Hey folks, Harry here and I love this trailer for Abel Ferrara's 4:44 LAST DAY ON EARTH. Anytime Abel makes a film, I'm curious. From his early work directing exploitation flicks like THE DRILLER KILLER and MS.45, well it is fun work. Then I saw his KING OF NEW YORK and BAD LIEUTENANT and thought he would be an unstoppable cinematic genius. Then he made BODY SNATCHERS - which was a fascinating failure for me. Fascinating because there's tons of stuff in it that I love... but it just doesn't quite come together for me. Then DANGEROUS GAME paired Harvey Keitel and Madonna - and yeah... it was an unhappy marriage... cinematically speaking. THE ADDICTION came next and while better - it just left me missing the amazing filmmaker behind KING OF NEW YORK & BAD LIEUTENANT.
This year we've got some end of the world movies... ya know, because at some point in December after BNAT14... the world will end. According to - those people that believes that. If Copernicus believed it, I would be concerned - because he's somebody constantly finding the END of Solar Systems all over the Universe - and I would trust him to properly alert me and invite me onto the secret space ark that he's secretely working upon, but never tells me anything about.
I don't know about you - but I'd love to see how Willem Dafoe handles the end of the world. His face has the emotion for it. Abel's inky black often sleazy perspective of the world is wholly appropriate for the material.
