THE WALKING DEAD Has Voted In Its Governor!!
SPOILER ALERT !!

One-handed Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) will not morph into The Governor.

Britisher David Morrissey (“State of Play”) will play “The Governor” in the 16-episode third season of “The Walking Dead,” AMC has confirmed.
The Governor, who rules the Woodbury survivors, will presumably serve as lawman Rick’s chief adversary once Shane Walsh gets eaten.
I’ve seen the next episode of “The Walking Dead” and must say it’s a marked improvement over the last two installments.
It’s the first episode in a long time that doesn’t take place immediately after the prior episode. (It’s also missing half the cast; Hershel, Carol, Carl, Daryl, T-Dawg, Glenn and Dale all sit this week out.)

When should we expect his Governorship to make an appearance? Season 2 finale? Season 3?
-
season 2 finished filming in November and he was only just cast in the role

Always pictured a white Danny Trejo.
-
...how close Shane's demise will be onscreen vs. comic
And where the heck is Michonne? Boy, it'd neat to see her intro the same as the comic, with her 2 @ jaw-less (and therefore unable to bite) Walker escorts...
Not to mention some of her famous katana decapitations! -
*taps mic*.... hello??

I was hoping Tom Savini would've gotten then part.

to be revealed as The Governor now pipe down and see how much more potential the character now has with such an excellent actor in the role?

when are they going to get to the prison? Will that be the cliffhanger scene of the season 2.5 finale?
I only ask because you probably won't get into the Governor bits until the 6-8th episode if memory serves as the basis for how they'll go about things at the prison.
Just having him cast makes me think we shall see some missing appendages next year. -
The past two episodes were mediocre. I was beginning to worry about the quality of the show might really start making a run downward, especially with all the "behind the scenes" drama going on. I know about the promises on the Talking Dead about future episodes being better. My feeling on that is why may mediocre or lesser quality episodes to begin with. Creative writing can go a long way without the need for a huge budget. The Walking Dead is a very good show, and it's probably the toughest show to do because "we" the fan base do have high expectations. I'm excited and relieved to hear that "yes" things are getting more interesting. It's nice to have a kick ass show on the air to look forward to each week.
-
Just figured it was a casting spoiler. Why spoil Shane's fate? so lame.
-
They've dragged that plot arc, out for at least 4 too many episodes. Move on already. I wanna know about the rest of the state & country. You can have character development AND move the plot along at the same time.
-
I'm sure this guy will do fine as the Governor, but they really need to nail down the Michonne casting sooner rather than later. That's the one all the comic fans (myself included) are really waiting to see. And hopefully they dont botch her casting the way they did Andrea's.
-
She's too... "comic-booky". Amazonian warrior woman with a sword... they never even got into Dale's relationship with Andrea... doubt they'll go there either.
-
but would snoop pearson from the wire make a good michonne? i may be way off but from what i can make out is that michonne is badass female and snoop is the baddest chick ive ever seen

Glad to hear there have been some improvements, but Herc could you please be more careful about some spoilers?
by angry kitty
I know much is already spoiled, what with all the info known/discussed about the comic arcs- but I have to agree with Frodobaggins. That slip about Shane's demise should have had a spoiler warning. I think most of us here were expecting a death more in line with the comics and not death by zombie.
Don't mean to nitpick- but that reveal was pretty disappointing. -
Does anyone else agree with me?

...I had also heard rumours of John Hawkes landing the gig. That was my favorite casting, but Morrissey's pretty solid. Also, they could totally introduce Michonne. Yes, the character is to "comic-booky" sure, but they've taken many a liberty with other characters and plotlines. She doesn't have to be a sword-wielding warrior woman. How about just a tough as nails black chick who is competent and can take care of herself? A competent woman who can take care of herself and not make ridicu-fucking-lous decisions every five seconds is clearly something this series is lacking.

I didn't expect to read that Shane gets killed, let alone eaten, this season. I thought I was reading an article about who was playing the governor, and that was the spoiler. Really don't see why that needed to be commented about! It would not have changed the story in the least. Lame.
-
I don't think he WAS spoiling that Shane is going to die... I'm not even sure if Herc knows this himself, he's just speculating... hence the word "presumably"
but, it does look like it's leading up to it. there's been alot of hints, for those who know Carl kills him in the comics. Shane taught him to shoot, gave him a gun, etc. Lori was turning Rick against him at the end of the last episode. I was thinking then, that they won't do it until they have something new to be an obstacle/hindrance to the group in place. in the episode descriptions for the next four episodes, there's a few hints at it as well.
I'm hoping the season doesn't end like last year's; with them basically driving off mysteriously, with no real destination. hopefully we'll at least get a shot or two of the prison like the last three pages of the comic when Dale and Andrea lead the group to it.
I'm pretty sure they've already announced Michonne would arrive "soon" maybe before the end of the season. I don't think it's a stretch to have a woman who can take care of herself and who uses a samurai sword. no more unrealistic than an Asian kid decapitating zombies with a shelf. from episode titles, it may be in the next 3 eps. one is titled "judge, jury, executioner" while another has a description that basically "Rick, Shane and Glenn have to deal with a dangerous person on the farm." -
Michael Wincott, DUH.
-
Not everyone on this site is immersed in comics you know. :(
-
That is not speculation. I know how to read. The "presumably" was that he is going to serve as lawman. The lawman that is the next adversary of Rick "once Shane Welsh gets eaten.", sounds like a statement that Herc knows. Even if you can seeing it coming....it has happened on the show and I for one am pissed that I didn't get to see it happen before reading about it. I have had the chance to read the comics, but have put it off to enjoy the show unspoiled.
-
Darabont once said in an interview that he envisioned the characters finding the prison sometime late in the 2nd season, with Michonne being introduced sometime after that. He also said Michonne was his favorite character, and DEFINITELY planned on utilizing her.
Spoilers from the comics/potential show storyline:
Given what we know now (Governor in Season 3), perhaps we can guess: (1) characters find the prison Season 2 finale (2) drama with prisoners occurs first chunk of season 3 (3) Michonne introduced towards the middle of Season 3 (4) Woodbury & Governor is introduced as Season 3 1/2 finale with all of back half of Season 3 detailing all that follows from meeting The Governor to the Prison Assault, ending with the characters having to abandon the prison.
All of this in mind, I think the inevitable 'Walking Dead' panel at Comic-Con just got a LOT more interesting! -
Correction to above post.
-
* potential spoilers*
re: "from episode titles, it may be in the next 3 eps. one is titled "judge, jury, executioner" while another has a description that basically "Rick, Shane and Glenn have to deal with a dangerous person on the farm."
That's an intriguing hypothesis (Michonne turning up in the next few eps). My speculation would be that "judge, jury, executioner" could be the episode where Shane gets killed: ESPECIALLY if Shane dies similar to the comics (with, essentially, Carl making the snap decision/judgement call that Shane was band and then executing him). That last episode description could mean just any plethora of characters either form the comics or a new TV-only character.
But, it could be Michonne. Personally, I don't care when they bring her into the mix (later on after they've taken residence at the prison, or sooner before they even find the prison): I just kinda hope her introduction is as badass as in the comics! If the show intros Michonne with the two zombie missing their mouths, it will potentially be one of the most iconic moments of the show -
Get on that. While insomniac was borderline plagiarizing Kirkman, the middle of the game does a really cool riff on the Governor storyline (Though it's "The Warden" and takes place a prison- which is also kind of a nod to that storyline)
-
I'm with you on that (T-Dog = Tyreese). I hope they flesh out his character and give him a legit arc if T-Dog shares the same fate as Tyreese, otherwise that incident will be meaningless. It's unfortunate enough T-Dog doesn't have a kid like Tyreese, and therefor his pending death might not come across as that of a reckless, depressed guy struggling with grieving his kid's loss.
-
you are most welcome!
-
sorry man; again, Herc only said he's seen the next episode, not the last four, and I'm 99.999% sure myself that Shane will survive through 2 1/2 - 3 of them. I'm not sure Herc was stating fact, and I'm still going to watch wondering what will happen to him.
@bobba fett
**HERE, THERE BE SPOILERS***
yeah, I don't care when they bring her in, I was just thinking it would be soon; I thought I remembered someone said Kirkman said she was going to be on the show "soon" before the midseason break.
also agree about T-Bone. if he is indeed analogous to Tyreese, he'll have some cool stuff once they hit the prison. although I doubr they hit the Tyreese/Carol relationship; that seems to maybe transferring to Daryl like the Dale/Andrea relationship shifted to Shane. I'm hoping that pays off and Andrea and Dale get closer again (like in season 1) once Shane's gone. -
Snoop Pearson from The Wire is, as far as I know, under federal indictment for narcotics trafficking so i don't think she's available for Michonne. Even if she was Snoop would be entirely wrong. Think more like Zoe from Firefly as the physical template. Also Michonne isn't street before the world failed she was a lawyer and a suburbanite.
-
...well, the last two episodes were clearly an improvement from the first half of the season in both pacing and dealing with the human threat. I'm surprised you seem down on the previous installments (apart from Lori's absurd map reading skills).

How are they going to handle Carl at the current snail's pace of the series?
by nasty in the pasty
So far seasons one and two have covered...what, two weeks? Three? A month at most? The kid playing Carl is going to age out of the role quickly unless they start making MAJOR time jumps between seasons or else writing him out entirely (shades of WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLTTTTTTTTTTTTTT in Lost). It always baffles me when they cast a child actor around the ages of 10-12 in a series where each season takes place in a very small pocket of time, because kids around that age sprout like weeds. That's why Walt was kidnapped at the end of season one of Lost and when we saw him again briefly at the end of season two, he looked significantly older.
-
How dare they choose this man instead.....
-
Not surprising to me, as I read over at Deadline that Jon Bernethal just got cast in a pilot for another network. I assumed that since he was available that there was no way he makes it to season 3.
-
Herc's made it clear that he hasn't read the comic, and he's made it clear that he has no idea what Shane's fate was in the comic, or what it might be on the show.
However, he has been speculating recently, based on the episodes and on the fact that the actor who plays Shane has been hired onto a different series, that Shane may not be long for this earth.
So when he says that Shane is likely going to be zombie fodder, that's where he's coming from. He's not spoiling that Shane is going to die, because he hasn't read the comic. And he's not spoiling that his death is going to be different than the comic, because he hasn't read the comic.
If anything, your spoilage complaints against Herc have probably gone and spoiled it for a number of folks who, like Herc, haven't read the comic.
This moment of clarification has been brought to you by M00kiedood. You are welcome, but man, you guys are asking me tired. Please start paying attention, because I am not a renewable resource. -
weak. no offense bob orci. but if you're going to do the mysterious island you're never going to trump the captain nemo death sequence with some flash-sideways crap
-
...but I was rooting for the guy that played CJ in the Dawn remake. Also the abusive dad in this year's Chronicle.
-
...for Michonne.
-
So now that we know he's not the Governor, will we ever see him again ya think? He might be a bastard, but if anyone on that show deserves their revenge, it's Merle. For me the whole mystery about what happened to him has been the biggest cliffhanger yet, and it happened early on in the first season. Need closure heh.

Obviously Herc was just talking. He knows Shane has been cast in another show, so he must be getting killed off. Reading that as anything but speculation is ridiculous. Have you never been to this site and seen the way Herc writes? If anything he's trying to throw you off.
As for how Shane goes, I really think this will be like in the comic. They have been setting up Carl for it to happen. From the comment that he's becoming cold to the fact that he is running around wearing his dad's hat and getting instruction from Shane. It seems pretty clear that it's coming. That one is a pretty major plot point with big ramifications for the series. And as for the questions of when they get to the prison I'm thinking last episode or first episode of next season. They might run through it pretty fast to get to the governor stuff. Or maybe the gov. won't be taken care of in a single season. -
Feb 25, 2012 2:22:43 AM CST
bobba phat (great name, btw) nailed how the S3 story progression should be, which would be WARP SPEED compared to how S2 rolled out.
by tallboy6t6
But I always envisioned S2 finale - find prison. S3 first half - prison & prisoner stuff. midseason finale - Rick Meets Governor, things get choppy. second half S3 - all of the Governor stuff until the end. Which would make 16 episodes (larger order than before) encompass what is around issue 12 to issue 48(!). Season 1 was basically issues 1-6. The Hersel farm stuff is, like, issue 7-9! So, yeah, it would kick up the tempo.
Of course, they change a bunch of stuff around so ya never know. But I get the feeling S3 will stick very close to how the grand Prison / Governor arc played out. Which, once again, would be very, very fast-ish compared to how this happened.
however, a lot less zombies. Like, a lot less. (once they clear out the prison, that is). But if they keep the governor interesting, you won't even miss 'em. -
Governor had a sidekick, some blubbery dude, who wasn't all that memorable and was basically there so the Governor had someone to bounce dialogue off of. So slot in Merle. There. Done. Easy peasy.
-
Feb 25, 2012 2:34:46 AM CST
To make S3 the bestest, and since this guy is a regular, and since they don't have an episode order for S4, the Governor has to be done in a single season
by tallboy6t6
Look, if he's a regular he probably will at least show up by.... episode 4-6ish, I'm thinking. Regulars do drop out for a few episodes but not for long. And, for S3 to have a grand arc, you have to resolve it by the end. Which means the Governor's final attack & the stuff with Lori & the baby and so forth.
You can't just drop off in the middle of that. The guy is cast a regular so he's gonna pop up. I'm basically 80% certain that, yeah, S3 will be The prison / governor, all in one shot. Which, like I said, is freakin' warp speed.
But less zombies.
But it has the governor so you won't care. -
Would have been fucking nice if they introduced Tyreese this season, Mishonne first ep next season, and the Guv'na by the 4th or 5th episode next season.
That way, we could actually care about Tyreese when he dies and really appreciate Mish's feelings for him.
Instead, no black love in this shit show.

I have been following and reading articles on this site for around 5 year. I have read many of Herc's postings, my personal favorites having to deal with Lost (with it's Inviso-text),and he never gave away a major spoiler, without warning. This is the last time I writing about topic, I just wont read his articles anymore. I also want to state for record...when it happens in the coming weeks and Shane gets eaten by a zombie or zombies, instead of killed some other way. I now know that Herc was just being Herc, and speculating. And got it right!! He's like to physic, all knowing !! Sorry Herc, didn't know you needed so many people to explain the meaning of your words.
-
You should be grateful an actor of this calibre has agreed to be in a show that's so damn mediocre most of the time. It really should be beneath him.
-
I haven't been to the site that often so not as familiar with Herc's style. If that's just his speculation or a red herring or whatever, No harm done. Just seemed more specific to me. Appreciate the insight from the TB
-
Some one had to say it.
-
The same as Breaking Bad's next and final season, I think. Which probably means that both shows will have their next seasons split into 2 x 8-episode runs. Which is something I really dislike as it tends to throw the pacing off due to the need to build to a climax at episode 8 then again at episode 16.
On the other hand, a single run of 16 episodes is probably a little too long as the longer a season gets the more difficult it is to have a satisfying arc spanning that season. I'm of the opinion that 12-13 episodes is about right for a show which has a continuing story and, within that story, has season-long arcs. -

Russian in the Pine Barrons. We will never know. Stop asking already.
But won't matter because there will not be a televised S3. A few eps to be released with DVD set. Get used to it. -
Merle's potential is this. He shows up not as the governor (I'd not heard that crazy theory until today) but simply as the governor's lacky who has a mad on for Rick because he left him for dead and forced him to cut off his own hand. Leading him to encourage maiming Rick in a very similar fashion. I can't see how he was thought to be the governor he's not nearly clever or charismatic enough to gather and lead a group of people in that fashion.

Trejo or Savini wouldve been my choices to play The Govenor.
Michonne hasn't been confirmed by Kirkman, as far as I know (no actress has been announced). However, I wouldn't be surprised, if she shows up on this season's finale though.
Shane and Dale will probably, be the only characters killed off, by the end of this season. Shane is obviously, going to be killed by Rick, or eaten by a zombie. Maybe Shane is turned and Rick shoots him in the head.
I'm going to be so fuckin happy to see them leave the farmhouse. Really tired of it.
Tomorrow's ep looks and sounds awesome. -
Surprise me. The show is getting easy to predict. No one wants General Hospital with an occaisional zombie walking by.
The cast is great, give them something more to work with. -
Dale actually roasts him on a spit and eats him.
-
And almost every casting spoiler simply states who the actor is and who they are playing.
I wasn't aware that the actor playing shane was leaving and that spoiler was unnecessary for the article.

The show does NOT do it for me; long live the comic
by matthewschlotman
Too much shane; fuck that guy - can't stand him and all the melodrama. Works in the comic, but in the show, I want to slap the cast.
-
...i've only seen the first season (I don't have cable, refuse to pay like 60 bucks a month for commercial infested shit that I can just see on DVD a year later), but it was pretty dissapointing to me...and i'm dissapointed that they didn't go with Trejo for Governor...
-
I didn't mind the farmhouse stuff at all. Naturally, in a zombie apocalypse, if you find a safe place like Herschell's farm, you're going to stay there. The whole bit with Carl and Sofia was just the macguffins to justify their outward reason to stay (while they did deal with the underlying possibility of them killing Herschell's group and taking over).
In regards to the cast doing stupid things, that has been going on since Day One on this show, much less every single zombie movie out there... even so, when Lori went out in the car ALONE, without telling anyone, and then when she hits a single zombie, HITS THE EXCELERATOR and NOT THE BREAKS... I just shook my head.
Okay, strike whatever (after T-Dawg slices his arm while sloppily hiding behind a car door, among other stupid behavior from the rest of the cast)... but this last episode? Rick doesn't keep his mouth shut? He tries to "reason" with them? The group outside doesn't hide and then just follow them? Why risk getting more of your guys killed, especially if you don't know how many are in the bar? They're willing to kill the guys in the bar and the random black dude (who they let get munched) but Rick doesn't follow through with what he JUST DID A FEW MINUTES PRIOR and shoot the kid in the head? And they waste MORE AMMO on zombies trying to save a kid who even Herschell is writing off? And Glen gives up on sex because he has a breakdown, because he finally realizes that he is a pizza delivery driver in the zombie apocalypse?
And Lori... let's NOT walk BACK to the house following the road... let's walk INTO TOWN ALL ALONE WHILE PREGNANT WITH RICK'S/SHANE'S BABY. And after complaining about going alone, does Shane take someone with him? Do these people have a death wish? You would think by now they would have established a few rules (never go alone; never leave without a gun AND a melee weapon; ALWAYS leave a note or tell someone what you are about to do).
Frankly, these people deserve to die and I could care less about them any more. I will still watch just to see what happens, but its akin to when the comic WALKING DEAD had Carl shot in the face... oh, I'm sorry, have the entire RIGHT SIDE OF HIS FACE (including his eye and his ear) BLOWN OFF and yet somehow is not only still alive but is still Carl (no permanent memory loss or brain damage.. forget dying on the scene from the trauma).
And the whole "governor" casting? Like people said: Michael Wincott? Michael Rooker (which I think would have been perfect, as well as explain why he would want Rick's hand)? Hell, how perfect would it have been to have Tom Savini play the part, even to the point of essentially reprising his DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004) sheriff cameo (as a reflection of people following Rick)? They could have even cast Joseph Pilato (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0683334/), ie. Captain Rhodes from DAY OF THE DEAD?
AMC are idiots and need to rehire Darabont back pronto, or this show will be as dead as the walkers by this season or next.
AMC? Are you reading these talkbacks (be it here or other film sites)? You are KILLING your golden goose! -

First season was a masterpiece compared to season 2
by matthewschlotman
cysticrambosis - you are missing nothing. Too many changes from comic - too much Shane, absolutely Michonne and other characters. Feels like a caricature of the comic.
-
That spoiler sucked if it's true because one of the most badass things to happen in the comic was at the end of volume 1 when Carl shoots Shane in the neck and he's all GURGLE GURGLE GURGLE!!! Raping away a little boys innocence even more than it allready has been...
-
I love him as much as the rest of you guys, but let's face it, he's not a very good actor.
This guy might not look right, but I have seen his stuff, the guy is a real talent and might bring the life to the show that it needs.
I think this is nothing but positive news, means S3 is going in the right direction.I can only hope they have the balls to just stick to the comic now and get brutal with this show.
Seriously, it's time to get hardcore. -
Just because you feel Downton Abbey is superior to season two of The Walking Dead, it doesn't mean it's okay to ruin it for the people who still dig the show.
-
Herc has only seen the next episode, and he doesn't know if or how Shane will die.
But based on the way story has been folding and tensions have been building, he's been speculating for a while that Shane's time was about up.
Like many others (read this, crybabies: ), Herc became more sure of this a couple days ago when it was revealed that the actor who plays Shane is in talks to join Darabont's new show, LA Noir.
That's where his comment comes from, morons.
Eventually, when it is revealed that:
A) Shane doesn't die next episode (the only future ep Herc has seen)
and
B) the cause of Shane's ultimate death ISN'T by zombie
Then you can all come back here and admit you've been acting like a bunch of hysterical school girls. And crankymaddog -
I meant to include this TV Guide link, that also speculates on Shane's fate given the Bernthal casting rumors.

You're telling me that T-Dawg, a cowardly useless shit of a character, might be replaced by Tyrese, who in the comic books, swiftly dies. Not sure how I manage to do it, but I do.
Christ on a crutch. Wake the fuck up, would you? -
I love Morrisey, but he couldn't be more wrong for the role of the governor. The only worse casting decision they could have made was casting Andrew"I'm totally devoid of charisma"Lincoln as Rick Grimes. Oh wait a minute! Gues I'm fucking done with this travesty of a show. And don't give me that character development bullshit either! Because I like character development if A: it has some degree of believability. and B:I actually care for any of the characters. which aside from Darryl and Andrea I don't anymore, for any of the boring characters in this awful tv show.

...is writing on an entertainment spoiler site about a property that has existed in comic book form for some time. He is aware of the pretty widely circulated casting rumors surrounding Darabont's new show. His job is to inform and engender discussion about the topics he covers.
If you chose not to read the comics so you would not know what (possibly...because this is an adaption) will happen on the show, then made the decision to read a column about the property on a site devoted to speculation and spoilers, then you have made a poor decision.

To those guessing when they find the prison -
They find it tomorrow.
This was shown during Comic Book Men.
Shane goes to shoot a walker through the fence. Rick stops him and slices his own hand open, rubs blood on the fence, baits a walker to come near and stabs it in the head.

Re: a LOT less zombies
I think that's kind of what AMC wanted in order to get budget costs down. In that case, our idea of how Season 3 might be paced would also work out well for AMC's budget, as there would be a TON of character development/drama and not a lot of zombie attacks.
Definitely already more excited for Season 3 than I was/am about Season 2 -
...I don't think she would work very well on the show, at least as envisioned in the comic.
Would she work as a tough, capable woman with her basic personality intact? Yeah, probably, and the show could use a competent female character.
As a fanboy fetish object pseudo-superheroine, cuisinarting the living dead with katanas? Probably not, unless her character was redrawn to make it clear that what she had turned herself into was purely a product of her reacting to the madness of the world. And yes, I know this is eventually revealed in the books, but there's way too much fencing as a child, football fan, bodybuilder happenstance built into the character. It was borderline even for the book.
Redefining her persona as a character she created from whole cloth in order to be able to psychologically endure the new reality of the world might work if done well, and in that context even dragging around her ex-husband zombie might be a plus, but you can't lead up to moments where talking to her dead boyfriend is seen as her super secret coping mechanism or the silliness where she throws away her sword because it's just done too darn much killing.
Her whole being would have to be her coping mechanism and it would have to be demonstrated as such. And no offense, I like the show (heck, I've even been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the second season) but at no time during the course of the series has it demonstrated the soft, sure touch it would take to make this sort of character believable. -
RE: 16 Episodes
I'm not sure if you've read the comics, but there could potentially be a TON of development in Season 3 to make 16 episodes not seem plodding if the writers stick structurally to the plot lines of the books. -
re: About Michonne...
I agree that the comic book version of Michonne will likely be significantly toned down for the show. She is very much a 'comic book' character and has rarely felt like a "real world" character in the books to me. I do think that she can be a strong, silent-type who is all about taking action vs planning things out or talking. Writers can take out the "going crazy with a sword" aspect of Michonne, but still keep the strong, confident, capable fighter aspects. -
His penis is too small and he's gay.
-
...yeah, I agree. It's the safe way to go and probably the only way for the show.
But you know, there's nothing I love more than creating a character that on the surface seems ridiculous and then grounding it with a history so compelling that every bizarre quirk and unbelievable accoutrement become, in context, not just believable but inevitable.
Like I said, I don't think, based on what we've seen so far, that Walking Dead is up to that task (even before Darabont left). I don't think the book did, really. It gave her the kind of comic book standard back story that would just crash a Buick through the tone created by the show and wasn't really that great a fit even in the books.
But man, if they could, that would really be something. Sort of makes me sad I'd rather not see them even try. -
Would have been a great Governor. The guy needs to be pretty evil, but with a bit of redneck humor thrown in. "Fifty seven channels and nothing on..." while staring at an aquarium with Zombie heads in it. Kenny Fucking Powers.

Seriously, have any of you actually seen Savini or Trejo act? Or are you too busy furiously masturbating at the sight of them to notice what terribly shitty actors they are? Is the "look" of the character so much more important than the actual skill possessed by the actor?
And a major-league LOL to the meathead who suggested the overacting hamball from Day of the Dead. At least I'm assuming you were joking, because there's no way a sane person would want that guy anywhere near a quality project like this. -
...masturbate to Joe Pilato easily enough. I mean, come on, "choke on it!", the guy's a natural.
Trejo's a problem because every time I try I think of him and Bruce Campbell in Dusk to Dawn II and well...it is Bruce. Now Bruce Campbell...he would have made a perfect Governor.
Same thing with Savini. Sure, it starts okay, I mean look at that beard, but then I think about Ken Foree and then I'm thinking of From Beyond and then I'm thinking about Jeffrey Combs, and well, I think we all know where that ends.
Hey, you know Jeffrey Combs would have made a great Governor, too. I wonder why they didn't get him? -
Granted, I haven't seen anything the man has done recently, but given a competent director (you know, like Frank Darabont?) and I think he could have pulled it off quite well, especially considering that the Governor is a variation on the Capt Rhodes character anyways.

I AM posting on a AICN talkback after all...

I hereby retract my comment about you being a meathead. Unless you're the same guy who spazzed out because BAH GAWD, THEY SHOULDA DONE HIRED A AMURKAN!

I've only ever seen Pilato in Day of the Dead and I thought he was the worst part of the film. Ironically, his "CHOKE ON IT!" line was one of the best parts. Overall though, he was a horrible overactor and I'd much rather see a true actor cast in the role. This Morrissey fellow is nothing like I had envisioned for the Governor, but that only intrigues me and makes me anticipate seeing him even more. I like that they took a page out of Christopher Nolan's playbook and cast against expectations.
Jeffrey Combs or Bruce Campbell as the Governor would have been interesting, but again that's a bit close to stunt-casting and those actors bring a certain level of camp to their roles that I don't want to see crop up in The Walking Dead. No offense intended, Combs is fantastic in the Re-animator series and From Beyond and he is the best of the B-movie suggestions. Have to admit I am not a big Bruce fan... I like him well enough, but I honestly don't get the cult-like appreciation for his acting. He seems like a super-cool dude, though. Just not my cup of tea, I guess. -
...is it me? Or do talkbackers not know that there is such a thing as makeup and prosthetics for actors playing parts? Just because Danny Trejo looks badass in action movies doesn't mean he'd be right for The Governor. You need a phenomenal actor for the part, and Trejo (though really badass) doesn't quite have the chops to pull that role off in my honest opinion.
-
Seriously. Bring McShane out. Haha... right?
-
...I was joking.
Except about the masturbation, of course.
I just wanted to hit as many of the usual suspects as possible. -
low budget, but it will put this crappy show to shame. I cant wait to start filming it.
-
Where can I find those?
-
Ah, okay. It's hard to tell around here.
-
I honestly wish they could lure some of the writers from Justified to show them how REAL character development and dialogue works. I love the show for what it is, but if you even had some of the Justified writers so much as touch up/polish the writing on these scripts, it would legitimately be one of the best shows on TV.
it IS one of my FAVORITE, but there are DEFINITELY better shows that I don't really care for.
I can at least admit that everything I like isn't the best, and most of the best, I don't like. -
Too obvious! My vote is Lori or Glenn! Shane will die eventually just not now! Herc doesn't know anything!
-
Is his girlfriend in a coma?
That shit is serious.
