Make it so, The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
My history with Star Trek is probably a pretty common one with guys (and gals) my age. I watched The Next Generation’s premiere and even though I had seen many Original Series episodes in reruns prior to TNG I was essentially discovering both shows at about the same time.
As a result I don’t really have a favorite. To me they’re kind of all the same. I prefer the color-popping look of TOS, but just love the more cerebral approach to the brains over brawn Picard.
Nerds will fight over the best captain as long as there are nerds to fight over the issue, but what we should all agree on is today’s picture is really neat. I’m not sure if Patrick Stewart is taking a nap or laughing. I think he’s laughing. What do you think?

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic will make you feel lucky.

Picard IS the quintessential starship Captain.

This man took on the Borg where Kirk was... banging alien chicks. Hell if Spock werent around I'd be willing to bet Kirk wouldnt have lasted nearly as long or come out so far ahead. Then again Im way overthinking what was at times a pretty campy series, at least the original series was at times.

That's no way to talk about Wesley Crusher. Or is it?

They're posing for the regulation Starfleet catalogue, yes?

Patrick and Brent took advantage of the power vacuum on NG and ruined the movies. This series is deader than Mrs. O'Leary's cow. A shame. It had such potential. I'd love to see a new Trek series set on a Galaxy class NG ship. With no counselor. No kids. No fucking white androids. Bryan Cranston as Captain.
-
Do you honestly think Bob Orci really cares about what you think? If so, look up the word "delusional". If Patrick Stewart is indeed giggling then I would not be surprised; I hear he's prone to it and watched him silently corpsing in the background at Ian McLellen and Ronald Pickup faffing onstage during Waiting for Godot. Absolutely priceless. Oh, and there's room for all 3 Treks in my life.
-
I wish more series would mete out unceremonious death to main cast players. Maybe I'd watch more TV.

Marina Sirtis is really hot. She didn't appeal to me as a younger man
by Autodidact
But now that I'm full grown and can appreciate a real woman, Troi is by far the sexiest character in all of Trek (sexier than Jolene Blalock and Jeri Ryan who are just beanpoles with breast enhancements).

I was more a peripheral ST fan, mostly watched the movies, until the series came onto Netflix. I was just a liiiittle too young for TNG when it debuted. Upon watching it now, it is really good, and very adult. So I am watching it pretty much in order, though I have cheated and watched some of the more renowned episodes (Borg eps) out of order. Great great show. All the women on the ship are gorgeous. Very funny show at times also. I can appreciate now that I am all growed up. Also watching TOS sporadically. I tried to start up DSN up that first episode, the acting had me choking myself out. Not that the acting is phenomenal on any of the other shows, but blecch.

=TNG and Deep Space Nine are the finest things Star Trek ever produced.=
by KilliK
FACT.
-
Anybody who can place that without Googling it gets a cookie (hint: it's from the Theatre and has nothing to do with Trek, just inspired by the phrase "really neat" in the description) That said, I think Picard is dead. This is when he was replaced by a sentient android in 1966. Tasha's in it, so it's season one. I LOVE the marks on the floor, never tuned that in before. I adore Kirk but he broke the Prime Directive so many damn times, he was clearly a great character but a god-awful captain. Still, if I had to BE either one, Kirk wins, no contest. And just for fun, fuck you.

The 1st and 2nd season TNG uniforms were notorius for hurting the backs of the actors wearing them. It looks to me like Patrick Stewart is trying to take some of the pressure off by crouching.

I did a month long marathon of all seven seasons of DS9 in january...
by ChickenStu
It was pretty damn sensational. The show never once jumped the shark - it was beautiful. I've been watching Voyager ever since on a more casual basis (I'm in Season 5) it's OK - but does not approach DS9's majesty. In fact I'd say Voyager is a bit of a let-down after DS9. I was so spoiled with that show. Fucking magnificent.

But the Betazoid chick, the one who got all raped up and killed in Death Wish 3, was porkable. I never got into this Trek. Few of the characters appealed to me. And that Q guy, I hated that shit. He was an excuse to put them in Robin Hood outfits and a basic Macguffin. Highly uninspired. At least the God like entities in OST were generally frightening. I liked the Enterpise show much better. That's right geeks, it was a better show, with hotter chicks. If they hadn't killed it in the very same way that they killed the original series, we'd still be getting more eps of that great, cool retro Trek.

She's gotta be one of my favorite Trek girls - the sheer fact that she banged a robot is fucking awesome in my book. Always liked her way more than Troi or Crusher (actually kinda hated Crusher but that's likely her role and not her specifically - that whole "Your special Wesley...like Mozart" just made me want to punch a birthday cake.

... look at the bridges for ALL the other ships on all the other shows, and this one and the bridge for Voyager are designed like shit. Think about it. The Captain should be able to see/monitor ALL the other stations with ease, the decimate information and make the best choices. 1701 & 1701-A's captain's chairs were elevated for this reason, as were NX-01's and even the Defiant's command chair was set back to see all that was going on. But 1701-D and Voyager's captain's chairs were SUNK into the bridge, not elevated, making it impossible for the captain to see anything behind them AND neither of those chairs could swivel. They fixed this with the design of the 1701-E's bridge, and set the captain's chair back in its elevated place, were an easy swivel finds them able to see the crew members behind them.
-
...for my money the most ass-kicking captain of all was Janeway. She saw herself as the mother of her crew and would do literally anything to protect or avenge them. I mean, come on, bitch took out the fucking Borg Queen and a good chunk of the Borg Collective in the series finale! Of course as a show, Voyager was mostly suck, but that doesn't change the fact that Janeway would throw down unholy chaos when crossed.

I like "Encounter at Farpoint" but that's almost entirely due to "All Good Things..."
by Al
That's how goddamn good "All Good Things..." is, it makes "Encounter at Farpoint" even better. Seriously, basically Brannon Braga and Ron Moore punched out "All Good Things..." in a weekend and worked on "Generations" for over a year, and look how that turned out. I think even on the commentary track for Generations Braga flat-out says that "All Good Things..." was better and Moore agrees with him.

loved it. It sounds fruity, but man i learnt a lot from that show.

Love it. I've rarely seen such a candid shot from bridge of TNG. I mean come on! Patrick Stewart actually looks relaxed? When has that ever happened?

I believe shatner had the best episode and movie of the series. That said I think both shows were great with some really silly episodes.

otherwise Roberto won't be able to hear you while he's doing lines off some Hollywood Starlet and listening to some classical music, and you, you're getting ready to be reamed by one of your goats! And he's going in 'dry'!

No doubt about it. It also had some truly awful episodes (mostly in the third ("terd") season) but for all it's problems it never gave up and the people always kept trying. There was never an episode in the later series remotely as good as "City on the Edge of Forever." Unfortunately, Roddenberry, like Lucas of that other series, Star something, created the beast but was ultimately the heel who ground it into the earth. And the ghost of the corpse was ST: The Next Generation. I hated it. I tried and tried again to find something worth watching on it but never did. Recall the Ferrangi? Those Organ-Grinder monkeys? OMFG. Wesley saves the ship? What a hoot. The pathetic holo-deck? The ripoffs of episodes on the original ST? Okay, they eventually gave up on that routine. But nothing helped. And the lame guest appearances (I sure hope they paid Hawking a bundle)? Eventually it settled into a safe, PC rut where it belonged. Kirk? Bad as he was most of the time, at least he was never as dull a Picard -- on a good day.
-
...didn't start out so well, but by the last few seasons, it was really great, and it was a new thing for a Star Trek series to have an ongoing plot that spanned across episodes. The war with the Dominion was an awesome thing to behold. Dang, now I want to fire up Netflix.
-
I never did like TNG. I liked Troi, but she was hot so what's not to like? I kinda liked DS9, but all the other shows didn't amount to much to me. Except for the animated series, which was great.
-
HBO. A 13 episode season with the same production values as Game of Thrones. Now we just need an older, reliable actor for the captain...I'm going out on a limb with Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
-
Names from Sex Trek: The Next Orgasm
-
Bangin hot aliens chics, gettin his shirt ripped off in fights, flying drop kicks, burns supercomputers out with his illogicalness, If kirk met janeway he would bang her and she wouldnt have been able to resist the Kirkness.
-
You have a fairly liberal definition of "pretty neat", Quint. cartmanez: Oh, how I wish THAT fake trailer you posted was how the real movie went. I hated Generations, and every TNG movie as a matter of fact. I adored the series, but was always bewildered that they couldn't make a good movie. As far as I'm concerned "All Good Things" is the true ending to the series and the movies are just unneeded epilogues made of treacle.

I think the hypothetical question of who we'd like to see as the captain in a new Trek series is a good one. Forget about how unlikely it'd be, financial considerations, current obligations, etc. Who would you pick?

Was excited to finally watch it in all it's glory after hearing all the hype over the years. It stinks. Nowhere near as good as DS9. Don't know what people were smoking to prefer it over Trek. The acting (apart from the lizard looking dude and one or two others) is atrocious. Won't be watching the rest of it. If it's not good after 40 episodes, fuck it. Feel raped enough already.
