If Joe Johnston Isn't Coming Back For The CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel, Who Might Direct It??

Merrick here...

So it looks like the great Joe Johnston isn't returning for the impending follow-up to last Summer's rather awesome CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.  Which is too bad, because I thought it was arguably the best film of Johnston's career (yes, I'd say it's even far more consistent that THE ROCKETEER) - and clearly proved Joe knows how to knock a project out of the park in a big way.

This said, the list of directors apparently being considered for the sequel is certainly an interesting lot.  Per THIS piece over at Vulture, the final contenders seem to be...

George Nolfi, the writer-director of The Adjustment Bureau; F. Gary Gray, best known for directing The Italian Job; and, naturally …Community's Anthony and Joseph Russo?

Marvel has been making very intriguing choices regarding who they're selecting to helm these pictures, so where they'll head this time around is anyone's guess.  All of the folks on that list are commendable prospects, but I'd personally go with George Nolfi.  I think THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU is a hugely under appreciated film demonstrating great style, energy, and emotion...all qualities which would feel very much at home in a CAPTAIN AMERICA movie I should think.

Vulture says we may hear about a decision on this within a few weeks (mid-April).
