Paramount Is Going To Make You Wait Longer For WORLD WAR Z!!!

The Kidd here...

We've been waiting a long time to find out what a big screen adaptation of the very difficult to adapt World War Z would look like ever since we became mesmorized by the first oral interview written by Max Brooks six years ago. If you're a zombie fan, you've made it a point to read World War Z, and, even if you're not, it's definitely one you should give a look to anyway. It's really friggin' good.

When the rights were bought up back in 2007, fans kept wondering when we would see it until finally Brad Pitt and Marc Forster were able to put it over the hump amidst word of trouble getting the script right. After dealing with some budgeting issues that threatened a movie of such zombie scope, things kept rolling right along, and we were all promised we'd be receiving WORLD WAR Z in film form under our Christmas trees (or Festivus poles or whatever goes along with the holiday you celebrate) this year on December 21.

Well, that's not going to happen.

Paramount announced that they're pulling WORLD WAR Z from its holiday slot, to be replace by Tom Cruise's ONE SHOT, which is getting the bump up from its February release date. Now WORLD WAR Z will be released as summer fare, planting its flag in June 21, 2013, where it's now set to go head-to-head with the Pixar prequel MONSTERS UNIVERSITY.

I understand getting WORLD WAR Z out of a crowded holiday field this year, where it'd have to find for its audience share amongst THE HOBBIT and DJANGO UNCHAINED and THE GREAT GATSBY and numerous others. Perhaps the summer will be kinder to a film such as this, but there's a part of me that's wondering if they got WORLD WAR Z completely wrong if they're going to try selling it as a summer blockbuster. Don't get me wrong... there's some incredible stuff in the book that'll put some other summer movies to shame, but I just don't see summer movie written anywhere on it.

Plus, I'm a little pissed that I'm going to have to wait six more months to find out.

Thoughts?
