This has to win the award for most unlikely Woody Allen vehicle - according to Variety Allen has signed up for indie comedy FADING GIGOLO, with director and co-star John Turturro. The premise sounds awesome - two broke Jewish men, both best friends, try to earn some money by entering the gigolo business, with Turturro being the sex worker and Allen being his pimp. But things start to go badly for them both when Turturro falls in love with one of his clients, a Jewish widow, and the Hasidic Jewish neighborhood begins to become suspicious of the friends' activities.
Seeing Woody Allen rolling in pimp gear alone will be worth the price of admission. I like John Turturro as a director - he's made some interesting, odd films - and the fact that Woody is acting and not writing or directing says a lot about his faith in Turturro and the project. Sofia Vergara and Sharon Stone will also co-star in the movie, and with a wonderful cast like that, with the Woodster playing one of the most unlikeliest roles of his career, and John "No one fucks with the Jesus" Turturro as a male prostitute... honestly, I have no idea how this will turn out, but I'll be there to see it regardless.
