Herc’s Thursday TV Talkback!! Yack Here About The Final OFFICE, PARKS, ROCK, UP, WIPEOUT, PERSON, FINDER, MENTALIST, IDOL, BANG, ROB, ANATOMY & JERSEY Of Sweeps!!
Pam Halpert’s hot maternity-leave replacement, Kathy Simms, did not try to seduce Jim Halpert last week, though Jim did seem to develop a fascination with the philandering Stanley Hudson.
Though sweeps will have ended by next Thursday, NBC will be back next week with new episodes of “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Awake” and more, and Fox will offer a new telecast of “American Idol.”

Haven't watched an episode since they retconned the superb Red John reveal in last season's finale. Doubt I ever will again. Bradley Whitford WAS Red John, there's no way they made that episode with the intent of later revealing him as a fraud and anyone who believes otherwise is a tool. Showrunner should have stood his ground instead of letting the studio dick with his ending to that particular chapter of Patrick Jane's story. But no, he caved like a motherfucker and they'll drag this shit on til the show gets canned and then wrap it up with a bullshit ending. Why not just go the whole moronic hog and reveal Jane to be Red John because that would be TOTALLY ORIGINAL AND AWESOME WOULDN'T IT?
-
Which is why I could write that whole rant above and still be first. Nobody gives a fuck.
-
What? THE? HELL!?

Impractical Jokers is doing well, for being on a shitty network
by V'Shael
It's what makes me laugh on a Thursday, though it was a bit fucking cheeky to do a clip show after only 6 episodes. Q, this isn't the god-damned united kingdom. You don't get to do clip shows after 6 episodes.
-
but mucho love for NBC Thursday night stoopidfest?
-
just sayin, we're generally above that shit.
-
I've never understood it.
-
While community isn't popular, but something we hold close and it special to them. I am a fan of both shows. Yes, the laugh track is annoying, but the show is very well written.
-
why do you think they reconned the red john thing? I never thought for a moment that the red john reveal was real. So you think that they filmed the eps, delivered it to CBS and CBS broadcast it, and the network only became aware of it's content after it aired and then they demand the recon?
-
Most who visit this site fancy themselves as huge nerds, they feel that a mainstream show that features a dash of nerdiness is insulting to them. The show is more amusing than knee-slap funny. And this site is no fan of the over-the-top laugh track the CBS comedies feature. Me? I like Big Bang and the NBC comedies.
-
Go to Amazon and do yourself a favor. The blu-ray only feature I can't wait for is the characters narrate their family histories. AS their characters. Awesome. Can't wait.
-
After all Columbo went on forever and I love them. It was a shame that the Red John Arc got rebooted although I always felt RJ was a manipulator and had many `followers` so maybe he was another one, it didn`t feel like it but I`ll forgive it because it all gels so well. They need to ditch the office romance crap with the support cast though. Enough already, it`s a cop show. and I just stopped watching Alcatraz and Walking Dead out of pure boredom. At the end of the world I want to be driving Dune Buggies and Tanks all over the globe doing jumps and wheelies not arguing about whether to open a barn door or not and having feelings...zzzz
-
I should know this, but too lazy to look. Everyone I know, watches shows via Hulu - at least the ones available. I have seen none of this year's "L&O:SVU" because it isn't streamed. I never watch the Thursday shows "live".
-
I like: Community (Adore... The xmas special was transcendent) Big bang theory (Fuck you 2.5 men) Parks and Rec (Kinda slow this year) 30 rock (Surprisingly fresh after a lack luster last year) Californication (Adore actually) Shameless (Keeps me from becoming an alcoholic Justified (WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALTon!) Person of Interest (Where'd this come from!) Spartacus (Still adjusting) Modern Family (Grab popcorn and be heartwarmed) Louis ( I even paid for his special) Sorry if this revokes my geek cred for being diverse.

Half of me still loves NBC Thursdays, but the other half is dead inside until Community returns
by cookepuss
-
The Office's ratings are slipping each week. If people don't want to see Dwight alongside characters they used to love years ago, why would they want to see him in a new show? I wish Jim Carrey could have been the new boss. Like Carell, he knows how to mix drama with comedy. But whatever. His cameo on 30 Rock will show the Office producers how a Carrey cameo should be done - not some low-key one-minute bit about the Finger Lakes.
-
Nerds don't act like that.
-
OK, I'm going to try to be objective. BBT is based on actual people co-creator Bill Prady knew in his teens and 20's. The man was born in 1960. So the way the geeks and nerds act on the show is more reflective of geek and nerd culture from 1974-1995. For those of you born after Jan 1 1981, I can agree the show does seem out of sync. Since I was born before 1970, I saw a lot of truth in the first 2-3 years of the show. They nailed the geek culture pre-internet. The format of a 3 camera sit-com also prevents the BBT from expanding the world the characters live in. Everything is on-set, very little on-location shooting. BBT had a episode where the plot was Penny cast in a feminine hygene ad. Since half of the writers are not geeks, but more jocks and chick sitcom writers, the jokes in the commercial was of the the toilet humor variety. Community did an episode where they shoot a new ad for the college. The old 1980's ad was dead on funny, with the 1980's graphics, 1980's special effects, neon colors, and old-school IBM desktops (with mono-chromatic monitors) and fax machines in the shots. The dialogue and delivery was perfect as well. Being a staff of mostly geeks, that's were the show put their money. Also, being a 1-camera comedy allows the show's directors to be more creative with their blocking and camera setups. BBT is also suffering from it's success. Jim Parson's, to me, is becoming lazy. The first 2-3 years he played Sheldon as a hyper-nerd with border line Asperger's syndrome. This season, the character is more of an uptight gay diva, which is what Parson's is in real life. Then the character Raj is now being written and played as a closeted gay man, coupled with Mayim Bialik's Amy now being more of a closeted lesbian, and the influence of the non-geeks on the writing staff is becoming more apperant. Someone pointed this out in the past 2-3 weeks and it was an accurate criticism. I'm glad Communtiy is returning. NBC needs to let it live. The world needs more than one geek comedy.-----later-----m

And I normally wouldn't plug Best Buy, a chain I absolutely detest, but they have exclusive box art in two variations, both of which are really fucking awesome. (The Stark art gets my nod, though.)

Archer is the funniest show on TV. Everyone with taste should be talking about it.
-
To those that say "nerds don’t act that way", you are very wrong, we do to come level or another. Yes it’s a larger view of us, but its true in the details. And yes its funny, as is the NBC stuff (most times) and ABC and Fox, and ect. Again and again I see posters here slam things just because. Even say people should die because of what they directed or who saw what at the movies and liked it. This site is for those that worship all things comics and movies and to get up to date info on, but it feels most times its for someone to go to slam others to feel better about themselves and their small lives, even get personal and very malicious. It does not make you special, it makes you very sad. Example, Yes, the new Ghost Rider was less than expected.. but at least they made it. I can remember way back when those of us where begging for the agencies to spend 50m or more on a real comic movie, then when we get them we complain the main character is blond and not brown haired or something like that. It gets old fast. So just sit back, enjoy what you like and let others do the same, and you should feel happy TV is not 100% RealityTV and the movies are not 100% RomComs. Thank you
-
Colbert Report Daily Show Archer Big Bang Nobody asked. Nobody cares. But hey..
-
im sure some people will say it always has been... but i enjoyed the first few seasons. now they have expanded the cast and its not for the better. the blonde with the glasses and that fucking voice.. my god. whenever they bring that lisping idiot on it is real bottom of the barrel stuff. agree with the guy who posted how jim parsons is lazy now. his character is boring. its become a real shit fest. i still download it.. but i find myself skipping through scenes.. wondering if it will ever be funny again. while we are at it - how bad is 2 and a half men. my god. the new english gf? fuck shes painful.
-
I know this isn't on Thursdays, but here is a trailer for Clone Wars and the return of Darth Maul! http://www.usatoday.com/life/comics/story/2012-02-23/Darth-Maul-debuts-in-Star-Wars-Clone-Wars/53221760/1
-
They now usually only have 2 laugh-out-loud jokes rooted in geek culture. The NASA nickname gag had a weak ending with Howard being still labled a momma's boy. J Compare that with an episode were Howard's spankbank included Katee Sackoff, and they had the actress cameo in the tub with Howard. Far more creative. If they did something similar this year, it would be Raj teling the guys he had a wet dream about Capt. Kirk.
-
i know they have elements of both but the image there going for is science geeks...non of my movie/comics/music geek friends watch or can relate to that show
-
Thanks for the heads up about Game of Thrones! $35 is crazy!!
-
I'm a nerd and can totally relate with the characters. Also I think that the new additions only add to the greatness of the show.
-
The Finder is one of the more original and refreshing shows I have seen in a while. Too bad that it won't be on much longer.

by BrannigansLaw
Doesn't make much sense... not at all.

It's not that the network only became aware of it after airing, it's that they only truly realised the significance of the Red John hook being finished and shit their pants, then demanded a retcon. If you never thought he was really intended to be RJ then I guess you just weren't watching that final scene of s3 with much attention. You think they went out of their way to get BRADLEY WHITFORD of all people just to be a gimmicky fucking fake-out decoy? Jesus... Hell I even read an interview with Owain Yeoman (probably about six spelling errors in his name there) at the time where he mentioned how nervous the network had suddenly become as they began to ponder the idea that nobody would give a shit anymore now that RJ was dead and the ratings would plummet. He WAS Red John. Now he's not, and we'll probably get a bullshit twist that it was Jane all along, or that psychic Teri Bauer chick. The Mentalist died with Bradley Whitford, this is a fact.
-
One of the best
-
I agree about finder, has it been cancelled? I'd love to see it have time to be discovered.
-
Tonight mr. reese goes undercover on wall street to kill some greedy corporate bankers and avenge the 99% of america and give them some refunds!!!! HELL YEAH! LMAO. Plus archer is on after!!!! awesome night on thursdays who the fuck watches the vampire diaries?!? That shit is whack!

There needs to be a change in how they figure out ratings...
by Andrew Coleman
Big Bang Theory and Rob are shows for retards. There is no fucking way that many people watch those shows unless only morons watch television anymore(could totally be possible). The laugh track garbage is so old school and the writing is for children at best. Ugh oh well maybe the generation that is watching these trash is going to die off soon.
-
Anybody who either knows or is a mega-nerd knows that the dialog just doesn't ring true. They're feeding off of antiquated stereotypes. On top of that, the writing is bad enough where actual smart people won't be fooled into believing these characters are themselves smart. I buy into the idea that they're dorks. Smart? Not so much. They're idiots hiding behind polysyllabic words and mind numbingly simple science/math concepts. just because it looks and smells like nerd doesn't mean that nerd is what's being cooked up for dinner. I agree with the person who referred to BBT as "nerd black face". It totally is. It's like the idiot hipster douche who buys glasses to look smarter.

Jim is either happily married to post-preggers big butt Pam or she confiscated his dick before he left for Florida. =) Loved Kelly this ep. Been a while since she said or did anything funny.
-
The ending of season 3 would have been a perfect ending for the show. The guy knew how Jane's loved ones smelled before they died, for fucks sake. It could not have been anyone else. Making Whitford an impostor cheapens RJ, he's not so special anymore. Do all of RJ's followers know the exact circumstances of Jane's family's death? Stupid stupid stupid. It's because the creators where renegotiating a contract for 3 more years at that point. If they needed to keep RJ alive they shouldn't have killed Whitford. Make him run away, heavily wounding Jane or something, that would have been acceptable. I did read an interview with Heller sometime prior to that finale where he said RJ was gonna be part of the show/not gonna get caught until the end, something like that. With RJ gone the ratings would have dropped dramaticly, that's for sure. RJ is the driving force of the show, of the main character. Without him show's over, Jane has no reason to work with the CBI etc. Heller/CBS ultimately decided to have their cake and it, too. Knowing that at this point enough people would be hooked, and kept watching even after the whole RJ shitfest. I'm still watching, only for Simon Baker's acting and his interactions with the other characters. Just like a bunch of people are still watching House and will keep watching until the end, because of Hugh Laurie.

I'll be honest, I was hooked from the moment in the first episode where they're in the Mexican stand off, and his mother keeps saying like how would you feel to see me with a bullet through my head lying dead in the middle of the street? And then his ex pushes him away going JESUS CHRIST, HE HAS AN ERECTION! I literally almost died. As in I was lying on the ground gasping for breath and promising myself that if I survived this laughing fit, I really would lose some weight.
-
Looked at it last night. could not help but notice the laugh track. (Call it what you like. They use it like a laugh track.) The bongo scene had laughs after every single line, regardless of humor content. Please don't let this be Sheldon playing the Bongos. *LAUGH* Please don't let this be Sheldon playing the Bongos. *LAUGH* Oh my god, Sheldon is playing the Bongos. *LAUGH* Sheldon what are you doing? I'm playing the Bongos. *LAUGH* This went on for 5 minutes. Every line ended in the word Bongos. And a laugh. It is painfully unfunny.

Venture Bros has layers...Archer is a rude, unfunny brick.
by higgledyhiggles
I watched Drawn together when it aired and loved it. It was all bleeped and really silly and funny. I bought the unrated dvd and with the bleeping gone it`s like listening to your college roommate swearing constantly because he thinks it`s funny, even though he`s now 45. Archer has no subtlety(to be fair at least it didnt in the first 6 episodes) Who wants to watch southpark with the swearing in. It would be tedious. The movie was enough to show why they don`t do it.
-
I want the office to go on just because of that pretty little idiot.
-
So we see that Elias got powerful friends and is making money the dirty way, a private war fund???? Wow that's very ambitious! Also that still doesnt answer who the hell is HR if it isnt elias, it must be someone else!!!! Dammit so many damn questions! I loved last nights episode with the assassin's john did good with only one gun... Hell yes!
-
One of my birds is sick. I have to go home and baptize her. OK, I'll change my eye color. But it seems like a waste of voodoo. Classic stuff. Liz Lemon looks pretty haggard this year and continues to try her hardest to destroy anything left of her attractiveness (the revolting stench from her gym bag last week was about the last straw for me) ... but the writing remains top notch.
-
I love BBT. It is one of the best comedies on television right now. The characters are very likeable, unlike geeks in real life. The Mentalist is a fun little fluff show. It isn't high drama. But it is enjoyable enough and the lead is charismatic.
-
Though I agree with you that much of that stuff is often funnier when it is still bleeped out, I don't know at all where yo uare coming from with the South Park movie. That movie was fantastic, and it wasn't even really that vulgar other than a few parts which were enhanced by the vulgarity (mr. Mackey's song). oh and as for Archer, the raunchy humor is always the focal point, but I enjoy it for its other charms.
-
forgot about "shut your fucking face uncle fucker," which certainly falls under uneccesarily vulgar. my bad. other than that though...
-
I'm a HUGE Star Wars/Trek...et all nerd and I find those guys sniveling, annoying little turds. I'd beat them down in the street if I talked to them for 5 minutes. I'm also a FILM fanatic in general and these freaks know nothing about the overall history of film at least from what I've seen and that makes me hate them. I don't relate to self-centered, socially awkward a-holes who bitch that people treat them like shit, yet act like know-it-alls and snobs with non-geeks treating them like shit. huh? Besides, the jokes are jsut not funny....badly inserted laugh tracks aside.
-
I'm offically sick of it trying so damn hard to be hip and funny....give it a rest. Bring back COMMUNITY!
-
They are obsessive know-it-alls. Sheldon is a twat of colossial proportions. Skinny, whimpy douche.

Nice to see POI is developing a recurring Big Bad
by Nasty In The Pasty
The show has been doing too many stand-alones, it's time to ramp things up and start serializing the storytelling a bit. And Enrico Colantoni is always enjoyable. Now, if they could just give Jim Cavievel a personality transplant...
-
I am sick of them both...they are not funny and Pam's post-preggos look is awful, where's the hot girl that was there? I've heard and seen it happen- some women have babies and loose their looks, she sure did. Too bad. Get rid of them both as they are no longer needed. Dwight still works on his own. Robert California was a big misfire. Either bring back Jim Carrey or hire Gabe as the new boss. OR hire Jim and have Dwight conspire with Gabe to get him fired at seasons end....

It was good to go you pussy. Stanley Hudson keeping his pimp hand strong.
-
Highly regarded I might add.
-
Jim Carrey, why do people keep bringing him up? It's not like he was ever an option to take over, he showed up in one episode for fun. It's not like he was actually auditioning and they turned him down. Anyways, I thought this was the best episode of the season. The only way it would have been better is if Stanley told Jim "If you're not gonna, then I am.." and took her out back to his room.
