New PARANORMAN trailer just makes the wait hurt more, like when I got off the bottle...

Hey folks, Harry here...   It is true - I have a wicked sweet spot for stop-motion animation feature entertainment.    There were lean years there aplenty in the dark times...  when stop-motion was seeming like a dying art.   Now it flourishes...   And PARANORMAN is something I literally can't see soon enough.   This is currently the film that Yoko most wants to see, and I'm right there.   That first trailer's toilet paper mummies scared the bejeebus out of me.   In that, imagining that imagery hitting you were you were a little kid, kind of way.    This looks so fun.  Check out the trailer, what'd you think?

  • You know; Rudolph, Santa Claus coming to town, Shiny New Year, Christmas in July...I think I recall an Easter Bunny one in there somewhere. Now, with the modern rennesance (fuck you little red line under the word, I know I spelled it wrong) in stop motion, its all about the junior horror. Nightmare Before XMas, Corpse Bride, Corroline, Frankenweenie, and now ParaNorman. I wonder why that is. As a kid, I never felt the need to see Sam the Snowman popping slugs into zombies with a shotgun, or have Big Ben drag Happy the baby New Year under the waters a la the Kitner boy in Jaws. Ah well. If that's the way it has to be, I'm fine with it. So far, the above list has been a great line up, and ParaNorman looks like a blast. Corraline, despite being a kids movie, was about the creepiest thing I had watched since The Ring. Keep up the renescance. rennasanse. renisanse. renaissance. There it is. Renaissance.

One trick pony Burton could learn a thing or two

    by borisdoris

Burtons oh so old and samey film with get all the attention but this shows Burton that tonal variance can still be inventively creepy. Looks great.

  • Some early screenings going on here in uk, and i guess everywhere at the moment as reviews are popping up everywhere now. I wasn't meant to be at mine so i'll save anyone getting in trouble! lol Much like I was expecting, maybe a little better, the beginnings at bit Cowboys and Aliens, the CGI and aliens are great - but i think we've come to expect that as a norm these days - if you know about the books it'll all make sense but anyone now a JCoM fan will be as puzzled as i was at some parts. All the early stuff in the tribes village is fun, though i kept expecting Defoes cahracter to say 'Jump Ja Ja!' all the time for some reason. That's the problem for me with this movie. i just kept thinking 'oh this is like star wars, oh that's like Avatar.' Even though JC came first, everyone's beaten him to the box office. Not much action in the movie, despte all the excitement in the trailer - the trailer pretty much sums up most of the action - the film seems too keen to 'set things up' for the inevitable sequels, if you liked the slow pace of Harry Potter and the deathly hallows pt1 you'll not mnd this, but it does get a bit dull in parts and very dull in others. The little Thark/Therk? Bulldog thing is cute though and funny. Lynn Collins is.....well sexy as hell quite frankly and if they get round to making Wonder Woman...there you go. So basically JC is no LotR by far, not even Avatar, but it's fun in parts. But it's a lot better than the Star Wars prequels, so if you like those you'll love this. I'd give it overall 7/10, the SFX and voice acting - and Lynns ridonkulos sexiness parry the dull, 'we're setting it all up for a sequel' theme of the movie. But it's just my opinion, some will like it more, some will like it less, there it is.

I just have never been able to get in the 'Suck off Gaiman' line, and Coraline was .... OK.. but nothing particularly memorable or noteworthy. But this one looks a lot better to me, so we'll see.

Came close to leaving a "learn to spell" post (Harry's infamous). Instead, I must be getting dyslexia. I clicked on the trailer just to see what the hell it was... Glad I'm not the only one! Although "Panorama Man" couldn't be any more lame than "Ghost Rider". We'll get Cage to do the voice work.

  • March 2, 2012, 10:25 a.m. CST

Please stop bitching about Quicktime. It just makes you look stupid.

    by gary_buseys_upper_half

We get it - you bought a shitty Windows 'puter from Rent-A-Center that can't run anything more complicated than minesweeper without barfing blue screens all over the the place. You have 3 easy legitimate options. 1. As mentioned earlier, download something like VLC that won't be so rough on your Microsoft calculator. 2. Find the trailer on youtube. 3. Buy a computer with OSx. Quicktime is preinstalled and works flawlessly.

  • March 2, 2012, 10:34 a.m. CST

I enjoyed the trailer more than the piece of shit movie. Not really sure why I went in the first place...ahhh, Natalie Portman just gets me hot I suppose

Why do people hate quicktime so much?

    by slicer

I guess they don't like quick loading, crystal clear smooth moving video. Either that, or they are PC users, ha ha haaa....

    How is Quicktime that complicated

    by Larry Sellers

How old is your PC exactly that it just CAN'T run Quicktime smoothly??? I'm using Vista and the trailer started immediately. I've never gotten on that pithy PC vs Mac bandwagon, but what the fuck does it matter as long as you can watch porn and post on TBs simultaneously without issue??

  • March 2, 2012, 1:22 p.m. CST

Please note that I did not mock PC users.

    by Royston Lodge

I use Windows and Linux. I agree that Apple's Quicktime player is somewhat bloated and can run incredibly slowly, even on good machines. However, the same can EASILY be said about Windows Media Player. That's precisely why I use VLC. Exclusively. Heck, I think it's a decent rule of thumb to never use the software that came with your computer. It's not written by people who have your best interest at heart.

  • March 2, 2012, 3:54 p.m. CST

    Burton- you have been usurped.

your style and charm have been watered down to the point of becoming a weak, cold tea. meanwhile, whether they were inspired by your initial talents or simply tapped into their own style of creep and cuteness, other artists and filmmakers have evolved and perfected the look and tone you once showed promise and love for of in your day. but i'll say it- Burton is dead. take frankenweenie- his latest effort and hopeful return to form- and hold it up along side just this trailer. the winner is clear. ParaNorman has all the scare and heart that Burton no longer does, if he ever had this much. as much as I'd love to see a 2nd beetlejuice, I can't imagine it'd be a third of the style, humor, visuals and craft that movie will have.

  • March 2, 2012, 3:55 p.m. CST

also, we keep reading it as PANORAMAMAN because AICN loves ALLCAPS.

they should be typing it ParaNorman, like the poster.

This trailer keeps my expectations low. I'm talking sewage level. Let's leave the toilet humor to movies devoted to the subject so the rest of us don't have to suffer through it when we're looking for QUALITY entertainment.

this actually looks REALLY good!, I'm not going to dismiss story or gags because of visuals, but they seem to work really well together here. It's like Monster Squad meets The Frighteners meets 6th Sense meets Dawn of the Dead for Kids! Doesn't mean that it will necessarily be good, but hey, the second trailer doesn't disappoint.
