The only good Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is a dead Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

My space-themed trilogy of images comes to a close with Mr. Paul Verhoeven nonchalantly stepping over bloody bits of human carnage on the set of Starship Troopers.

True story, I took my little brother and his friend to see this film when it came out. I wasn’t 17 yet and he and his friend were around the 6-7 year old range. My mom was always cool with us seeing R-rated material. I bought our tickets no problem, but while standing in line the manager noticed us and told us we couldn’t see the movie without a parent with us. I called my mom, put her on the phone with this guy and he still said he wouldn’t let us in unless she proved to be our real guardian.

So, she drove all the way to the theater and proved herself, then kind of tore this dude a new one when he pretty much called her a bad parent for letting us watch R-rated movies. That was a total “go mom!” moment.

I understand most young kids aren’t built to handle these kinds of movies, but I was either an awesome big brother or a horrible one because I conditioned my little brother at a young age with scary movies and he had seen far worse than Starship Troopers by that age. It’s not so much about exposure to horror, but putting a context around them as stories.

Anyway, that’s my personal Starship Troopers story. I loved the film then and it has only grown in my estimation as the years pass. Fun, crazy, satirical… It’s what Paul Verhoeven does best.
