SINISTER Moves To Scare Us In October!

Nordling here.
Shock Till You Drop is reporting that since Lionsgate decided that October was too soon for yet another remake of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (in 3D no less), they moved it to early 2013. That was all the opportunity Summit Entertainment needed and so they moved their fall horror film SINISTER to that original date, October 5th.
SINISTER, a horror film directed by Scott Derrickson, stars Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio (and former Presidential candidate Fred Dalton Thompson!) - a crime writer finds a bunch of video tapes showing the brutal murder of several families, but as he investigates further, something... more may be happening than is apparent.
But you know the most important thing? SINISTER is co-written (along with Scott Derrickson) by one Christopher Cargill. You might know him better as our resident Dr. Pepper swilling, cross-hopping, 20-pack-a-day smoking Massawyrm. I can't wait to see this for that alone.
Will SINISTER be this year's SAW or PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, box office wise? Only time will tell. We'll see this October 5th.

I will see it for that alone. Good to see you guys making your stamp on the celluloid world.

glad you added "box office-wise", cuz Saw and Paranormal Activity movies SUCK

Like his work here.

A film written by someone with constant exposure to nerdrage and geekhate?
by ravenloff
No thank you. The probabilities that those two versions of ire didn't affect his writing approaches zero too quickly.

Christopher Cargill? Now that's a cool name for an action hero!

If i was called Christopher Cargill, i wouldnp't bother going aroudnwith such a lame nick as Massawyrm. I'd be proud of the name the parents gave me.

Just because he's a bit of an asshole and too self-important doesn 't mean he does not have talent. Here's to hoping that Massa is a new interesting talent in the film world to loki foward. I always root for the newbies. Good luck, Christopher Cargill. Have a better one.
-
... and maybe it's for the better. Could be the fact that he's seen and heard it all makes him more likely to come up with something original, with twists that are more likely to surprise us. By no means a sure thing either way, but let's see it and judge for ourselves. Congrats, Massawyrm.
-
You're OKAY, Cargill... You're okay.
-
Ethan Hawke could sure look the part of Gordon Freeman...at least in this shot he does.

Nice work Massa, but I truly hope it doesn't get reviewed on this site.
by CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS
The reviewer would get torn to pieces and it would largely (and rightly) be seen as a worthless review by most of the community here.

I've been fighting for him to review his own movie since this was first talked about.
by Randy
Seriously, it would be the most meta review of all time. He talks about the film like he didn't even have anything to do with it and gives the most objective opinion he can.
-
Good for you man. Of course I haven't seen the movie but just getting your script picked up and produced is quite a feat.
-
I smell direct to video
-
This is another step in the right direction for this site. Years ago they probably would have posted several positive reviews/interviews/set visits for this film all without telling us a staff member wrote it. Remember that script review for a movie written by a young, unknown, rising talent named Drew Mcweeny?
-
Way to go Massa, and hope it fares well!

Typos in the headline. You guys seriously need a fulltime editor... or at least spellcheck.
by Jet Jaguar
But seriously, congrats Massa. You're the only reason I haven't given up on this site.
-
Not that that's a great accolade really when you consider Harry Knowles' garbled, unintelligible writing. But yeah, Mr Beaks and Massawyrm are the best writers I guess.
-
You ripped of Nicolas Cage's "8mm" for your plot huh? Well, at least you got a script made, looking forward to it. But it also better have Peter Stormare or I'm walking out!
-
i just hope everyone who actually sees it, review it like a pretentious ass
-
They were critical about Nordling I believe, was that a banishment we just witnessed?
-
I've been reading this site for years now. Massa's movie reviews were the only ones I could trust for accuracy up until a couple of years ago. Then things changed. It almost seemed like he was "selling out" to Hollywood. Now I might know why. However, I can appreciate his success in co-writing a screenplay that is actually being released in theaters. Congrats on that Mr. Cargill!
-
As a struggling screenwriter myself, my hat is off to you sir.
-
He's been working on this script for like 3 or 4 years with Scott Derrickson so this won't be just a cash-and-grab type of movie. This is a possible opportunity to see an edgy, new take on a classic type of horror story by a brilliant mind if not two. Massa loves film and everything about it so trust his judgment.
-
So based on that fact alone, I will give this film a shot.

Congrats and I agree Massawyrm has always been the best reviewer on AICN

This explains Massa's absence. Glad to hear you're doing good for yourself!
by Dharma4
Massa is, indeed, the best contributor to the site. You click on his link, and it's guaranteed a great read. -Namaste-
-
Mori's first script was about a mystery involving film, and Massa's is about a mystery involving film.
-
I can't wait for you guys to see the film, for better or for worse.
-
For you I hope it works. Actually for myself as well, I really enjoy a good horror flick when it gels. It's obviously so hard to make them do just that though.
-
Are you going to write about your experience with the film? I would like to hear what it was like being involved so closely to a production like that from your perspective. Congratulations, I am looking forward to it!
-
SHO-NUFF!

Congats to massa...but 8mm really blew, there is a really cool movie to be made from this idea, i hope this is it

Looking forward to the site review on this one...
-
Maybe there will actually be a big budget Half-Life movie made by the time H-L 2: Episode 3 is released?
-
Some of the others like Harry and Capone..got to wonder what they are smoking, but at least Massa doesn't let it interfere with his work. So the way I see it, he deserves success the most and glad he got his script picked up and produced.
-
Nice to see someone from this site doing and not talking for a change. Hope its a hit for you, mate
-
writing a screenplay. "No, that sucks." "No, that's too cliche`!" "Aw, that's too obvious!" "Fuck! Deux ex machina!" "Time to rewatch my favorite movies for inspiration, yet not be influenced by them in any obvious way." "RRAAAAWWRRR!"
