Ambush Bug here. The below hour-plus long conversation took place between myself and my fellow @$$holes; wife of Matt Adler aka the lovely NutMeg, and our host Johnny Destructo of as we talked about HULK #50, HAWK & DOVE #8, AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1, FANBOYS VS ZOMBIES #1, FEAR ITSELF: THE FEARLESS #12, BATWING #8, DAREDEVIL #10.1, another rousing edition of @$$terpiece Theatre, and of course, more general jack@$$$ery!

Looks for more of the Holes rambling about comics on Poptards and in future AICN COMICS columns!

At least have a guest speaker who reads comics books and has more input than "I like the colored boxes." and her speech impediment made it nearly Impossible to understand much of anything else she said.

    Romita's art

    by oaser

was the worst part of AvsX -- I don't think his style is fitting for such an intentionally epic book. It's too cartoonish. DD is FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! Pham's art was a great addition to this issue. Don't you guys think that this issue of DD read more like a Spider-Man issue? Matt's buoyant dialogue is much like Peter's arrogant banter. I loved it, and I love Mark Waid -- this comic should be bought every month. And I'm curious as to why you didn't talk about bukkake and toss racist remarks around with Nutmeg? You guys are slipping . . .

  • April 10, 2012, 1:39 p.m. CST

Cool to hear Nutmeg back. About time.

    One more point on Daredevil...

    by Dogmatic

I love the way Waid handles his blindness as a big part of the character as well whereas some writers haven't. The issue that never has Matt in costume where he leads a bus full of blind school kids on a field trip to the Catskills was one of the best single issues Ive read in a long time.

    Hawk and Dove?

    by NightArrows

I'm consistently baffled by two things: A. Rob Liefeld keeps getting jobs B. There are actually ravenous Rob Liefeld fans out there who think "he's the best artist in comicdom". I guess "A" can't exist without "B", so there we go. As for Daredevil, it is one of my favourite reads. Wolverine and the X-Men being the other. Both are consistently awesome. A vs. X is good so far. Walt Simonson is doing a few Avengers issues is he not? I see he's also at least doing a Thor cover, if not the entire issue. If that's the case, I'm a happy fucking camper...

    racist bukkake

    by Poptard_JD

it's true, I guess I do tend to hold my tongue a bit if we have a lady on the show. I'm ashamed of myself.

Just read Mark Millar/Dave Gibbon's Secret Service.

    by Poptard_JD

VERY toned down for Millar. Seems like it could be a really solid t.v. show/drama

This book has been seriously fun. The art on the Mole Man arc was damn fine. It does read like a Spidey book. That has to be part of why I dig so much lately. Plus it takes place in the more ground level Marvel Universe. Thanks for doing this podcast. The drive to and from work on Tuesdays is infinitely better now.

I've been hearing great things about Waids work so I'll have to give it a shot.Is the latest issue a good stepping on point or do I have to get the back issues? Nice work on assterpiece theatre. Thanks!

    by Poptard_JD

I kind of forgot until recently how much I enjoy Waid's writing.

  • This is officially awesome. SO glad that you're enjoying it!

I may be biased, but given that the rest of us know so much about comics, I think it's good to have at least one "outsider"... a lot of times a new/casual reader will look at things in a way us hardcore fans will never even consider. And for comics to survive long-term, they've got to be able to attract the new/casual readers. Scrote, glad you enjoyed Megan's guest appearance! She may appear from time to time when I am not available. Oaser, what I want to know is, why don't these cads ever show any consideration for MY delicate ears?! They even roped my wife into leaving a crank voicemail for me, just 'cause I have to earn a living and wasn't available this week! *sob*

  • April 10, 2012, 10:32 p.m. CST

haha, Matt I forgot about that voicemail! We are such a bad influence!

    My Current Top favorite Comics

    by Jawsh Murdock

These aren't talked about a lot lately, but they are my current favorite titles: 1. Sweet Tooth 2. The Boys 3. Invincible 4. Ultimate Spider-man 5. Batman and Robin 6. Irredeemable 7. Punisher Max 8. Walking Dead 9. X-Factor 10. Luther Strode Some titles that I usually like but currently do not like are: Justice League, X-Men, Avengers, Amazing Spider-man (Oddly Peter Parker is my least favorite Spider-man right now. both Miles and Kaine are just more interesting at the moment).

  • April 10, 2012, 10:55 p.m. CST

A lot of positive talk about Avenging Spider-man, but I'm not sure why...

    by Jawsh Murdock

To me Avenging Spider-man reads like an over wrought children's cartoon rather than a compelling comic. I just don't dig it. Why is this such a popular title?

    1. Sweet Tooth - Have yet to get into. I tried, but gave up after 2 or 3 issues. I really have a hard time with the art. 2. The Boys - I love the few and far between "deep" moments, but get bored by Ennis trying to one-up himself all the time with gross stuff. 3. Invincible - YES. This title is consistently is: 4. Ultimate Spider-man - One of my fave books out there 5. Batman and Robin - This and Snyder's Batman are pretty awesome. And man, wait until you see the first page of tomorrow's issue. Loved it. 6. Irredeemable - Loved in the beginning, but quickly got tired. I find every other character that isn't the main character boring and hard to care about. 7. Punisher Max - The single best Punisher story ever told, IMHO 8. Walking Dead - Used to LOVE it, but it's starting to feel repetitive to me now 9. X-Factor - Off and on for me. I think I have to wait for trades on this, as I have trouble reading this in issues. 10. Luther Strode - This mini series was awwwwesome! As for Avenging Spider-Man, I'm just LOVING it. The humor really speaks to me and makes me LOL. It's better than Amazing right now, I think. Also, trust me, pick up tomorrow's Avenging's the beginning of the Omega Effect crossover with Daredevil and Punisher. If you aren't enjoying Zeb Wells' Spidey, have no fear, it's written by Mark Waid and Greg Rucka.

First, thank you JD and Bug for letting me sit in on this podcast. It was fun as always! @scrote thanks for listening, it's nice to know who the fans are. @kcviking thank you for loving all efforts on our assterpiece. @JD: Go ahead with the bawdy talk! I can take it! ;) @Johnpot: Sorry if I was difficult to understand. I am hard of hearing, but I will try to be clearer in the future.

Avenging Spiderman, to me, is everything I love about the character with none of the bullshit baggage that's been created over the years. He's witty, the action is well paced, the dialogue and interactions with the other Avengers are just awesome. The first arc with Red Hulk are two of my favourite Spidey issues ever. J. Jonah was PERFECT, and damn, it was just great. I don't understand how people can ask for an explanation as to why people like something. Either you like it, or you don't...
