I've always hated that. But I'm a sucker for SNL, always have been. Always will be.
-
Seriously, the woman has some talent but she is spotlighted WAY too much and has been for the last five years. I loathe her characters and the way she hogs the screen whenever she's on. More Abby Elliot and Nasim please.
-
Y'know, like he beat his wife

Have you seen Brolin's step-mother? I think he broke her nose!

In my humble opinion, Nasim is the hottest chick ever on SNL.

For SNL history the majority of not ready for prime time players have been 97% white. Time for a major change.

Seriously, it's probably my favorite SNL sketch of the last 10 years. So underappreciated yet so hilarious.

I especially like how Michael J. Fox has no idea whatsoever how his image is going to be used. The definition of *oblivious*...

I want to see lean and mean Chunk, now a successful Hollywood entertainment attorney, make fat Astin do the truffle shuffle.

Seriously?

The most boring 8 minutes in SNL history. WTF is Lorne thinking bringing in all these terrible musical acts? Between LDR, Karmin, and this I seriously believe he let's 14 year olds pick the guests for him.

Those Stockdale skits stopped being funny the minute Dennis Miller had the balls to speak up.
by OutsideChance
As Miller noted, on the air, after one of those sketches: “Now I know (Stockdale’s name has) become a buzzword in this culture for doddering old man, but let’s look at the record, folks. The guy was the first guy in and the last guy out of Vietnam, a war that many Americans, including our present President, did not want to dirty their hands with. The reason he had to turn his hearing aid on at that debate is because those f***ing animals knocked his eardrums out when he wouldn’t spill his guts. He teaches philosophy at Stanford University, he’s a brilliant, sensitive, courageous man. And yet he committed the one unpardonable sin in our culture: he was bad on television. Somewhere out there Paddy Chayefsky must be laughing his ass off. …” Miller may have stopped being funny but, damn, in that one moment he was the most truthful man to ever show up on SNL
-
I miss THAT Dennis Miller. Although I don't think he said that after one of those sketches. I think he said it on another show. But you're right, it was well said. Thanks for reminding me.

Dennis Miller said that in one of his comedy specials

Dennis Miller was funny until 911 made him crazy

My problems with Gotye have nothing to do with the fact that he sounds like Billy Squire, they actually have more to do with that "Sombody That I Used to Know" song, which has become the "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" of the new millenium. To wit: 1. He hogs the song. Why bother bringing a girl in if you're only going to let her sing one verse? Why not give her a pass at the chorus? In the video, it looks like she sings backup while he sings the second chorus, but I challenge you her voice underneath the looping of his shrill, Billy Squire-esque voice. 2. The line "Have your friends collect your records..." Who listens to records anymore? What, is she a DJ? Is this 1982? Maybe he is Billy Squire.

Michaels has always had a tendency, going all the way back to Gilda, to pick a favorite female cast member and overexpose her to the detriment of the rest of the female players and even that actress. Immediately before Wiig it was Poehler. After Wiig it will be Vanessa Bayer.

Lorne isn't just always looking for the next Gilda, Outsidechance
by Kevservo
He's also always on the lookout for someone to mold into the next Belushi-esque funny fat guy. Remember how Horatio Sanz was constantly shoved down our throats despite being totally devoid of anything that could have been mistaken as something vaguely resembling talent? Sometimes it works (Farley) but more often it doesn't (Kenan although he does have his moments, the aforementioned Sanz).

Kimbra's verse is meant as counterpoint. I find it very effective as part of the story. Btw...I still listen to records, and know plenty of people with extensive vinyl collections.
-
Bet it would be epic
-
Gotye, not so much.
-
Will he show up?
-
Love the rip off Ventura Highway theme.
-
But other than that, good show so far. And I guess, with that Laser Cats, Andy's exit at the end of the season is official.
-
I hope he makes LaserCats 8.

adeceasedfan - I get the counterpoint. I'm just saying a more balanced, artistically satisfying piece would have given her counterpoint more of a voice (and given her voice more to do).
by Greggers
Her share of presence in the song is like an ironic meta-communication on the theme of the song's narrative. (I.e., The male character in the song is a selfish dick, inflating his feelings of abandonment by someone he never fully cared about. Gotye is a selfish dick for hogging the song.) And you know "plenty of people with extensive vinyl collections"? Nick Hornby and Steve Buscemi from Ghost World? I'm pretty sure at least one of those guys is a fictional character.
-
She's not just one of the funniest female cast members, but one of the funniest cast members they've ever had, period. And easy on the eyes.
-
Was really worried he was only going to do his Will Smith and Jay-Z again. He was great in the prom sketch.
-
...and do more original characters.
-

greggers... 2 pts for Ghost World reference...agree to disagree for the rest, cheers.

too many blacks ... needs more asians!
-
Has the cast always relied this much on cue cards to remember their lines, or is reading the cards always been so blatant? Its so distracting.

Outsidechance and Kevservo, you're both totally right...
by thecomedian
Lorne's been trying to clone Belushi and Gilda for years. They were both insanely talented. Gilda is pretty much irreplacible in my book. I still watch the old shows every once in a while on Netflix and she just shines in everything. I can't think of one sketch where she's off her game. Not one. and unlike Wiig or Molly Shannon she's incredibly likable even when she's just playing herself. Cheri Oteri came close but who knows what bridges she burned that sent her into the phantom zone of obscurity with Nancy Walls and Melonie Hutzell.
-
I like the California soap. I never liked Laser Cats so even Spielberg could not save it in my eyes. The singing duo on Weekend Update went on far too long--even when I was fast forwarding through it. It must have been intolerably long actually watching it. The Jay Z skit was almost funny. I am not sure if the Prom skit was crap or genius.
-
The audience loves it, but it's becoming expected now. The skit's tanking? Hey, start pursing your lips as you try not to laugh! The Californians was funny in its ridiculousness though. It was a lot like early 90s SNL skits, where the gag would repeat over and over, then dramatic music would play over closeups of the cast members making weird faces.
-
What the hell was the skit about a high school hallway that has slow-motion? Wha? The writers are pathetic. Brolin creeps me out. He's like Jerrry Lewis when he's being funny and isn't but when he's serious, he's hilarious.
-
Monahan? He has that Farley stare about him. Make him gain 100 bls and act like a sweaty oaf and we'd have something there.

Kristen Wiig is so adorable and unique. Only imbeciles want her gone.
by Behemoth
The new girl has some promise, and Vanessa Bayer is OK, but no one else with a vag on this whole show is even remotely close to the talent of the Almighty Wiig. Skizmop flazoy, mutherfuckers. Skizmop flazoy.
-
That is all.
