I see JOHN CARTER tomorrow - I feel like I'm the last one on staff to see it - and I'm doing an AICN screening of it next week (date, time, and place to be determined). And, no, there is no JOHN CARTER paycheck in my mailbox. No JOHN CARTER swag. I just really want to see this movie, because I love Edgar Rice Burroughs and I love this story. Everyone from George Lucas, to James Cameron, to even Kevin Costner (with DANCES WITH WOLVES) has taken from this material in one way or another. And that's okay, because I think they paid homage to the source and made great movies on their own.
This is probably the final official JOHN CARTER trailer, and I wish they had added that line "And Earth is next!" a lot sooner. It's a little thing, but it shows the stakes that Carter is up against - he's fighting not only for Barsoom, but for us. It makes us invested in what happens. It's a good trailer (not as good as the fan-made one from a few days ago, but still) and as soon as I know the details I'll have that screening information up for you people here in Houston.
