Quint's headed to ActionFest next month! Check out the line-up and trailer here!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’ve been asked to join up with such mad men (and lady) as Fantasia’s Mitch Davis, Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, The Weinstein Company’s Dan Guando, Orbit DVD owner Marc McCloud and Sadie of Mornings with Carson and Sadie radio fame on the ActionFest Jury. I don’t know who’s on the Judge and Executioner panels, but we’ve got Jury well covered.
I’ve never been to Action Fest before, but our old cohort Drew McWeeny seemed to have a blast when he went, so it was an easy call. Plus a Norris (Aaron, brother of Chuck and, more importantly, director of Sidekicks) is involved! And Colin Geddes, lord of TIFF's Midnight Madness, is head programmer!
Check out the awesome trailer by Kagan and Sean McLeod here (yes, film festivals can have trailers, too):
The fest is happening April 12th-15th and I’ll be on the ground in Asheville, NC watching noses get bloodied, ears get cauliflowered and bones get impounded. I’ll also be on God’s quest to test North Carolina BBQ against Texas BBQ.
Flicks playing the fest include the world premiere of Danny Trejo’s newest flick, BAD ASS, a rare screening of the undistributed stateside genre flick Solomon Kane, Wu Xia and The Lost Bladesman starring Donnie Yen, The Aggression Scale (a solid and fun crime flick I saw recently at SXSW), post-apocalyptic tale The Day starring Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Dominic Monaghan and Shannyn Sossamon, hockey comedy Goon starring Seann William Scott, Bobcat Goldthwait’s dark, dark comedy God Bless America and kickass Swedish thriller Headhunters.
They’ll also be giving out awards to Mickey Gilbert (stunt man on Ben Hur and The Wild Bunch), JJ Perry (choreographer of Warrior and Tarantino's upcoming Django Unchained) and Gina Carano (best female action star for Haywire).
Stay tuned for tales of adventure and BBQ and make sure to seek out the ActionFest Website for more info. Hopefully I’ll see some of you fine folks in North Carolina!

I've had a thing for her since first seeing A Knight's Tale. I even sat through Forty Days and Forty Nights for her.
-
Just thinking about it makes me angry all over again.
-
Sounds cool, Quint.
-
If you dig Sossamon, then you'll like The Day more than most. She's... not shy... in that one.

I liked Solomon Kane. Had to buy a bootleg to see it, but I liked it.

Better than the new Conan, but what isnt?
-
And he still programmed The Day? Does he not remember the reaction it got at TIFF (mostly crickets, with quite a few walkouts)? I find it hard to believe he couldn't find something, anything, better.
-
I'll be sure to watch it in the privacy of my home, then, so as not to get arrested.

Pulled pork sandwiches are good and all, but that vinegary sauce ruins it. Give me good, bark-covered Texas brisket any day. Actually, if you're driving out there, be sure to stop in Memphis and get some ribs at Rendezvous or Blues City Cafe. Dang.
-
Agreed. Going from KY to NC, it took probably a decade to get used to the vinegar based sauce. I think I'm infected b/c now I love it. Quint be brave and check it out, no hard feelings if you don't love it.

What is BBQ? Answer me?
-

BBQ is a lot of things to a lot of people and nobody agrees. It's so regional and people can be quite fanatical about it. Not unlike movies.
-
oh well... guess us socialists are all the same huh...
-
You definitely need to go to 12 Bones for barbecue. They have the best pulled pork in the city.

Actually, I shouldn't have put that in quotes...that's just the title of the article and not his words

Asheville has a thriving craft beer movement. Hopefully, you can try some of the local beers.
