This guy just gets me... I love that he can flip his nose at the stiffness of the academy while still being funny in a way that he has perfected. Awesome...

  • Feb. 24, 2012, 9:46 a.m. CST

now my real comment. can't wait

    by jolliff89

this shit is hilarious. Sasha baron cohen is a pretty amazing comedian. If people can't understand his humor and think this is a bad idea I'd say you're fucked in the head. Bring this to the oscars, people know how boring they get and how much they need some excitement. And why has there never been a comedy category. That's a talent thats even harder to grasp than simply crying in a movie.

No one thinks this is just prefabricated PR hooey?

    by Subtitles_Off

Cohen and The Academy dunderheads found a "viral media-ish" way to hype both of their uninteresting, rubbish projects. Synergy! Catch it! There's never been any doubt in my mind that Cohen will be sitting, as himself, right there in the HUGO section come awards time, mugging with his self-satisfied "Who me?" look. Cohen is not big enough to rate on The Academy's controversy radar unless his team of publicists, and a bag full of extra promo money, marched into AMPAS offices themselves and said, "Hey, you guys wanna be hip, we got an idea..." So transparent.

Love it. Not a fan of his Borat stuff, but I think he's a really funny actor. This is perfect.

Ah, the new, leave-your-brain-at-the-door. I'm quite regular, thanks, and the list of things I enjoy is quite long. Longer than your boyfriend's dick.

    Honestly

    by byronical

I loved this. Very funny, but obvious publicity. I expect to see Cohen either sitting there as himself or coming into the ceremony in a grand spectacle as the benevolent dictator. Either way, I hope it'll be a good evening.

You clearly don't get the joke --- if you knew a little about dictatorships in the Mid-East, then you would understand the rape joke. It's, well, you know, an adult joke. Rape jokes are mostly not funny - but in this case, Cohen is taking a jab at the fact that dictators in the Mid-East use rape as a weapon.

I saw The Dictator and liked it. slight SPOILERS

    by MrPaisley

Saw a preview screening in Marina Del Rey a couple months ago. The director was there, lurking in the shadows. They said several times before the movie began that it was a work in progress, but the cut I saw, save for a couple small digital FX, could be released tomorrow and it would kill. Cohen is truly funny in the movie. The trailers don't let on very much, but the movie is very similar to Coming to America, with the Aladeen being ousted and with him coming to NY to plot his rise back to power. Anna Faris is good in the flick too. Rarely do I see movies twice, but I'm looking forward to seeing it again when it releases. It's that good.

  • I know they've always let just about anybody be a Choppah, but it seems like they've suddenly stopped looking too carefully at their membership cards.
