It's A Good Day For A Couple Of Possible Villains To Be Cast In A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD!!
The Kidd here...
There's still been no match for Hans Gruber in trying to defeat John McClane in the DIE HARD series - not William Sadler, not John Amos, not Jeremy Irons and not Timothy Olyphant. However, that's not going to stop Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir from doing their best in making an impression in that villainous legacy.
Koch and Snigir have been cast as Komorov and Irinia respectively in A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, says Variety. While not much is known about their characters at this point, it is thought they'll serve as the film's villains, and they'll be in Russia, which is where the fifth DIE HARD film is set to take place.
This time out, McClane links up with his son (Jai Courtney), and they'll have to work together to make their way out of another "wrong guy, wrong place, wrong time" situation.
Koch has been seen before in THE LIVES OF OTHERS and UNKNOWN, but Snigir is fresh on the scene, so you probably have no idea who she is.

Now you do.
A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD is hoping to bring the love back to the DIE HARD franchise on February 14, 2013.

Neither do you since you spelled her first name wrong.

The last one was just ok. We need someone that could go toe to toe Gruber. Not try to be exactly like Gruber.

I pray there's a contract that when Bruce is 80, he and J. McTeirnan will make DIE HARD IN AN OLD AGE HOME. Make it serious, or a spoof if necessary.

Yulia is her name. Julia is an Americanized version of that. Thanks for playing.
-
I see what you did there. I lol'd.
-
The last Die Hard movie could have been called "Green" because that's all I can remember seeing on screen. That movie was unrecognizable as a DIE Hard movie and this will probably continue that trend. I hate that he has to team up with people who are never mentioned again...and I literally fucking laughed when I google search the dude playing his son! hahahah seriously?? that fucking douchey looking motherfucker??

Imdb.com and Wikipedia both have her first name listed as Yuliya, not Yulia. Pretty sure that's what Cletus was getting at. Thank you for playing.

Part 2 was a weaker sequel, but Sadler was still a decent villian.
-
was taken in 1972. Just sayin'...

It's a very, VERY short list.

and that ain't a bad thing. Agree on Sadler, had a lot of fun watching him in DH2.

Interesting.

Looks like the entrance to those Cracker Barrel restaurants. Why the hell couldn't they have that on the menu?
-
So we'll be getting Bruce getting his ass beat again by an 80 pound waif. Terrific. Live Free or Die Hard was bad enough, when that bitch kept getting up after getting a serious beating AND GETTING HIT BY A FUCKING TRUCK, I checked out. Fuck that. Fuck this.
-
The first one is still king, but part two still had that great vibe and visual style the first one had, plenty of cartoonishly manly men in hard-nosed action, a great atmosphere with the snow, and some very cool twists and turns. For me, it completely blows away the DH films that came afterward. It's the only one that feels to me like part of the same story. After DH2, Willis looked different, the films were shot differently, and the fun magic of 80s action films was officially gone. DH2 may be the last, or one of the very last, great action films from that singular time.
-
Not that I'm really complaining....but I do prefer my sexy to have SOME subtlety to it. This chick does not know the meaning of the word.

Never understood where all the hate for DH2 came from. I loved it! And Sadler's Col. Stewart and his men were GREAT villains! Here's why I love it...
by Dogmatic
I liked how they upped the ante so much replacing Gruber and his professional but not military-trained group with Col. Stewart and his cadre of former Ranger,SEAL,Green Beret mercenaries. In Die Hard McClane is the better fighter...he just is at such a disadvantage b/c of being trapped in the building without shoes and much weapons. In DH2 he is at a disadvantage b/c he is simply not as GOOD as the villains. He struggles with every single fight he is in to find a way to win and he gets beat almost at every turn from losing the guy to a foot chase to failing to stop all the SWAT guys from getting killed to failing to stop that 747 from crashing to failing to capture Esteban before the baddies go to him to realizing he's been totally duped by the Green Beret squad sent to help out to even getting his ass handed to him in the final battle with Stewart. Only that McClane will to get it done and a lighter saved the whole thing from being an utter failure. And THAT's what I love about DH2.

Thanks, @krypton kid! I love the analysis that @dogmatic just gave, too.
by kevred
Great observation from @dogmatic. That "holy crap, how am I going to handle this situation?" vibe is something so central to the first two DH films. It really helped them stand out and made the action so much more exciting.
-
But I personally liked DHWAV more than the first two. I still loved the first two but I thought number three was just the most non stop action packed one of them all. You never knew what was gonna happen next in that one and jeremy irons was awesome as simon. Live free was like watching a video game character come to life. Mcclane became a cartoon character in that one, jumping off jets and flying cars into helicopters. Apparentl in this new one he's supposed to be saving the whole world. Shit, shit, shit, absolute shit!!!!!!!!!

Holy vagina! I just came!

I wonder if they'll kill off Brucie and use his son in future movies.... god I hope not. I'd like to see him do a die hard when he's like 80 years old.

Original DH still one of the best all time. I love DH2 though. The exploding plane at the end from the gasoline trailing from the wing is still amazing to watch. So much better than any cgi crap today.

Why not have Neveldine & Taylor direct it and just turn it into a live action cartoon already. Thats the path the series has been taking anyway.

The buddy chemistry between Willis and Jackson and Jeremy Irons as Hans Grubbers brother out for revenge it was pretty cool. Dunno why they dont bring out another of the Grubber family out for revenge against Willis evil germans always work.
-
This was meant to be a reaction to the news of a Russian man-and-woman duo of villains (I know, the Russian thing doesn't technically pertain to my reference but work with me here). Now it's just a very confusing reaction to the photograph.
-
I predict that if she doesn't fully Americanize her name, before the movie is done being promoted some idiot will mis-hear her last name and claim a racial slur has been used...
-
Not only can Hans Gruber not be topped, never forget it was Rickman's first film role... at 42.

re: "Dunno why they dont bring out another of the Grubber family out for revenge against Willis"
by buggerbugger
Just bring Gruber back as a crippled genius in a robotic exo-skeleton. He survived the fall at the end of 'Die Hard' and has been planning his ultimate revenge all these years. Hell, bring him back as a full-on RoboGruber, with built-in weaponry of instant doom.
-
The whole revenge ploy was a smokescreen to distract the authorities while he stole, and even though it's been years since I saw that flick I'm pretty sure he says exactly that at one point.
-
Some people on here get it. The appeal is McClane loses and gets his ass kicked CONSTANTLY but manages to win because in the end, he is nigh impossible to kill. That doesn't mean he's James Bond, leaping from planes to cars or whatever, but rather he doesn't give up. He'll fucking rip wire out of his own shoulder with his own teeth just to keep going. He's like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going. This movie is going to suck because they're throwing him into some international incident, it's going to be PG-13, and he's going to run around like James Bond. So lame.
-
Bloody awesome movie. Sure the ending wasn't amazing but Irons rocked - balancing a sneer and hamming it up like a trouper. <p> The blonde chick in WAV did brutality crossed with alluring far better and believably too than the cartoon wench that was in Live Free
-
1) Die Hard 2) Die Hard: With a Vengeance 3) Die Hard 2 4) Live Free or Die Hard 5) A Good Day To Die Hard Number 5 is only 5th because it's not out yet, of course. While I enjoyed Die Hard 2 very much, there was more depth to With a Vengeance, in my opinion. It felt like a more complete film.
-
Yes, big step up from strong character actors and Oscar nominees. I can only imagine the rest of the production is equally strong. Willis's salary is in beer, right?

DH2 was shit. Typical Renny Harlin bilge. Vengeance was almost really good. But the ending was all wrong. Irons should have won, and mere survival should have been victory enough for McClane. The actual ending was rubbish.

Safe House, even with its flaws, felt more like Die Hard than any DH sequels.
by Executor
DH is about an every day joe who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. Reynolds pulled off the winning despite being 3 steps behind vibe that was reminiscent of Die Hard or Harrison Ford in Patriot Games. Now they just want to make John McClane into James Bond. Did Willis take that much of the budget that they can't afford decent actors for the bad guys?
-
WRONG.it was great,a worthy successor to the original masterpiece.

Not even in the same league. Safe House is just your run-of-the-mill Denzel studio action film with some ok character work between him and Reynolds. If you're into his stuff, go for one of his better ones, say Deja Vu or Man on Fire. The Book of Eli isn't bad either allthough its more of a drama than straight up action. Same thing with Fallen. Something thats at least not trying to be overly formulaic like Safe House. Even Denzel would admit that was one for the money. We kneel at the throne of Die Hard due to the awesome character work and plotting that put Willis as an equal and in the middle between the Police, the FBI, the Terrorists, and even the Press and having to take fire from all sides in order to find some way to to defeat the bad guys with the cards stacked against him and get tore up doing it.
-
Fuck this new Die Hard movie.. It's all about Gareth Evans now, he fucking own this shit..

Don't be foolish. Renny Harlin is a terrible director, and DH2 is a typical Harlin film. Absolutely clueless about how to build tension and direct action. There's a reason he doesn't get work any more. The only tolerable movie he's ever made is The Long Kiss Goodnight. DH2 - dear god, it's bad. All that shit with the bad guys fighting among themselves (which happens a lot in Harlin films, such as the execrable Cliffhanger), and then the ludicrous garbage with the blank ammunition. The plot feels like it's being invented on the fly, and the direction is cheap and limp. Harlin is sub-Bay, in the same category as Simon West and Paul W S Anderson. Baaaaaaaad. Of course, the masterstroke in DH2 is the planes that run out of fuel and crash, exploding in huge balls of fire as all the fuel they don't have ignites.

This franchise is dead - reboot under a new name and new actor
by rakesh patel
seriously execs how difficult can that be? Willis does not hold the rights to " wrong guy in the wrong place" that's practically every action film i've seen steven seagal did it in under siege. the die hard well is dry. build up a new franchise with a new star. Use Dwanye Johnson, he's fucking criminally underused, and it should have happen for him years ago.
-
Yeah he says his brother was an arsehole but he also says there is a difference between disliking a brother and letting somone throw him out of a window!!! So yeah bring back the Gruber family. Robbert Pattinson as the son/nephew out for revenge !

Die Hard 1-3 were all pretty fun action flicks, with the first one being a true classic action film
by lv_426
DH2 and 3 both have their moments and some cool action, and Willis was in good form. DH4 was missing something. Too slick and McClane was maybe too bad ass. My non-official DH4 is another Bruce Willis film, the action/thriller Hostage. For some reason, Hostage felt like a proper Die Hard in ways that LFODH didn't. I think I'd like to see another Die Hard that goes back to the claustrophobic, contained thriller feel of the original Die Hard. All the DH sequels took place in more open locales, with McClane running or driving all over the place. It would be fun to go back to something confined like DH1. Recently there were two Die Hard in the White House spec script sales in Hollywood. Olympus Has Fallen, and White House Down. Too bad the next Die Hard didn't have a concept like that. Now we're back to the 1990's with more Die Hard clones.
-
Speed in the air, with a passenger plane being the setting could be interesting. Not many more locations left that haven't already been exploited by the Die Hard franchise and all the Die Hard clones.
-
While John McClane shops hard at the Mall of America, an armed crew of holiday humbuggers takes the mall by force, sending McClane into the air ducts to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the terrorists who've lost their Christmas spirit.

The most glaring and obvious reason DH4 sucked so much ass: The villans were not convincing, reminded me of the bad guys you would find in a made for tv sy-fy movie
by raging bullshitter
-
April 6, 2012, 5:42 a.m. CST
If they're going to make this the villain should be an RSC actor...
by workshed
...someone like Anthony Sher, or Simon Russell Beale, who can chew the f*ck out of the script and spit it back out at McClane in a way that winds him up like a coiled Yankee spring. The to's and fro's between Willis and Rickman were the secret to DH's success. Why the producers have chosen to go with what Steve Coogan would define as a 'vaguely Scandinavian-type' is a bit laughable.
