The ABCs of Death gets a creepy/cute poster!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. You've been paying attention, hopefully... so you won't make me list all 26 directors of The ABCs of Death, one of the first movies to be actively produced by Drafthouse Films. The concept is that each letter of the alphabet will be represented in 3 minute-ish segments written and directed by a huge amount of the talented up and coming genre filmmakers from around the world.

Very curious to see how this one plays out. Can a 26-part anthology horror movie work as a feature? Fucked if I know, but I do know that when you have the guys behind A Serbian Film and Hobo With A Shotgun contributing that we're going to see some fucked up shit.

EW premiered the poster and I gotta say... I love it. It looks like the kind of video cover I'd see at the video store in my youth that'd make me pick it up and check the back of the box. That's a good thing for you kids in this new, wondrous digital era.

Here's the poster:

What do you folks think?

Talk about add. 3 minitues each wtf is the point.

    I fucking love anthology horror.

    by Kammich

And there are some really talented directors attached to this. The run-time of each segment is a little questionable, but I'm still excited.

  • ...for the big screen. Alas, Quint, you teased. And now I go back to waiting.

Of course you have to keep in mind...

The "T" section of the film was run as a global competition, so the two films linked above are home-made projects, not "pro" shoots.

    My first thought as well.

    I think it'll be a sensory overload.

    by Royston Lodge

I dig the idea of 3 minute long horror flicks, but 26 of 'em in a row might result in psychotic episodes in the audience.

    It IS an awful poster

  • April 2, 2012, 8:57 p.m. CST

    Ehhh, the poster's not HORRIBLE...

    by Skraggo

...but the tiny wings of Death kinda suck, and I don't know what that red, Silly String and confetti crap at the bottom is supposed to be. But other than that... I suppose it's a serviceable Photoshop job. Not as great as the Creepshow cover, but then... the art of the movie poster is gasping its final breaths these days. And yeah... How much meat can there be in 3 minute segments?

    The poster shoot

    by Ant

loafroaster : Actually the poster is an actual photo shoot not some 'fucking awful photoshop job' as you mentioned above. It's actually the designer's wife and son sitting on a chair in his basement. This was all practical apart from a few sparks. It's old school. I dig it and think Kaare Andrew's nailed the spirit of the feature.

I started collecting movie posters as a kid, and this is a great poster. I love the tiny wings. Fvck the basement critics. This movie is 26 short horror films, three minutes long from some amazing directors. Will it work? Time will tell. I appreciate the comment cynicism on this site. But it can't be all the bitter drool and bile of the wannabe filmmaker and the closet troll. Sometime you've just got to say, "Ain't it cool". Can't wait to see this.

    Poster is awesome...

    by Lord Elric

The concept..hmmm. Three minutes each, eh? I must admit, it sounds a bit gimmicky at first. But I'll say this...challenging, to say the very least. Am very interested in seeing how this works out.

I keep looking at the poster and I can't find this text. :(

Lord knows I love me some anthology horror films...

    by Jaster Mareel

But 26 3-minute episodes? So, the Samurai Jack of horror stories? I don't know man...horror is all about tension. And how much tension and payoff can you really get in 3 fucking minutes? Obviously there will be no character development whatsoever and these will probably consist mostly of jump scares. Fucking BRILLIANT poster however.

  • April 3, 2012, 9:03 a.m. CST

    Produced by Tim League?

    by Jaster Mareel

Isn't he like a Film Threat editor? I know he was centrally involved in the Uwe Boll boxing matches in which Massawerm got his ass thrown around like a bitch.

  • And I really like the stylized skull in that poster.

  • April 3, 2012, 9:48 a.m. CST

    Anyone else find it hilarious

    by watashi-wa

how many folk are quick to shout "crappy photoshopping" every time a poster comes out, only to have been - in this case - clamped by the fact it was a real shoot? :D

  • April 3, 2012, 11:29 a.m. CST

    I like the poster...

    by Red Ned Lynch

...I'll probably like the movie well enough, for the novelty it will be. Certainly interested in seeing it, at any rate.

    @ loafroaster and doctor_strangepork

    by MoistMuskyCamelToe

loafroaster: no, it isn't a "fucking awful Photoshop job" you cunt. It's someone working their guts out to make a living. Remember that before you flap you twat lips again just to make noise. If you can't resist the urge, go find a bag of dicks to choke on. doctor_strangepork: I can not believe someone made a THAC0 reference! You fucking win. Awesome. Haven't heard that in years.
