Ridley Scott On Theatrical Cut Of PROMETHEUS: "It's What It Should Be"

Beaks here...

While most of us are in agreement that Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS looks amazing, there is some confusion out there regarding the rating of the theatrical cut and the degree to which it might compromise Scott's vision. At a recent press conference in Paris (brought to my attention by Dark Horizons and Badass Digest), Scott was quick to clear up any misconceptions about what version of the movie will be going out into theaters: what you'll see on June 8th, 2012 will be the director's cut. "It's always the director's cut really." According to Scott, this cut currently runs one hour and fifty-nine minutes "and change", and he's happy with it. "It's what it should be."

This brings us back to the ratings issue, and that, according to my sources, is still a fluid issue. But the MPAA will be judging Scott's cut. That much is certain. And if they happen to decide that this cut is PG-13, well, then you'll just have to accept that Ridley Scott made a PG-13 PROMETHEUS. And if they decide that this cut is R... well... "Just how R?" will be the question. Is it a matter of a snip or a whole scene? Again, it's a fluid issue.

As to how this impacts the likelihood  of an "extended cut" for the Blu-ray, all of that has yet to be determined. But the fact that the studio thinks Scott's cut could earn a PG-13 tells me there's not a whole lot of essential material getting excised. When Scott says PROMETHEUS is "what it should be," he means it.

And if you think you've figured out PROMETHEUS, you haven't. Its big reveals remain unspoiled. See you June 8th.
