Michael Curtiz really is one of the greatest directors of all time. He made my all-time favorite gangster movie, ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, and of course, the classic CASABLANCA... just look at this list! And yet, he's seldom mentioned with the other greats except by other cinephiles. Well, we're going to show kids this week what greatness really is.
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD is probably one of the best popcorn movies ever made. It's sheer joy from beginning to end. You get Errol Flynn in complete awesome mode, the beautiful Olivia de Havilland, and the evil Claude Rains. It's adventure, romance, comedy, and action, and it's genuinely for everyone. I'm honored to screen this for our 8th Dimension Comics/Ain't It Cool sponsored Alamo Kids Club, this Saturday, at the Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park.
