Id rather theyd cancel 30 Rock to open the space

    by saen

but its good news none the less; and having 30 rock in the slot showed that any of their other shows are bound to get decimated in that slot too. So Community really wasnt doing too bad since they dont have anything that would do better.

30 Rock and The Office have jumped the shark

    by sofaking

30 Rock has not been funny in a long time. Office has been done post-Carrell. Thankfully, there's still Community and Parks and Rec to actually make us laugh.

    Reply to Talkback

  • ...is that The Big Bang Theory will annihilate it, just like it did to 30 Rock, which was doing fine in the ratings before it came back. CBS is a juggernaut that will not be denied, or at least that will be left on in the background while people do other things.

    by pdepew2181

I guess I'll have to live with that. I've watched Up All Night since it's been on Thursdays. Nothing special, but not terrible. Certainly not better than Parks and Rec either.

I still enjoy 30 Rock and The Office, though they're clearly past their prime. I think The Office needs to plan an exit strategy so it doesn't fully overstay its welcome. Also, I think a Dwight spin-off is a terrible idea for several reasons.

  • NBC should at least give the gang a final year so that they can graduate. Send them out on a high and try not to force the show beyond the premise. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not suffer through some contrived reasons for keeping the dean, Chang, Starburns, & co on after they graduate. Graduate them in one last season and move on. 4 perfect seasons. That's all I ask for.

My faves in this...COMMUNITY CAST!! Especially Senor Chang. Britta's tits also get a nod.

    CREED from The Office. Natch.

The hot chick from 30 Rock (the intern?). Even though she's out of focus, eating pizza in the background... she still looks awesome! Tracy Jordan also gets props.

    Trump only gets ONE LINE!

The entire cast of Law & Order gets to play "Cop Rock"...Richard Belzer singing?

Anywho...Once I saw this spot on Super Bowl Sunday...I knew NBC had wised up. It's a Brotherhood of Man.

    Nielson can go die now...

    by myphdisdoom

CBS "domination" is clear the system is broken. Their "comedies" are horrible and I don't know a single fucking person who watches them. Last time a friend of mine mentioned 2 Broke Girls and said "It's terrible". This NBC line up is my favorite night for television. Saying The Office and 30 Rock have jumped the shark really means you're just saying "I never liked the shows but it's time to bash them". 30 Rock is great. The Office is hitting its stride since the cast shake up, if you don't see that it's because you don't want to. These four shows simply rule. CBS is watched by the soon to be Walking Dead... It's time to change how ratings are done so good shows can survive.

    by eyegore

It hasn't suffered from Michael Scott's absence, and in some ways it's gotten better with the addition of James Spader as the new boss. I doubt most of the people here saying it sucks have even watched it since Steve Carell left. Just the usual misguided AICN talkbacker hate.

They should cancel 30Rock, and preemptively cancel any new shows that are about working at NBC.

Great News Now Find A Better Timeslot

    by hedgehog000

Sorry, I like Big Bang too and I suspect a lot of the target audience for Community does as well. They need to find a better timeslot - 9 would make more sense.

Alternatively, CBS should take the show over and move it after Big Bang which would be a vastly superior followon than the horrid Rob.

The Office is weak without Carrell

    by speed

And yes, I watch it cause the wife likes it. But even she admits it's not the same as it was, Although the last couple of Eps have improved on the first part of the season which was just awful. Community was a good show, but the writing was mangled because brought in too many female writers and it suffered as a result -- Not because female writers are bad, but because it wasn't a female oriented show.

    Thursday nights...

    by elsachmo

The Office has gotten horrible since Carrell left. I'm shocked at how high the ratings are every week. I'm also shocked at how low the ratings are for "30 Rock", which I think is the best of all of the shows on Thursday night. But, hopefully the fact that "Community" pulls in better ratings will keep it from ultimately being canceled.

James Spader has been completed wasted on The Office.

    by stangrossman

The genius of Carrell as Michael Scott was that underneath the idiotic behavior was a emotionally complex character with moments of savant-like brilliance.

Spader, on the other hand, seems to be on automatic pilot doing his trademark smarminess. His character is completely one note and uninteresting. Imagine if Alan Shore (his much more complex Boston Legal character) was part of the Dunder Mifflin 'verse. That could've been interesting!

    Reply to Talkback

  • was when Scott was in some kind of trouble, I forget what, it's been a while, and he knows it, and then suddenly, BAM, he nailed a gigantic account. Because he is a good salesman, just a bad boss.

The prob with The Office is NOT the cast.

    by cheif brody

Ed Helms is doing a fine job replacing the great Carrell as boss. The rest of the cast is still top notch.

The problem is...They have run out of "Office Related Humor".

Sexual Harrassment? (Check.) Inter-Office Romance? (Beaten to Death.) Useless Meetings? (Check.) Promotions? (Check.) Downsizing? (Check.) Corporate Meddling? (Check.) Racial Tolerance? (Check.)

There's a reason the original BBC version was only 2 seasons (12 brilliant episodes) long.

Once you take "the office" out of The Office, and it becomes just about personal lives, babies and adultery (Ugh)... you are getting away from the things that make the premise so funny... and it just becomes a "docu-sitcom".

They've already burned through every possible workplace scenario 4 times over at this point. Time to retire it and go out with some dignity.

    by gotilk

But calling it stupid makes you look like an idiot. It's not even remotely stupid. It's just not as good as Community.

  • if it's the last year - so be it - go out with a bang. They've got 2 incredibly talented actors with Spader and Tate and even though Tate just joined the cast last week - it would be a crime not to put their talents to use every week - and in a big way.

The other thing that Community has going against it...

    by ribbons

...is that, through no real fault of its own, it will most likely be the sacrificial lamb if NBC decides to "shake up" Thursday nights. They're not going to cancel The Office or 30 Rock, at least not this year, and Parks & Rec is pulling better numbers (and is a great show in its own right). So like the coach of a dismal sports team, Community will be made an example of to show disgruntled fans that the front office is "doing something."

    Neilsen ratings are junk

    by moozikmktr

You're going to tell me that TBBT is killing all the NBC comedies? That show is for high schoolers. People tuned into the rapid fire meta and pop culture references in 30 Rock aren't watching that friggin CBS snorefest. P&Rec is too subtle for audiences who tune in each week to watch nerds misunderstand romantic relationships (AGAIN). Aside from Katrina Bowden, is there a single person in a recurring role on 30Rock who's under the age of ..well...30?
I guess just because TV execs are able to charge exorbitant ad rates based on an outdated system, it's just good enough. Jesus...radio stations still pay attention to Arbitron scores. Care to guess how THOSE are ranked? It's ridiculous. Nielsen ratings are just as clumsy and skewed.
