Herc’s Seen Vice Dean Laybourne’s Return To COMMUNITY!! Chat Here Also About Tonight’s AWAKE, PERSON, PUNK’D, RULES,
PAULY D, BANG, MENTALIST, TOUCH, IDOL And More!!
NBC says of “Digital Exploration of Interior Design”:
As the new Greendale Subway shop opens in the cafeteria, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) plot to bring about its early demise. Vice Dean Laybourne (guest star John Goodman) makes another attempt to get Troy to join the Air Conditioning Repair Annex, while Abed and Troy find themselves at odds over their competing pillow and blanket forts.
More in the text invisible.
* Jeff learns something about Greendale from Annie.
* Laybourne, it turns out, knows a lot about “Inspector Spacetime.”
* “Community” is now in an excellent position to keep pimping Subway in a DVR-proof way, which should cement its renewal for a fourth season.
* Pierce reveals that Britta is a weapon designed for sex.
* Mirror Abed does not return this week, though Dean Laybourne now sports a sinister goatee.
* This episode contains precisely the right amount of Chang.
Returning tonight:
Punk’d (10pm MTV)
Rules of Engagement (8:30pm CBS)
Premiering tonight:
My Mom Is Obsessed (10pm Health) is a reality show offering an “intimate, heart-warming and sometimes shocking look into the lives of moms and daughters who are anything but ordinary.”
The Pauly D Project (10:30pm MTV) follows the “Jersey Shore” personality into his own series.
* While “Awake” fell hard last week, I’m obliged to point out that “Prime Suspect” once hit a 0.9 and “The Firm” hit a 0.8 before it moved to Saturday (where it hit a 0.4).
* "American Idol" hit a 4.2 last Thursday. That's got to be its lowest score in many years.

couldn't hack it. but curious as to the upswing in figures. anyone?
-
Near guarantee no one had anything better to watch and others were probably perplexed as to why Jack Bauer wasn't running around trying to foil a terrorist plot and just had to make sure it wasn't some covert return of their beloved 24.
-
Maybe the uptick consists of the people who had already watched the first episode back when it first aired... My general dislike of children kept me from tuning in. That, and I'm sort of flush with the amount of television I'm watching. And, I guess, I've gotten burned enough by canceled shows that I'm gun shy.
-
Didn't Dan Harmon say something about how Community had to top a 2.0 rating in order to be considered for renewal? Things ain't lookin' too good.

episode summary says Justin Bieber pranks celebrity friends you can just fuck right off with that shit.
-
Sorry Community Big Bang repeat 3.2 College basketball 2.1 Commuinity 1.7 Maybe Jared can save it. It is the best thing on NBC.
-
How awful to bring that back. Taylor Swift has that same surprised reaction she has when she wins awards. Justin Bieber is a joke in himself. It's time for Miley Cyrus to show us the goods. The only thing PUNK'D was good for was showing the world the REAL Justin Timberlake: a big crybaby pussy.
-
That 1.7 was also the top rated show on NBC last Thursday. Was it a coincidence that The Big Bang Theory shot up to record ratings during the time that NBC benched Community? It is not, and never has been a Community problem. It is an NBC is dying and keeps Community in an impossible time slot problem.
-
I go back and forth of who's hotter: Britta or Annie ... both are delicious ... Hmmm... Big Bang Theory is a stupid show about what people think true geeks are like but ARE NOTHING LIKE THAT.

Community is still doing better than 30 Rock did in the same time slot
by Rob0729
With The Office likely getting canceled and neither 30 Rock nor Parks and Recreations putting up much better numbers in the 8:30 slot, I think Community is a near lock to get renewed. As I stated, Community is holding up better than 30 Rock did vs. The Big Bang Theory. It is cheaper to produce than 30 Rock. It is about a season away for the right number of episodes ideal for syndication packages. Just for syndication alone, they will get another season.
-
One of the more overrated shows on MTV and that is saying a lot. I learned to absolutely hate Ashton Kutcher from that show. Already hate that effeminate Justin Beiber. It is Candid Camera for "celebrities". Once they run out of Beiber's A List friends (Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, etc.), they will be forced to to Punk Z List celebrities and reality stars. Maybe they will Punk The Situation by telling him his 15 minutes have been extended by another 15 minutes only for him to realize that his 15 minutes were over 5 minutes ago.
-
Somehow I have the feeling this come up by seasons end.
-
Isn't 100 eps the magic number a show has to hit? 'Cause if so, if they hit a 25 ep season this year, then come back with a 26 ep season next year, that's exactly where they're at. Perfect. Sell that shit to Comedy Central, get it the viewers and attention and ad revenue it deserves. Hell, pull a Futurama and take season 5 over to CC. And it WAS the highest rated show on NBC's comedy block that night! HELL yeah!
-
do you remember comicon last year they told us that person of interest was disappointing and that alcatraz was so cool. Alcatraz turned out to be a vile piece of shit and poi a modern paranoid version of batman. we can see jonathan nolan figerprint all over the serie. he is introducing the players, ther heroes and the villains like their own caiser soze :elias. they are slowly building the foundation of this world. season 2 will be excellent.
-
...but I believe it's a different celeb hosting every week, and that little ladyboy Beiber only hosts the first week. Though he might produce that shit, or something. Or I could be wrong, but then, who here really gives a fuck?

-
Grey that shit, yo.
-
it belongs on cable...network TV is only for comedies and reality shows...all the best dramas are on cable
-
I meant local television stations, not national cable network deals. The national cable network deals are more recent trends and they usually make these deals about a season earlier than they sell the syndication rights to local radio stations and overseas. That means they still have to do at least another 13 episodes or so next season to get the proper package for the syndication deals to local networks and overseas. That is where the real money. The comedy central deal is nice, but the real money is in local stations and overseas.
-
I just looked. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has 83 episodes, all aired before it went to syndication. Community will have about 71 by the end of the season. Community probably needs at least a half episode pick up to get the proper syndication number to sell to the locals.
-
dunno if its considered the same as like seinfeld on fox, but serenity and daybreak had their one season seasons play on tv also, arrested development did 3 seasons
-
i like the show a lot, but i do not actually laugh anymore at it (like i do with new girl, south park, happy endings, league, colbert, american dad, bobs burgers, 30 rock, archer, and unsupervised) hell... the cleveland show has been making me laugh more recently... come on Community!!! ps: i still like the show, still think its "cute", its just not making me happy vocal sounds
-

-
ahh ok, i wondered if that's what you meant. i honestly think community gets renewed by default since nbc really has no other alternative, and at the very least they can justify it via dvd sales and other type of ways for profit.

-
I do have to respect that he hit it big without selling his soul to Disney.
-
Which season one was as well, everyone just assumed Ned was the central character.
-
Assuming this series doesn't have a fan base outside of D&D types is profoundly ignorant and condescending. The whole point (or one of them, anyway) is that this is fantasy for the rest of us. Martin isn't a bestseller, and HBO didn't pick it up, because it's inaccessibly nerdy.
-
Not to Disney, but he had to sell it to Usher.
-
Here's the thing, he's bashing season 2 for killing off Bean's character, but it doesn't REALLY sound like he though much of the show's first season, either. And yet, it was hugely popular. And it had the same percieved problem in season one -- it dropped you right into this vast, massively populated, fully-formed world and there was a lot to catch up on and understand. But if you just went with it, you found yourself totally caught up in the events and characters. My wife, who is the farthest thing from the "D&D crowd" you can possibly imagine, ended up falling in love with the show. And now she's all giddy about the season premiere on Sunday. Plus, like others have already said, it was NEVER Bean's show. It was always an ensemble piece. The Times writer is a fucking douche and should have let someone without pre-concieved prejudices write the fucking article.

@yourstepdaddy Community is most definitely funnier than New Girl, Unsupervised, Archer, current 30 Rock, Happy Endings, The League, current South Park, American Dad, Bob's Burgers, and the fucking cleveland show
by Kevin Spellman
The only place you're on point is with The Rev. Sir Dr. Stephen T. Mos Def Colbert, D.F.A. The rest of the shows you listed, while not necessarily BAD shows (except for The Cleveland Show) aren't anywhere near the same league as Community. Community may not be filled with one-liners or zingers or throwaway absurdist comedy moments every 30 seconds, but that's because it actually takes the time to make sure the audience is invested in the characters and cares about them.
-
to me, there is 2 types of comedies... one that has great writing and one that actually make you laugh out loud its been a while since i laughed or chuckled at community. smile? all the time. laugh, very few those shows that I listed do make me laugh out loud (believe me, i felt kinda bad giving 30 rock more props for lolable moments than community) basically, i am dead quiet when watching community. i dont like that. but im also wondering if i ever even laughed out loud at it
-
I dig: New Girl Happy Endings. I still hate Big Gang Bang Theory- Still not funny. It's geek blackface written by people who love stereotypes and who don't have geek interests- those fuckers are NERDS all the way. Annoying, stupid, pathetic little fuckers that need beaten.
-
Anyone get eye-raped watching it?

I don't know about that Kevinps. Archer is pretty damn funny
by angry kitty
Just recently started watching episodes on demand and laughed so much at some parts I thought I was having a coronary. Don't get me wrong, I love the sophisticated, quirky humor of Community too. But don't underestimate the comedy power power that is Archer.
-
but Big Bang Theory does not exist in this dojo.
-
i havent read or watched any of season 2, but he sounds worse than the trolls on this site and theres no way it could get that bad with how good season 1 is, the awesome set-up for season 2, and alan fuckin taylor directing FOUR episodes. also people need to stop getting offended that a show is stereotyping you instead of others. bbt is a shitty show, but its not the sterotypes that make it bad, the writing is just bad, and it doesn't make me laugh. community on the other hand is great and can't wait for john goodmans return. the last ep with him was one of the best of the season. id say south park and louie only supercede it. and fuck archer btw. maybe its not my type of humor, but i can't stand it.

and the sooner Community gets canceled the sooner Alison Brie gets naked in features. Then again that hasn't happened with Summer Glau yet.
-
The Big Bang Theory is so fucking horrible. I don't get how anyone watches it... Only people who miss "the good old days" would watch that garbage. Rating mean bull shit. Most people watch shows on DVR or Hulu etc. Nielson only and obviously gets white trash people who have nothing better to do and old people.
-
I only know that guy from the Patriot. Weird hearing his American accent.
-
It's pretty much what I do but I watch very little TV compared to most.

Have you guys heard Chevy's voicemail to Dan Harmon?
by buffywrestling
There is a little set up in the reddit post with a very small spoiler about the final ep this season - talks about what the ep focuses on but I have read the same in other interviews with the crew/cast - and the wrap party for season three. Dan Harmon played Chevy's voicemail to the gang at HarmonTown (Which I think is an improv thing he runs??) It's seriously fucked up. Like "Suck my cock", okay? http://www.reddit.com/r/community/comments/q7zdi/going_to_harmontown_tonight/c3vswzi Oh yeah, good show tonight. I love you, Subway! *sexy moaning* Good set up for next week but I must temper myself. The campus wide pillow-fight can't be that good, right?
-
although that erection bit almost did...
-
sure Chevy is a dick, but you dont do stuff like that in front of family (unless its a roast)
-
March 29, 2012, 11:57 p.m. CST
Judging by the cast reaction whenever asked what it's like to work with Chevy, it seems like Chevy is a major dick....
by Bobo_Vision
....so I doubt Dan Harmon's transgression even comes close to what it's like to work with Chevy on a daily basis. Watch the bloopers from Season 1 and 2, and even there you get a glimpse of it. Chevy at one point calls Donald Glover an asshole for no apparent reason other than what seems like Chevy forgot his line, and then Donald just sort of laughs it off and says, "Hey Donald, fuck you for acting and doing your job," kind of mocking Chevy's attitude towards him. <p> I don't think Harmon should be faulted for this. I think Chevy's character on the show is very true to life.
-
It's like a tasty cancer, swallowing show content on that network.
-
I mean that it conquers, not that it's the equivalent of a horrible World War in impact.
-
but I dont think Chevy called Donald an asshole in front of his family... if this happened on set, fine... but at a "celebration"? its wrong ps: and chevy assholiness is well documented throughout his career (although i only found out when community started since im not a old guy), so the writers/creators/casting directors knew what they were signing up for

**SPOILER** POI introduced Penquin or Poison Ivy, and BBT had a Gorn!
by MGTHEDJ
Don't read until you watch. I don't know which she is meant to be. White collar criminal is Penguin, but chemicals mean Ivy. Chief Brody, I never watch the previews of any show. The promo depts. now usually pull footage from the last or next to last scene, and use the footage at the start of the promo. That's some lame thinking, and makes you wonder "why even watch." BBT was pretty good, some nice jokes about buying collectible toys. Granted they were recycled from 40 yr old virgin, but they still made me laugh. And they get bonus points for having a Gorn. About that NYT review for GoT, ignore it. One, the reviewer just doesn't get the show. And two, if it's not campy, or set in a fantasy world, the NYT usually hates it. -----later-----m
-
not to mention a FANTASTIC lead actor. His wife is hot as fuck though. Don't remember her being so extremely bangable in the 4400 (speaking of squandered premises).
-
Archer can make me almost die laughing. But the humour is very low-brow. I think I became a confirmed fan in the pilot episode, when the thought of his mother shot to death in the street gave him an erection. Community can be a good mixture of high and low-brow humour, as well as hitting a myriad of genres. It can make me feel better for watching it. The Dinner With Abed episode, or the multiple timeline episode, were not fall down funny, but I've watched them multiple times. Big Bang theory is only interesting if you want to see some stupid examples of what stupid people think smart people are like.
-
I can't make it all out but here's the bones of it... I hope you're taking your medicine, you fat fuck. You didn't give us a script to begin with, so nobody knew what the fuck was going on week after week. Second of all, you god damned bad writing shit stinko fuck abomination and you're writing is getting worse and worse so suck my cock. I don't get talked to like that by anybody. Certainly not in front of my wife and daughter you god damned asshole alchoholic fat shit. You're gonna live to be about 57 if you're lucky the way you eat. I got nothing to say to you except you can suck my cock. Is that clear? And I hope you can play that for everyone around you who agrees with you, their attitude sucks. That you should say Fuck You in front of all those people, to me and family. You think that's the right way to behave?
-
Looking at IMDB, it doesn't look like he has any other projects in the works... At all. I recently took a look at Malcolm McDowell's IMDB who is the same age, and that dude has more projects going on than any actor I've seen. 13 freaking projects!

Chevy Chase may be a 1st class asshole but he's right about Harmon's writing going to shit...
by thecomedian
Community is going off tangentially this season into straight up misfired garbage. I've stopped caring about Troy and Abed as both characters have ironically enough become 1 dimensional childish charicatures of themselves (just like Sheldon and all the characters on BBT). I'm tired of Abed and I almost found myself wishing French Stewart had had his legs broken. Overall, everything this season (other than the brilliant episode with the alternate timelines) has seemed like a rushed half-assed version of everything I liked about this show. It's like Community is going the way of some Channel 101 show that's been #1 for a while but about to get voted out because the writers are out of ideas and have nowhere else to go with it.

That Chevy Stuff Is Crazy, Can't Believe It's Not Bigger News
by Crow3711
It's still buried deep in reedit or wherever. I want to hear some fallout. It's hard to imagine him coming back for a potential season 4 at this point. I mean we already knew tensions were high on set, everyone fucking hates him, he's a pain in the ass, and he doesn't like and/or watch the fucking show. He clearly hates Harmon. but they still got work done. How do you come back to a set where the head writer and show runner got an entire room of your coworkers to tell you to fuck off? Pretty unreal. Maybe they'll 2 1/2 men it and kill him off screen over the summer, but i bet the show is finished anyway, unfortunately. Still, the biggest shocker is that this isn't all over the news today. It's shocking AND kind of hilarious. I guess if community was pulling a 4.7 rating with 15 million viewers it would be a massive fucking deal. So weird.
-
But Harmon was completely out of line for doing that stunt in front of Chase's family.
-
at fringe and supernatural... why do i laugh more at a sci-fi show and a supernatural show more then community? the more i think about community, the more i think i dislike it (comedy wise)

Have to admit, last night's Community was really weak and off-key
by Bobo_Vision
I hate how they keep going back to the wells of popular shows from previous seasons, like paintball episodes, and now blanket forts. It's one thing to reference pop culture, but to keep referencing themselves, it's like a snake eating its own head until it is slowly reduced to nothing.
-
No? And it was done before the Gag Reel? And doesn't Chevy give Harmon permission to play said voicemail? Have we all turned into sensitive pussies? Sounds like a case of can dish it out but can't fucking take to me.
-
since the hiatus. This is NBC tampering. I don't think it's necessarily bad tampering, mind you, if they can hold onto that 1.7. But while tweeting @danharmon today, he says he thinks that it will be put in the proper order for the DVD. I think it will flow a lot better that way. Because I'm sort of watching this show like I care for the characters and sometimes, the way the order is now, they seem like they are contradicting themselves too much.
-
favorite comedy, even surpassing CougarTown as second fav ensemble. Max dressed as Josh Brolin from Goonies *killed* me.
-
how can you guys be criticizing last night's Community? It's giving the character's depth (i.e. Troy and Abed and the struggle to grow up, looking at the Shirley wedding and this episode together, it's really about those two struggling to grow up) and how Dean Layborne is manipulating them for his own ends. The pillow fort/blanket fort fight is symbolic of Troy and Abed's fight against growing up. And also props to Subway for allowing themselves to be lampooned while at the same time helping sponsor the show.
-
Mmm... That was a really good sandwich.
-
Now please do the same for Community. Much obliged.
