Ain't It Cool News (

Herc’s Friday TV Talkback!!
Chat Here About Fresh New FRINGE, GRIMM, FINDER, BOSS, TRUE JUSTICE And More!!

Last week Broyles suspended Olivia for having the wrong memories. Peter got a copy of Hump. And the wereporcupine who died in 1.13 staged a winged reboot. Tonight we get to see Fauxlivia and Walternate for the first time in a while. Fox says of tonight’s “Everything In Its Right Place”:

Lincoln travels to the other side to join forces with Bolivia and his own alternate, as they search for a vigilante with a surprising connection to the shapeshifters.

Returning tonight:

Python Hunters (10pm NGW)

Premiering tonight:

Magic City (10pm Starz), from writer Mitch Glazer (“Passion Play”) follows a fancy Miami beach hotel owner and the mobster who wants to take that hotel away. It’s a terrible show that Starz has already renewed for a second season!

* “Fringe” bounced back big after having hit a series low the week prior.

* “Grimm” hit a series low last week.

* “Undercover Boss” hit a season (series?) low last week.

* “In Plain Sight” dipped to another season low with its first post-Eric-The-Actor episode.

    Fringe, Herc?

    by popculturesymphony

I love this show. Herc, do you still have the love? You used to dedicate entire posts to it? Your fan

  • April 6, 2012, 3:09 p.m. CST

the only thing still worth watching on Friday night

    by popculturesymphony

  • Also NEW FRINGE!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hopefully Fox will keep it around for another season. Same for Fringe.

  • April 6, 2012, 3:12 p.m. CST

I hope Nikita pulls out of her ratings dive.

    by V'Shael

    But I strongly suspect she's a gonner.

  • April 6, 2012, 3:50 p.m. CST

I like Fringe and i like Anna Torv

    by rakesh patel

    suck it haters!

  • those who say they hate the show don't matter And the 2 idiots who show up here to hate shows won't be here today, because the show one hates is a rerun, and the other one who only loves Supernatural and hates everything else, same thing, Supernatural rerun - Have a happy holiday weekend, friends

  • April 6, 2012, 4:20 p.m. CST

    Ahh man, no Maher?

    by Judge Briggs

Welp, got to see him like last Saturday and he KILLED it. 1.5 hours long and a ton knee slapping. He's a funny and EXTREMELY smart dude. If you are a fan of his show, make sure to see him live at some point!

  • April 6, 2012, 4:24 p.m. CST

    Fringe was awful last week

    by Setthera

A giant Porcupine man with wings flying over the city. Awful.

Grimm is brain dead, and yet I watch.

    by Lily

I think it's the Monroe factor. Love that guy!

Man Fringe was awesome last week, can't wait to watch tonight!

    by Michael Lunney

did you like Peter David's Young Justice last week? He posts here occasionally

  • Saw them do a bangup extended version of it in concert in Atlanta. It was transcendent.

  • April 6, 2012, 5:54 p.m. CST

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Yeah I thought it was pretty great, not really a big fan of his X-Factor comic, but he does some pretty great stuff on Young Justice. I loved the complexities of Artimis familial relations and revelation. The Red Tornado side story was good also.

  • April 6, 2012, 5:56 p.m. CST

Maher is a no talent hack

    by angry kitty

Just kidding. Sorry, felt like it was going to be too positive of a TB and thought it was my responsibility to bring balance to the Force. All joking aside, I truly wish Grimm would get its act together. I really want to like that show, as it is an interesting premise, but unfortunately the lead seems to be a charisma black hole. Poor guy, I am sure he's trying.

its a lot better than all those crime procedurals on cbs

  • April 6, 2012, 8:14 p.m. CST

lololol Fringe just dropped a M.A.N.T.I.S. reference

    by zillabeast

  • April 6, 2012, 8:36 p.m. CST

    i remember M.A.N.T.I.S.

    by JaredP

it was a cool sci-fi, but of course FOX being FOX they cancelled it

  • April 6, 2012, 9:16 p.m. CST

    I liked the Finder better

    by Truxton Spangler

when it was called Human Target. It's an ok show, but one-and-done. I'd be surprised if Nikita isn't "cancelled" as well. It's become more enjoyable as it focuses on the serialized plots, but that's never a good way to attract new viewers. The only "Boss" worth watching has Kelsey Grammer, and doesn't air on CBS.

  • April 6, 2012, 9:22 p.m. CST

    Good Fringe too

    by zillabeast

So when does the 13-episode season 5 order become official?

  • April 6, 2012, 9:47 p.m. CST

    No Batman!?!?!

    by Billyeveryteen

    Can't live on Earth 2...

  • April 6, 2012, 10:28 p.m. CST

    jaredp, I loved M.A.N.T.I.S. too!

    by zillabeast

At least the pilot anyway. I was barely 10 but it was cool as shit at the time. TV had a string of sci-fi on at the time....TNG, DS9, B5, and SeaQuest were the big ones...but then you had shows like M.A.N.T.I.S., and Space Rangers, and Space Above and Beyond, and Tekwar, and Earth 2....not all of them were "good," but entertaining still!

  • April 6, 2012, 11:01 p.m. CST

    thank christ no Maher

now I won't have to wade through reams of horse shit written by retards arguing over phoney shit because they are too fucking stupid to think for themselves.

  • April 6, 2012, 11:04 p.m. CST

good thing five head's uncle owns the network

    by Xiphos_2

or Fringe would never have lasted beyond 13 shit filled episodes.

  • April 7, 2012, 12:19 a.m. CST

    Once again another great episode!

    by room23storeblogspotcom

  • April 7, 2012, 12:24 a.m. CST

I love how the episodes case always parallels what the characters are going through.

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Finally they are getting some traction with Meana (the actress herself gave that name) captured and help from our Lincoln. I just loved Lincolns journey in this episode.

  • April 7, 2012, 12:25 a.m. CST

    What I'm wondering though is

since this reality is the original reality why hasn't everyone started reverting back to normal like Olivia has?

    peter bishop well said

    by yourSTEPDADDY

but i really think the people who run networks, gamble with the other network runners over whose show is better sure i know advertisement is a big factor also, but in the long run, its still stupid putting shows on at the same time as another similiar-ish show. a show with poor ratings (based off timeslot) would get much better ratings at different timeslot (ie community on tuesdays or fringe on mondays)

  • April 7, 2012, 3:44 a.m. CST

    I like Kitchen Nightmares...

    by Andrew Coleman

But it's a weird lead in for Fringe. If you ever watch them back to back it's really weird.

  • April 7, 2012, 3:54 a.m. CST

The ony gripe I have with Fringe is..

    by stonefish

Olivias walk. Seriously, watch it. I can't take her seriously just because of her walk, I don't know if Torv is trying to pull off a manly, assertive strut but fuck! It looks positiely retarded. Watch Fringe, watch the walk, it will damn near ruin the character of Olivia for you.

  • April 7, 2012, 4:09 a.m. CST

    The problem with Fringe...

    by Volllllume3

It's alternate universe is much more interesting. Kind of like the matrix.

  • April 7, 2012, 6:13 a.m. CST

    GOOD for you, Fringe.

    by gotilk

You were great last week. Last night was great, too. Would you be okay with seeing us for another season? Altlivia/Fauxlivia is becoming a truly deep, layered character and Torv is shining in the role like she has not before. She's really grown as an actress over the years. I'm also loving the Walter/Peter buddy dynamic. They earned that one. Those were also some of the most disgusting, horrifying effects, practical or digital, that I have ever seen in anything... TV or film. I hope the ratings for last night were even better.

  • April 7, 2012, 6:19 a.m. CST

    by gotilk

Yeah, I notice the walk too. It's VERY pronounced with alternate universe Olivia and *I* don't notice it at all with original Olivia.

  • April 7, 2012, 6:42 a.m. CST

    Faux Olivia

    by fuck.wit

I don't know what it is, but I completely LOVE Torv as Faux Olivia but am a bit 'meh' in her original universe role. Just not interested. It's probably the hair (and the slightly sassy attitude)

  • There's just been too many crap filler episodes this season. Keeping seasons at 10-15 episodes is the way to do to it... You get to tell an amazing story and cut out all the garbage.

  • They should maybe think up something crazy to do, like alternate back and forth between universes. Episode 1 original universe, episode 2 other universe, and so on

  • April 7, 2012, 8:42 a.m. CST

Apparently the advanced Earth 2 medical science...

    by mdk

...while being able to cure being burned up, still has trouble with simple bullet wounds. Still, awesome episode.

  • April 7, 2012, 10:11 a.m. CST

I want a Fringe episode where...

by tangcameo of the sock puppet agents in the background, with a twin on the other side, shares info about both worlds with his twin, then quits Fringe Division and the army/FBI and tries to make a fortune on things that were bestselling on the opposite universe (ie one steals U2 music, the other steals John Lennon post-1980 music). Or the alternate universe suddenly discovers a new kids book Jerry Potter & The Magic Rock. And I'm definitely sure someone's reading these. Otherwise we wouldn't have the tv series Awake (me and my big mouth).

  • April 7, 2012, 10:54 a.m. CST

    Rocks for FOX

    by PhGeekPete

    Gotten your rocks off yet?

  • April 7, 2012, 11:40 a.m. CST

    Girlfriend in Grimm.

    by ShadowVision

One side story that is wearing thin is about her finding out he is a Grimm.

  • ...maybe The Ramones broke huge in the Alterverse and Johnny, Joey and DeeDee didn't die and that's their U2.

  • On a consistent basis, week after week for the entire show's run, Fringe's practical effects have been off-the-charts. It just so happens that most of the time they're so damn good, the show is so damn interesting that we forget to even notice they are there. Magnificent work.

  • April 7, 2012, 1:21 p.m. CST

    Re : stonefish Olivia's Walk

    by Real Deal

That's funny because I seem to notice a big difference between Olivia's walk and Fauxlivia's. Fauxlivia's is much more agressive and manly than Olivia's. Kind of like she's been hanging out at a trucker's bar.

    also lol at gene

    by yourSTEPDADDY

  • In the episode where Peter first went over, Walternate put him up in an apartment where he had some of his old comics hanging up in frames. One was a riff on Death of Superman but it was Death of Batman with a black cover with the Bat logo rendered in blood. Another was Giffen's version of the Justice League except it had Jonah Hex instead of Shazam, but Batman was on there. Busted!

  • April 7, 2012, 4:50 p.m. CST

    by My Pretty Pony

I don't think it was an oversight that Batman doesn't exist in the alternate universe now. Both universes would be changed/affected by Peter being supposedly erased and serving as a bridge. That universe is not the same as it was last season, just like our universe is not quite the same. Last season, Peter got Fauxlivia pregnant when she was pretending to be our Olivia and now that has been erased, so I don't think it's a big deal that a comic book character no longer exists in their universe, either.

Man I love finder (and will miss it!)

    by holysin

not sure why they felt the need to air the show so out of order, but such is life. Here's to fox giving it another year as it is quite well written. However, I love it, and have watched it live, that suggests its days are numbered :(

  • April 7, 2012, 7:31 p.m. CST

    Gutted about

    by theGoldbergV

Alt-Lincoln being killed off in such a way. He was far more interesting than our Lincoln and having been burnt to a crisp before you'd think a gun shot wouldn't be too much of a problem. I guess them be the breaks. While I like that they always reflect what's going on the character's lives in the theme of the case, I do wish they wouldn't lay it on so thick. We get it, come on Fringe we can remember all the many versions of each character we don't need it all spelt out for us that Lincoln needs to 'find his place on the world' by having him tell the same thing to shapeshifter. Twice. Other than that though, good episode. The 'over there' stories were a highlight of season 3 so its nice to see it again. Wonder where alt-Charlie is though. My theory is Walter is next to revert to the old version of himself. His love for Peter will awaken him, like it did for Olivia. If each universe is merely the perception of it by a person then it could all make sense. We are just watching Peter's universe, and the only way to share the perception of universes is through love. Kinda cheesy I know but I bet that's where it's heading

There was a one line comment in this seasons premiere about how he was honeymooning with the bug lady. I admit that its been an aweful long honeymoon though. Although the real reason they did it was that the actor who played Charlie is on a new show or something, Although I heard that it got caneled, so hopefully we see him again.

I've kind of liked Finder but...

    by tangcameo

...the ridiculous props just blew a hole in my suspension of disbelief, even for a that almost seems out of the Stephen J Cannell era of 80s television. Who the hell has a gigantic billiards counter with a gigantic eye, ear, and hand? Wouldn't a whiteboard with pictures of those have been easier for the prop department.

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Its the whole butterfly effect that was explained last season in the Christofer Lloyd episode where his child died because of a little act which Walter did that had reverberating effects. I would guess that they didn't have a knowledge of Batman since according to the posters in Peter room in the season 3 Premiere it showed in the Crisis comic Superman holding Batman instead of Supergirl. So that side probably had Batman, but since he had died in the early 80's when Crisis on Infinate Earths came out (assuming that Comics went against the grain and didn't resurrect him). Most average people off the street now know characters like Superman and Spiderman, Batman and X-Men and a handful of others, but most don't really know about Super Girl. Batman in that world was killed off and thus did not have the chance to have 7 movies and animated series and tons of comics which made him an icon on the same level as Superman. So again because of the butterfly effect caused by Peter being saved someone off the street like Bolivia and Alt-Lincoln would probably not have known about Batman. Mantis filled the void that was left when Batman was killed off.

    Peter's timline and Batman

    by PlayerHater_of_the_year

Doesn't have anything to do with Batman existing or not in the alternate universe. Thats a product of the two different univeres like how in universe 1 the Dodgers are in LA and Universe 2 they are still in Brooklyn. Batman was never invented in Universe 2 instead they had a hero called Mantis. The timeline and the universes are two seperate things. Its confusing but the paralel universes exist in the same timeline, Peter was yanked out of the time line so people and things he interacted with have been altered. Its a confusing plot device and I don't think it adds a whole lot to the show's premise.
