Danny McBride and Todd Phillips remaking KLOVN (Clown)?!?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I saw Klovn while going through submissions with the rest of the guys on the programming board of Fantastic Fest and to call it an R-rated comedy is very generous.
I know the guys at Drafthouse Films are releasing Klovn (July 27th, click here for more info!) and now it looks like they could get a big boost in people wanting to get a feel for the new Danny McBride flick.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros is remaking the film with Todd Phillips producing and Danny McBride co-producing, starring and writing.
Danny McBride is perfect, actually, for this flick about two adult friends who go on what amounts to an affair trip every year. They call it the Tour de Pussy and despite being married they go and fuck whatever they can.
On this particular trip, one of the guys gets locked into bringing his preteen nephew. You'd think that'd make them change their plans for the year, but nooooooooo.
Even with Phillips producing and Warners behind a hard R rating, I'm going to bet that there's going to be far less dick in the American remake.
That being said, if anybody could bring out the raunch and indecent humor it's McBride and Phillips has the power to protect him. Can't wait to see who they pair up with McBride. I could easily see Joel McHale as the sex-crazed, blue-balled best friend.

he knows how to curse but thats about it. im tired of this trend of just cursing jokes (jonah hill, seth rogen, danny mcbride). at least build a joke then throw a curseword in (will ferrell) but todd philips is involved so hopefully its more phillpy style of comedy

Original is spectacular. Run my effin BUFF review, jerkfaces.

Um, you think the Talk Soup guy should be in movies.
by Tikidonkeypunch
I'm disappointed in you.

Also I totally called this on the original KLOVN article. I mean a remake was predictable anyway but it's the most I've accomplished today.

I can't say there's a Danny McBride movie I've seen that's remotely funny.
by Wcwlkr
Your Highness was epically bad, I couldn't get past the first 30 min of 30 min or Less, so I'm not banking on this one to much. McBride works in a supporting role ala Tropic Thunder, or Pineapple Express. As the star I can expect this to suck hard, though I do find East Bound and Down funny. And Todd Phillips is good to, but I just seriously doubt this. If I had to guess his partner in crime it'll be Jason Sudekis or Owen Wilson, possibly Ben Stiller.
-
However McBride gets a lifetime pass for Eastbound and Down.
-
You are inaccurate
-
It was a learning experience for McBride. He won't make another piece of shit like it...I hope.
-
No possible way the remake is funnier than the original.

Danny McBride was ruined in Tropic Thunder. His character was shit.

...AND EVERYONE AT AICN KNOWS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

show some God damn respect.

Is this a bad thing, Quint? Me personaly, I don't really like looking at dick up on the big screen. Or the small screen either. It's not a homophobic thing, either. I just personally don't like looking at dick. I agree with all the McBride haters when it comes to his movie work. However, Eastbound and Down is funnier than fuck. A lot of it's the writing, but I can't think of anyone who would be better than McBride as Kenny Fuckin Powers.

As a Dane I thoroughly enjoyed Klovn: The Movie. The series is legendary in Denmark, however many people, myself included, can't get over the fact that it started out as a blatantly rip-off of Curb Your Enthusiasm, right down to the theme music and even copying specific episodes. The movie, though, really works well on it's own terms. It's even the best selling Danish film this millennium in Denmark. As opposed to all the haters, I really enjoy Danny McBride's work. Actually, I've seen all his films (only 17) and Land of the Lost is the only one I didn't really enjoy. But then again, who did?

Has there ever been a more versatile film maker than Todd Phillips- what genre will he take on next? One things for sure, after these repressed moronic man-children go on their old school road trip, they will have one heck of a hangover, maybe even a hangover 2.

I can only stand McBride in LAND OF THE LOST, but since everyone seems to like YOUR HIGHNESS I will check that out eventually

They are both one-note - McBride the eternal white-trash mullet-wearing douche and Phillips the eternal fratboy making films about guys getting drunk and partying.
-
It's Denny. D-E-N-N-Y! if you're gonna be hatin' at least get it right.
-
Helps if you like smoking pot and the cheese of '80s style fantasy "epics". Kisses, kisses...
-
I thought it was COVEN - the film that the douchebag in AMERICAN MOVIE was trying to make. That would have been HILARIOUS!!! COH-ven Then we could all come around to Mike's place and drink vot-ka.....cuz he likes to get together with Marc and drink vot-ka.......you know......vot-ka.

Danny McBride has proven he's funny. Watch EASTBOUND & DOWN
by atlatl
If you don't find it funny, you're dead to me.
-
seriously who gives a wet fart?
-
Danish, Swedish, whatever. All you Scandinavian people sound like the Swedish chef muppet to me. Borshky borshsky!
-
I hate Your Highness. It was lazy and cliched. He could have done far better with a bit more imagination. He had some really great actors at his disposal and made a really insipid. obvious comedy. I like him though and I hope he steers clear of typecastng himself as the same character for the rest of his career.
-
Nearing Inception level absurdity. Hard to believe among all the McBride hatred that no one mentions 30 Minutes or Less. I guess since it sucked less than Your Highness or something.
-
...... and Jonah Hill is his wacky yet equally unfunny convenience store clerk/best bud sidekick. Also starring Jack Black as the shady low-retainer fee attorney. Potentially the worst movie ever.

Next year Todd Phillips will film "Clown 2" which happens to be the same exact movie as "Clown" with the same gags to which nobody will laugh at. And people will be tricked into seeing the same movie twice. Again

Hope everytime caught the hangover 2 reference.

Don't speak a word of Danish, was pissing my pants at that embedded vid...
by BurnHollywood
...If slightly disturbed...did I get a Danish knob-shot from an embed? Don't seem right, somehow.

Thats gross.

Fuck them. Please. Hollywood is in a dire state in desperate need of more creativity. *okay, calming down*

When I saw 30 Minutes or Less starred McBride, Anzari and Swardson
by Dr. Hfuhruhurr
I knew it would flop. A trifecta of unfunny that I will never, ever watch. Their automatic inclusion in any film guarantees major suckitude.
-
Starring, costarring and cameo roles. Fact!
-
The movie Klovn, which was made because of a very succesful tv-series by the same name, is now being remade!? That is moronic as Klovn is a total Curb Your Enthusiasm rip off! It even has the same theme music. Klovn was made around the time the fourth season of Curb came out... It is VERY obvious that the makers of Klovn was more than just influenced by it. But they have no shame, so they gladly accepted awards for being the most original show on tv (in Denmark), which of course is a hoax when the show isnt original at all.
-
Don't see it dude. Don't fucking see it.
-
Jody can really structure a character and manipulate the audience to sympathize, hate, laugh at/with him. McBride's ventures without Jody have been all misses.
-
Mike could play a mean-ass guitar solo though. Am I right? American Movie is one of my all time fave documentaries. It plays like a mockumentary but it is completely on the level. Absolute comic genius. I need to buy it....I got in on DVD from Netflix back when I still got DVD's in the mail like 10 times in 6 months. Love that freakin' flick.....and yes....Stevie from Eastbound and Down is a fucking hero and should be praised for how awesomely insane he is.
