Alex Winter Is Talking BILL & TED 3 Again!!
The Kidd here...
Ever since Keanu Reeves commented that a third BILL & TED adventure was a real possibility, momentum has continued to pick up for the reunion of Wyld Stallyns sometime in the near future.
Original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon teamed up once more, and, along with Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston, Esq.) and Reeves (Ted Theodore Logan), tried cracking another story with the beloved characters. They were able to come up with something, as both Reeves and Winter recently commented that a script was done. Now it's a matter of getting a thumbs-up to move forward on it, but, before they do, maybe Winter would be kind enough to give us some insight into what a third movie would entail.
In talking to MTV, Winter explained that where Bill and Ted are 20 years later is a big part of it, but so are their musical inclinations.
"That was a big part of the movies, so what’s happened to rock and roll in the last twenty years.. so the movie’s gonna get in and play with some of that stuff. Where’s rock, where are we, what’s happened to the whole idea of saving the world, or what hasn’t happened?”
Does this mean we can officially cast Nickelback as the villains in BILL & TED 3 for what they've done to the genre that was supposed to bring us peace?

Except the movies really had nothing to do with Rock 'N' Roll
by Emperor_was_a_jerk
The movies had nothing to do with music. They were about two schmucks who were in a shitty band- and that band became so big that people turned it into a religion/way of living. It was the fact that they were so bad that made it ridiculous, and therein lies the joke. Besides, I can't remember one song they did! The first one was lots of fun and still holds up in a rent-it-and-look-back-fondly kind of way. The sequel... well not so good. So bad that me, my wife and my kids just got bored half way in and stopped watching. Still, i would love to see Bill and Ted on the big screen again, and make it count!
-
or some rock n' roll figurehead. like mick jagger or paul mccartney or robert plant.
-
He's got 2 other things on his plate: Jack & Shit.
-
First is definitely the best, the second ups the ante but is more hit and miss. They can do crazy but it has to have a bit of a grounding for it to work. Would love to see Reeves back in goofball mode.
-
I was really disappointed in the second movie, after being a gigantic fan of the first and watching it, over and over again. The second just went way, way too far and got too stupid...the idea was okay, but they just went way too far with stupid crap like the alien creature that can split himself in two, etc... If they get back to the roots of the characters that were established in the first movie, I'm all about a sequel. Make the second movie some kind of bizarre dream thing or something...
-
Hells yes! Also, wtf DID happen to bands like Phish, Blur, or Nirvana?
-
Looks like we shared a simultaneous thought
-
..Fact.
-
It was some of the simple joys that made the first movie what it was, like Beethoven laughing with glee when he discovers the joy of modern day window-washing spray

Bogus Journey is definitely superior tech.. Hope they still have the "good robot us's" running around their houses ;)

I saw Bogus Journey in the theater with a friend and we both loved it. When it came out on VHS to rent a few months later we rented it and it just fell flat. It still amazes me how I can't rewatch it although I had such a great time the first time I saw it.
-
FREAKED is amazing. I'm totally down for a Billy & Ted 3.

A comedy about the current state of rock and roll, two guys from the 80's who haven't changed a bit, time travel... sounds good to me.

Isis, Pelican, The Sword, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Torche, Barkmarket, Unsane, Kyuss, PJ Harvey, Giant Drag, Aeges, Slayer, The Refused, Red Sparowes, Dax Riggs, Saviours, Preistess, Valient Thorr. These are the rock bands that can save the future, even though none of you listen.

Bill and Ted 2 was inferior, but great fun. Bill and Ten possessing the cops was great (how awesome was the actor who played Ted's dad playing Ted?). Hell should have been much better and much more, but what the hell. Evil Bill and Ted were almost scary as evil stoners (although I would have preferred alternate universe B&T with evil Spock Goatees... The killing of Bill and Ted at the famous Gorn vs. Kirk location, the dad's having switched places as the porkers of the slut MILF mom, the Home Depot shopping spree, the great newspaper montages at the end (Villain Damalos eventually marrying the Bill/Teds mom, etc etc etc). The suprising unveiling of the hot black Battle of the Bands manager as Rufus...Just great shit. If the Shawshank redneck who play Death won't do it, get Adam Carolla. Get Patton Oswalt to play Rufus - like a Timelord he regenerated in a new form. Use CGI for new footage of young Bill n Ted (like they did to Jeff Bridges in Tron 2).
-
Was the future fashion going from cool rock in roll coats and boots, to retarded foam rubber day-glo clothing, giant boots, sideways caps. Who the fuck had that idea? Jeez.
-
with a few time jaunts via a phone booth back in time to various periods.

... was one of the funniest things I have seen. Looking forward to a third one.
-
I still don't really get that, perhaps I never will. Is it just popular right now to hate Nickleback ? btw Break a leg, Bill & Ted !! Pardy On, Dudes !

Keanu joked about it a couple of years ago. Then someone actually asked Herzog, and he said he'd consider taking on BILL & TED 3 if the script was good. http://www.movieweb.com/news/exclusive-werner-herzog-will-consider-directing-bill-ted-3 It's a million to one, but still fun to think about.
-
as much as I've always wanted a Ghostbusters 3, it seems like it would just be re-warmed leftovers from the freezer. This, on the other hand, is kind of out of left field. Sure, it's a way to make some money on a short-lived, fun franchise, but they don't have that much to live up to except to make it funny and kind of sci-fi. Also, the only reason I think GB3 would suck is because of how much of a letdown "Blues Brothers 2000" was when I was a teen. Man, I LOVE the original SO MUCH too.
-
We all know he loves George Carlin.
-
I would love to see Edgar Wright do this
-
even if there's no suck thing as mainstream rock anymore, that's what the movies are about so they'll just have to bring it back.
-
Carlin elevated every part he was in - I hope they replace him with another high quality comic / actor.
-
How many goofy teen movies feature an extended parody of an Ingmar Bergman film?
-
He was hilarious in Bogus Journey.
-
...if they're still using the "some time has passed since they were supposed to change the world" plot that was originally talked about. Without Rufus to guide them, Bill & Ted have to grow up and figure things out for themselves...

Re: The Whole Point To BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE ...
by ArmageddonProductions
... and to a lesser, more-dilluted degree, BOGUS JOURNEY (though it probably got filtered through a director who didn't get it the second time around and a studio coughing up more money and having more say in the end product) is that the whole movie is a teen metal-head stoner fantasy. Everything hat happens in EXCELLENT ADVENTURE and BOGUS JOURNEY is something two stoned Eighties'-era metal-heads would have sat around and come up with in a Mead spiral notebook, from their whacked-out band winding up saving the world to time-travelling back in time to romance Middle Ages'-era princesses. Not sure if that joke would work in today's context.

No, he sort of settled for a career as a director with "FREAKED", "FEVER" and a ton of TV work, so while I guess your joke has a bit of humorous merit, and while he certainly didn't get Keanu Reeves's acting career, I don't think he's exactly begging in the streets or anything.

Having Rufus dead just adds to Bill and Ted's low point. You can say the future has changed and they blew it. Hey, if Van Halen can reunite and put out a new album almost 30 years later, Bill and Ted can make a comeback too.
-
Because it cant be done. Let Rufus RIP....besides,I think one of the main jokes of the movie is that Bill and Ted have gotten old and still not achieved their destiny...maybe htey have to go back in time and become their own mentors? Or pass the torch to Bill and Ted Jr.? Either way,the Rufus character doesnt need to be replaced with some flavor of the month comedian.

by Cobb05
You need someone from the future to show up in the phone booth to tell bill and ted what they need to do. So they have to recast rufus, which would suck, or introduce a new character.
-
Cast Lewis Black as his brother or something. That I could see. The first movie came out just as I started playing and turning into a musician, so it means a lot to me. I only like the first movie. B

So what's the play here? According to their ages they should already the peace-giving rock gods they were predicted to be...
by Dogmatic
but obviously that doesn't make for good cinema and it would de-personalize it too much....so perhaps they are adults (with wife and kids??) and none of that predicted stuff happend and they are wondering why and indeed determine that Nickelback killed rock n roll and must destroy them to fulfill their future destiny.
-
if Nickelback are the villains. this story must be told!
-
Death was the best thing about Bogus Journey? Really? The whole "he's in the band too" thing and his little rap {you may be a king or a streetsweeper but sooner or later you dance with the reaper! get down with your bad self" and all that bullshit? That's funny? Cause it wasn't funny to me when I saw it in the theater about 20 some odd years ago and it's still not funny today. Sorry but uttering "get down with your bad self" in any form and at any time is like your grandmother saying "Would you like some ice cream? NOT!!! Hahahahah!" - its not funny. Yes, the contest with Death is hilarious ("Best of seven?") and even some of the later stuff but as soon as they took Death out of the afterlife, it just went down hill story-wise. To me the best thing about the movie character-wise was Evil Bill and Evil Ted. Absolutely made the movie for me and utterly worth the ticket/disc price. Almost everything they say or do I find funny. Plus all of their lines are highly quotable to this day (especially Alex Winter's lines): "You see...we used to be pussweeds but now we're metal!!! So get over here and put out!!!" (one of my favorite lines ever of any movie!) Everything from about the start of the third act on is mainly slapstick stupid...with the exception of Evil B&T of course. And yes, the future day-glo foam outfits and design was complete ASS compared to the likely much cheaper version they did in B&T-EA (with Clarence Clemmons, etc). Oh and the Wyld Stallions song that they play and was heard at the end of Bogus Journey is "God Gave Rock N Roll to You" cover (actually performed by Kiss) during the "Battle of the Bands". Tough call there - what song do you use for the greatest band in all of time who also saved the universe and everything? I don't know but surely not a schmaltzy-ballad Kiss cover song?
-
Death was the single funniest thing in Bogus Journey. The funniest bits were in Hell, especially where Bill and Ted kept challenging him in games like Clue. I was laughing my ass off at that.
-
It's the in thing now to hate on Nickelback. While I admit that Chad Kroeger may well be a D-bag, their music is pretty good.
-
DAMN RIGHT!!
-
Death was indeed hilarious...*before* they left the afterlife/hell/heaven. That's why I called it 'after they left the afterlife' it went downhill in my post. It's not even that much in the way of film, barely 30 minutes I think but it hams it up in such a self-aware manner that it tends to grate on my nerves...and yet one of my all-time favorite lines of dialogue occurs maybe 30 minutes earlier! It's not terrible at the end, just a different form of humor that didn't work for me when everything else did for the most part. Either way, tis all opinion natch!

The only thing I didnt like about "Bogus" was Death and Station being in the band.
by vetepalapinga
Other than that, I actually like that movie more than "Excellent Adventure". Challenging Death with the board games, Ted possessing his dad, and Denomolos saying "fools"!! makes a classic in my eyes.
-

...and NO- Wyld Stalyns are NOT playing the Kiss song at the end.
by vetepalapinga
That's what they play OVER what Bill & Ted are actually playing. Watch the movie again, you cunts.
-
I loved the orginal Bill & Ted, the second one was JUST ok, so I am hoping a thrid installment will be most excellent! I think they should have a storyline where a Nickelback-like group...(Actually HAVE Nickelback the band playing the part too) are actually evil transdimensional Aliens or Robots in Human disguise...sent back from the future time to wreck total harmony with the Rock scene, they succeed and we all left with the crappy music scene of today. Bill & Ted are contacted by one of Rufus' agents from the future (I am thinking a REALLY hot-looking Rosie Huntington Whitely or Kate Upton or maybe even Kate Beckensdale?) who tells them what has really happened and that it is up to them to set things right, save the World and totally Party ON, Dude! Just a thought.....
-
They were playing Kiss over Wyld Stalyns, BUT the song God Gave Rock and Roll to you is from the early 70's by I believe Argent? - I'm too lazy to look it up. I believe Macchio was stating that, although I could see the confusion. I gave DM the benefit of the doubt.
-
Hehehe...you are right in that they are not shown singing the song or otherwise matching the song all the way through but when it first begins with the twin-harmony guitar intro - it most definitely DOES lead into the song itself and the movie carries the scene as if they're playing it..the drums, keyboards, etc, etc...all goes directly into the song and then it stops some small amount of time after the drums kick in and Paul Stanley starts singing and they don't match the song at all from then on... But all the people shown dancing and swaying, like when they show William Sadler, sans Death costume, as an Englishman with his family in those cuts, are dancing to that song along with the Italian soccer fans watching after the game is interrupted by Nomolos, etc, etc... So it's kinda implied that's their song but then they don't really commit to it either... And whaddya know - I didn't even call you a name to argue my point! Haha!
-
