Whoa!! BILL & TED 3 A Teeny-Weeney Tad Closer, Maybe??

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been mulling a third installment of BILL & TED for a long time now. A while back, they set about developing a script (details HERE). In THIS piece in The Independent, Reeves discusses the status of their effort....
I ask him about the long-rumoured third outing for Bill S Preston and Ted Theodore Logan – the time-travelling, guitar-rockin' duo that earned Reeves cult status when he starred in 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? "Yeah, we have a script," he confirms. "We're trying to put it together. It's a good script too."
This sentiment is mirrored by Alex Winter on his Twitter feed, where he responded to one follower with...
“@kelly_carlin: is it true? Bill & Ted's 3?” > Hey Kelly. -Script done? Check. -We love it? Check. -Green light? Working on it!
The script they're discussing, by the way, is from Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon - the geniuses behind the first two pictures in the franchise.

they could do a mixture of both concepts from the films taking inspiration from south park, rounding up all the religious deities and figures through time (jesus, muhammad, moses, shiva, buddha, etc) and have them fight off a massive alien invasion. but even as im typing this im realizing that Bogus Journey took things to such a maximum level i just don't see how it would be possible.

These are characters worth revisiting. Too bad Carlin is no longer with us. On an unrelated note, is that Muldoon guy still with AICN?? I really dug those WTF Hollywoods. Doctor Detroit anyone? Anyone?

...the deleted scenes and alternate endings included. For those not in the know, both bogus journey and excellent adventure had deleted scenes and alternate endings. Exellent adventures deleted scenes interest me in particular because they seem to change the tone of the movie quite a bit. Stuff cut from that movie includes scenes revealing bill and ted to be the unpopular guys the school who get dissed by cheerleaders and the original ending where bill and ted take the medieval babes to the prom. If these scenes show up on dvd , i can cross the off my annoyingly long list of "deleted scenes from childhood movies that havent been released yet " list. Fingers crossed.

Of course, I'm not quite sure how you'd work Bill & Ted 3 when the ending of Bogus Journey shows how they went on to save the world. On the flip side, it's time travel. It's an easy out.

Scott Pilgrim and Spaced offer ample evidence that he'd be perfectly suited to the material. Plus, maybe he could cast Simon Pegg as Rufus 2.0 (a new robotic shell containing the mind of George Carlin), although the suggestion above of Bill & Ted mentoring the young Rufus via time travel is pretty inspired.

the TBers who come on and post something like "ugh who gives a shit", surrounded by ten - twenty other commenters who obviously give a shit. I'm down. I loved the script idea they discussed a while ago, where Bill and Ted are now just lame middle-aged dudes who haven't fulfilled their potential and they decide to change it. And yes, if not Alex Winter himself, the only acceptable choice is Edgar Wright.
