I've been raving about it since Fantastic Fest - I even put it on my Top 10 for 2011! - and it will be playing on VOD later this summer, but you good Houston people get to see it for free next Monday, April 2, at the Alamo Drafthouse West Oaks!
JUAN OF THE DEAD is more than just a title riff - like SHAUN OF THE DEAD, it uses the zombie apocalypse to say something more. SHAUN talked about relationships, and JUAN talks about life in Cuba. Honestly, this movie is subversive enough that I'm surprised it got out, but there's a great message hidden in all the gore. Plus, it's pretty damn funny and has some amazing zombie kills in it.
Afterwards we'll be talking to Alejandro Brugues, the director, on Skype, and I'll be co-hosting this with Meredith Borders of Badass Digest. I've seen this twice and I'm pretty hyped to see it again, actually. i think those coming will be pleasantly surprised by the scale and the heart that this movie has.
