I have yet to watch the last RAMBO.
-
...yes please. What he says in the interview IS pretty provocative. I loved loved love 4. A great movie with a great ending. But like Sly said before Rambo isn't an athlete, he's a mercenary. Why should he retire? I like the idea of him kicking back, taking a deserved break. But then the wrong type of guy rubs his rhubarb the wrong type of way, and he has to defend what's right once more. And maybe he gets in over his head. You can have all the training in the world but if you're in a place you don't know and the bad guys do. Yeah, I'm ready for Rambo 5. Make it so, Sly. I got my money for the cinema ticket and blu-ray right here :)

Kill OFF Rambo??? NO! That's not even REALISTIC...I mean...
by Dogmatic
If the whole Oregon National Guard, an NVA camp and Russian Spetnaz squad, Russian Afghan Special Forces, and Burmese National Army couldn't take him out we are supposed to buy that some Mexican Cartel is gonna kill him?! PLEASE...
-
I wish Hollywood would know when to stop a franchise using the narrative arc of the previous films instead of looking at the balance sheet. John Rambo went home at the end of the last film... that was ultimately the story of the character: a man who desperately wanted to go home, but couldn't because the state (US government) was not ready to bring him back or the nation (citizens) were not ready to bring him back, or the soldier's own psychology was not ready to go back (Rambo himself). The last shot of the last film shows Rambo at peace with himself and ready to reenter American society and with that, the story is over. Besides, other than some well choreographed action scenes punctuated with gore, there was not a lot to the last film. The first film in the series was well made, the others are a mixed bag that often have more in common with GI Joe than the original First Blood source material.
-
is genius.
-
He could team up with Machete and Once Upon a Time in Mexico's Agent Sands (who navigates with some kind of freaky sonar sunglasses since he's blind) and lay waste to those fuckers.
-
Carter- john j?
-
And he can talk. Rambo is me before coffee in the morning. Rocky is me after coffee.

He just want to take a crap.

Anyone REALLY looking to not have the next Rambo movie spoiled?
by tim hager
Fine, spoiler alert: It will suck.
-
He always surprises me in some way. Good stuff.
-
Rambo 5 would be PG-13 (or even PG). In this episode Rambo is tortured by his past, and convinced that the way to go is the diplomatic way. so he cleans up and goes to college to get a degree in international law. ohh what fun! FUCK YOU SLY. FUCK YOU AND YOUR PG-13 SPENDABLES 2.
-
Arrriba, Arrriba

awesome headline....heh....can see him now...cerveza in hand...burro in tow....cracks the bottle o' beer with his faithful survival bowie knife while looking over his shoulder at the camera....zoom out and he's pissing on the mexican flag. and scene.

Stallone came off really well, and Brian D. Johnson is one of the best and most knowledgeable film critics out there.

He's been talking about Rambo in Mexico since Rambo IV came out
by rev_skarekroe
It's supposed to deal with human trafficking or some such. Better than the Rambo vs. Universal Soldier idea they were playing with for awhile, that's for sure.
-
and I have really enjoyed his interviews. I loved Rocky Balboa and really appreciated what Stallone did with the character. As to the fifth and final Rambo, I am okay with the decision. As legendary as the character is, I think he is meant to go out in a blaze of glory and if handled right, it will be heartfelt and powerful. Thanks for being awesome, Sly.
-
...include a plotline where the US government is moving guns into Mexico to catch dirty US gun-sellers and that, ultimately, the cartels are being armed by a Democratic White House in an attempt to create a reason to gut your 2nd amendment rights.... You know? Forget about it. That's just too crazy. Nobody would ever believe it.
-
Great to hear Sly's still interested in making more Rambo sequels. I know he'd suggested letting the series end with Rambo 4, but there's still a lot of potential left in the character. And as Sly points out in the interview, it's not like the current state of Hollywood can afford to lose such a great action hero.
-

Rambo 4 had an excellent set-up, but a really weak climax.
by pizzatheface
With all those smack-talking mercenaries, why couldn't they all be picked off one-by-one Predator-style with the old man being the last man standing. Instead, Rambo just mounts a .50 cal. Better yet, why not Rambo vs. Predator?
-
March 8, 2012, 1:05 p.m. CST
But isn't his ne BFF Arnie already doing a I hate Mezicans movie?...
by donkingkong
Rambo vs. some gnarly-narco-mexican-gangsters would be a sick way for him to go out. As a kid of the 80's Sly, Arnie, Chuck were like the holy trinity to me, 12 year old me says it'll be all sorts of bad-ass to see em together in Expendables 2!
-
It seems with Gibson's lastest Get the Gringo, Arnold's Last Stand, and now this Rambo 5, the old 80's stars have figured that mexo-phobia is the way to go.
-
FUCK YEAH! Don't get me wrong I love the character, but Rambo was born to die. He'll never have a complete arc without it.
-
I think it was called Rambo: The Hunted. Not LITERALLY the Predator, but some genetic monster thingee. Thank God he wised up and decided against it. Personally I think we had a lot to do with that.
-
It could have been interesting.
-
As a kid my room walls were covered in Sly posters. It was his guts, his passion, his heart which completely won me over as a young boy. And he's always been very humble and polite. Something more Hollywood stars should emulate.
-
He could give two shits for ANY government or politician. Waht, were you fucking ASLEEP during all the Rambo films?
-
...a sequel to Nighthawks. I love that moview and don't really understand why hardly anyone seems to have seen it.
-
I hope it's a good script. Only stinking reviews would keep me from going.
-
STILL WAITING for the fucking Blu-ray.
-
Love the idea of another Rambo. I even was pumped for that Rambo vs. alien invader rumor I heard. Why didn't the ever do another Night Hawks?
-

Why don't they ever ask him about Party at Kitty and Stud's?
by StanGrossman
(For those not familiar, that's the porno he did before he was famous.) Seriously. The guy seems to have a sense of humor and he doesn't mind relflecting on the past. I'd be curious what he has to say about that one all these years later.
-
I'd go for that one. Maybe they could finally put in the shoot-out in the end uncut, and add back that Rolling Stones song during the club scene too.
-

I'm still bummed out that AICN talkbacks killed the Rambo vs. Hunter monster
by Al
I read the book Hunter, it was pretty cool. Genetically engineered man-monster rips the bejesus outta a research outpost & Rambo-like character sent in to clean it out along with special ops team. I dug it. I wanna see Rambo fight monsters men, it'd be nifty.
-
I'm sure that speaks for itself. -Namaste-

by MooseMalloy
-
Sly was still going to do the Hunter story @ some point but just as is - and it wasn't going to be modified into a Rambo story.
-
On the one hand there's no shortage of bastards in the world for Rambo to take out, and I for one enjoy watching him do it, but on the other hand there was something so perfect at the end of the last movie when he's made his way back home to Arizona and his father's farm. He stops and looks back the way he came, as if considering whether to turn around, and just smiles and starts walking toward the house. Rambo was finally at peace and had come home. It was such a perfect end to the series -- even better than Rocky Balboa's -- so I would hate to spoil that. But then again... Rambo fucking up Mexican drug cartels... Damn...
-
I guess nobody wants to remember the Muhjahadeen were our friends in the 1980s, fully funded by the CIA and supported by Rambo. People see that, they may start asking questions about our countries 'official' interpretation of recent historical events. Cannot have that. A well informed population is a dangerous thing to the super elite who call the shots... Especially considering that the Muhjahadeen are now known as al-Queda.
-
This is getting tiresome. You guys really think the only people who resisted the Soviets were the Taliban? You people have obviously forgotten that one of the greatest Mujahedin leaders, Mahsood, who first fought the Soviets and THEN fought the Taliban for years, tried to warn America about Al Qaeda and their plans. He was assassinated by Al Qaeda a few days before 9-11. The Taliban were only one group of many who fought the Soviets. There is nothing in Rambo 3 that indicates that the group Rambo is fighting alongside is Taliban. None of the women are wearing burqas and some of the men are beardless, a big Taliban no-no. Rambo movies may be frivolous fiction but a little knowledge of 20th Century history goes a long way to making some of these movies more enjoyable.

The best one was where Rambo fought alongside the Taliban (who were then referred to as "freedom fighters" instead of terrorists) to repel the Soviets.

The new head of Rambo's retirement home turns out the be the former POW camp commander that tortured Rambo in Nam. Rambo tells people, but no one believes him; believing him to be senile. Meanwhile, the man wants Rambo silenced before his identity as a war criminal is exposed. It's up to Rambo and the other old folks he enlists to take out the Vietnamese and escape the crooked retirement home. Hire me, Hollywood.

by TopHat
The "1%" is not what is threatening our freedom - its illegal MEXICANS!! THEY are not who the brave drafted soldiers of Vietnam were fighting for! We must protect our country from these abominations! John Rambo will guide us! HE will show us what its like to be a caring, hard-working American ...when he's kicking illegal immigrants ASSES!! Coming over here uninvited, bringing your drugs and alcohol, RUINING the pristine, perfect suburbs of the United States of America?? NOT ON HIS WATCH.
-
I'd rather see a story that fleshes out Rambo's past that was talked about in First Blood. I mean who was this special force unit that he was a part of? Does it still exist? Did Trautman have a successor? I'd like to see that aspect explored a little more than another episode of a softspoken Rambo helping people out just because he can.

I thought of the same thing......as I'm sure others fans have. Sly if you read these TB's make this a top priority and lend your voice and talents to the game. Either a Nam era prequel or perhaps a fresh new story that fits somewhere in the Rambo canon.

by JackSlater4
-
March 8, 2012, 7:52 p.m. CST
I still think a Rambo prequel framed by a post-Rambo 4 narrative...
by NeoDevilbaneX
... is the way to go. This way you get some sequel elements, you keep Stallone (who could narrate the prequel sequences), and still get a potentially kick-ass Young Rambo in Vietnam core.
-
March 8, 2012, 7:59 p.m. CST
And I still think people completely misinterpreted what Stallone was talking about previously about Rambo 5...
by NeoDevilbaneX
... if you look close enough in what he was saying, it seemed that it was going to be a Jeckyll & Hyde type of story. The big reveal would be that there was no monster at all... just Rambo going into Rambo mode and then blocking it out of his memory. He would be his own enemy.
-
That would'e sucked big time.

Also: Why intentionally alienate the enormous Mexican filmgoing/home video audience?
by Doctor_Strangepork
English language action movies are generally embraced by non-English speaking audiences because the action IS the story and if you can follow the action you can follow the story. Mr. Stallone, we at AICN genuinely like you, appreciate your presence here and love to cheer you on. But we also love the many, hot, hot women of Mexico. Please, don't make us choose.
-
Just in case.
-
March 9, 2012, 1:55 a.m. CST
So one of the most iconic badasses of all time recognized and celebrated all over the world as a symbol of American toughness and devoted patriotism will now be reduced to a racist Mexican Hater?
by Cali
I understand he's a fictional character and written to be an unstable vet but man, as kids we proudly played with his action figures and ran around proudly shooting his water guns wanting to be just like him in the cartoon. He was a Hero to us and in ways made us proud to be American. Stallone's comment and AICN's headline is pretty harsh. He didn't say "I don't think he likes illegals" or "the cartel" he straight up said "I don't think Rambo likes Mexicans". Sure slaughtering the Cartel is a good angle and would please so many middle class closet racists to see Rambo kill off the disgusting brown gangsters that are making a killing ultimately supplying illegal drugs to their spoon fed hipster kids but what's next, Wolverine hates blacks and goes on a gang bang war?
-

Has not watched First Blood in a VERY long time. He's a shellshocked Native American war veteran and torture victim, who spends most of the movie fighting against the police and the national guard. by IronEagle74
Oh, and there's nothing wrong with that. I know most people who post here seem to think it's not cool to say anything positive about Republicans, but the fact of the matter is that very little separates them from Democrats. Mexicans are not a Race of their own, morons, no matter what La Raza would lead you to believe ...
by Vince Ricardo
... they're Caucasian. You lighter-skinned Caucasians that are constantly "standing up for us" (and I say "us" in that I'm Hispanic by ETHNICITY, American by birth) by shouting out "Racist" left and right just sound stupid. A) We don't need your help, we can do fine on our own and B) Again, you're morons. I don't know why you do it, perhaps it's a misplaced guilt complex or something similar, but every time I hear some non-minority scream out in righteous indignation over some perceived slur against minorities you're just sayin' "Um, yeah, I got your back because you're just not intelligent or able enough to do it on your own." Jackasses. Do you think ALL Colombians loved the drug cartels back in the 80s and 90s (or now, though they have far less power)? Well, do you think ALL Mexicans love their drug cartels now? So, yeah, there are some Mexicans that hate Mexicans. Hell, the drug cartels themselves couldn't care less for their fellow Mexicans. Ignorant A-holes. Jeez.
