New This Week

The movie “Logan’s Run” hit cinemas in 1976, the last big sci-fi movie before “Star Wars.” The TV series version of “Logan's Run” hit TV a year later, as “Star Wars” was in its fifth month of burning up the worldwide the box office. It only lasted 14 episodes.

Michael York and Jenny Agutter were replaced by Gregory Harrison and Heather Menzies. Instead of the fugitive-menacing robot Box, Logan 5 and Jessica 6 ran into the far friendlier lower-budget robot Rem, who looks like Donald Moffat in an ugly green sweater.

Logan, Jessica and Rem got around outside The Domes in a fancy silver hovercraft. It turns out there was a lot more beyond The Domes than Peter Ustinov.

In episode two they meet a bunch of powerful extraterrestrials. In episode three they contend with a big game hunter. Episode three featured Lisa Eilbacher, who auditioned to play Princess Leia. Tribbles creator David Gerrold wrote episode five, which has the gang run into a time traveler. Episode six, about a society that drains away negative personality traits, stars Kim Catrall, who would later play a Valeris the Vulcan. Episode seven, based on a story by Harlan Ellison, deals with everybody stumbling upon a cryogenic facility. Episode eight was about an asylum taken over by inmates. Mariette Hartley, who seduced Spock in the Ice Age, plays a sexy robot in episode 10. In episode 11 Logan returns to The Domes, gets his memory wiped and resumes his career as a Sandman. In the final episode, Rem is disassembled by more extraterrestrials and there’s a monster mutant.

The third and final season of the NBC anthology series “Night Gallery,” originally aired in 1972 and 1973, features Leonard Nimoy, Sally Field, Lindsay Wagner, Gary Lockwood, Dean Stockwell, Leslie Ann Warren, Vincent Price, Bill Bixby, John Astin, Mickey Rooney, Raymond Massey, Chuck Connors, Sandra Dee, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, Cesare Danova, Burl Ives, Ross Martin, Fernando Lamas, Will Geer, Slim Pickens and Rod Serling’s final collaboration with Burgess Meredith.

Emily's Reasons Why Not: The Complete Series

    by jim

Complete Series, as in "both episodes". (I'm kidding, I know they aired only one episode) Hey NBC, take note: ABC thinks they can recoup some of the losses they incurred a few years ago from this all-but-forgotten failed sitcom by putting it out on DVD. All seven 30-minute episodes for only $30! You know, NBC, I have to think there's a bigger market out there for a Journeyman Complete Series than there is for this One-and-Done show. So get on it! (and while you've got the DVD making machine all warmed up, why not also punch out a Raines Complete Series and Boomtown Season 2)

    GCB is DVD only!??!?!?!?

    by holysin

seriously WTF is up with this, first the early shows done in HD are dvd only, and now modern shows? Guess it's a good thing I cap HD from the air. sigh.

    by dukeroberts

Why is Ed still not out on DVD?

  • April 10, 2012, 10:40 p.m. CST

    You would think...

    by dukeroberts

With former stars of Ed like Julie Bowen, John Slattery, Justin Long and Gennifer Goodwin having successful careers these days that they would release Ed on Dvd, but alas! No Ed.

The Invisible Man- another show that was cancelled too soon.

    by F-18

and the thing of it is, SyFy reruns pretty much anything, including shows that aren't even Sci-Fi, but it acts like Invisible Man doesn't exist. I can't recall it being rerun any at all since it's cancellation.

    LOGAN'S RUN...more 70's sci fi crap!

    by Mark Williams

The movie was better than the TV show. Gregory Harrison got a better gig a few years later as Dr. Gonzo Gates on TRAPPER JOHN, MD. And is it me, or did most of the CBS 70's sci fi shows (LOGAN'S RUN, PLANET OF THE APES, INCREDIBLE HULK) seem like rip-offs of THE FUGITIVE???
