The Kidd here...
The CARRIE remake is happening, and, unless there's a serious breakdown in contract negotiations, it looks like it's going to be Chloë Moretz in the title role.
Deadline reports that MGM has made the offer to Moretz after director Kim Peirce chose her from the likes of Haley Bennett (Terrence Malick's upcoming LAWLESS), Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote, Lily Collins and Shailene Woodley (who supposedly passed on the role).
The young actress took to her Twitter immediately to confirm the news:
Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!
Moretz would reprise the role made famous by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's novel (she received an Oscar nomination for her work), and, while i'm not particularly in favor of a CARRIE remake to begin with, it's tough to argue against the choice of Moretz.
(500) DAYS OF SUMMER, KICK-ASS, LET ME IN, HUGO... the list goes on and on with her strong work, and, for all we might expect from her track record, her role in DARK SHADOWS will be no different.
At 15, she might be a bit on the young side to pull off high school senior, but we've already seen her do the shy outsider with a vengeful side in LET ME IN, so perhaps this could work. I'd be much more concerned about this remake doing the original film and book justice if it had been placed in less capable hands.
