Samples Of Silvestri's AVENGERS Score Are Now Online!!
Merrick here...
Some friends over in the U.K. have called my attention to a listing on their Amazon site, where samples of Alan Silvestri's score for THE AVENGERS have been posted preceding the music's full/formal issuance on April 20th.
The score sounds appropriately HUGE, not surprising given that it's coming from Silvestri. A touch of what appears to be an AVENGERS "theme" can be found on Track 18 ("The Avengers"), and there's a particularly lovely movement hinted at in Track 17 ("A Promise").
NOTE that track listing could conceivably contain SPOILERS, but there doesn't seem to be anything too revealing from what I can tell.

Just finished listening to the samples. Sounds pretty generic. Damn.

Nothing really stands out. I guess Zimmer is the only real game in town these days.
-
Give me a fucking M E L O D Y please! I'd rather listen to "The Merry Marvel Marching Society" than this tuneless stew of notes.
-
I can picture reading some of the classic Avengers books and just having that as background music.
-
The only decent band on it, Soundgarden, doesn't sound particularly great after a 15 year hiatus. I expected a lot more from their first new song in over a decade. The rest of the bands vary from bad to outright awful. And since that is the "soundtrack," Silvestri's album shouldn't be referred to as the same (as it is on that cover art).
-
...that there isn't a track on that CD called 'Titty Jiggle Fight'.

Basic, Standard and actually disppointing for a move of this magnitude.

Remember when movie scores had a hook, something you would walk out of the theater humming or whistling and couldn't get out of your head for days? Everything seems very generic and similar now days. -- End of Line --

who listens to cheesy ass movie music anyway. Bah
-
listened to the first track bit and immediately thought of Elfman's Batman soundtrack...but will reserve judgement since it was a snippet.

Should have went with someone who hasn't been medicore for years now.

The man is past his prime, we needed much better than this for Avengers.

Thanks, Merrick! I really like the majestic "Avengers" Theme!
by The Reluctant Austinite
I hope that theme is woven into the movie. I missed the days of thematic scores!

Wow, what a bunch of crappy, mainstream "rock" bands on the soundtrack. They missed Nickelback.
by The Reluctant Austinite
Bring back AC/DC. These bands are blandest of the bland of modern "rock." I guess that makes me a Boiler on this thread!
-
Agreed. Soundtrack and Score are two different things, and are in all movies these days. They should be labeled as such(properly).
-
compare tracks 1, 13 and18, you can hear the leitmotif, I suppose for the team, building up, and most of the tracks contain a lot of brass which gives it an epic, regal sound, but it isn't conveying a lot of emotion like the best soundtracks do. And yes they are just samples, but there seemed to be a lack of non-action oriented music in the tracks.

Like Elfman's Dark Shadows samples from the other day
by Samuel Fulmer
Sounds preaty damn good. I'm glad this is more in line with Silvestri's work on Captain America and not the garbage G.I. Joe score.
-
...at this point we're dealing with small pieces of larger works. It will be much easier to 'fairly' judge the soundtrack (love or hate) once we've actually heard the soundtrack.
-
Has there been any other company in the history of cinema that has cared less about their scores than Marvel? I mean the music is fine and generic as fuck, is that Marvel's ultimate goal with Avengers to be the ultimate in blandness?

The theme makes me think of, like, Airwolf. MacGyver. A-Team.
by spacehog
Then again, I don't know a thing about orchestral music, so I'm not even sure what about the music I'm responding to.
-
...that little bit at the end of "The Avengers" is promising.
-
But oh how I wish the late John Barry was still around. I think he'd do a killer Avengers score!
-
Haha, comicbook joke.
-
Just gives a list of tracks on the album. Clicking each track just takes you to that track's page, but no link to any samples.
-
Just kidding. The samples really are gone tho. :( Linkage anyone?
