Herc’s Thursday TV Talkback!! Chat Here About COMMUNITY’s ‘Pillows & Blankets’!! Plus The DELOCATED Finale, AWAKE, PERSON, PUNK’D, BANG, MENTALIST, TOUCH, ROCK, UP, AMERICAN IDOL And More!!

Vice Dean Layborne is expected back next week, presumably to reap what he has sown. In the meantime:

Returning tonight:

Cold Blood (9pm ID)

Truck Stop (8pm Travel)

Sand Masters (9pm Travel)

Premiering tonight:

Not Safe For Work (9pm Tru) “offers its own unique spin on stunts gone wrong, dumb criminal fails and countless embarrassing moments caught on tape.”

Scandal (10pm ABC), from writer-producer Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice,” “Off The Map”), follows a D.C.-based crisis-management firm.

* Tim Kring’s “Touch” fell to a new low last week even though lead-in “American Idol” was up and “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Office” were repeats.

* “The Pauly D Project” is not attracting the audience “Jersey Shore” did. Is JWOWW the true key to “Shore” success?

* With “The Office” in repeats, “Community” was again NBC’s top Thursday show despite having to compete with a new “Big Bang Theory.”

* “Awake” fell to a 1.0, below “Vampire Diaries” and barely ahead of “Mudcats.” “Prime Suspect” and “The Firm” both hit lower lows though.

* “The Office” returns with new episodes next week; “Parks and Recreation” returns the following week.

    not touched by touch

    by rakesh patel

i watched 20 minutes and gave up on the first epsiode knowing this had been created by kring. two people asked me sperately if they should watch it, i said don't bother, they watched anyhow and reported back that i was right. i wonder how the whole community chevy vs harmon has played out on the show. in rl seems harmon has stepped up and admitted he was an ass. hope chevy stays. wonder if joel says something about the shenanigans in the soup?

  • April 5, 2012, 6:34 a.m. CST

    also dropped the The Mentalist

    by rakesh patel

i got other stuff going on, so watching less, mentalist seemed one of the weak ones on my must see tv list. its more interesting with Red John, but those eps normally happened in the last 2 of the season.

Herc!! Why always a clip from LAST WEEK'S Person of Interest?

    by Cheif Brody

Y'know, CBS provides a promo clip for TONIGHT'S new episode. Yer always one week outta sync with the show, brutha. Last weeks was good, with Finch trippin balls on Extascy!
Tosh.0 should sue "Not Safe For Work", "Ridiculousness" and "Right This Minute" for plagerism. Daniel runs circles around these knock off "best of the viral video" shows. Some of those clips in that "NSFW" promo were already featured on Tosh.0 a YEAR ago!
Lookin forward to tonight's Community....but...try as they might with crazy Greendale stunts...they will never top that 1st Paintball episode.

  • April 5, 2012, 9:50 a.m. CST

Anyone else *a little* disappointed in Community this season?

    by theGoldbergV

There's still been great episodes (just not as many) and great lines here and there, but it seems to have lost a little spark. Plus its started doing the type of life-lesson type plots I'd more associate with Scrubs than Community. I still love it when its on form, but this year I've wanted to like it far more than I have. Is it just me?

  • April 5, 2012, 9:58 a.m. CST

    Not disappointed in Community

    by SifoDyasJr

The crazier it gets the more I love it. It's been pretty fucking crazy this season. Tonight's Civil War pillow fight will be amping that up!

Community should do an alternate doppleganger episode.

    by Cheif Brody

The study group arrives at the library only to find their table already occupied by: 1. Daniel Tosh (pseudo Jeff)
2. Alexis Bledel (pseudo Annie)
3. Aziz Ansari (pseudo Abed)
4. Bill Murray (pseudo Pierce)
5. Aisha Tyler (Pseudo Britta)
6. Melissa McCarthy (Pseudo Shirley)
7. Jordan Peele (Pseudo Troy)
But their personalities are all mixed up. Tosh is the jock who didn't get the sports scholarship. Murray's the snarky, bitter disbarred lawyer. Bledel is the nerd with no social skills or outward emotions. Aziz is the social activist, hipster psych major. Aisha is the overly Christian mom who says "That's nice" alot. Peele is the tightly wound, naive straight A student...and McCarthy is the clueless, befuddled heir to a douche manufacturer.
The Community cast infiltrates this new study group and are given the task of partnering up with who represents them at the table, only to find they are better matched to another member of the group. By meeting their dopplegangers, they find a new understanding of their own group members idiocycrasies.
The scenes with Chevy & Bill are worth the hackneyed premise alone! Perhaps at a Greendale golf tournament?
Annie sleeps with Aziz only to have Abed observe that that would be like Annie sleeping with Britta. (CUT TO DREAM SEQUENCE!)
In the end, the entire doppleganger cast is killed when their Greendale field trip bus drives off a cliff.

cheif brody - very creative suggestion, sport!!!!!!

    by Michael Lunney

Great imagination! I could see an episode like that one becoming a classic of the show. You sound not only like a great fan of the series but also a clever, creative guy!!!! Do I remember you from Lost talkbacks, or was that someone else?

  • I know trgis is becoming more and more commonplsced, but on Community's surreal environs, it seemed pretty heavy handed.......

  • April 5, 2012, 12:10 p.m. CST

    They better not cancel AWAKE

    by aceattorney

    Please people - watch it!

  • April 5, 2012, 12:41 p.m. CST

Annie or Britta ... who's more fuckable?

    by Judge Briggs

Tough call ... I am leaning toward Annie because I love brunettes ... Still, Britta is tiny yet curvy. Great combo. Please, discuss.

  • April 5, 2012, 12:48 p.m. CST

    That was me, McGoo!

    by Cheif Brody

I remember ya! Thanks for the props on the doppleganger idea.
Speaking of "fan fiction", my "fan fiction" idea for a PROPER ending to LOST was way better than the crap we got served up by Lindeloff & Cuse!
In my version...The Losties are saved by the two babies, Aaron & Ji Yeon...as grown up adults...who team up & return to the island...from the future!
Sure...it uses the time travel cliche... But it's way better than..."Guess what? We all died in the crash and have been stuck in limbo land".
BTW...if Community gets cancelled...I hope that's how the show ends....the study room was actually...Limbo Land.

  • April 5, 2012, 12:52 p.m. CST

Oh...and Aaron & Ji Yeon are forced to stay on the island...

    by Cheif Brody

as a sacrifice to save the Losties....and it turns out...the skeletons in the cave...are actually THEIR corpses!
POOM

Thought the Subway stuff was hilarious

    by Timahh

didn't mind it a bit. If product placement is either sneaky, or funnily used it doesn't bother me. Not nearly as much as the amount of tv shows/movies in which every character only uses one brand of cellphone/computer/tv. Also, not sure how you can think a corporation creating a human embodiment of itself doesn't fit into a "surreal environ"

  • April 5, 2012, 1:42 p.m. CST

    also,

    by Timahh

nobody is impressed by your use of "environ"

    Subway

    by TheHumanBeingAndFish

Yeah, I thought the Subway stuff last week was hilarious as well... By the way, is it just me, or was the title was the title of last week's episode supposed to be a clue as to the nature of the "deviant sex act" between Britta and the Subway guy?

  • April 5, 2012, 2:06 p.m. CST

    Agreed, aceattorney

    by Sodomy_Joe_Shitpants

I just had a Subway for lunch OK, you guys win- just wondering - it didn't really bother me that much either - it just reminded me of when Subway did it on Chuck, and on Chuck it was not as much fun...

  • April 5, 2012, 3 p.m. CST

    cheif brody

    by Michael Lunney

I never took it that they all died in the crash on Lost and all that stuff happened in the real world, not limbo. Was there something definitive I missed that spelled out that they were in Limbo, or is that just your interpretation? - and after initiially being disappointed, I thought the ending made a lot of sense for Lost. But I would love to see your Community episode played out- sounds like a lot of fun! Cheers....

  • April 5, 2012, 3:05 p.m. CST

cheif brody, that is a better ending.

    by Gene Cowan

It has some flaws, sure, but I agree that it would have been a cooler WTF ending that tied things together in a more satisifying way. Their main problem is that they didn't have the ending planned out from the get-go. I like your Community ep premise, too. Might be kinda hard to get ALL of those actors in the same ep, but it's an awesome idea nonetheless.

  • I remember many YEARS where some of my favorite shows were on Thursday. Now, if there's not a good NBA game to watch I don't even turn on the TV.

  • geez.................................

  • April 5, 2012, 3:16 p.m. CST

    Rob

    by nate7377

    Where's Rob? Great Show.

  • They didn't die in the crash. They died on the Island the way we saw them die (jin and sun drown... Jack dies watching the plane leave...) The whole flash sideways was a limbo, but a limbo for everyone who experienced and bonded together on the island. There was no time there, so yes, Hurley was there as well, but he lived a long life on the island before dying and meeting everyone there. When Jack finally came to grips that "flash sideways" was a limbo for them, they could move on. It was pretty straight forward... The island was not limbo. All that said... Bring on Community.

  • April 5, 2012, 3:46 p.m. CST

    McGoo...No, it wasn't purgatory.

    by Cheif Brody

It just felt that way! I dunno...having them go thru all that shit for 6 season, only to have them all meet up in God's waiting room...just took the life out of it for me... literally!
I 'spose what lingered was how ambiguous that ending was...think it was a total cop out. I didn't want a "we'll leave it up to YOU to decide" ending...I wanted something more definitive, I guess. LOST was the greatest show ever...but they did NOT stick the landing....much like Flights 815 & 316! But the series, as a whole, gets a lifetime pass from me!
As for my Community idea...I could totally see a scene where Shirley assumes shes the match to Aisha Tyler, cuz she's black...and very attractive. But, the group tells her that Melissa McCarthy is her doppleganger...and Shirley says... "Oh... so I'm a fat white lady now? That's just wrong!"... Then it turns out Aisha IS more like her.

  • April 5, 2012, 5:16 p.m. CST

I don't think AICN run gossip stories like that, do they?

    by buffywrestling

Unless it pertains to the status of a show or movie. Right now, it's speculation if Chevy will be back or not. Or even if it gets picked up for the 4th season. There is a nice gawker article re: Breakdown of Chevy being an asshole. http://gawker.com/5899097/hes-not-chevy-hes-an-asshole-a-history-of-chevy-chases-horrific-behavior

It's gossip regarding a TV show

    by buffywrestling

So I don't think it does? Are you referring to Charlie Sheen stuff though? I don't clink on those links, so maybe you are right... I missed a lot of stuff because the formatting here sucks so much balls, it makes me feel like not posting much :(

  • April 5, 2012, 6:37 p.m. CST

Goldie - The only way I'm disappointed with this season

    by buffywrestling

is that they episodes are being shown out of order. It makes the characterization seem unnecessarily choppy & actions have less consequence. For a season that was supposed to be dark & introspective for the characters, it's just not hitting those notes. Comedies like the Big Bang Theory, the consequences are played in such a benign way - Penny is alcoholic & whore-ish, Raj is an obvious closeted gay man & Sheldon has Asperger's - and none of that shit is addressed. It's just empty to me. I still watch and find it harmless in a way but it is becoming a chore as time rolls on. I have a higher expectation for Community because what they have accomplished already.

  • April 5, 2012, 6:59 p.m. CST

    It's starting....

    by buffywrestling

I don't think anyone will really *get* this episode if you haven't seen Ken Burns' Civil War. Or at least, that is what I've been hearing. And if you haven't seen Ken Burns' Civil War - Shame on you! Yous call yous-self a patriot!!

Buffy - yeah actually that's a good point

    by theGoldbergV

I heard the episodes were out order, would make sense. In season 2 the continuity of characterisation was really good, maybe it's the hiatus and the sequencing but I haven't felt it as much this year. I like that they've tried something different this time round and moved away from the "self-contained escapades" of season 2, I just haven't found the episodes as funny. In particular the documentary redux and he foodsball ones, I think as Harmon would say they were "weak pizza". I am intrigued as to just what the deal is with Goodman's character though, last week was really odd. What's with the hair?

    Community nailed it tonight!

    by Cheif Brody

Loved the homage to Ken Burns. Episode will hold up well to viewers in 2163...
People will be like...."Wow...people in the olden days only had text, Twitter & Facebook to update their Zeeborb status. God...that must have been sooooo sloooooow".

  • April 6, 2012, 12:12 a.m. CST

I guess I'm in the minority.....I'm losing interest in Community

    by Bobo_Vision

It's getting way too autistic for my liking. Troy started out as a jock, and that gave the show some balance....but now he's living in an autistic dream with Abed, and the others often join him, like they did tonight. It's getting tedious. Like listening to the same record over and over again. Writers need to step it up.

    Tonight's episode

Tonight's episode of Community was genius. I laughed throughout the whole episode.

Troy hasn't been or identified as a "jock"

    by buffywrestling

for a looog time. Around the same time that they last identified Winger as a "lawyer" actually. It's not about those tropes anymore. The whole point is out growing them. They started out as singularities - hence the pilot's "Breakfast Club" ref - but they have gelled into something different now. And I would seriously be pissed off if Troy stared to toss a football around again. That would feel like so much of a step backward in his progression.

POI and Awake were great again tonight

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Person of Interest - I loved how we got Elias backstory and that they finally got him. Although he was still able to have 4 of the 5 mob bosses knocked off. great stuff. Awake - I thought sure that the crazy guy was goingto be revealed to be another person being given duel realities to cover something up. Interesting stuff!

    Person of Interest...

    by Gislef_crow

Well, that was the best of the season. Lots of fun dialogue (Carter saying she might as well kill the Dons herself if she hands them over and Elias saying it would be really helpful if she could schedule it in - Reese discussing his early-morning yoga with Finch). Enrico Colontani is the best not-so-psycho "I'm just trying to be the best mob boss I can be" ruthless jerk is fun. Still wish they'd just let Fusco and Carter know that they're both working for Reese and Finch.

    I'm with bobo_vision re: Community.

    by tonagan

It seems like they're trying way too hard to be clever.

  • April 6, 2012, 5:14 a.m. CST

Trying too hard to be clever?

    by buffywrestling

Too hard to be CLEVER?? Should they be less clever? Less smart? You want them to dumb it down for you. Is this really what you guys are asking for? Explain to me as I was a child...(Galaxy Quest_) References go over your head, so instead of - I don't know - being curious about them & finding out what the pop cultural references are referring to, you'd rather the show to go down to your level. So you can "relate". Fuck off. You are watching the wrong show.

    Kenneth is an angel!

    by David Cloverfield

Or god himself. There was a lot of Kenneth info in last night's 30ROCK if you pay attention.

  • April 6, 2012, 7:30 a.m. CST

Yes, trying too hard to be clever.

    by tonagan

At the expense of being funny. You can be both, but they weren't. Just an opinion. Don't cry.

  • But with pillows instead of paintballs. For a show that is only in its 3rd season, they are way too repetitive. I liked the fact that they were not afraid to try new things, but it seems like whenever they find something that works, they keep going back to that pool over and over and over and over.....until it's no longer funny.

Persons of interest was fucking awesome!

    by Norman Colson

Well what can I say other than I am a huge fan and cant wait for thursdays talkback because archer had their finale and i dont give a shit about community. Finch making a deal with HR was a bad move not because he made a deal with them, but because they are potentially are aware of him now and they'll put two and two together. Carter should have just popped elias then and there before he came in, I'm like damn you got a fucking military grade automatic assault rifle, no one would blame you since he kidnapped your son. I would have, keeping the bad guy alive is bad news especially when his right hand man is still alive. (I hate that scarred asshole) I loved the way Reese took two to the chest and keep shooting, he's a badass! next time he should wear full on ballistic body armor. Like jack bauer, FTW

If anything, last nights Community gave me this years Halloween costume...

    by openthepodbaydoorshal

PILLOWMAN!!! C'mon, pillows and duct tape? Simple and awesome. BTW, would love to know how viewers (my 20 year old daughter loves the show, worships Glover..., but know jack shit about Ken Burns) uninformed about Burns doc style enjoyed the show. And complaining that a show is TOO clever? Couldn't that charge be made against Arrested Development also? Oh yea, that show had shitty ratings also..

My one complaint about Community? How many episodes

    by openthepodbaydoorshal

    Community and Subway

    by maxwello

I assumed it was another of their meta-commentaries on the sellout product placement in shows like Chuck (Subway) and American Idol (Coke). I suppose it does raise awareness of Subway, but the show did portray them as the vilain in the episode, with the hero being the local entrepreneur that had the good idea, but was shut out by the corporate behemoth and university politics. I actually liked the commentary on the University being more interested in financial gain than the best interests of the students as a secondary theme of the episode.

  • Finch is putting himself in the open too much.
But from what Fusco discovered a couple of weeks ago, we may learn that much of what we "know" about Finch is cover story.

    'Delocated' is criminally underwatched.

    by Jarek

This last season just got darker and more bizarre. But hilarious... a real gem of a show.

i laughed more at this weeks New Girl then community

    by rakesh patel

i guess their uncertainty on the hiatus, the eps shown out of order and chevy vs harmon hit them kinda at the same time. i know they can do better, and really the subway help is great, but they need to be stepping over and above. when all eyes are on them. Yeah New Girl Funny. I said it. jew in the couch, indian everynight sweatyback up is the new down. It's funny stuff people. don't be a hater because you think its hip to try and be. Embrace the Zooey.

Best part about Community last night

    by Itchy

As always, Annie's tits. However, the rest of it was also. Rlliant. Loved Pierce switching sides, and Leonard's comomentary.

new girl is the funniest show on tv right now

    by yourSTEPDADDY

i just need it and the league to be on at the same time to accurately rate which of the two is the funniest but yea, NG has always been funny, its just the "man" in us who dont want to admit it. but i admitted it and will keep admitting

  • April 7, 2012, 4:55 a.m. CST
