Is This Piping-Hot
Blonde Actress The Next
DOCTOR WHO Companion??

Bleeding Cool is making the argument that the BBC may be about to announce Sophia Myles – ex-girlfriend of former “Who” star David Tennant – will play the next “Who” companion.
Myles, who played a guest role in the episode “The Girl in the Fireplace,” was the female lead in CBS’ short-lived Vampire drama “Moonlight” and played Erika in the “Underworld” vampire movies. She also played Lucy Westenra in the 2006 TV Movie “Dracula.”
Her other big-screen credits include “Mansfield Park,” “From Hell,” “Thunderbirds” and “Tristan + Isolde.”
I say Myles is too big a deal to play s “Who” companion for any length of time, but I’m willing to entertain the theory just for the opportunity to stare at her:

And i feel kind of iffy about it. Are they going to try and fit Madame de Pompadour as an actual companion for the Doctor, or will she just play the role of another random girl? If she is reprising her role, then I feel a bit ambivalent, since it seems that Moffat just wants to continuously dip into the well of his past successes. Not that there's anything terribly wrong with that, I suppose. In any case, if she does become the Doctor's companion, I certainly won't be complaining to much. She's rather gorgeous. But in my geek heart of hearts, Amy Pond will always be the best companion ever, bar none.
-
Bringing back Madame de Pompadour, a real life historical person, as a companion might be interesting. I have only seen a tiny smattering of pre-2005 episodes so I can't speak with any authority, but I don't think having a real person as a regular recurring character has been done before. But I would simply settle for bringing back Donna Noble.
-
Myles and Moffat have a running twitter tease to fans about this....ergo its not gonna happen. Although I'd love it.
-
She wouldn't be terrible but I would hope they'd go with someone fresher. They should try to get the actress who plays Lady Sybil on Downton Abbey.
-

it wouldn't be the first time a companion's recycled...
by TheSeeker7
After all, Karen Gillan did play a completely different role during the Donna Noble years, in the Pompeii episode. Granted, she amounted to little more than an extra in like two scenes, she certainly had no lines. She was just one in a group of young women all in the same outfit. But still!

She had me with the first photo

Ugh, a bit on the chubby side. How about an actress who isn't fat.

Same actress, different character, COMPLETELY precedented in Who
by glenn_the_frog
Lalla Ward, who played Romana II, had appeared as an entirely different character, Princess Astra, in just the season prior. They even made a joke or two about her looking the same. So the precedent is there, absolutely. Other actors have recurred as different characters fairly often as well (shows often go to the same reliable stack of names) but that was the most major and obvious... since the two characters appeared only an episode apart.
-
What a shame that the best Beowulf film Outlander was basically buried and forgotten. You should all check it out if you haven't already.
-
For keeping my faith in the net with the predictability of trolls. I just love when I see places around online where incredibly beautiful women are being cast off as "fat" if they weight one pound over 105lb. And it's done so often (ripping on celebrities) because sadly it's the easiest thing in the world to do, you get to put your remark out there to get to make yourself feel superior while still having complete anonymity. You don't think she's all that hot or attractive, fine, but in no sane, reasonable galaxy is Sophia Myles anywhere approaching fat, and it serves to only make you look like a petty fool to suggest otherwise.
-
First- Mr. Moe, you're an idiot. Second- I thought she was wonderful in "The Girl in the Fireplace," but unless she's coming back as the same character this doesn't work for me. If they want to reach back into recent Who history for another companion, I'd much rather see Georgia Moffett - let the Doc spend some quality family time with his daughter.
-
Hell, old #6 originally played Maxil in the Ark of Infinity. Definite precedent and Ms. Myles is currently in Spain working on an unannounced project. I'm in.
-
Her performance in "Girl in the Fireplace" was so amazing that it would be great to see her again. @glenn_the_frog : in "City of Death", an artist in Paris draws a picture of Romana as a broken clock ("the clock on the mantle is broken") with a crack across it that is a very similar shape to the crack from season 5 then watch "City of Death". Wouldn't it be awesome if this grand time-hopping story arc was a build-up to a return of Romana, once again taking the form of someone the Doctor had previously met?
-
I just end up leaving superfluous sentence fragments lying around the middle of my thoughts.
-
Should have grabbed her for a companion as Sally Sparrow while they had the chance. Billie vs Freema? Billie wins hands down every time. And yeah, get rid of this Matt Smith guy. We need a Doctor with some gravitas. I'd rather see Eccleston back than more Smith.
-
Freema Agyeman, before playing Martha Jones, was a Torchwood employee in the episode, "Army of Ghosts." Snuck off for a snog with her boyfriend and discovered the Cybermen amongst the plastic sheeting. She didn't survive long enough to tell anybody, as I recall.
-
She looks like a beaten down version of Yvonne Strahovski.
-
surprised no one has mentioned that she was in that (showing all her best bits too)
-
I luv when stereotypical geek turds talk about hot women this way. Like you'd kick her out of bed, right? Yeah...riiight. Of course w/trolls like you there's absolutely ZERO chance of ever seeing a real woman naked...and that chance goes into infinity where an actress is concerned. LOL
-
Another more recent example would be Eve Myles who played a character in the Eccelston WHO episode w/Charles Dickens, and later starred in TORCHWOOD as that character's descendant!
-
I believe they mentioned on screen that Martha Jones and that character were related (cousins or something)

re: "I say Myles is too big a deal to play “Who” companion for any length of time"
by buggerbugger
She recently played a series regular in 'Spooks', so there's no reason to see why she wouldn't be up for 'Who' companion for a series (or more). "Too big", my arse. Pretty lady, decent actress. She'd put the current blank-faced stick insect to shame in every department. Yeah, I'd be okay with Sophia Myles, even though she wouldn't necessarily be my first choice. Will it happen? No. Why not? Because the regular 'Who' sites would have this news loooong before it crawled its way to AICN and they're saying shit all on the subject.
-
and if she's your concept of fat Mr. Moe you've got a very skewed way of looking at the female form

Does this mean we can have Chwietel Ejiofor as the Doctor sometime soon, and dump the spaz in the fez?

I suspect is a gay type person who prefers the boyish figure Damnable troll
-
That would tie in with the rumours , not sure quite how I'd feel if she returned as the same character but I liked her as an actress and found her a more engaging screen presence than Amy Pond. Much as I like Karen Gillan , I've rarely felt an emotional connection to the character in the way I did to Rose & Donna...I felt a little less connected to Martha also. The only episode I felt she did really well was Vincent & the Doctor. I do love Matt Smith though and my kids all prefer him to Tenant, even the wife has accepted him who was totally smitten with the 10th Doctor.
-
Le Sigh.....
-
Hugh Laurie should be the next Doctor. His House obligations end this year and he has a cool persona. He is the right combination of smart and ironic. as for Sophia Myles she is not fat by a longshot. She would be OK if they changed Doctors but not right for Matt Smith.
-
of Yvonne Stra-hot-ski from Chuck. As for Romana, let us remember that Romana may still be alive, as she stayed behind in N-SPACE (alternate Universe) at the end of the Tom Baker ep "Warriors Gate". For years they've thrown up the "last of the timelords" idea, but they have also allowed for the possibiity of alt-univeres in NuWho. So why not a crack into NSpace? I belive Romana did return from NSpace in one of the radio series, though it is not canon. Anyone heard that series actually? And OUTLANDER was a great deal of fun. Sophia had red hair in that flick.

Sophia's nice (not "hot"), but producers panicky, as usual.

They're afraid to do anything but get into their human centipede. <p> Judi Dench should not have been M in the Bond movies with Craig, either.

re: "[Romana] stayed behind in N-SPACE (alternate Universe)"
by buggerbugger
'Our' universe is N-Space (Normal Space). Romana stayed behind in E-Space (Exo-Space), which isn't an alternative universe, it's more like a pocket universe that exists alongside 'ours' but is kept separate by Charged Vacuum Emboitment technobobbins. Romana returned to N-Space in a pair of novels published by Virgin, 'Goth Opera' and 'Blood Harvest' (by Paul Cornell and Terrance Dicks respectively) and she eventually rose to the position of President of the High Council. The Big Finish audio adventures picked up with her already in office as President in a "neither-confirm-nor-deny" policy, re: the novels.

Karen Gillan is hotter.

but I always thought her character in Dr Who was very memorable... perhaps she plays the same person though?
-

Having her playing a different character would be wrong
by performingmonkey
She has a very prominent role in one of Moffat's old episodes. It would be like if Alex Kingston had come in and not played River Song, everyone would have been 'wtf?' Her connection with the Doctor was so deep it only makes sense for her to be playing the same role, Madame du Pompadour. Btw, I don't think she's even gonna be cast as the companion, though we may see her again, sure.
-
It's not just women being cast in different roles before becoming a regular on the seire. It actually goes back to Nick Courtney being cast as the Brigadier under Pat Troughton after having been a different character in a William Hartnell story. So, we have a 45 year tradition of this going on. Also, Colin Baker played a different Time Lord before playing the Doctor. I will give Herc props for mentioning Bleeding Cool as the source for the speculation and linking to it.

They should get the actress from Blink to be the next companion
by Joe Plumber
She can even play the same character. She was great.
-
Unless you were joking and meant Carey Mulligan.
-
no... but am I the only person who thinks that cracking on with an adaptation of Crooked Little Vein with Louis CK playing Mike McGill is a no brainer?
-
River Song was a VERY recurring major character. While the character that Myles played was central to her one episode, that's indeed all it was -- ONE episode, and nothing more (and even for a previous Doctor, not even this one). It wouldn't be the least bit weird for her to play someone new.
-
Much hotter than a robot dog.
-
If his performance as a zany schoolboy doesn't change next season Dr Who'll become even more silly.
-
Yes, that's her. I was being serious. I remember when that episode first aired thinking she'd be a great companion.
-
Not some schoolboy looking bloke pretending to be one.
-
Or does he have so many women throwing themselves at him due to his fame that he's spreading it around?
-
It feels like It's My Birthday! recently, what with - amongst a load of other stuff - Jared Harris looking like he very well might get to play Sinestro yet in Fringe!
-
He's not "Dr. Who" and he's not "Doctor Who".
-
Rioght, but gimme a fuckin break Doctor mattdomville.
-
Hear, hear. Currently, it's like watching three punchable students on their fucking gap year. I'll take a Stephen Mangan as the Doctor, ta. Yes, he's very facially-similar to Tom Baker, but maybe that'd be a good thing.
-
For Season 9. It's another British BBC1 show, she did a series, and would have done another if they'd wanted her back. So easy to believe she is just the right deal to be in a bigger show

re: "He's the Doctor. He's not "Dr. Who" and he's not "Doctor Who". "
by buggerbugger
Try telling that to 18 years of closing credits. And WOTAN: "Doctor Who is required.". Oh, and times the Doctor has used variations on 'Doctor Who' as his pseudonym. Doctor Von Wer? Any fan worth his salt knows this. He's the Doctor. He's Dr. Who. He's Doctor Who.
-
A couple of people in a country most I know would sell family into slavery for a chance to visit, and they spend much of the movie in their hotel rooms complaining about being bored? Kinda hard to feel sorry for these idiots.
-
Calling Doctor Moe, Doctor Larry, Doctor Curly.... the current Dr. is an embarrasing actor for the role- turns me off after so many years of enjoyment- get a nnew one STAT!!!!!
-
with Jessica Findlay Brown as the companion. I know he's doing Homeland but it's only a 13 week a year series.
-
Thanks for the flesh-out. It has been 25 years since I saw the 'e-space' cycle. But I think the companion universe stands. They did parrallel world in the Tennant cycle, and didn't they have the Tardis graveyard in "The Doctor's Wife" as a pocket universe? Especially thanks on the novel & radio details. Another question: Are Doctor Who talkbacks the new "Mad Men" talkbacks? I wouldn't think so, but Herc was not a Whovian when last Don Draper was on the air. Counting down to the end of March and Draper's return.

a nice looking lass. And by that i mean HOLY HOT BABY!!!
by AsimovLives
But Karen Gilliam is leaving the show? Nooo!!!! Why can't they have both? And then making them a lesbian couple? That would be hot and all kinds of awesome.

Ugh, a bit on the chubby side. How about an actress who isn't fat.

March 14, 2012, 7:34 p.m. CST
darth_meh, you mean Carrie Mulligan? The same "highly demanded everybody in Holywood wants her" Carrie Mulligan?
by AsimovLives
Welll, kinda agree. But she needs to have her hair grow long again.

you would be so happy to have her on your bed, mates!

When the Brits manage to produce a good-looking woman on rare occasions, they really go all out!

raptorjesus -- no, Tennant is hooked up with ANOTHER actress who's also done the show before

I forget the girls first name suddenly, Georgina(?) Moffat - no relation. Ya know, the girl who played the Doctor's daughter in the episode, well, The Doctors Daughter. so yes, Tennant got hitched to his own on screen daugther lol and they even have a kid now, I believe.

by TheSeeker7
True, you'd obviously be going even younger than with Matt Smith, but I think he'd be a great choice. and the doctor can finally be ginger!
-
Yep, Farscape's John Crichton is playing a cowboy in an American wild west episode of Who filming in Spain currently. If Sophia Myles is in Spain filming a project right now...connect the dots.
-
Plus Dr 5 has actually met Dr 10 on the show. But she has got lovely-wovely wibbly wobbly bits so I guess that's okay …
-
No chance. She has been quiet since Spooks. I have noticed her tweeting the Moff earlier this year.
-
I thought we were done with the BS loophole solutions to huge problems after they got rid of Davies. Last season was pretty much a complete wash.

of Madame Pompador. Does away with the problem of being played by the same actress and she can inherit her 'feisty' personality.

This is from doctorwhonews.net... "Back in January, Steven Moffat had made an enigmatic comment about following Sophia Myles on Twitter, saying "I'll explain later. Or not.«". That statement led to widespread speculation as to whether the actress would be returning to Doctor Who, and whilst the lead writer has yet to say anything else to confirm or deny this, the actress herself mentioned being in Spain on Monday at the same time as production was taking place in Almeria: "My bag has just been located at Malaga airport. Hope it gets to me tomorrow.«" Further fuel for the fire appeared on Friday with Arthur Darvill saying to her: "great to meet you. I think I ran off at the end. Good times.«". It remains to be seen whether the actress really will re-appear in Doctor Who or if these are just coincidences!"
-
Give him a while to lose the association with House. I'd be expecting him to have a team in white lab coats following him everywhere. . Writer Peter David had a neat idea, though, get the guy who played Xavier in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. He could pull it off effortlessly.
