Give The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day some sugar, baby.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Yes, we love the gore, the crazy camera work and sense of humor of the Evil Dead films, but the real reason we horror nerds are clamoring for Evil Dead 4 is because of the pairing of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Those two are magic together. Every director has his perfect leading man. Quentin Tarantino has Samuel L. Jackson, John Ford had John Wayne and Sam Raimi has Bruce Campbell.
Sam has made great films without Campbell as the lead, but there’s something special about the chemistry between those two, some quality that perfectly jibes together.
Case in point, today’s picture from the set of Army of Darkness where Sam Raimi uses a skeleton hand to torment Bruce Campbell. On a normal set that would have been an effects guy or whichever crew member happened to be standing around when they were setting up this shot, but not Mr. Raimi. He’d never pass up a chance to pull Campbell’s hair, poke him in the eye or cause him any amount of discomfort.
Thanks to the Practical Effects Group for this one! Click to slightly embiggen!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic pays tribute to the late Davey Jones as he meets… well, someone rather cool.

So quotable this movie. 'Maybe we can win. Maybe my guys can take'em. Maybe I"m a Chinese Jet Pilot'.
-
No where near the greatness of Evil Dead II.
-
caht get enough of those Raimi/Campbell pics.

@QUINT can we have some John Woo OR Bruce Lee BTS pics please?
by killik
preferably from Hard Boiled or The Killer or Enter the Dragon or The Death Game (the incomplete one with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) ?
if i am not mistaken you have never post pics from the asian cinema with the exception of some Kurosawa ones. But that's only the Japanese cinema. How about the Hong Kong cinema though?
PLEASE QUINT MAKE IT SO. -
drag the chained and naked sex-slaves girls.
In ED1 we have the tree-rape,in AOD we have this,Sam Raimi has a dirty,pervert mind,doesnt he? -

Unfortunately AOD was supposed to be the movie that would have
by killik
turn Bruce Campbell into a movie star (Raimi had said that he was going to be big) but alas it flopped and permanently sent Bruce into the b-movie realm.shame.
-
when I saw this, but then I was hoping for a horror film. Now I feel this was such a fun film to watch and is one of the classic B movies of the 90s. Bruce could still make another, but Raimi has moved on sadly.

This scene would have worked so much better if only they had CGI'd it!!!

because i was too expecting a horror film like ED2.But with repeated viewing,it grew in me and i finally accepted if for what it was: a great action/ slapstick b-movie set in the medieval times.i love it.

Don't be so sure. Drag Me To Hell felt like it existed in an Evil Dead-ish universe.
-
I don't mind the fact that they're remaking/rebooting Evil Dead... especially since Ash isn't in it. I'm hoping it could just be considered a story of other people at the cabin that exists in the same universe, but doesn't try to make us forget about the other movies. So, since they're remaking Evil Dead... I keep hoping that Sam Rami still returns to Ash's story. He can just continue it under the Army of Darkness name instead!
-
I also felt like Drag Me To Hell existed in the Evil Dead universe... When I was watching it, I kept hoping that Bruce Campbell would show up for a cameo. It would have been great if Ash showed up during the seance scene or something like that!
-
Evil Dead movies......Bruce Campbell.......Never equalled.
I believe that crazy thin guy would call that a fact! -
... Wes Anderson aparently has Bill Murray now.
-
If so, I gotta feeling if it makes sweet bank then another sequel would be in the works with Raimi. Am I wrong about this? My "Evil Dead" knowledge is VERY limited.

I didn't know where to post this... Sorry.
Wired Magazine/website has recently published an excerpt from a book called *Tales from Development Hell*.
It's an awesome excerpt, and I'm sure all you great guys/gals will be clamoring for this book.
Once again, sorry to bust up this thread- but I didn't know how else to spread this news. I'm also sorry if this is somehow old news...
Cheers!
(And, Yes! Yet another heroically great BTS pic from Quint- my #1 reason to visit this site- from an eminently re-watchable flick!)
(And, No! I'm not a plant for the publisher- I'm a long-time visitor who's too shy and not witty enough to post very often.) -
next time: Just don't post it!
-
Most people who post on this site aren't witty either. So post away!!!
-
Might be giving away some copies of that very book. I'm fascinated by projects that never happened and have been toying with a column devoted to them for years.
-
That kind of column would be interesting. Why didn't you do it?
-
thanx for ignoring me.

in the scene where Ash is burying Bad Ash.

All time fav.

I sent a great BTS pic from Johnnie To's VENGEANCE last year. Has yet to be used.:(

He's RICIST! Er, wait...

I watched this again recently since I first saw it upon release. The guys at work raved on enough about it to spark my curiosity but I remember when I originally saw it I was disappointed.
After watching it again I have to say I still don't get the love for it. It's just a bit too hammy and cartoony. It's silly humour not witty humour and was a very strange choice to take a great horror franchise and go down the comedy route. I give credit for being brave and trying something new but - well - for me at least - the sum total just didn't work. The funniest line is from I think the alternate ending when he stumbles out of the cave an comments on his appreciation for manufactured products.
Bruce was good in the first two but after playing this he got stuck in that same character in everything else he has done since. Too Jim Carry'ish.
Lines like - I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL! - Please! -

And Brucie COMPLETELY rocked as The King in "Bubba Ho-tep"

Plenty of franchises over in Marvel to hand out and hope Sam gets one. I'm a big fan of the first two Spider-Man movies and watched the Evil Dead stuff because of it. Always thought Bruce could pull off a cool version of Doctor Strange.

Right now I'm watching a DVD which just arrived in the mail from amazon
by bobo_vision
It's Wisdom, directed and starring Emilio Estevez. Watched this movie about 30 times when I was a teenager. Those Sheen brothers have talent. Can't wait for the Roman Coppola film starring Charlie Sheen.
BTW, this should BTS photo should clear up the question someone had about the Darkman BTS photo about whether or not Sam Raimi started dressing up in a shirt or tie before or after he hit the big time. -

Okay, then...
-
obijuanmartinez .... I doubt if you'll even notice this....like most people with those behind the scenes extras on a DVD.....but I just watched that movie "Buba-Hotep" for the first time a couple of weeks ago...and I have to agree with you.
-
given us so many great one liners?

Got a few Bruce Lee pics that aren't in the best of quality. I have a good 200 pictures that are great, but are either super fuzzy or too small that I'm holding out on, trying to get a higher res version.
I did run a John Woo pic (complete with dove, I believe) 5 or 6 months ago.
Django, I remember that pic, but couldn't find it in my files. Could you resend? I'll definitely use it. -

ah yes you are correct, now i remember, sorry my bad.
ok then,we will wait for the Bruce Lee.The Master needs his AICN talkback too. -
I read that excerpt on a blog yesterday and immediately purchased Tales From Development Hell for my kindle. I'm four chapters in, and it is absolutely fascinating and a must read for anyone interested in film.
While we're on the topic of film books, The Hollywood Economist is another must read for anyone who wants to work in or has any interest in movies. Really fun quick read that puts things like budgets and profits and the ever legendary "Hollywood accounting" practices into context. -
Srsly. I'd read the crap out of it.
-
Aside from Fiona's choice of wardrobe, although a man could cut himself on her cheekbones in a clinch I'd say.
Oh, and worst Irish accent ever from her, or at least it would have been until I heard her co-stars in the ep where Michael had to re-assume his Irish identity...
Good thing he joined an IRA cell of deaf dissidents then! -
Link's broken but here ya go.
You're welcome.
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46469 -
...I mean the picture is not shown. The link I posted to does work.
Sorry for the confusion. -
Just kidding, but there were two AOD endings - one for the US and one for the rest of the world.
The US got the S-Mart version and in the UK we got the version where Ash slept through the apocalypse.
So by rights, a US ED4 should be like "Shaun of the Dead" but funnier/gorier and a UK ED4 should be like "Mad Max" with Deadites. -

They are large, in focus and definitely Behind The Scenes. The only thing they lack is an easily recognizable actor or director. But they are from a day when models were big, insanely detailed and took a small army to move from the shop they were built in to the stage.
But with a 200 picture backlog, I understand it may be a while before they go online.
And my guess is that tomorrow pic shows Jones with either John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix. -
First you wanna kill me, now you wanna kiss me. Blow.
Hehehe so many fun lines. -
Army of Darkness is made great by the little things like this.
-

Raimi and the use of Introvision....Introvision was a front projection process
by openthepodbaydoorshal
that could be viewed through the viewfinder, as it would appear onscreen. Raimi used it in Darkman and Army Of Darkness (is that a projected cemetary in the background?). It was also used to great effect in Outland and The Fugitive. CGI pretty much killed it though.
-
Utter shit
-
You're not going to change anyone's mind about Army of Darkness. It's a beloved film.
-
Thank you.
-
so you cant compare it with the other two movies. In fact all three ED flicks are quite different in their tone, only Raimi's energetic style remains the same.ED movies go like this:
ED1 - more horror,less comedy
ED2 - equally horror and comedy
AOD - more comedy,less horror
and
ED Remake - A PIECE OF SHIT. -

I've come to realize that I've probably seen AOD more times than any other film.
by djangoilbastardo
Once in the theater, on release night and later after it hit video, every Friday night for the last 90 min of my shift @ the video store where I used to work years back. And probably 3-4 times a year since then. Doubt it'd be on my top 10, or even top 20 movie list, but it's tops on my list of flicks that I can throw on or catch whenever on cable and always have a blast. And I've passed the love down to my 6 year old daughter, who hassles me every Friday night to watch "Ash" for our weekly Friday night "Creature Features" tradition. Come to think of it, she's probably now seen it more than any other film too.
-
Though your answer helps me see where you're coming from. If one goes into AOD expecting to see a sort of ultimate fruition of the insanity of the first two ED films, it would be a train wreck. I could understand some frustration there.
I see AOD as much more of a standalone flick, and without the burden of thinking it had to be like the previous two, find it staggeringly entertaining. In the end I think I'd rather have three such distinct films as opposed to something more similar. -
