can be as vile and nasty as they come on the obit TBs for Whitney Houston and Dick Clark and so on and they DON'T get banned, then some stupid fuck on here really has their priorities out of order.

The most interesting posters in years have been Creepy, Chop, D. Vader and conspiracy...and they get banned. They rightfully criticize this site for its descent into shittiniess...and they get banned. Meanwhile, Harry completely lies about The Script That Shall Not Be Mentioned, fails to show up to work on time (which I thought was hard to do when you don't have to waddle your fat ass to anywhere but your laptop), and does absolutely ZILCH for this site....and he keeps on trucking. Enjoy your mail-order bride, twinkies and free pwesents while you can, you pathetic weak little baby man. I gotta hunch your bread and butter is going to either be sold to support your habbits or it will fail altogether. Either way, your days of being a z-list celebrity bullshit artist are most likely numbered. I know I'm not such of a much--just some anonymous poster, but i for one refuse to even CLICK on this site from here on out. You suck, AICN! chopped.

What’s this? What’s this? There’s bannings everywhere what’s this? and no one even cares behind the scenes – I don’t understand I must be dreaming wake up black it isn’t fair What’s this? What’s this? What’s this? Here comes a noisy troll – how quaint! his schtick is very droll but look! out of touch and out of date have they realized too late what’s this? The only thing that matters here are those below the link the site is lame and excluding two is run by hateful dinks there’s silence in every story or complaints at every turn I say we get some distance boys and watch this fucker burn… (It works best if you sing it.)

Exactly what it should be. Let it never be said you are not a creator. What a great testament to your body of work. Congratulations Harry.

Until I hear that all those who got banned for no good reason are reinstated I won't be coming back to this fucked up site. Its obvious that Knowles doesn't give a fuck about the site any more and is far too busy stroking his already over-inflated ego with his pathetic video series. This site has been going down hill for ages now and all we get are promises that things will get better. But nothing, nothing ever does. And now those people who, like me have been vocal about this sort of thing all seem to have been banned. Seems that Harry Knowles cannot stand to read the truth about his failing web site. Time for some home thruths, Harry. AICN is a disgrace and you are a disgrace for destroying it. Yes, you destroyed it with your incompetance, your indifference and your inflated ego. Hope you are proud of yourself.
-
please repost that link to your site that had the great article about Harry's ineptitude. It was called 'No you can't take the sky from me' or something but I can't find it in google.

I have a good domain name thats not taken but I don't want to post it on here for fear of an admin stealing it. I can send it to you if you give me a temporary email you set up or something. I have long thought that it would be a great idea for other TBers to start a movie news site. It's been in the making for years just based on how many great people like choppah and conspiracy and asimovlives and so on that post here. I say we should do it.

If that video doesn't deserve its own talkback, I'm not sure what does.

I got banned too about 3 weeks ago but it was not yet time for the Dojo to close down. Not yet. Not. yet. However if choppah, conspiracy and d.vader have fallen then that time might have come. My name is Cobra--Kaius Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the Nerds. General of the Felix Legions (no, I dont know who they are either). Loyal servant to the true Emperor, Choppus Aurelius. Friend of a banhammered Vader, fan of a banhammered conspiracy – and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next!!!!
-
I know this request will likely be ignored, but I hope that we will have some sort of official response to this apparent round of bannings. Sounds like the heart and soul of the TBs has been hit. Why, and to what end?
-
listening to you and your guests talk about the subject of the day and actually quite informative. in a bitesize kinda way, especially since you know your geek shit. Think this has given you a shot in the arm so to speak, and hopefully the momentum will move the site forward. I'd actually even give a podcast a go once you get around to getting one up.

Loving the show so far. Keep up the good work! Regarding the show's length, I must say that I enjoy it as a short. However, it's good to know that longer interviews will be available for those who want them. Keep well.

Harr listen to me, the only way to salvage this is to allow a decent TBers debate
by Ricardo
You might have all the justifications and excuses for the problems or fake scripts or Brian Coxes and everything, and I'll believe you. And you were JUST getting AICN back on track with this new video series. But your relationship with your readers HAVE GOT to change, or else you'll lose everything, man... Here's my suggestion again, pick a random TBer, someone you don't know, someone who is willing to do some decent debate and talk live with him through Skype or some shit. Show us what you got and what you know, prove us wrong, or let US prove our points. If the TBer starts badmouthing or calling names, he's out. You can edit for time (not content), and dub in his voice with the boiler voice, or digitally alter his voice, or just leave the TBer in, makes no difference. You need to do two things to save this website, Harry: 1- Keep it about the cool news, not about yourself, lower your ego, be fucking humble. Focus on getting better contacts, better scoops, and validate your sources. Improve your contacts. Have that quality spill over the videos too. The videos are a great way to keep things fresh. 2- Get a better relationship with your readers. TBers are the lowest common denominator, and there are trolls, of course, but serious allegations and issues DEMAND a clear response. Don't let someone else respond, just say: "I fucked up". We ALL make mistakes. If you incorrectly said that Brian Cox was on Alien, correct yourself and say "sorry I mixed up actors". The Prometheus script, you DID respond (somewhat), so that's cool, that's the way to do it. Don't run away from your responsibilities, dude.

You got what you deserve. I've got nothing but love for Harold Throckmorton Knowles IV. Nothing but love. We're just wanting him to stick to his guns in regards to keeping the talkbacks the geek-filled, freedom-spewing cesspools that they have been notoriously known for for well over a decade and then some. Bannings....they come and go. Some are called for, some are questionable. What is not appropriate is a moderator changing posts to incriminate an individual. It's a violation of trust between talkbacker and website, and it could hurt Harry and Co. in the long run, if it's not dealt with in a quick and fair manner. We still love you though, Kobes. Don't ever change. CHOPPIN' MY WAY BACK TO YOU, BABE

Sorry, but the bans were NOT justified, not at least in my part.
by frank
5 days ago i wake up,i enter the site,i enther the latest James Cameron thread and my first post of the day is =LONG LIVE THE KING.LONG LIVE THE KING= and that's it.the next thing i know i am blacklisted!! I thought that it was a glitch in the system,so i enter the site with a new account, again after a while i got blacklisted again.i waited for a day and then i sent an email to Harry and tell him about my login problem.i asked him to tell me the reason i got blacklisted if that was the real case.i got zero answer from him. Today i enter the site and with great amazement i discover that a lot of other users have fallen victim of the ban hammer without any apparent reason. I will defend my position and i ll say that i have never insulted Harry or the other members of his staff and never criticized their work.Frankly i almost never read their reviews, the main reason i come to this site is for the discussions with the other talkbackers, the news, the gossip and to discover new movies that i never knew before. So no i dont believe i deserved the ban hammer in any way. But let's pretend that i did deserve the banning.ok fine. Then how about the banning of other talkbackers which never gave a reason for this. How about conspiracy? he has never insulted anyone,he praised Harry's new youtube show and he even had a little nice chat with Harry about this, before he got the ban.just look his posts in the beginning of the topic.Or how about Bobo? or choppah? And i wouldnt be surprised that Asimov absence in the last week is a result of him being banned! And how about people who are even now, very offensive but they are not banned? just go to the recent obits and you will see that there are people there which are very impolite and use harsh language instead of respecting the nature of those topics.how about? why they dont get banned too if we are talking about justification? I am really amazed with the course of the things that has taken place in the recent days.It is like Harry has been demonized,or changed personality or someone else took entirely over the site.I really cant explain why suddenly and after so many years,Harry suddenly decided to started to ban people left and right. Well i think i get the idea behind this new policy and it has to do with his new Youtube show.I believe it is his big game-changer which will put his site back again in the same level of competition with the other movie sites,it will generate him even greater revenue and will heal or create new friendly bonds with the Hollywood industry. So it is a project that he has invested on a lot and he doesnt want anyone else to fuck it up.So in his retarded, juvenile mind,he sees the most dedicated visitors of his site with their most critical voice AS A THREAT for his new show. I mean do you imagine if he invited Charlize Theron in his show and conspiracy wrote his new fudgepack friday story as a tribute to her in the show's talkback? and Charlize saw it by accident? or if he invited Orci and Asimov was here and started ripping him apart? This is what Harry is trying to avoid,he is doing precautionary damage control,he has started =cleansing= the site in order to better protect, according to him ofc,his new investment. And he doesnt give a fuck if you deserved the ban,if you generated traffic to his site,if you are one of the reasons that other visitors come to the site to see you talking about movies or generally having fun. Harry just doesnt give a fuck about you,you are nothing, just a number in his traffic and he can live without you now that he is hitting big. In conclusion,i am really disgusted to what has happened in the past few days.Because of Harry's attitude and the reasons behind it,towards a specific fraction of visitors of this sites. And also because i always considered Harry a very nice and cool guy, despite his flaw, but i never imagined that the things would end up in such a horrific way because of him. Harry,i will tell you this.I wish someday i could become a big shot director and you would invite me for an interview,so that i could show you my middle finger in person.Because that's all that you deserve from the (ex)fans of this site. Bye.
-
Choppah, good to see reports of your demise are unfounded... Do you know if Vader and Conspiracy remain banned? bigustitus, I dont actually think its Harry thats been doing the banning. Suspect its someone else. I do like the idea of Charlize Theron reading about herself on fudgepack friday tho! Look, the thing is that *hot* actresses must know to resist surfing the net. Fudgepack friday would pale in comparison to some of the stuff they might see, such as spookily real looking photoshopped nude pics of them taking money shots to the face! If you're Charlize Theron probably better to live in blissful ignorance than to google *charlize theron nude*.

Your video spots are, unfortunately, just...well...irrelevant. Very few people come to this site because they are madly, blindly in love with cinema in a general sense. People want news on new stuff, not ancient stuff. It might be geek-out cool to talk about cinema history - and it might hold interest for a small niche audience - but if you're going to do just one video show, do something that's relevant to today...and the vast majority of your audience who comes to this site.</p> <p> If you want a successful business, you have to offer what your audience (i.e. customers) want, not what YOU want.

I actually have a career, I don't need Harry's, kobe. That being said, he clearly believes these lame videos are his ticket to relevance again. People might respond better if he ADMITTED MISTAKES and didn't just ignore them.
by reflecto
He simply doesn't have enough power or audience anymore to continue to pretend nothing matters but Harry's joyous love for movies. The TBers are all he has left and they're in revolt. But all these videos are about are how "cool" it is to sit in your basement at what, age 38? With action figures and your dad, insulting more successful friends who come to visit from the only position of 'power' you have left - within the confines of your little Youtube series. And the rest of it is him demeaning and insulting the TBers and their valid complaints and criticisms of either various upcoming films or the site itself, by painting them as "boiler," the unreasonable buffoon who doesn't understand what a great guy "Michael" Bay is. A little less "giddy" condescension and a little open honesty - yes, I fucked up, yes I reviewed a hoax late, yes I need to update the site NOW, yes I mistook Ian Holm for Brian Cox - LITTLE THINGS would mean a lot. But Harry doesn't give a fuck about any of that. He's clearly hellbent on revamping his "image" as a webseries "star" (which is not going to happen, BTW) while the site can just continue to slide into the swamp. He thinks this series is the ticket and he's going to get it all back and then some, and any naysayers will be replaced by scores of new fans. It's not 2001 anymore, people. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Yes, its true, I was banned, along with Conspiracy, Mattman, Bobo, Choppah, and many others I'm sure who chose to speak out against AICN and whomever was altering/editing talkbacker posts and then banning others. I emailed Quint about it, and he's a nice, intelligent, and sane person, so he reinstated us. I sincerely thank Quint for that. He's a good dude. He says he has no idea of who did it to us and thus far doesn't know of a way to track moderator history to find out. But he's looking into it and asking the tech guys. As for the unknown, mysterious, and *cowardly* moderator who banned everyone without warning and without explanation, and I'm led to believe it was Fathergeek since it was in his own story (i really hope it was not), you sir have some explaining to do. I believe you owe it to ALL of AICN and all of AICN readership to take responsibility and explain why you'd do such a thing, particularly when it comes to editing what we've said. I hope someone at AICN gets to the bottom of this. It reflects poorly on Harry and the rest and compromises a lot of what this site does. Anyway. Thanks again Quint.

which centers around those who think that just because they are allowed to post here or have been doing so since before such a thing called a smart phone existed - which allows them to post while taking a shit at the same time, or post their shit as such the case may be, then they are somehow entitled to being treated like fucking hands off royalty. furthermore such entitled fucks think they have the right to criticize anyone and everyone with impunity because afterfall harry is beholden to them and their daily hit counts for his income and fame which they deride constantly and threaten daily by saying they will never return because this place just aint what it used to be, but strangely enough they do return.news for all of them, if this site was mostly beholden on talkback hit counts it would have went belly up a long long long time ago. they will not believe me, even though the proof is on the posting page and can be found with a google search of site hit counts. they will continue to exist in their entitled little world because this place is important to them, they need this place far far more that it needs them. the d.vader banning of a year ago and subsequent moaning and bitching and screams of 'im never coming back' really did spell the doom of talkbacks and aicn. oh wait a minute, no it did not. the site miraculously kept going and the place was actually better off because all inbred trolls and their sock puppets stayed away until they realized how desperately they needed this place and how much it did not need them. that is the bullshit i rail against and why i heap scorn on choppah and his sock puppet echo chamber ilk and all the anti social trolls who would cry for years if this site truly went belly up. actually this site performs a public service keeping assholes like ctm and that pedophile conspiracy from the general public

But no one can deny that stories just don't generate the same amount of talkback hits and posts as they once did, that's for sure. The big fiasco over the hacking and the new talkback code over a year and a half ago did not help matters.
-
if your very first post to me had been even half as courteous as this one you and i would have no beef, i only attack those who attack me first, with exceptions made for pedophiles. but since you just had to make like a dick and bleed all over the place, my answer to you is that i come here to take a shit and you came out instead, then kobe smelled my ass and proclaimed it good

Shee-it did I make a Lost World reference? I didn't even realize it, what'd I say? Keep in mind, I ran a 5k obstacle course today and haven't eaten much and have had a bit to drink... Point being, I love Spielberg's The Lost World (you can clearly tell Spiels is just having fun) but I don't know how I referenced it.
-

Oh wait, I bet you meant The Lost World novel by Crichton, yes YourMomsBox?
by D.Vader
Isn't that what Ian Malcolm says in regards to his "death" in the first Jurassic Park novel? Very funny. Did you know its actually first attributed to Mark Twain?
-
I believe the original quote was actually something like "reports of my death have been exaggerated," but as time as gone on, that quote itself has been exaggerated to include the adjective "greatly". That Mark Twain, what a genius. I'm impressed you remembered that from The Lost World, however. I used to read Jurassic Park once a year, but life and school and career just got in the way, and I haven't read it in over a decade. I read The Lost World twice- I bought it the night it came out and only read it a second time after that. Its not by choice; I would love to read it more often, but since I've gotten into film, my ability to read has... suffered. I now read slowly and reread passages over and over to paint a complete picture in my head of how I'd shoot it as a film. Its beneficial in some ways, but in the long run it just means I read less and less. So anyway, kudos to you for remembering that as being a line by Malcolm. Impressive, sir. Most impressive. How was your 5k? Mine had mud pits and climbing walls, and underground tunnels and all kinds of shit designed to tear your ankles and knees up.

The acting from every character in Noire is movie quality. I watched this doc on bare knuckle fighting on Netflix and it was funny. Just reminds me of a quote from Blomkamp says "the suits weren’t happy with the direction I was going. Thing was, though, I’d played Halo and I play videogames. I’m that generation more than they are and I know that my version of Halo would have been insanely cool. It was more fresh and potentially could have made more money than just a generic, boring film — something like G.I. Joe or some crap like that, that Hollywood produces.” He also admits "The way Fox dealt with me was not cool. Right from the beginning… until the end when it collapsed, they treated me like shit; they were just a crappy studio. I’ll never ever work with Fox ever again because of what happened to Halo"

was more entertaining that Melancholia. If Dunst did a hard core porn scene it would still not be exciting. Because by the time the porn scene rolls around your heart rate has slowed down from the relentless mundane boredom and there is no blood being supplied to your brain or penis. There should be a health hazard warning on his dvd boxes.

by Joe Plumber
Naked miserable crazy bitch Kirsten Dunst > naked miserable crazy fat pig Lena Dunham
-
She was kinda hot.
-
...is the lifeblood that courses like dark, thick oil through the cracked glass tapestry of Melancholia's spiderweb veins. Ennui, that enlightened state in which we understand that at the moment we are cleft from the umbilicus we are cursed with the scar of existence and that the scar will fade only with the putrefaction of our flesh. For what is Melancholia but the awareness of the shadow of our own end, the first spadeful of rich, black soil that will fill our grave? It is in the penumbra of that gravedigger's shovel that we all marry our Jack Bauer's, and they will be always strangers to us for they too are obscured in the baleful shade of Melancholia, and our time together will be as the passing of the 24 hours in a single day, the false dawn of sunlight reflecting off bleached sand fading to the graveyard dusk that reveals all our hopes to be naught but lingering wisps of dreams that could not forestall the certain doom to which all life is birthed. To turn your face from Melancholia is to cower in the deceit that life is a limitless stroll through a maudlin watercolor orchard, sheltered by the obscure fruit of an unexamined existence. To accept Melancholia is to understand that life is instead a joyless rutting on the immaculate lawn that shrouds the worms that will one day burrow their cities in your flesh, an animal rutting which has as its truest purpose only the birthing of another landscape in which the worms may make their home. But to know Melancholia is to at last realize that life and all its attendant works are but ephemera with no more meaning than the final curling of a dying beetle's legs. It is not that our loves and hates and struggles will soon be forgotten; it is that the world in which they took place was no more than a random clash of chemicals, science's final vindication of Decarte's dreaming demon. What better place, then, than a child's twig fortress to await the first shovelful of oblivion, for at least in childhood we could pretend that what we built and believed could protect us from our preordained end. Oh yes, it is ennui from which Melancholia takes its shape, and the understand Melancholia is to realize, at last, that Kirsten Dunst showed us her breasts ten years after anyone really wanted to see them.

LOL!! I'll take Forbes, too *not technically a profit, considering its advertising budget*. http://www.google.com/search?q=john+carter+flop
by justmyluck
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_office_bomb *The phrase box office bomb (also referred to as a flop) refers to a film for which the overall cost (production, marketing and distribution) greatly exceeds the revenue regained by the movie studio.* So sorry that the 600 million recoup still stands...like earning a bit more than expected erases that number! JOHN CARTER never made an impression, which is about a thousand times worse than the $200 million writedown, the chairman's resignation, lack of post-release fanfare form the talent involved, etc. - all telltale signs of this FLOP. It really is like debating the clown car when it comes to the JOHN CARTER pom pom section. Or, a cult mindset's inability to grasp reality.

You forgot to quote this part : " BoxOffice Mojo reports that John Carter has grossed $254.5 million, a $4.5 million over its budget—currently not technically a profit, considering its advertising budget, but it’s far better than the epic loss that many had feared. Unsurprisingly, most of this coin has come from overseas. While John Carter earned over $66 million here in the United States, international markets have pulled in over $188 million. Film Buff Online writes that John Carter was #1 in box office receipts for two weeks in a row in China. This profit will keep increasing, as John Carter has yet to be released in Japan, where it will surely put the movie several million dollars in the black." I just love it when 3rd parties try to interpret what I've presented. I]f we need any more proof of the true popularity of the film, we have to look no farther than Amazon.com. Amazon shoppers who signed up for e-mails to alert them of DVD & Blu-Ray new releases were informed that they were able to pre-order John Carter on video today. As of this writing, the Blu-Ray 3-D/Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy was the #1 selling item in Amazon’s Science-Fiction Movie list, and ranked #2 in the Action & Adventure and Fantasy Categories…. It ranks #13 over all in the Movies & TV Blu-Ray list. If you recall, Waterworld had cost $175 million to make yet only earned $88 million in North America. But according to Yahoo Voices, “Overseas sales along with VHS and DVD sales allowed the movie to recoup” its losses. Ultimately, Waterworld earned $264 million. If DVD/Blu-Ray sales are strong, it could very well catapult John Carter into the kind of success that give Hollywood executives sweaty dreams and encourage them to marry trophy wives. I guess you didn't understand the article.
-
I'm truly sorry to see you go. You are one of the real posters as opposed to the sea of little fan boy trolls. It was nice talking to someone sane here that really enjoys movies.
-
I think you are making way to much out of things concerning Harry. It's kind of like the time people were accused me of being a plant. That's paranoid! I'm about as far from a plant as you could be. I'm just an average guy that works an average job in Salem Oregon. That's the truth. I do love movies and especially Science Fiction so I'm opinionated and get uppity when I feel people are being overly critical of a film or show that doesn't deserve it.
-
Oh for God's sake! He was talking about a copy of a film he likes being changed in a special edition! I think once again you are making too much out of this. But you know at the end of the day it's Harry's site and he can do what he wants with it. Personally there have been quite a few people here who for their rudeness deserved to be banned that Harry didn't.
-
Strange. I'm probably one of the most mild, moderate posters on here, but even I am feeling creepythinman's absence. In my short time in this community, it seems to be morphing into something pretty anodyne, and is diminished for it in my opinion. Tween/teen cash grab?
