The Teaser Poster For Disney's WRECK-IT RALPH!
Nordling here.
I've heard a lot of good things about WRECK-IT RALPH, Disney's holiday offering for this year The premise, about a video game villain who wants to change his spots and become a good guy, is solid, the main character is voiced by John C. Reilly, and footage shown to some critics at D23 last year went over very well. I'm really excited to see it myself - this one has a great cast and the premise is meat-and-potatoes for a video game fan like myself.
MSN has the teaser poster, and it's definitely low-fi, even down to the font on the date. I'm looking forward to playing the game on this one:

WRECK-IT RALPH opens November, 2012.

I watched like 10 min of the beginning. It wasn't offensive.
-
other than that I absolutely love it.
-
has flavors of megamind if you ask me. wont judge till i see the preview
-
The premise about an 8-bit video game character...is just fucking stupid. Of course any story can be good if it is written well. We''l have to see, but it looks like the next John Carter to me.
-
Will the media ever get rid of this stereotype? WILL IT?!?!? It's getting so bad, that I can't leave my house anymore... thanks a lot South Park...

Will there be a cameo appearance by Donkey Kong? Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde?
by GreatWhiteNoise
Need some classic villain cameos to spice this up.

Maybe he could steal the ship from Zaxxon and start flying around blowing things up.

Trolling? Maybe a bit. But I really disliked that book after all the hype. If disliking it means I lose my geek card, then I don't want it.
-
...could that character be any more grating too look at?
-
Very funny.
-
There's a password to some secret villain-lair that's the Konami code. <p> The Contra Guys show up and make a "yeah, maybe if we had like, 30 guys" joke.
-
I CAN TELL FROM SOME OF THE PIXELS AND FROM SEEING QUITE A FEW SHOPS IN MY TIME.
-
At the Disney D23 show last fall they showed some storyboards and a snippet of dialogue with the accompanying boards for visuals. It seems fun from what we saw/heard, but don't know if the joke will wear thin quick.
-
Try having blonde hair and blue eyes - there's your hollywood bad guy stereotype! Every villain these days has blonde hair!
-
Is the style of the whole flick 8-bit? Or is this just interesting marketing?
-
And yes, jpeg HATES clean-cut lines and solid colors. Re-post it as a gif.
-
-- was awesome.
-
Excellent poster. Very neat indeed.
-
He's the antihero inthis
-
thanks man. Love you too!
-
The main character is going to jump around genres, including at some point a Halo style shooter game, presumably he'll render upwards as he goes to match the environment. The movie will also feature cameos like Zangief, Bowser and Dr. Robotnick (those are confirmed, presumably there will be other icons)
-
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/jennytablina/eggmanralph.png Dr. Wily is in there as well. Its sort of a supervillains annonymous group.
-
I've heard from very good sources involved with this project, that some of the best-known video game bad-guys will be making appearances in this movie. It may even be more than cameos.
-
That's how Ralph wrecks things.
-
..Is it a size of drink?
-
Hope the movie doesn't look like that. The poster made my eyes bleed.

@meta -- Well, here's hoping. I've always wanted to know what truly motivated Piston Hurricane from "Punch-Out".

But what the hell did you dislike about Ready Player One?

Other than Powder, name one albino that's not a bad guy.

"Megamind" triumphed because its ability to tell a realistic character arc - which happened to be an archtype, becomeing his complete opposite. Smart, funny, excellent.

I wonder if the people who make this are as retarded as the morons that made Scott Pilgrim

Glad you asked. To me, it was little more than a list of 80s bands, movies, and other references. Nothing I couldn't find by browsing retroCrush or other sites. Heck, nothing I couldn't get on my own just sitting around reminiscing with friends. It attempts to be nostalgic at a time when anything you can be nostalgic for (from the 80s anyway) is readily available 24/7. Now, had it been clever about incorporating these geek cultural touchstones into the plot, I'd have been very happy with it. And in fact, I did love the way the D&D module was used. That was perfect, exactly what I hoped for. I'll even give it the mega-robot battle, even though mega-robots aren't personally my thing. I can understand and appreciate what was going on there. The rest of the story, though, did no more than mention things I see referenced almost daily on the websites I frequent. Somewhere in there are three pages that literally just list of things. 'I studied John Hughes and They Might Be Giants and ALF and Michael Jackson and Monty Python and The Smurfs and early Spielberg and blah blah blah' All the things, apparently, that he couldn't find a place for elsewhere in the book. That's why I call the book 'pandering'. It's waving a box of Geek Stuff in front of us, and when we open it, we say...at least I did...'Aw, man, I already have this.'
-
but is the movie dealing with an 8-bit character or is it just the fun poster. I like the poster.
-
I liked the concept and it had a truly breathless pace but the narrator was a condescending prick in a world where antisocial behavior is rewarded with vast sums of money and manic pixie girls. Wish fulfillment for trivia obsessees...it missed out on what all those signifiers had:heart. Creativity. And likable lead characters.

He looks like the Heat Miser from "Year Without a Santa Claus"

I liked the book and I thought it was a fun read. I do agree that there was a little overkill trying to mention as many pop culture references as he could. While reading it, it felt more like an idea for a screenplay, turned into a book. Where you had plot filled with extra padding of the main character talking about pop culture. But I think the right director, who is talented can turn it into an epic movie. Obviously they will make Wade more likeable and cast a good actor, which will help. And they'll streamline the story so it's not just Wade narrating, going over all the pop culture references. Also getting all the rights to some of these things will be tough. And they might have to change the Wargames/Holy Grail scenes. Buying the right hands the movie could be way better than the book.

With idiotic Bayloving teenagers?

Jack McBrayer fucking sucks though.

Elric is a character with albinism who isn't a villain.
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
anti-hero, yes. Not a villain, though.
-
You need a Nintendo 3DS and a copy of Pushmo in order to play it. It's pretty simple, I could not make it too hard based on how Ralph face's pixels were designed. http://i42.tinypic.com/10gi6tz.jpg
-
thats because you should use gif or png for low bit images. jpeg is for photos
-
They act like they want to change, but they can't. No souls, don't believe in God, and they don't dream. They are like T-1000s, except nobody is scared by them, they're just slightly irked when they show up.
-
But that's actually another beef I have with the book: it's one of those 'I actually want to write a movie but nobody buys original screen plays anymore' books. Also, I agree with Mr Plant. I didn't like the main character. But despite my dislike, I'm looking forward to and hoping for better with the inevitable sequel.
