Two new Avengers photos for you to ogle!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Disney has released two new Avengers pics and I figured it'd be quite greedy of me to keep them to myself, so here they are.
Word 'round the campfire is Marvel considers The Avengers to be their best outing yet. I've talked to some cynics in the group who weren't sure it was going to come together and they're all doing their mea culpas now. They say it has the heart, the action, the humor and the suspense a movie like The Avengers should have. The only criticisms I've heard is that Whedon's eye isn't as cinematic as it should be, but that the rest of the movie is so good that you accept it.
So, go Avengers! Bring it on!
In the meantime we have a couple of bland photos to hold us over. Funnily enough I like all the elements in both photos, just not sure about their presentation. And is it just me or is Scarlett wearing the facial expression of someone who had a really bad burrito and is trying to keep it together on the way to the toilet?
Both of these pics can be enlarged with but a simple click.

Thoughts?

Maybe it's just the fact that they stand out in the blue and all, but Chris Evans' right eye looks kinda weird- like he was half asleep when they shot that.

Strut, Strut, Strut, Turn, Pose, Strut! <p> Quint - can you elaborate on "The only criticisms I've heard is that Whedon's eye isn't as cinematic as it should be" (?) <p> I translate that to be it's dialogue and exposition heavy - of which Whedons style doesn't really interest me that much bar maybe a season or two of Buffy. A bit too self aware, wink wink nudge nudge to the audience. <p>

if i keep seeing pictures from Avengers i am going to lose interest
by antonphd
if i didn't enjoy Firefly so much i would have lost interest in this movie after the first images released of Captain America's modern suit. the image above is not helping. i don't give a FUCK about being true to the comics. i just expect the suit not to look like a 12 year old made it. but Batman's suit in Nolen's movies looked shitty in images too, so, i'll give it a try

Old pics, and they're not blowing my skirt up here gentleman...

-
Thor was pretty good, the news that Branagh got booted was bad in that stylistically he brought some great qualities to it. <p> Captain America was OK but moreover felt like the studio saying 'SHIT we're making a movie about the Avengers and we need to boot a Cap movie out of the door so it looks like we know what we're doing'.
-
When I asked "Does it look like TV?" The source's response was in the affirmative. But he/she/it has always been honest with me and said that even though it looks like TV you don't mind it because the rest of the movie is so good.
-
To be honest, these and the other released pictures back that up pretty accurately. <p> Will still be a good affair by all accounts if they manage to have that earnestness that a too heavy handed Whedon-esque dialogue snap happy piece could veer off track with.
-
Yeah, because Robert Downey Junior, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johanssen, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are nobodies. I'll give ya Mark Ruffalo, because he does smaller films, but to call those actors "nobodies" is ignorant. Chris Hemsworth, possibly is the most promient "unkonwn", but he's not a throwaway. He just hasn't had as many films as the rest.
-
That's what a film like Thor got so right in terms with having it's eye on the cinematic and the plot - albeit the plot wasn't that strong, but it still felt epic and otherworldly which is refreshing for your ten a penny superhero romp these days.
-
I find it funny, that Hollywood usually hates superhero outfits because they look dorky, and here's Captain America looking more dorky than he ever looked in the comics! Seriously, the outfit in that crap 90's movie look better than this- oui!

Look at this TB... "Iron Man sucked and was bland"... "First Class was an over rated piece of shit"... "Hurt Locker didn't deserve the oscar and I stopped watching half way through(lie)"... So every movie sucks. Avengers stands no chance here. It could be the best pic/trailer/poster but people will still hate. Why is it the most bitter and pathetic losers come on here? I'm pumped for this movie the trailer was decent and the SB ads added just enough to show us how epic this will be. Come on it's an Avengers movie! Get fucking excited!

Cap looks brutal. Hawk looks like a fag. Widow is fat. Thor looks like he just came out of Vidal Sassoon. Just because Cap looks just like he does in comics doesnt make it right. He hired incredibly bad artists. A bright plastic helmet is the best they could come up with?

I'm sure it's a great help to the team of super heroes to bring the guy with 10 arrows along. The good news is that since arrows are so useless in a super hero fight, there's no reason to not use them sparingly, or really use them at all.
-
Pumpkinhead? Squashface? Something like that, anyway.

Sounds awesome! Yes, sooner please!

Don't you think its cool that an actor who's not a pretty boy is breaking out like he is? You want all your actor's to be gorgeous? You guys ARE straight, right? And in some roles, ie. THE TOWN, HURT LOCKER, he's a hell of an actor.
-
Would they PLEASE just CGI some wings on his damned helmet! He looks like he should have one of those flesh-tone plastic nose plugs clamped to his nose. They don't have to stick out. They could just be flat against his head like the chrome on the side of an old car.

by Stegman84
It's gonna be hard to enjoy a film if most of the cast look awkward or even downright cringeworthy for much of the running time, no matter how good everything else about the film may be. Convince me otherwise Whedon, damn you.
-
Any still photos of Health Ledgers Joker could never do the character justice.
-
To me photos of The Joker released prior to Dark Knight always looked interesting. I didn't know what they were doing yet, it was certainly a different take, but it didn't look cheap or tacky, not to me anyhow. This on the other hand... But like i said, I want to be optimistic, I'd always rather see a good film than a bad one, but photos like these don't do the film many favours in my opinion.

Coulson's showing Thor the trailer for TDKR...'By Odins beard, Batman hath fornicated us over, tis over Coulson.....we have a Hulk but they hath oscar winners hanging from the rafters..'
by cameron
I've looked forward to an Avenger movie since i was a boy but i also looked forward to a good CA movie a good Thor movie a good Hulk movie and a good Iron Man movie - which i got with the first BTW - but one good movie out of five isn't a great batting average. If only Marvel had taken their time and made quiality instaed of quantity...No denying Whedon's a big comic book geek and Nolan isn't, but being a comic book geek doesn't make you a great film director, and Nolan is one of the best. I agree with the comments that the trailers for Avengers look flat and lack the omph of a directors eye for depth and colour. The costumes seem to look worse in this movie - but i thought Thor's costume was terrible before - the costume for CA in TFA was okay but the one for Avengers looks cheap and it looks like Evans is smaller than he was for CATFA so the costume's padded out...don't want to talk about the 'tard helmet..... Just give me Hulk smashing things and Iron Man flying around, it'll have to do, for now.
-
Not seen so many obvious children on here in ages.... Righty, I want this film to be great, I really do, I'm a comic head born in 1961 so I really did grow up with the Avengers over the years, I don't read so much these days, I sample issues here and there but for me the splitting up of the universes just left me wondering which Nick Fury I should follow, which Spidey etc etc etc.. BUT, I have an issue with this film, well two issues, Black Widow and Hawkeye. Neither of these two seem to feel like they are Avengers, they feel and look tagged on, both are seen doing next to nothing, Natatsha holds a gun and there's none of the grapple line with her swinging ala the comics, they look totally UN SUPER. I HOPE they appear more bad ass like the comics in the full film, yes we know they are not super human but come on, give the comic book reader and film viewer the escapism from the comics, beef them up a bit. Also, no shocker here, I HATE the cap uniform, he looks like an extra from a gay Avengers piss take, somehow they took an iconic costume and made it look like crap. I'd have rather seen the fish scale type costume which looks rugged and war like or even the costume from the Cap film but slightly beefed up. Evans must have made a few comments re the costume because you seem to see him without the rather crap helmet a lot of the time.

I really don't like the costume design on this outing. Especially the Captain's Helmet.

From the original X-Men to Spiderman's organic webshooters to the initial bad buzz on X-Men First Class, this site's TBers has the nasty habit of making proverbial mountains out of molehills. Once we see these characters in action I know all will be well. There's really no need to fret over a few stills.

His costume in the movie was so good - why did they go for this day glo nightmare?
by Rex Carsalot
-
Going to try to hold my opinion until the movie's out but I'm not excited about this one. Iron Man 1 was a fun movie. Iron Man 2 was sort of stinky. Thor was sort of stinky although Hemsworth is great casting. Hulk movies have been stinky. Captain America was pretty darn good. Joss Whedon has a huge cult following that I'm not a part of but I have to assume that there's something awesome about him as a director. But then you've got an ensemble cast where I worry you can't have enough character development/story to get you to care about the characters. . .

homosexual captain america has to stink up this movie with his shitty fucking village people costume. I got nothing against comics for gay people but I don't need to be reminded that there are men on the planet who like to fuck other men when I'm watching movies. This isn't the gay and lesbian section on Netflix- this is Avengers! Ok so I never read avengers and apparently it was for gay kids who could tolerate capt America. I'll go for Iron Man and Hulk and Redhead Woman. Redhead Woman is my favorite character. Oh fuck my Christ captain America sucks in every conceivable way. I like the captain america movie- god almighty somebody drag this guy out back and shoot him! I fucking hate, hate, hate captain america. Oh and what the fuck happened in that movie? Ok great the experiment was a total success and we created the only known super soldier. Well I guess let's just throw him away. Go fuck off and sell war stamps you loser. Did they tell everyone he had superpowers? Why couldn't anyone dress as captain America for pagents while the actual one ya know- fought- or something? Just doesn't make any sens.. Oh wait. It's a live action Marvel comic. It's perfect! I love this shit! Give me Marvel Zombies immediately!

I'm so proud of my gay son. He loves the cock. I can't do it but he loves it. He loves it in his ass- He takes loads across his face like a champ and just laps it up. So proud of him.

50 years ago Hollywood was all musicals. Maybe we'll look back in 50 years and cringe at all the camp, infantile superhero flicks.
-
We have seen the trailers for this and the characters look good. For some reason, production stills just make a film look bad. Does Captain America's suit look good in that pic? Not really. Does Jeremy Renner look like Jeremy Renner? Yep. Does Scarlette look sexy? Uh, surprisingly, no. I thought she looked good in the trailers and she was totally hot in Iron Man2, so I'm still hoping that she does look better in the film. While Whedon is a brilliant writer, I think his strengths are more in plotting\dialogue, than visuals. I'm not saying he isn't capable of filming with a cinematic eye (Serenity had some excellent shots), but his background work in TV is going to show, so be prepared. Besides, you can already tell, from the trailers, that the look of the film doesn't scream, "cinematic". IMO, I think X-Men, X2 and Iron Man have been the best Marvel superhero films, so far. Raimi's Spider-man films are too corny. X-Men: First Class had some great performances and moments, but that film had a boring story and the script really suffered, from it. Not to mention, the continuity issues with the other X-Men films! Captain America: TFA was CRAP. THOR had a few cool action scenes, but overall, that film was boring. Iron Man2 just didn't have enough Iron Man, action and Scarlette. The Incredible Hulk was ok. Ed Norton did a good job, but I didn't really like the look of the Hulk.

Cap's right arm is too long, Renner has black boots on
by Larry Sellers
when Hawkeye clearly wore REALLY DARK GREY in the Ultimates. Black Widow's nose should be higher up in the face as well. That's an easy CGI fix right there yet they couldn't do it for these pics?? Also Thor has his hair draped over his left ear when Ditko's Thor always preferred his right ear. And what's up with Coulson's tie? Uhhhhh last I checked SHIELD Agents wear a Full Windsor??? I swear, did no one who worked on this movie ever lift a comic in their lives? THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK UGH JUST REBOOT IT ALREADY
-
Even IF it is a bad movie, you can still expect it to make the budget back and then some. Im thinking '98 MENACE numbers.
-
I dunno, I would say the OBJECTS IN SPACE and THE BODY are both incredibly cinematic. And SERENITY. At this point I'm willing to believe that criticism is just the cynical folks hanging on an easy slight because we still somehow equate credibility with how many flaws you can spot. But, eeeeeeee, I don't think I want to see Cap in stills anymore. I am a huge fan of his FIRST AVENGER costume. I am not, of this. It just looks weird.
-
I'm still looking forward to this movie more than any other since the first SPIDER-MAN flick. Can't wait til May!

You can't judge the look of the film from publicity stills.
by FluffyUnbound
There probably hasn't been any color correction done yet. And fantasy and superhero movies are VERY vulnerable to looking really hokey and cheap before post-production work is applied. I'm sure I could dig up some non-color-corrected stills from Hobbiton in FELLOWSHIP that look cheap and stupid. And that's probably the best-LOOKING fantasy film ever made.
-
Even though I truly hate the Cap costume and yes Thor's costume looks bad here. But I could care less because so far the trailers I've seen have me pumped! Even that first teaser with that awful music. I can't wait to see this movie. The scene of Iron Man flying up and shooting the Skrulls in the Super Bowl trailer doesn't look Made for TV to me. I'm pumped.
-
Nope, I would just prefer them to have faces that aren't as queasy on the eye as mutant-looking fuckers like Jeremy Renner, Matt Smith or Benedict Cucumbersnatcher.
-
Because this movie looks to be an incredibly fun ride. Such a shame people cannot seem to get past the details for the costumes. I understand the desire for perfection- but why shoot this down before you've had a chance to see it in theaters? Trailers, production stills are not always the most representative of the final product. Some of the best production stills- and trailers were in fact attached to some pretty weak films (Green Lantern comes to mind....) I am looking foward to this.

When Cap's helmet is off, it becomes a cloth mask. Weird.
by hank henshaw
I wasn't crazy about Cap's baggy outfit from CA:TFA so I don't really hate the new costume. The helmet is throwing the whole thing off, tho. There are some superfluous details, like the zippers, that don't help either. Anyways, judging from the trailers, Captain America will be without the helmet most of the time.

Again, this squeamishness about cap look will probley all be alleviated when we see his costume within context/lighting of the movie.Ive been following this film closely since production started, there are plenty of great pics of the costume properly lit and framed. not like these shitty stills marvel has been releasing whoever mentioned the"captain Steve rogers" outit, its funny, the costume does somewhat resembles that when he's running around with his mask off mask is off the silvers chevrons on his shoulders link it for me i guess.(and oddly enough like "Caps son" in that young avengers toon that came out awhile back) For example.(better pictures of the costume, http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=44490 http://screenrant.com/captain-america-avengers-costume-set-images-plot-details-benm-128241/chris-evans-as-captain-america-in-the-avengers-3/ Buck up nerds. we used to eat this shit up when we were young, and to some of you:un jaded

=looking like tv= has always been my fear since Whedon was hired
by Jaster Mareel
And Serenity is why. I remember sitting in the theater and thinking it looked like a fucking TV show, and that was before I had seen a single episode of it. The effects were sucky and the shots had hardly any movement at all. WAY too many medium two-shots. The only scenes that had any dynamism at all were the effects sequences and that was all laid out by the effects company. Joss just said =Yeah that looks cool=. And yet I held out hope that he had somehow schooled up in a way that Kevin Smith never bothered to. The trailers so far have looked great so there's at least SOME improvement. Too bad that TV stink is still on it though. I kind of assume Disney will switch him out after this film, if for no other reason that extremely retarded Cap suit. That just shows a severe lack of judgement. Of course the other very serious reason to be afraid of Joss at the helm is that goddamn snarky bullshit he just can't seem to resist at every opportunity that makes you just want to shake and slap all his characters. I just hope it all comes together. *sigh*

by Autodidact

-
Again, this squeamishness about caps new look will probably be diminished when its properly displayed within the context/lighting of the film.Ive been following this film closely since production started last year, and there are more than enough pictures That show the costume for what it is. not like these shitty press stills marvels been chucking over there shoulder. And to whoever mentioned the"captain Steve rogers"outfit. Its funny, they kinda achieved a best of both worlds vibe design wise in that aspect, since it does somewhat resemble that look when evans is running around with sans helmet. the chevrons strips on his shoulders link it for me i guess, call it a stretch if u must.(also oddly enough like "Caps sons"outfit that young avengers toon that came out awhile back) For example.(better pictures of the costume, http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=44490 http://screenrant.com/captain-america-avengers-costume-set-images-plot-details-benm-128241/chris-evans-as-captain-america-in-the-avengers-3/ Buck up nerds. we used to eat this shit up when we were young, and (to some of you)and: un- jaded by previous disappointments

I just don't get that criticism. Nothing in the trailer remotely looks like tv. I think this is one of those knee-jerk criticisms that people go to so they sound more "reasonable" about their Whedon-hate. If people didn't know he came from tv, I bet they would never make this comment.

Cap looks bad but can suffer that if rest of the film is good
by Rupee88
Yes it doesn't bode well but still have a good feeling about it, and I usually don't with these overhyped films. But my point is if Whedon does 50 things right and 2 or 3 wrong, then could still be a big win. But yes, I don't know what he was thinking with this costume.
-
I mean, you've got five pretty good films under your belt ... all leading up to THIS ONE. And then you get a mediocre "TV guy" with a very small (albeit very vocal) fan base to direct it. Did they not watch Serenity? Or at the very least look at the box office numbers for Serenity? I expect this will do gangbusters in its first weekend. But if it's not up to snuff? Bad word-of-mouth will end up destroying this film. And the words "you won't mind it" don't exactly equate with "ringing endorsement." Sheesh. This whole thing looks like a cluster...
-
This will own
-
Big brash superhero movies are best done CGI i think where the action can be as huge and crazy as possible. I watched the trailer for DC Online, that's the format for superherp movies i think, it looks great and the cgi is a purer extention of the comic book style. 85% of Avengers will be CGI FX so they should just cut loose the actors and do it full CGI.

Right? I'm expecting that Marvel are hoping the fans will like Whedon's trademark brand of "witty, sarcastic, snarky, teen-friendly" dialogue. Otherwise, they're screwed.

Looking like TV / Not cinematic -- What everyone was worried about from the start..
by Wesley Snipes
That's not good news. All of Whedon's work has that slightly cheap TV look. I don't know if it's the lighting or his framing or what. With this film's budget & Whedon's promise that he would turn up the visual pizazz for the Avengers to prove the doubters wrong, I had hope that he would reverse the curse. But hearing even a Marvel Insider criticise the film's look is not good. Still, the movie looks awesome. Maybe for Avengers 2, they can keep Whedon as producer & writer, but bring in a more accomplished action stylist to direct (not an overwhelming stylist like Michael Bay, but more like a James Cameron or Martin Campbell type.. a guy who can deliver tight, good-looking action without resorting to visual masturbation).

Captain America costume: should ditch the candy stripes
by Jake Pantlin
They really are not needed, and it makes the jacket look really bad. It would have looked better if the jacket was all blue. The guy is carying around a red, white, and blue shiled for pete's sake... he doesn't need the candy striped on the uniform too. If anything, they could have worked the red and white colors into the belt instead. As for wings on the helmet... I would not have wanted to see little wings sticking out like in the comics, but they could have had it look like wings were pressed into the helmet - just slightly raised from the helmet, as they they were part of the metal mold - rather than simply painted on.

Need I remind people that X-Men 2 and First Class all looked like crap in stills too?
by cookepuss
Both movies turned out to be great. Just pull those bunched up panties out of your asses and relax. The reality is going to be far less emotionally disappointing than any still photo. These are comic heroes we're talking about. They're meant to be in motion and doing dynamic stuff. I don't expect Avengers to get me to start the First Church of Marvel, but I do expect it be a hell of a lot of fun. Based on the trailers and the actors involved, I can't say that it'll do any less than that. Cage the insanity, guys. Stills only give you a partial, and usually pretty flawed, picture of the situation. Movies move.

Dont u remember shity "Cap:The first avenger pics, and trailers ?
by TheAwareness
Do u guys realty want cap 2 have the first avenger outfit in this? it was a great design that worked well in the forty's setting but, like that the evolved his look, though i wish the pouches on his belt were brown, would have broke up the blue nicely But to be fare.i will say the best choice they could have made would have been to design something akin to the Alex Ross's Cap uniform that Bucky donned when he took over for Steve in the"funny books"recently.the black clash's brilliantly with the blue silvery armor on his cowl and torso,i think with some fine tuning it would have looked Great on film. And it would have served to be A stronger bridge that collectively ties together the visual chemistry of the teams look with out altogether looking like a team,as in, uniform without being uniform. Red blue=Thor Black=widow and Hawkeye polished metal armor/red torso=iron man Hulk..i got nothing But im glad marvel took the chance and did something bold.Avengers should be colorful and dark.
-
1) Move the star higher on his chest so he looks barrel-chested 2) Ears and helmet wings so it doesn't look like he's wearing a bucket. In a perfect world the white bands would go around his arms and the top of his red & white stripes would be straight... but not looking AWFUL is a higher priority than absolute accuracy. You can just tell that some woman with no sense of POWER made those ruinous softening changes to the classic costume.

Cause she's, y'know, Black Widow. That was a bad picture to put out there, but I still have faith.

it just looks like it's all been done and seen before. The deal closer for me is that one shot where Scarlett lands on one knee and looks up, you know the pose that's been done to death and still continue to do it because they think it looks cool. It did at one time, it doesn't look cool anymore!
-
Whedon doesn't have the vision, for a film like this. It's going to be a small film, when it should be a HUGE EPIC FILM. Get ready for the reaction of "Ehhhhh, it was fine.... I guess I just wanted something bigger, more epic like... wasn't that what we were leading up too?"
-
He has red gloves and white sleaves, for fuck sakes. Even without the stripes on his gut, he still looks like an American flag. You sir, are an idiot.

LOL at people who think "wings" are the solution to Cap.
by DonnyUnitas
Wings would look horrible. There's a reason they designed around them. There's simply no way to pull them off and have them look anything other than cheap and hokey. Sure, it goes against source material, but that doesn't mean it's wrong thing to do.

I'm a fan of Captain America. I suggest that they get rid of the stripes on the costume (because they look silly in live action), and I'm called a communist, a douche, and a cunt. Patriotism is a great thing, but to all some one names ofr guggesting ways on improving a costume (that most peple on here agree needs changing) is ridiculous. It makes you look you are over insecure. Pretty sure ol' Cap wouldn't run around calling people douches and cunts. Why? Cause it is un-American. The stripes (suspenders) looke dgreat in T.F.A. If they want to have the stripes on the new cosplay costume, they should have at least done it in a logical way.

Because Whedon is incapable of writing characters that don't sound like Whedon. "Smart" and "hip" and "knowing," which translates to unconvincing, pretentious, unnatural and overly sarcastic to the point of cynicism. Whedon (and Diablo Cody) don't write for specific and characters, they project their own personal "blog" voice onto everything they do. The Avengers will feature seven heroes who all sound exactly like Joss Whedon, and that's supposed to make up for the dull and flat visuals. Sounds like a treat.
-
This site is amazing. The more I read it the more ridiculous you guys get. Presumably you're wasting your time on this site because you LOVE movies, particularly genre fare (as I do). Yet, the vast majority of the posts are an unending tirade of negativity. SUCKS, BLOWS, BULLSHIT are some of the most overused words on this site. Get a life guys. The movie isn't even out yet. You have NO idea if it's going to be great or not. And honestly, no movie sinks or swims because of the design of a damn costume.

Look at some of the crap that has come out in the last 20 years. People on this site have every right to critique films before they come out, because they have been burned too many times. I said it last year: This is the one that will alienate mainstream audiences to comic movies
by Joe Jones
Why? Because you just can't take people dressed like this seriously. It looks like a comic convention. They look fucking ridiculous. The first pic looks like a cheap-azz TV set, and everything about this screams made for TV. This will make you feel like an obese, snarky, comic store employee dork while watching it, but you aren't that - and it'll annoy you that you are there when hear whedon's "trademark" dialog. This guy has done nothing NOTHING But bombs. There's a reason for this - his writing is completely off-putting to audiences, his direction lacks energy and style. BACK TO FOX and UPN, HACK. We'll be eagerly awaiting your "next" show about snarky women who physically dominate men.

He's a solid director and really good writer, but he has always lacked the eye for major films, or at least I always thought so. This has the budget to make up for it, I just hope Whedon is able to be a little more visceral with this one.

Oh boy if sleeveless Hawkeye ain't the gayest thing this side of the Blue Oyster I don't know what is.

Well, of course they do. They're not gonna say, "Sorry. It sucks." They're going to give it all the praise it'll take. That being said, I'm thinking it doesn't look half bad. They can easily screw it up, though.

No. No, it's not. Cap's costume sucks Fin Fang Foom's giant scaly cock. The TFA costume was boss! Why the hell didn't they use that? His new helmet makes it look like he needs a wheel chair and a drool cup. Other than that, no complaints. I'm pretty excited for this. All these Renner haters...man, I hope he owns this role. Not that I want a "told you so" moment, I just believe we should give him a chance. All we've seen is his brief part in Thor, a few flashes in the trailers and some stills. Renner's solid. I hope he surprises us.

ScarJo looks like she needs to take a shit real bad
by SenatorJeffersonSmith
-
I really doubt it. I imagine Iron Man and Hawkeye will be extra snarky, but nobody else will. Everybody talked like that in Buffy because they were L.A. teenagers. Everybody talked funny in Firefly because it's an attempt at a Chinese/English hybrid language. The nerds and dolls were the only ones who talked funny on Dollhouse. Angel, Toy Story, (for better or worse) Alien Ressurection, Speed, etc. all were fairly normal sounding.
-
Epic fail? Pretty much, yeah. The helmet is obviously the worst element so let's start there. Likewise I was worried about the helmet in The First Avenger, but it worked out pretty well. Yeah it bothered me that his ears were covered and the chin strap was a bit much, but otherwise, pretty cool. This new helmet is fuck man.....I don't know. Like something one of those really annoying fucking bicycle people wear with their little spandex ball-hugger shorts. Not flattering. Again the ears are covered. what the fuck is with that? I don't really care about not having 3d wings standing out from his head. Yes it is the established look, but come on, that would look pretty odd. Unless you over-emphasized them and did a Thor-type helmet, but why would you want to do that? To me, this is Captain America http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_slzL0vHRjtY/TSVLS55rFVI/AAAAAAAAHXM/llOOxTrlLVs/s1600/1466107-118_ultimate_comics_captain_america_1_super.jpeg Very reality-based and fucking doable costume. In this new Avengers version, I don't like the material. It seems kinda =nancy-boy= to me. Cap should be rugged and tough, like he was in The First Avenger. This comes off as, I don't know, preening. Why can't the pants be canvas cargo pants dyed blue? What the fuck would be wrong with that? These look almost like valour or something. My other problem is with the upper torso and arms. This is not what the costume is supposed to look like. TFA changed it but at least made it rugged and cool. Again, this looks fucking pussy. I mean, he's got a giant-assed zipper running down his stomach for fuck's sake! And the grey inside-bicep thing is just stupid looking. Keep it original man. Give him the fucking fish scale/metal eagle feather upper texture. How often do superhero costumes actually provide you a texture? The first time they get one they fucking CHUCK IT! I can imagine those metal scales looking like dark-blue armor and being pretty fucking cool. Not this stupid felt-looking bullshit with strange padding or whatever underneath. This blue chain mail should extend over the shoulders where it meets WHITE FUCKING SLEEVES! It will look fucking cool if they just have faith in it and take teh time to do it right.

Y'know...like Batman! I saw all these people coming out of a Halloween rave in San Francisco last year and I'm just kind of over it now.
-
Oh come on. ALL of these movies have looked really fucking silly with maybe the exception of (the majority of) Incredible Hulk. This is the inevitable culmination of that silliness. If this ends up being cheese, Whedon--much as I strongly dislike most of his work--shouldn't have to take all the heat. I haven't heard enough of the dialogue to decide if he blew it in this movie, but I know that his Astonishing X-Men work was good for what it was. He understands that comics can be fun and lighthearted as well as being heavily dramatic. And honestly, I'm just glad Zak Penn's draft wasn't final. Marvel has steered every franchise into this event, shoe-horned characters and scenes and cameos into every film...and this would have happened regardless of whether or not it were Branagh, Favreau, Leterrier, or Johnston directing. The main difference being that it would still be Zak Penn's name on the screenplay.

Cap looks fucking stupid!!! Why the fuck not use the cool uniform from the movie??? cap's movie made him as believable as anything could and this is a step backward.
-
As a huge Captain America fan from back in the day, I never really bought Chris Evans as either Steve Rogers nor Captain America as visualized in the Silver Age books. I just didn't think he was the right body type. Too skinny, those one or two post-transformation shots aside. (Armie Hammer would've been a closer fit, for example.) Now, seeing him in costume in the shot above I'm more certain than ever they've completely screwed Captain America up. I hope it plays better in the movie than these production stills would indicate.
-
Ok, I agree with Evans being too slight of body for the part but I can forgive that. I CANNOT forgive the dorky helmet they stuck on him that makes him look like a hydrocephalic. A fucking helmet? Cap don't need no fuckeen helmet. Give Thor his helmet instead, you cunts.

Christ, when will H'Wood costume designers get their head out of their asses?
by aegri_mentis
The people are supposed to be going into combat? How about you actually look at combat uniforms, and at least take some design cues from them? 1. Black Widow cannot reach her guns without bending down. Thigh rigs should rest at the tips of your fingers, not at your fucking knees. Additionally, she doesn't appear to be carrying any extra magazines or ammo. 2. Captain America. I don't know where the fuck to begin here. He's got all those pouches/pods on his belt, but what the hell do they have in them? For a man that's supposed to be incredibly mobile and acrobatic in his combat style, he has a lot of junk right where his body is going to bend. (This is also been my argument AGAINST Batman having a utility belt, but I digress.) He wouldn't even need the utility belt if his fucking cargo pants had pockets that could actually hold fucking cargo. They have pockets and zippers on them, but they are so tight, he couldn't carry a pack of gum in them. 3. Hawkeye. Everything in combat gear is supposed to have some sort of function. He's got so many straps and buckles on his boots and pants, but not a god damned thing strapped or to buckled to them. I'm not saying you can't have a little creative license when translating a comic costume to the big screen, but if you're gonna say, "Let's put a buckle here", at least have a reason for it besides just having it there.

...everything else I've seen about this geek-gasm in waiting says OH YEAH, BABY! BRING IT ON!! I agree that Cap's helmet should clear his ears, like the Ultimate Cap, and I think we'd buy the otherwise REALLY comic-book look of his uniform if the blue were darker. It needs to be closer to navy to come across as realistic, but it looks lighter than royal, which is a mistake. Overall the shot isn't near as dynamic as it should be. The trio should have been put closer together and shot slightly upwards for better effect. Still, this is just picking nits off of a colossus. Who gives a shit if ONE damn picture is cool or not when we KNOW the movie's going to kick major ass? And to whoever was downing the lead-up movies above, get a damn life. Norton-Hulk sucked balls compared to Ang Lee's version. Trippy, yes, but MUCH better written and the special effects were off-the-charts superb+. I prefer a Hulk that CAN actually jump hundreds of yards at a bound, instead of barely clearing a small building! Granted none of the lead-ins were exactly Dark Knight-calibur, but Iron Man I wasn't great? Thor wasn't surprisingly deep AND cool? Cap didn't kick all kinds of ass? Please. It goes like this: 1. Iron Man I 2. Thor 3. Iron Man 2 4. Captain America 5. Incredible Hulk And I'm glad they recast Mr. Pretentious in the Bruce Banner role. Eric Bana was a better Banner, so I'm disappointed they didn't go back to him, but hey, we're all looking for the big green guy, not the wimpy scientist, right? AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

I agree. This isn't a case of bitching about black crotch. This is just a bad out-of-context picture.

Arrow guy and Kung-fu kick girl got a lot to prove against the other team members.
by UltraTron
Let's see if the film addresses that. I'm guessing hawkeye will be the sneaky ace in the hole that can snipe(wouldn't a rifle be more effective?) the enemy's control panel or something while hulk occupies their forces. Kung fu girl perhaps can distract some Skrull soldiers who are earth girl curious.

I never liked her for this part either. I thought they should have gotten an actual Russian actress, perhaps Olga Kurylenko. Scarjo's accent was terrible. Also, Scarjo is gorgeous and she has the body, but her facial features aren't severe enough for Black Widow. Scarjo has unique and cute facial features, but not classic beauty looks. I know that this is nitpicking. My main criticism is her fake accent and how she is playing the character. And it just doesn't feel right for me. I just don't buy her as a coldblooded Russian covert operative who could kill a man if she had to.
