Does FRANKENWEENIE's Teaser Trailer Show A Return To Old Form For Tim Burton?

The Kidd here...

Tim Burton has hardly been a beacon of quality as of late. In fact, relying on his name and the previous successes associated with it, Burton has resorted to making films that often come across as clichés of the films we remember him fondly for that there's usually anything but groaning when we find out he is attached to a project. "Is Johnny Depp going to be in this one, too?"

Going back to his roots, Burton has done a remake of his 1984 short film FRANKENWEENIE, this time expanded to feature length, and now we have a teaser trailer (courtesy of Yahoo!) to see if what we're getting is the Burton of old or the one who made ALICE IN WONDERLAND dull.

This looks like early Burton, right along the strange lines of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and ED WOOD. It feels right in line with his previous animated efforts - THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and CORPSE BRIDE - only this time the animation is a lot smoother. Maybe now that Burton is getting back to something that truly matters to him, we'll get his best once more.

FRANKENWEENIE opens in theatres on October 5.
