The Kidd here...
I used to love the shit out of Oliver Stone's flicks. Just look at the rundown of his early work - PLATOON, WALL STREET, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, THE DOORS, JFK, NATURAL BORN KILLERS, NIXON... they make the films he's been doing in recent years look like mediocre garbage. They might be good enough for lesser filmmakers, but, for Stone, the likes of ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, WORLD TRADE CENTER, W., ALEXANDER and WALL STREET 2 pale in comparison to his best.
That brings us to SAVAGES, which looks like vintage Oliver Stone. MTV debuted the first trailer of his adaptation of Don Winslow's book, and damn if there doesn't feel like a decent amount of NBK to this. It's a departure from that satirical style, but it is frantic, it is hard-hitting, and it looks bad-ass. Could this be a return to the Oliver Stone of old? We'll find out on July 6.
