New And Cool AVENGERS Character Posters!!
Merrick here...
Yesterday, we learned that AMC Theaters and Marvel would be facilitating a marathon of all Marvel superhero films relevant to THE AVENGERS, leading into a midnight debut of THE AVENGERS (details HERE).
Now come four new character poster from THE AVENGERS, which opens in U.S. theaters May 4.
There's still something quite surreal about the fact that this movie even exists. A few years back, if I had to lay odds on a project NOT happening due to its overall potential hassle factor, this woulda been one I would've expected never to see the light of day (due to potential logistics, costs, the juggling of personalities, etc. ) Yet here it is, and more power to 'em. I'm beyond stoked to see the results.

Seriouisly. No one looks/walks/poses like that in real life, and looks absolutely ridiculous on the screen. No one says, "Wow! You look like a bad ass!" ScarJo's Black Widow appears to be the most egregious, and the fact that she can't pull it off makes even worse.<p>Additionally, as someone already said - we know what RDJ looks like. We're not going to the movie to see RDJ - we're going to see Iron Man. The same complaint was voiced about Toby McGuire in Spider-Man. Keep the damn mask on.

The Avengers master plan is continuing to impress and will hopefully translate into monster box office. I wonder what the folks at Warner Bros. are thinking right now. I'm sure they are watching to see if it will tank. A JLA movie would likely have been as big as an Avengers flick if not bigger. Maybe when they reboot Batman they will feel they can get outside of Nolan's Dark Knight universe which isn't really a place for superheroes per se. Nolan's is Exec. Producing Superman so that could be a look into what a potential JLA film could look like.

Take the background characters out and they would be a whole lot better. I mean is it a Hawkeye poster or a Hulk poster.... Put the Helmet on RDJ. I've been doing graphics for 15+ years and the shop work on these is amateur!!!

Seriously. Look at the resolution on Cap's shield in the 1st poster. That lazy-ass blur & filter job on Cap in the 2nd poster. The lighting - is Hulk's back reflective? - in the 3rd poster. It's like Marketing put out that bogus poster a few weeks ago, fans hated it, so Marketing IRL trolled 'em & made zoomed-in copies of the original, crappy poster.

The only excuse I will accept from Marvel for running such poorly executed print campaign is that they used that money on the film itself. I mean, how is it that a traffic light behind Hulk's head is more out of focus than the building way in the background. There is so much wrong with the poster work for this film I don't even know where to being. . . Who the hell approved this stuff ??

Especially the one with Black Widow, I love how they pointlessly re-sized the same image of cap and tucked him in the background.. They did the same with Hulk in the last poster with RDJ... Awful

There is some really great photoshop talent out there, why do we keep getting lame movie posters? These posters are better than the last few, but still. Its lazy design to use the same pose for two different posters. With all of the filters and other various tools in photoshop I just do not get why its so hard to make a decent poster. Guess I will have to get my shit together and start making movie posters myself.

These new posters were being revealed as cities bought up tickets to midnight premieres. As soon as a few more cities hit the right number (whatever it is), more posters will be revealed, no doubt including Thor and Fury. The Avengers Facebook page explains it all

Now augmented by Stark Industry weapons facing flying targets. They're probably going to take down more bad guys than Cap. They actually make sense in this because they're going to be valuable, but feel overwhelmed fighting alongside Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man. There actually might be some drama in that believe it or not. Hawkeye even has magical arm switching gear.

the poses were consistent within all the posters, like time was frozen and each poster just zoomed to a new angle for each character. it almost does- the hulk is the same in each poster, and cap'n is the same...hawkeye is the first glaring difference in poses, and he should be behind iron man and in front of hulk if there was continuity in the posters. just saying, that would have been a cool touch.

So Widow is in the movie to show off her espionage skillz by getting the Hulk out of the (jail) made by Loki. And Hulk gets free and rages both of them out of there. Im sure this happens. I mean, Scarlett is great and all but I never bought her as the Black Widow; Widow is more... I don't know, something else. She seemed like an add-on in IM2 and never sold me as the Widow. That guy playing Hawkeye looks like a dork. Cap is all right. His comic book image is a tough one to duplicate in real life. Whatever. Iron Man is awesome and RDj is absolutely perfect casting as Stark, but whenever he is in his Iron Man suit without the helmet it looks weird. I hated that birthday party scene in IM2 where Tony had the armor without the helmet - it makes the armor look like a toy suit for some reason. But the Hulk... god damn does the Hulk look cool. I'm sure appearances are deceiving. They always are in the publicity shots and posters, and then things look fine in the actual movie. Thor was like that. I thought Thor looked silly until I saw him in the movie.

after a year or so of seeing Smurf and Lorax posters plastered all over the fucking place, I'd be happy to see these on construction site fences. It will be corny and cartoony no doubt. It's JLA that needs to portray the heros as god-like beings of an almost abstract nature. The Avengers yuck it up with humans on the street after a big fight - the JLA fly back up to their palace in the sky, above and beyond the human masses. Please make it so..

My concern is that, so far, everything seems to sideline Thor. He's the most powerful member of the team - The Avenger's Superman - and so far the most we've seen is him hitting a somehow not obliterated Captain America with his hammer (albeit on his shield). We've seen way more of the little girl with the guns than the team's god, and now he's even missing a poster. I'm hoping this will all be rectified in the movie but it's a worry...

First off, the fake-assed heat effect just pisses me off. They would be burning fucking alive if that were real. In the first poster, Hawkeye looks like he's standing on a chair behind Cap. And as is typical for Photoshop mash-ups, the light is coming from different sources for each of them. In teh second poster....man what the FUCKING FUCK? Why is there a cardboard cutout of Captain America right behind Black Widow? And of course, as with all these posters, two totally different light sources. Oh and they're both walking through fucking fire. In the third poster Hulk and Hawkeye are apparently standing on a skateboarder's ramp, and in the fourth Iron Man has explosive, flaming farts. It's just fucking sad, man. These layout artists have my fucking dream job and they just don't give a shit.

They copied Hulk from the Hawkeye/Hulk poster and pasted him in the Starkman/Hulk poster, they just shrunk the image. They might have done that with the Cap images as well. Now that's just fuckin' lazy. These posters are gay gay gay, really boring. Wtf, where is Ironman's helmet/ironface? Who gives a shit about Tony Downey Jr? Seriously, what the fuck? ... there is no freakin' law that says a figure can only be lit by one, ESPECIALLY with a zillion explosions, streetlights and the sun are involved. Jeez. Some of the rest of the complaints I can understand. Hawkeye's ambidexterity (first thing I noticed); Hawkeye's involvement, period and ... well, everyone else is concerned with whatever threat they're facing but, oh no, not ScarJo Widow, she's just comin' at you, Mr. Camera, and you ain't gonna like it ... or maybe you will. If I've said it once, I've said it 6 or 7 times (in talkbacks): ScarJo Widow WILL be the one savin' the rest of the Avengers and, thus, savin' the world (and, no, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out). Blech. Cap's helmet in the first poster is probably the best I've seen it so far, and the Hulk still looks his best out of the three movies he has been in. Not everything's negative in these.

Have them all fit into a greater scene, like you see Hawkeye behind Hulk in the Iron Man poster and Hulk behind Hawkeye in the Cap poster. That would make the re-used shots work.

Yes, there's no "law" saying you can't have multiple light sources but that's not to say it still doesn't look weird. The human eye notices it, sometimes just on an unconscious level but everyone can tell when something just looks wrong.

Just flip the Hulk around and hey presto, problem solved. But that's the problem, a thing like realistic light sources probably didn't even enter into the head of whatever work experience kid they asked to knock these up. Damn, I really hate to sound like a snob but it's just so annoying I think back to my childhood and remember posters for Star Wars, Raiders, Back to the Future... works of art that took extreme talent to create and now we get something ANY of us could do ourselves... that's just fucking sad.

Seriously, what is with all the Marvel graphic designers? These have been worse and worse with little to no creativity or thought. First Class's designers were bad and it looks like they got hired on again!

The 2nd is probably the worst. Lazy ass design, blur filter, wrong proportionally- unless scar jo is a frigging amazon and Chris Evans is that wee. It's like they paid a bundle for a photoshoot, came up with crap, and didn't want the shots to go to waste. crap crap crap.

If you don't understand the excitement for this film, then you really aren't the target, are you? People who read, or have read, comics are the target. Fans of the Avengers and it's singular members are the target. And I can honestly say that asking someone to "explain the anticipation" is a rather stupid question.

Hey Fox, get your thumbs out of your fucking asses, you stupid moronic tools. Marvel has laid it all out for you. Erase all previous X-Men movie continuity. Take some of the top X-Men characters, put them in their own quality movies (emphasis on QUALITY) with all new actors. DON'T make them origin films ... they are already X-Men but on disparate individual missions (not end of the world stuff necessarily). Then bring them together for a big team up against something other than Magneto. Movie 1: Scott and Jean Movie 2: Wolverine (new actor) Movie 3: Nightcrawler Movie 4: Professor X Movie 5: Bring all that shit together, adding in Beast, Storm, or whoever in a big team up against the Sentinels as they begin hunting down mutants. Or something else cool and big. AND HOW THE FUCK HAS FOX NOT PUT TOGETHER X-Men and The Fantastic Four???? Seriously ... Do the 5 movies above, all released a year or so apart, release a new FF movie in between movie 4 & 5. Then, two years or so after Movie 5, you bust out the X-Men vs. Fantastic Four. Tell me that wouldn't be the ultimate in comic book movies. I guarantee $3 - $4 billion in worldwide gross for all those movies ... if they are done right, with quality scripts, decent budgets, good actors, and MINIMAL STUDIO INTERFERENCE. Box office gold, I tell you. GOLD!

Definitely agree on the weak "A", but that's not the real problem. Keep in mind this isn't about nitpicking accuracy to the comics. It's about the choices the comic correctly made over 70 years to make Cap look good. 1) The "mouth opening" of the mask goes back too far on his face. This makes his jawline look weak. 2) The wing looks flouncy rather than deco, and is way too low and close to his ear. That makes too much dead space on the crown of his head 3) I think showing his ear would also lend balance and break up all the blue, but this is probably one of those things that just wouldn't physically work with a real person.

well first, the movie shows you the members of the avengers in action! then after you see it for about oh fifty hundred times you can make adventures and action just like the movie with your new avengers toys. and you can memorize the knee slapping funny dialog and have your toys say them and if your really cool you can blow things up in your yard.

Caps helmet mask actually looks good in this shot. I hope it looks as good on screen, because in all the behind the scenes shots it looks large and clumbsy. Also on the poster the helmet wings are raised, whereas they're stenciled on the film photos. Here's to hoping they went back and got it right.

is on to something in his reply to my question. I don't think this movie should get a free pass from anyone, just because they read the comics. It really seems strange to me that people are going nuts over this. I mean, did Thor, Captain America, and the last Hulk movie really impress everybody that much? I saw them. There was nothing there that would get me excited for the Avengers movie. Were you impressed? I don't think my question as to why everyone is thinking this will be THE SHIT, is stupid. Actually, I get the feeling you're being a little defensive here. What if instead of pulling that good ol' "you don't get it because you're not comic geek and if you were you would also hail the Avengers movie as the second fucking coming", you try to enlighten me?
