The best show on Friday is back - Supernatural! Hooray! Bravo! Huzzah!

    by I_Love_LanaLang

If there's only 1 show that you can watch on Friday, make sure it's Supernatural. All other shows pale in comparison to this juggernaut. Granted, if they return to the Leviathans storyline, I may have to revise my comments. But even then, Supernatural has enough panache to keep things interesting.

    by v3d

  • Often used to describe depression in psychological disorders, dysphoria is general state of sadness that includes restlessness, lack of energy, anxiety, and vague irritation. It is the opposite of euphoria, and is different from typical sadness because it often includes a kind of jumpiness and some anger. You have probably experienced it when coming down from a stimulant like chocolate, coffee, or something stronger. Or you may have felt it in response to a distressing situation, extreme boredom, or depression.

    2. ENTHRALLMENT

    by Michael Lunney

Psychology professor W. Gerrod Parrott has broken down human emotions into subcategories, which themselves have their own subcategories. Most of the emotions he identifies, like joy and anger, are pretty recognizable. But one subset of joy, "enthrallment," you may not have heard of before. Unlike the perkier subcategories of joy like cheerfulness, zest, and relief, enthrallment is a state of intense rapture. It is not the same as love or lust. You might experience it when you see an incredible spectacle — a concert, a movie, a rocket taking off — that captures all your attention and elevates your mood to tremendous heights.

    3. NORMOPATHY

    by Michael Lunney

Psychiatric theorist Christopher Bollas invented the idea of normopathy to describe people who are so focused on blending in and conforming to social norms that it becomes a kind of mania. A person who is normotic is often unhealthily fixated on having no personality at all, and only doing exactly what is expected by society. Extreme normopathy is punctuated by breaks from the norm, where normotic person cracks under the pressure of conforming and becomes violent or does something very dangerous. Many people experience mild normopathy at different times in their lives, especially when trying to fit into a new social situation, or when trying to hide behaviors they believe other people would condemn.

    4. ABJECTION

    by Michael Lunney

\ There are a few ways to define abjection, but French philosopher Julia Kristeva (literally) wrote the book on what it means to experience abjection. She suggests that every human goes through a period of abjection as tiny children when we first realize that our bodies are separate from our parents' bodies — this sense of separation causes a feeling of extreme horror we carry with us throughout our lives. That feeling of abjection gets re-activated when we experience events that, however briefly, cause us to question the boundaries of our sense of self. Often, abjection is what you are feeling when you witness or experience something so horrific that it causes you to throw up. A classic example is seeing a corpse, but abjection can also be caused by seeing shit or open wounds. These visions all remind us, at some level, that our selfhood is contained in what Star Trek aliens would call "ugly bags of mostly water." The only thing separating you from being a dead body is . . . almost nothing. When you feel the full weight of that sentence, or are confronted by its reality in the form of a corpse, your nausea is abjection.

    5. SUBLIMATION

    by Michael Lunney

If you've ever taken a class where you learned about Sigmund Freud's theories about sex, you probably have heard of sublimation. Freud believed that human emotions were sort of like a steam engine, and sexual desire was the steam. If you blocked the steam from coming out of one valve, pressure would build up and force it out of another. Sublimation is the process of redirecting your steamy desires from having naughty sex, to doing something socially productive like writing an article about psychology or fixing the lawnmower or developing a software program. If you've ever gotten your frustrations out by building something, or gotten a weirdly intense pleasure from creating an art project, you're sublimating. Other psychiatrists have refined the idea of sublimation, however. Following French theorist Jacques Lacan, they say that sublimation doesn't have to mean converting sexual desire into another activity like building a house. It could just mean transferring sexual desire from one object to another — moving your affections from your boyfriend to your neighbor, for example.

    6. REPETITION COMPULSION

    by Michael Lunney

Ah, Freud. You gave us so many new feelings and psychological states to explore! The repetition compulsion is a bit more complicated than Freud's famous definition — "the desire to return to an earlier state of things." On the surface, a repetition compulsion is something you experience fairly often. It's the urge to do something again and again. Maybe you feel compelled to always order the same thing at your favorite restaurant, or always take the same route home, even though there are other yummy foods and other easy ways to get home. Maybe your repetition compulsion is a bit more sinister, and you always feel the urge to date people who treat you like crap, over and over, even though you know in advance it will turn out badly (just like the last ten times). Freud was fascinated by this sinister side of the repetition compulsion, which is why he ultimately decided that the cause of our urge to repeat was directly linked to what he called "the death drive," or the urge to cease existing. After all, he reasoned, the ultimate "earlier state of things" is a state of non-existence before we were born. With each repetition, we act out our desire to go back to a pre-living state. Maybe that's why so many people have the urge to repeat actions that are destructive, or unproductive.

    7. REPRESSIVE DESUBLIMATION

    by Michael Lunney

Political theorist Herbert Marcuse was a big fan of Freud and lived through the social upheavals of the 1960s. He wanted to explain how societies could go through periods of social liberation, like the countercultures and revolutions of the mid-twentieth century, and yet still remain under the (often strict) control of governments and corporations. How could the U.S. have gone through all those protests in the 60s but never actually overthrown the government? The answer, he decided, was a peculiar emotional state known as "repressive desublimation." Remember, Freud said sublimation is when you route your sexual energies into something non-sexual. But Marcuse lived during a time when people were very much routing their sexual energies into sex — it was the sexual liberation era, when free love reigned. People were desublimating. And yet they continued to be repressed by many other social strictures, coming from corporate life, the military, and the government. Marcuse suggested that desublimation can actually help to solidify repression. It acts as an escape valve for our desires so that we don't attempt to liberate ourselves from other social restrictions. A good example of repressive desublimation is the intense partying that takes place in college. Often, people in college do a lot of drinking, drugging and hooking up — while at the same time studying very hard and trying to get ready for jobs. Instead of questioning why we have to pay tons of money to engage in rote learning and get corporate jobs, we just obey the rules and have crazy drunken sex every weekend. Repressive desublimation!

    8. APORIA

    by Michael Lunney

You know that feeling of crazy emptiness you get when you realize that something you believed isn't actually true? And then things feel even more weird when you realize that actually, the thing you believed might be true and might not — and you'll never really know? That's aporia. The term comes from ancient Greek, but is also beloved of post-structuralist theorists like Jacques Derrida and Gayatri Spivak. The reason modern theorists love the idea of aporia is that it helps to describe the feeling people have in a world of information overload, where you are often bombarded with contradictory messages that seem equally true.

    9. COMPERSION

    by Michael Lunney

We've gotten into some pretty philosophical territory, so now it's time to return to some good, old-fashioned internet memes. The word compersion was popularized by people in online communites devoted to polyamory and open relationships, in order to describe the opposite of feeling jealous when your partner dates somebody else. Though a monogamous person would feel jealous seeing their partner kiss another person, a non-monogamous person could feel compersion, a sense of joy in seeing their partner happy with another person. But monogamous people can feel compersion, too, if we extend the definition out to mean any situation where you feel the opposite of jealous. If a friend wins an award you hoped to win, you can still feel compersion (though you might be a little jealous too).

    10. GROUP FEELINGS

    by Michael Lunney

Some psychologists argue that there are some feelings we can only have as members of a group — these are called intergroup and intragroup feelings. Often you notice them when they are in contradiction with your personal feelings. For example, many people feel intergroup pride and guilt for things that their countries have done, even if they weren't born when their countries did those things. Though you did not fight in a war, and are therefore not personally responsible for what happened, you share in an intergroup feeling of pride or guilt. Group feelings often cause painful contradictions. A person may have an intragroup feeling (from one group to another) that homosexuality is morally wrong. But that person may personally have homosexual feelings. Likewise, a person may have an intragroup feeling that certain races or religions are inferior to those of their group. And yet they may personally know very honorable, good people from those races and religions whom they consider friends. A group feeling can only come about through membership in a group, and isn't something that you would ever have on your own. But that doesn't mean group feelings are any less powerful than personal ones.

    by angry kitty

The stage has been set. I already feel a little smarter. Question though, so with abjection, can the definition of for exposure to "horrific experiences" be expanded from corpses, shit, and wounds to include say repetitative, non sensical, schizophrenic, posts? Cause it might explain my headache and nausea during parts of the Community TB.

Well from what I've noticed its the anonimity that breeds it. In real life the trolls know that they need to watch their mouths or get the crap beat out of them. But they know that they can hide behind a screen name and go where ever they want and the worst thing that can happen to them is that they get banned. Thats why its good when people stand up to trolls.

PLUS it was from the writers of the liberal shitfest Recount. no BIAS there! no sirree! and that all the top stars and executives contributed 200k dollars to democrats and ZERO to republicans. no BIAS there! no sirreee! and the writers of the movie didnt consult the actual candidates for their propaganda piece. kinda negates the "facts" a little, dont u agree?? oh yea...and they ignored 90% of the freaking book to focus on bashing McCain and Palin. thats a little bit of false advertisement to call a movie based on the book Game Change when u leave out 90% of it. as i saidmcgoo, ur delusions know no bounds.... oh yea, Mahers a prick...

I had to watch it 4 times before I got the gist of what was happening in most of it, but I can safely say that Prometheus has just about edged out Avengers as my MUST SEE movie for this summer. Ridley Scott back to doing what we love seeing Ridley Scott doing - making grand scale epic Sci-FI movies. Damn, I just remembered... it's a whole 3 months away. Avengers in May, Prometheus in June MIB3 in July GI Joe Sequel in August. This may turn out to be the best summer in movie viewing history.

I think your definition of sublimation is a bit off. It's not just about sexual urges. It's about taking an urge and in a healthy person finding a way for it to become accepted or even praised by society. For example, a person may have an unconscious urge to cut the flesh. That person might be a serial killer, but that same urge in a person with a healthy ego may sublimate that urge and become a world famous surgeon.

No death to Asher or Glabber. Saw that whole scene and the non deaths a mile away. I don't buy the egyptian beating crixus in a fight either but I guess they have to build up a formidable opponent.

  • ... and its always the same. u can google my name and multiple jay2517's come up. ones from england i think, ones has a website and so on. i find it funny that EVERYONE assumes im the big ass dude. i admit its flattering that u assume im a muscled up person, but no one assumes im the geeky guy with a website lol? i mean, the arms, chest etc on that dude are pretty big (prob bigger now), but i guess my online ass kicking persona matches that good looking man. btw- i bet he gets A LOT of action from that site. steppy- ps: is it possible that jay can kick a tbers ass?--- was there ANY doubt??

Supernatural has gone down the tubes this season

    by BurnedNotice_Dude

Can't even watch the train headed toward that wreck.

  • It wussed out because Ilythia lived! However, Spartacus sparing her life and her POSSIBLY being pregnant with his child sets up a whole bunch of future storylines, so I'm cool with it. I doubt we'll ever know if it's really his seed, but you can be sure she'll use that "knowledge" again. If not against Spartacus, then against Glabber.
Asher and Glabber can't die yet. They're the current protagonists and I don't believe the season is over yet. Killing them off now would have been anticlimactic. Asher for sure isn't going to die any time soon.
As far as wussing out goes, there's been a couple episodes this season that haven't compared with either Blood and Sand or Gods of the Arena. Unfortunately I think the reason for this is the guy playing Spartacus just isn't as good as Whitfield. You can also tell they aren't trying to use up all their story twists and turns as fast as they did in the first season. I'm sure they know they'll be around for a minute since it's the highest rated program on Starz, like, ever!

  • That was actually a very very clever hour of tv. The other eps are adequate if you're home sick or something and theres nothing else on.

Sam Witwer knocked it out of the park with Maul. I tell ya, that kid's going places. When they do finally produce a live action series, if he doesn't get a main role, the show shouldn't even be done. The last 2 episodes were genuinely creepy and suspenseful. My only gripe would be that the final battle was a little anti-climactic. But just barely. Clone Wars, this season (with maybe 2 exceptions), was far better than any of the prequel films. I'll be going back and watching all of the episodes I missed in the other seasons now. I really didn't think it was worth watching, but I gave it a chance on a whim and I'm so glad I did.

Young Justice, Green lantern, Avengers and Ultimate Spiderman

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Just got back from Wonder-Con in Anahiem, I was able to go to a Marvel animation panel and got to see the season 2 premiere of Avengers and the Pilot episode of Ultimate Spiderman. In the first episode of Avengers the Fantastic Four vist the Avengers and Doom kidnaps Sue Storm and Wasp. It was actually a pretty great episode. Great Hulk/Thing fight also. Spiderman reminds me a little of Spectacular the previous series, but the humor seems a little more anime and the art direction/style is more realistic. Later I was able to go to the DC Animation Panel, Lauren Faust and the other DC shorts producer spoke about the shorts that are now airing between episodes like the Aardman claymation Batman shorts and the Supergirl/Batgirl/Wondergirl shorts. They look really fun. The Green Lantern Producers showed clips of future episodes, looks like that red lantern becomes good, plus we will see Star Saphire, Saint Walker and the Thanigarians plus lots more red lanterns. There was one that really gave Kilowog a beating in the scene that we saw. Looks like season 1 of Young Justice will wrap up and Season 2 will play the next week and its going to be a season long arc called invasion. Looks like its going to be some big alien attack and the Justice League will be busy with some other mission or something, so less watchful eye. We will get to see Blue Beatle, Lobo and a number of other DC superheroes as guest stars and/or new members. Plus it looks like we get to see more of Robins past (the flying greysons) more about Megahn's powers and possible danger level to the team.

  • .....one part of the movie hearsay is when Palin is about to go on for her BIG "debut"....and she told her little "kid" to "say a prayer" and the "little kid" told her husband to say a "little prayer" to their daughter and the next daughter said "say a little prayer" to the next daughter and then "Bristol" told her new born to "say a little prayer" before Palin went on....that was total BULLSHIT....it was fabricated for DRAMATIC purposes IE to make Palin out too be some religious "nut". people like mcgoo REALLY need to calm down and be happy! yeesh!!!

last ep of Spartacus was a letdown

    by Stalkeye

not to mention predictable as I already had a feeling that Lucretia was carrying Sparty's unborn child. And low and behold, he let the bitch go. Oh and I understand that the series is trying to appease to the Gay demographic, and that certain characters are utilized for storytelling purposes, but STARZ, let's not get carried away with the sex scene OK? However, I want to see Lucy Lawless in full frontal (and back) nudity. She's not that big of an actress to turn down a nude clause. She looks great for her age so why not not flaunt her goods?

STFU jay2517. Game change was accurate...

    by Chest_Rockwell

Get your fucking facts straight. Hell, Meet The Press (or this week on abc, i forget) had the REAL Nicole Wallace on their roundtable last week. They showed that clip of after Palin blowing the couric interview where she called Wallace and bitched her out like it was Wallace's fault. Then Wallace called Schmidt and asked to be fired, or at least put back on McCain's campaign. They asked Wallace, "how accurate was that scene?" She said, "accurate enought to send chills down my spine." Besides, if Palin thought Game Change was full of fabrications and lies, she certainly could have sued the author. Of course, in any defamation/libel/slander case, the truth is a complete defense. Palin knew she couldn't win with the book being true, so she didn't sue.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cGBNu9IL_A&nomobile=1 (Notice the YouTube comments by a certain "stormtroll7". Wow. Classy.) When it comes to Maher, Jay2517 keeps on using the word "bigot". Most would say that they do not think it means what he thinks it means. But then again, ol' Jay2517 seems to post from a place of blind, partisan hate. So, saying something to get a rise out of people while slandering someone is clearly not beneath his murky and hypocritical standards. But what else is new?

  • March 18, 2012, 10:40 a.m. CST

    mr. nice gaius

    by Michael Lunney

THe dope you are referring to, who keeps on using the word bigot, is so insane, he obviously is not worth the effort to respond to. There are much saner conservatives who realize that the movie was accurate, and not the hatchet job that so many conservatives blindly accept as truth after hearing all their favorite pundits bleating their condemnation over and over. The ones who are the dopiest are like the idiot who keeps posting here on the Friday talkback to talk smack about Maher- dopes who hate the movie as a pack of lies and distortions, but have not seen it. So, when I ask, what did the movie get wrong, the dope cites one of the more sensitive scenes, one that depicts the Palin family as tightly bound by faith and prayer, but our dope sees that as portraying her as a religious nut. Funny. A conservative sees it in a negative light, even though I doubt he saw the movie, while liberals see that as positive and sensitive. SUMMATION- CONSERVATIVES SPEAK FROM PREDISPOSED ANGER, NOT WISDOM OR KNOWLEDGE. But what else is new?

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

Interesting observation and one worth noting in terms of "debate" here on Talkback. However, I didn't see GAME CHANGE and, therefore, cannot speak of it. I've no interest in the political farce known as Sarah Palin. Her (shall we say) limitations were exposed and made apparent quite some time ago. Everything else with her has been nothing but an ego-fevered dream. Of course, I may be forced to refocus my attention should the GOP end up with a brokered convention and she tries to backdoor everyone without having done an ounce of work. Considering her vanity and penchant for drama, that wouldn't surprise me.

Ilythia is supposedly pregnant with the Spartacus seed.
The show has had gay gladiator characters from day one and the gay sex was more explicit in season one.
Lucy Lawless has been hella naked already.
Never mind.

  • March 18, 2012, 11:45 a.m. CST

asimovlives, going to have to disagree a little

    by Jaka

I'm huge fan of Spartacus. I'm one of the people who constantly pumped it in talkbacks during the first season when a lot of people were trying to dismiss it.
However, this season feels a bit slower and less interesting than the previous two. Not by much, and it's nothing that can't be fixed. Mostly it just feels like they're using more exposition and setup time because they know the show will be back. During the first season that wasn't guaranteed so they went balls out every episode.
Again, I don't think the new guy is as good as Spartacus. His emotional range isn't as believable as Andy Whitfield's was. As such, I think they've pulled a couple of the other actors back a notch or two to match him and it's hurting the show.

I'm not necessarily convinced that the baby is Spartacus'....

    by Kai_Mah'gra

...even though it seems likely. But that revelation just came of as Ilythia being self-presavative and saving her own ass rather than confessing something she knew for a fact. Chances are that she doesn't know for a fact who the father really is. But she saw an opportunity to save her skin with the baby - twice - once before with Glaber when he could have gotten rid of her after her father died in the arena. I mean, this isn't even a case like it was with Lucretia where she was getting laid more by Crixus than she was by Batiatus so chances were in his favor that that child was Crixus' Ilythia was only with Spartacus once, in that fateful night, and if memory serves, she's been with Glaber plenty of times since then. I imagine the reason they let her live (aside from the fact that Viva Bianca, the actress who plays her, is besties with Lucy Lawless, whose husband produces the show) is because she still has pull in Rome with her father's family and Senate connections. IF she makes it back to Rome somehow, child in tow, after having been abandoned by Glaber and left for dead, she no doubt would raise hell and cause trouble. And we already know that Glaber is not the one who puts an end to the rebellion. Marcus Crassus is. And we already know that Glaber is already skating on thin ice since Seppia essentially knows that he's at least in part responsible for the death of her brother. I'd be surprised if Glaber survives through the end of next season with all that he has lined up against him. But at least he's been a pretty decent villain. Asher will outlive them all, though.

  • March 18, 2012, 2:34 p.m. CST

    Yep. Asher and Lucretia.

    by Jaka

That's what I've been saying all along.
All good points, too. I hadn't actually considered that Ilythia would try to go back to Rome instead of directly Glaber. I don't believe she actually knows what took place during the attack, unless someone from Spartacus' side told her. But that's an interesting idea/plan.
I don't truly believe that she is carrying Spartacus' child, either. But like I said up above, it will make for some good twists in the story as she plays the possibility of that truth against other characters.
Seppia is a trip. I haven't really liked her character for most of the season. She seemed kind of pointless until the last couple episodes. I think I'd be kind of disappointed if she was the one who took out Glaber. Not like he doesn't deserve it, though.

  • Executive Producers J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner say they could wrap up the series in comic book form too By CARL CORTEZ / Contributing Editor Posted: March 18th, 2012 / 12:28 PM With FRINGE on a creative high this season, fans have been wondering if Fox may pull another TERRA NOVA and unceremoniously cancel the series before they get a chance to write a satisfying season finale. However, at Wondercon 2012, FRINGE executive producers J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner revealed that it’s still a possibility that a Season 5 will happen. “I think we’re 70/30 that the show is coming back,” says Pinkner. “We’re inside of it and we’re very hopeful, but those odds may be skewered by our own aspirations.” For Wyman, he says that nothing is ever set in stone, but takes a more cautious approach to renewal. “I’ve been in the business for so long, you never know,” explains Wyman. “Something can always change at the last minute, so that’s what’s so precarious.” That said, the producers say they have known where the finale this year is heading, and like last year, it could serve as a series finale. Of course, there is more material that they still could explore in the comic book medium to wrap things up completely. “We were thinking, if things ended, we would make a very special edition or triple edition of the [BEYOND THE FRINGE] comics,” says Wyman. “There are so many ideas and stories we want to do, so for our fans it would be a big deal. So for this show, more than any other show, it’s a possibility.”

However, I do read quite a bit and one of the items I came across was a discussion of the past two street interview segments produced by Pelosi for Maher's show. This coincided with your self-righteous post about Maher. Thus, you have my timely and pertinent comment. Quote: just curious...and how are facts *canned* and *impotent* (more projection lol??)? Quote: wish u did... (Ummm...OK.) Quote: dont know why u would put that video up? (To see if you were even paying attention.) Quote: hmm anyway, i did respond to ur idiot video post.... (I guess you could call it that. Bravo.) *** Based upon a combo of your obviously revised and/or botched posts *** Quote: Maher EMBRACES the stigma of the "South" and mocks it yet DEFENDS the stigma of *inner cities* and tries to DISMISS it as somehow deserved. / Maher embraces the stigma of the *South* and MOCKS it. yet he totally rejects the stigma of *the inner cities* and says they are somehow deserved. Care to define what exactly constitutes the *stigma of the South*? That's a pretty interesting choice of words; would love to know what you mean by them. Could it be the 52% of southern Republicans who still think President Obama is a Muslim? Or the 66% of those who think that the Theory of Evolution is a myth? How does Pelosi's previous segment address a *stigma*? Are you trying to say that the stigma is misinformed ignorance? As for the *stigma of the inner cities*, I would love to know what you mean by this choice of words as well. Because at face value, it looks like you're equating the general concept of the inner city with race. Quote: i mean, the *inner city legacy* is somehow an entitlement? laziness and reverse racism is rewarded? / that the *legacy* of black people trumps their reverse racism. i guess to u, laziness is an entitlement? The *inner city legacy* equals entitlement? Unless you're able to define the legacy, this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. But are you now trying to equate this to what you've called the *legacy of black people*? And you have the nerve to try to play the reverse racism card? Wow. And no, laziness is not an entitlement (really bad phrasing on your part) nor should laziness be rewarded. No one on either side of the Left/Right political spectrum could say the opposite with a straight face. Perhaps you've failed to notice that supporters of such entitlements were just as disgusted by the subject interviews as non-supporters. It's no mystery that the system can be and is abused by those who would take advantage of it. But that doesn't mean that such entitlements aren't reaching the people that genuinely benefit from them or that there are those who have a legitimately harder time getting off of said programs. (Hence Maher's half-assed attempt to empathize with those who have criminal records and so forth.) But I'll go you one further (and we'll see if we can agree on something), Pelosi's second segment was a lousy attempt to provide balance to the previous one. It offered nothing further on people's economic voting interests and retro-actively played into stereotypes of impoverished blacks (which makes it all the more easy for folks like you to play the reverse racism card!). I'll venture to say that nothing of genuine merit was accomplished by the segment and I won't be surprised if it's something Maher addresses again down the road. Quote: no wonder ur a progressive lol. / no wonder ur a progressive lol. Except for the fact that I'm an Independent Moderate/Social Libertarian. However, you managed to show PROGRESS (!) by retyping the exact same thing in a second post. Bravo, sir! Quote: how can u BE so stupid? / how OBTUSE can u be?? i mean, how can u go through life this stupid? How is this for obtuse - GO FUCK YOURSELF. Quote: well, AICN is wacky tonight lol?? Sure. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume that you're referencing the Talkback bug that refuses to allow quotation marks. It's the only reason you might have re-posted the same piffle with less-than-effective edits. Quote: lol. HA!!!

    I think baby is Spartacus's

    by happybunni

They alluded it to this season with flashbacks to him and her having sex in certain places, flashbacks that didn't really need to be shown. I believe it was where he was in the marketplace and she saw him. It is getting better, but a bunch of shit annoys me. How Spartacus is in love with Mira but keeps talking about his wife every episode, he should be using her for comfort but not in love with her. I still hate new Naevia compared to the old one, but I guess they need her for fighting scenes. I don't find Seppia attractive. But the new Spartacus actor is getting better at least.

  • translation- * i am a coward and cannot debate jay2517 for i have no grasp of truth or facts. all i spew are progressive talking points.* but, im used to progressive (and now, libertarian) cowards...

  • And I also much preferred the old one.... until I saw those sword training scenes this week. That woman LOOKED tough. She was actually swinging that thing hard and fast, so that could be it. The first woman was DEFINITELY a MUCH better actress, though.
I have no issues with Seppia's attractiveness - I'd hit it. I just don't find anything about her character interesting. Every other reoccurring character has motives and arcs attached to their story. She's just been a useless lump, barely even done enough to be called a pawn. But that might finally be changing after last week.
Spartacus' motivation since the series began has been his wife. The slave revolution, at least in this series, came later. I don't actually believe that he does love Mira. She's just a warm body. If he truly cared he would take more interest in her training. Her love is unrequited and I'm pretty sure it will play a part in the series at some point.
I wish I could get behind people digging the new guys acting lately. I actually think it's gotten worse. *shrug*

Quote: because that IS how a typical progressive conducts themselves. HA!!! You wanna talk about projection??? Projection, thy name is Jay2517!!! Quote: but, since u have finally manned up and self identified, i will take u at ur word that u are a libertarian. however, u DO sound like a typical progressive. sorry :) Independent Moderate/Social Libertarian and I told you that about 5-6 TBs ago. Thanks for paying attention... Quote: really? there u go being obtuse again. When you lob the word obtuse, I think it's becoming increasingly clear that you're unsure of how to answer because you fear that I've set a rhetorical trap. Heh, heh... Quote: u know exactly what im talking about. how the "South" is nothing but inbred, stupid racist rednecks etc. Interesting. Well, that is a bit of a stereotype but not without some merit (further response below)... Quote: please, stop asking stupid rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions would be those to which I do not expect a reply. No, I wanted an answer from you, boyo. Because half the time, I'm not convinced that you even know what you're trying to say. (Unless of course, it's something like, *Typical progressive!*) Quote: nope, but u just did. thanks for making my point again :) No, misinformed ignorance is not the same as referring to someone as *inbred, stupid racist rednecks etc.* There is quite a difference. The point that has been made in poll after poll and stat after stat is that the southern GOP base has held themselves up to a stigma (if you will) of voting with their prejudices as opposed to their community/self economic interests. Just look at the primary results. Sounds like someone needs to brush up on their exit polling data and voting block breakdowns. (That would be you...) Quote: again with the idiotic rhetorical question. predominantly black, drugs, crime etc. Again, stereotyping but thanks for coming clean on that. Quote: cry me a fucking river. Utter fucking fail. Even for your level of deflection, that's pathetic. Quote: agreed. they were both reprehensible. Fair enough. Taste is subjective. Quote: thats something i never do. Except you did. Quote: BTW- *folks like me* LOL?? looky likes someone is projecting again. You mean conservatives who play/accuse the reverse racism card? How is that NOT you? Fucking DUH! Quote: doubt it, and again, u will never know because u never watch. Awww, never say never, Jay-bell! Makes you look foolish. Quote: right back at u asshole. That's the spirit! I knew you had it in you.

No, he's quite sane which makes him all-the-more a hopeless asshole. His political worldview is totally myopic and reactionary.
