Dammit, I can't write off this movie now, because I like this actor too much. Variety is reporting that they've found their man for their science fiction re-imagining of the famous Zorro, and it will be Gael Garcia Bernal. Obviously Fox is thinking long-term with this project because Garcia Bernal is young and I'd be surprised if they weren't thinking franchise.
As far as Gael Garcia Bernal goes, I've never not liked any of the performances he's done - obviously his most well-known work is in the fantastic Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, but he'll also be seen opposite Will Ferrell in CASA DE MI PADRE this spring. He's worked with some fantastic directors and always delivered, even in smaller films like THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP and as Che in THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES... We haven't seen him in action hero mode yet, but I'm sure he's quite capable. No director as of yet; hopefully Fox won't bring out the B-team for this one.
