Just how cool can Steven Soderbergh's OCEAN'S 11 be'
Hey folks, Harry here and man oh man oh man... OCEAN'S 11 is quickly becoming just a hands down and flat against the table cool as crystal shits in the artic. I have recently read the script, which is... by the way... awesomely fun.
The script reads like the GUNS OF NAVARONE of the heist flick. Now, we're all well aware of the fact that Soderbergh has attached George Clooney as Danny Ocean... the unshakable constant always on the beat... can't lose if he tries leader of the Rat Pack.
We also know that Brad Pitt is on board to play Rusty Ryan, the Dean Martin-esque... Rich boy that's always up for a high risks game of chance. He's the sort of guy that wears $500 shoes and has effortless cool hair. He's just plain cool.
We also know that Julia Roberts is attached (or is about to) to play Tess Ocean, Danny's ex-wife and the only crack in his perfect armor. She's the glimmer in his eye and she's another's doll for the time being and it's the only loss he's ever had. And he's looking at turning the long odds and taking her back.
Now that casting is pretty cool, but this is OCEAN'S 11. The casting call must continue with that same sort of "Holy Shit, How'd they get that cast?!?!?" sort of rhythm. And from the inside... this is how it's looking thus far...
Saul Bloom. (oops, initially got this character confused with the Don Rickles character... it's been corrected.) He's a career conman with an identity fetishist. He's a horse track groupie. And right now, it looks like they are negotiating with Bill Murray.
Basher Tarr. This fella's cheese has melted from his cracker. He's an explosives fetishist. His ideal night would be to let loose a nuke on a town like Vegas. Always looking for a bigger fireball, a larger explosion. Devastation and destruction are the rise in his jeans. He's a bit brit, but they are currently talking to Johnny Depp to play him.
Linus Zerga. He's the youngster of the 11, he's a smooth pick pocket and can pull off some amazing slieght of hand. He's not too sure about a game this big, he's a bit nervous about the whole deal. And it's looking like Mark Wahlberg in his third Clooney pic.
Terry Benedict. He's not one of the 11, but he is the one that has Danny's ex. He's a casino owner and is a bit on the low moral road. He's older. And it looks like Michael Douglas is under the magnifying glass for the part.
Virgil and Turk Malloy. The getaway guys... the drivers. Fast talking, never shut up, annoying sobs that also happen to be a bit Mormon. They are talking with Luke and Owen Wilson for the parts.
Add to that Don Cheadle as Frank Cotton. Don Rickles as Reuben Tishkoff He's this old time Vegas conman that looks at the Disneyland Vegas and turns in disgust. He's pissed. The risks are gone. The alcoholics and the broken dreams are gone. He liked the Vegas where the whores were front and center and there were real lounge acts, not gay extravaganzas. Jet Li as Yen. And you know what? You have one helluva cast that... well... is just fucking cool. So far these are the names I'm told they are talking to. So just hang back and keep your fingers crossed. It sounds friggin awesome.
