Whitney Houston 1963 - 2012
Nordling here.
Singer and actress Whitney Houston has died. Star of THE BODYGUARD (with Kevin Costner), THE PREACHER'S WIFE (with Denzel Washington), and WAITING TO EXHALE, her albums sold millions around the world. She also sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991, and it was tremendously good:
Her movie career wasn't a long list, but she was in some significant box office hits. THE BODYGUARD, especially, made many millions of dollars, and has lots of fans around the world: It also spawned a very popular song, "I Will Always Love You", a cover of a Dolly Parton song from THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS:
Whitney Houston actually had finished another film at the time of her death, called SPARKLE, starring Jordin Sparks. Whitney was playing her mother. It's wrapped and scheduled for release later this year.
Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.
Nordling, out.

Possibly among the top ever. What a wonderful voice.
-
You know, before the crack cocaine. Such a shame.
-
It's so sad that someone with so much talent go so far so fast. I wish celebrities and people in general would just leave the drugs alone.
-
Yeah she coined that phrase.
-
Damn,i just read the news in IMDB. What can i say,Showbiz ate one more of its children.
-
In some ways, her career paralleled Judy Garland's...amazing young talent undone by success, propelled by substance abuse. It's a helluva drug. RIP.
-
She had talent. As a child of the 80's her songs, while not targeted at me, were dance pop at it's second best(behind Madonna).
-
hes the one that should be dead, not poor whitney
-
...I...and you know how it goes.
-
Not to make light of that, but how she has survived all this time when people like Houston who, despite all the jokes thrown her way over the years managed to climb out of the mire in a sense, boggles.
-

Maya Rudolph is hosting SNL soon. I'm sure she was planning on doing her famous Houston impression. That obviously won't happen now.

-
She took the character of Rachael as I'd written on the page and converted her to something none of us had expected, The role would have been lesser with another talent behind it. Miss Houston i applaud you, you will be missed
-
Fuck.

No matter what you think of her as a person. The Woman had an amazing voice in her day. You can't deny that.
by Orionsangels
She had one of the greatest female singing voices ever heard. Whitney Houston's performance at Super Bowl XXV in 1991 is still the greatest version ever sung of the National Anthem.

how the fuck does Bobby Brown get to outlive Whitney? how is that fair? RIP Whitney, one of the best singers ever.

and every blood sucking parasite that has sold, provided, or given her drugs, allowed her to use them and never really tried to actually do anything to help her, while living in her shadow, off the little money she had left after her down spiral.

Now all it takes to be famous is being stupid or provocative. There are no Whitneys on the rise. Our generation may be the last to remember times when people worked hard at their talents.
-
never tried it, but I'll take her word for it. R.I.P.
-
They start believing their own hype, and it's the beginning of the end. Don't know if that was Houston's deal, but it looked like it from a distance.
-
R.I.P Miss Houston.
-
What's the warning? "Drugs kill." Yeah, no shit, plenty of "Warnings" came before Whitney, and with some much better people too, she was a rich person who felt sorry for herself and decided to turn to drugs, we should all have such bad luck. If anything, this is just another example of the spoiled nature of the elite. Life is more than money, and Whitney was given many gifts. The ONLY sad part of this is a great gift was wasted so selfishly. My heart goes out to her family, but sorry, I have no sympathy for her. And don't blame this on Bobby Brown! Yeah, he's clearly a gigantic prick, but SHE chose to be with him, SHE chose to take drugs, NOT Bobby. Life is tough and filled with bad influences, even if you have money, suck it up and deal with it. All I'll say is thanks for some good music Whitney, R.I.P.
-
i mean she is like, the perfect sucessor to shirley bassey
-
You got that right. Today, people who are good at karaoke or make a shitty youtube video are eleveated overnight to star status. Whitney had to genuine goods.
-
Rest in Peace.

locke815 What really scares me is how many of today's popstars...
by tangcameo
...now started their careers on Mickey Mouse Club (Britney, Xtina, etc etc) or Kids Incorporated (Fergie). Now the pop stars are being set up with kids shows then bring out albums. All these record producers look at Britney and Fergie and now they spawn their own versions in Selena Gomez and whoever the hell else is there. I want Top 40 musicians who had a childhood. Who grew up first and then travelled in a cheap van and sang in bars and actually know how to write a song and compose music and don't have it pre-made for them.

by phifty2
...her version of "I Will Always Love You" is great.
-
Actually, that question makes perfect sense, maybe you should read it again. I'm not sure what your point was. "How the fuck did she not get to do a Bond film?" What's wrong with that question? My answer would be she's too popular, Halle Berry got to do one and it didn't work, fuck that!
-
There was a new wave band in the early 80's called The Judys who were about to go national when the lead singer decided to quit after seeing the likes of Belinda Carlisle and Fred Schneider backstage fatigued and snorting coke. Now could of been rockstar David Bean is a shit upon 6th grade science teacher in Alvin, Texas--but unlike Whitney--alive and well.

Nope... Great Voice... I'm guessing if it wasn't a straight up od...it was a heart attack or stroke brought on by 20+ years of hardcore drug use. Nope...not shocked in the least.

you gullible motherfuckers... But she still was incredibly talented and back when pop stars did have talent and were not just manufactured because they had big tits and were marketable.

Awful to see someone as talented and sweet as her get mixed up with a lowlife like Bobby Brown and have him drag her down to his level. RIP.

I once heard her sing "The Greatest Love of All" live on TV in '91, and she was just spectacular. That's how I want to remember her.

To all those blaming Bobby Brown should know that Whitney was abusing cocaine years before dating/marrying Bobby....
by Amadeo Zeller
They both met at the Betty Ford Rehab Center. Whitney for cocaine and Bobby for alcohol abuse...And lets' not forget that Whitney was Bobby's senior by 7 or 8 years. This whole notion that Bobby lead Whitney astray is nothing more than an URBAN MYTH. It was Whitney who introduced hard drugs to Bobby, not vice versa...During Whitney's very public drug haze during the early 2000's, it was a known fact that she had graduated from cocaine to Crystal Meth, which subsequently did irreparable harm to not only her throat, but also her vocal chords. I always shake my head when I read/hear all of these falsehoods directed at Bobby. Trust, he had nothing to do with Whitney's downfall, he just happened to be there, and since, Arista and Clive Davis had so much invested in Whitney's career and public image, it was just advantageous for them and Whitney to have Bobby bear the brunt of the bad publicity due to his (already) well publicized BAD BOY IMAGE.

This is awful news. RIP and condolences, esp. to Cissy Houston.
by justmyluck
If this had happened during her BODYGUARD era, it would have been a Marilyn Monroe-like tragedy. Instead, it comes as no surprise after watching her voice and body go for so long. So fuck the hard drug makers and dealers from profiting from the misery and death dealing, all the while excusing it all with *the good times*. Assholes.

There's no fucking way in hell she lip synced at the Super Bowl
by Mel
are you fucking kidding me? No one in the history of mankind could possibly lip sync that good..there's no fucking steady beat to go along with. how could she possibly hit any of those cues? It's utterly impossible.
-
Oh wait....she was a hard-core crackhead for years. What I meant to say was,I cant believe she lasted this long. In her memory I'm going to fire up itunes and blare Queens beloved classic,ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST. Dont be sad America....according to Dionne Warwick,Whitney is just a psychic phone call away!!!!!
-
... what she did do is sing live into a dead microphone. While the pre-recorded Star-spangled Banner played over the speakers and on television. The people standing around her at that moment heard a live performance. The people in the stands and us at home heard the pre-recorded performance. But as many who knew of Whitney's tremendous talent, it makes little difference. Her version of our National Anthem remains the gold-standard, as well as the standard for how the perfect woman's voice should sound. I love you, Whitney, since I was a little boy in the 80's, I loved you. You were a luminous beauty, and I wished to God you never met Bobby Brown, but you did, and now, the damage he did to your mind, body, and soul is complete. Find peace.
-
Keep her the hell away from Eva Cassidy.
-
U hate us cause U ain't us.

While this one was about as hard to predict as Michael Jackson's demise, it's still incredibly sad. Yet another woman undone by her lousy taste in men. Someday, women will finally realize that we're all good-for-nothing douchebags.

Why do some tremendously gifted people destroy themselves? Damn. Still, she brought nothing but joy to so many. God and Goddess bless her. I hope she's in Heaven/Summerland now.

The reality of the situation speaks for itself. Before she was with him she was a well mannered (although she was a diva behind closed doors) and docile swan. About 5 years into the realtionship she completely changed as did her vocal range.

by The Founder
It's pathetic when one makes nasty and. Rude remarks about anyone's death. Regardless of your feelings she is someone's mother, sister, daughter and friend. Put yourself in her family's shoes and wonder how you'd feel if you read nasty comments about your love one that no one knew save whats reported in the media. Even though her death is due in part to her own actions she still deserves respect if no other reason then she is a human being, one of god's children

you are not black. black people do not call themselves "nigger". never. ever. sure they say "niggA" but not nigger. and if you cant even hear the difference between a word ending in "er" or "a", youre an idiot but if you want to prove that you are black (or a "nigger"), then post a picture of yourself (you dont even have to include your face) with a piece of paper that says "i am a loser who pretends to be black" if I dont see a picture of a black person with those exact words, then we know youre just a sad loser who wants to pretend to be black online so he can be racist towards your own "race"... I would blow it out my ass if it wasnt true nigger is a term white people (or racists) use for racist reasons. nigga is a term of endearment (I dont care if you agree if calling someone a nigga is endearing or not) used by black people. if Im wrong, then provide an audio of any black person using the word nigger (especially in the way you used it). you will not find anything. now, I can find millions of lyrics, quotes, and essays with the word nigga (being used the way you used it). hell, just watch Pulp Fiction and listen to how any white actor says "nigger" and how Samuel Jackson or Ving Rhames say "nigga" in short, be proud of your italian, irish, german, whatever european nationality. no need to pretend. PS: Im still waiting for the photographic evidence of you being black... since you are black... and have the internet... it shouldnt be hard for you to post a pic of your ethnicity

Logged on, Drudge opens and BAM! Whitney Houston's dead. And she was only 48. Such a shame. I can't say I was a fan of hers but her talents were undeniable. She really did have a great voice. Too bad she pissed away her career after marrying that sleazey little turd and got hooked on drugs (crack is whack, ya'll). Still, when she was at the top of her game she was nigh untouchable. Such a damn shame, it really and truly is. God be with you, Ms. Houston. Now if ya'll will pardon me for being a cynical asshole, we're going to see endless repeats of The Bodyguard from now until Doomsday. Between that and what I expect to be a surge in album sales and radio play her kids will be set for fookin' life with the incoming royalties.
-
..I have a feeling (don't kill the messenger, I could be wrong) that there's an off chance Whitney Houston's death may have been (gasp) ... drug-related. I know, right? Sorry, I just can't think of her without replaying the only time I ever channel surfed by her and Bobby's reality show at the exact moment when they were talking about how sometimes one had to help the other out by sticking a finger up the other's anus to dig out some poop nuggets. That actually happened. Poop nuggets. Now that's love.
-
maybe because I am moreso a Bobby B fan (from New Edition to solo work on Ghostbusters 2 to acting a fool in Thin Line Between Love and Hate) but I cant blame BB for anything regarding Whitney she was a grown woman. she has a functional brain. when does personal accountability come in? sure, if BB physically drugged her up and then she died from that drugging, Bobby will be blamed... but she worked in the business where theres hundreds/thousands of people who couldve got her into the same situation... now regards to him hitting her, thats fucked up, but her death is entirely her fault (or God's, if you believe in God) PS: BOBBY B!
-
This breaks my heart. God bless her soul. Thank you Whitney for what you brought to this earth.
-
I bet NO ONE here thought of her for a nano second before the news hit
-
Another life cut short by drugs. Chris Farley, John Belushi, River Phoenix, Jimi Hendrix. The list goes on & on.
-
you can't take a bull whip to bobby brown for robbing the world of one of it's treasures
-
You trolls on her with your bull shit are really pathetic. The guy saying he doesn't like Whitney Houston because he doesn't like rap and is black is a white kid living in the midwest. But who cares. Big time loss. Whitney was great and that is all.
-
You can not blame BB. It is not is fault. Were they good together? No. But you can't point the finger at him. She was a star in the music industry in the 80-90's where drugs were everywhere. Shame. It makes me angry. When you are given a gift such as that and you purposely and systematically destroy it, it is as if you are spitting in the face of god.
-
She was always on the radio and tv. my favourite song and video of hers http://goo.gl/4frNu Damm she looked great, fresh faced, fun and gorgeous. Truly Awful that this industry that nurtures some phenomenal talent, makes a shed load of cash from them, doesn't see fit to look after those that have lost their way, can't cope or need that extra support. If you have problems folks, speak to someone about them, don't self destruct. What a fucking waste. RIP Whitney.
-
Could kill.
Sad? Yes. But only in the entertainment industry would a person get all these gibberish 'so sudden' fucking platitides. Her record company are probably happy as bloody larry this morning - ching ching. Ive seen people with habits kick it - but even then they get viewed with unease by society. Be able to sing though and you become a 'tortured artist with creative demons blah blah'.
Sad but no sympathy. She had more chances than most will ever have
-
And this surprises the world?? She has been a train-wreck on fire, heading for a dead end for years. Play with drugs, face the consequences. Yeah.....she had a great voice at one time. I wish I had all the talent and opportunities that were given to her during her life, that she swapped for drugs.
-

Feel bad for her kid.
-
The more we sit around celebrating idiots who kill themselves the more likely your next celeb favourite is to go the same way. I'm convinced half of these morons think its somehow romantic to go out this way. The more we eviscerate these fuckwits with headlines like "Latest Celebrity Idiot Tops Themselves" the less likely others are to follow suit. Oh and all her fucking entourage should be jailed for aiding and abetting.
-
I wish she'd been able to pull it together and save herself. :-(
-
Both as a operson and as an artist. She had an incredible voice, but wasted in the most abject songs imaginable. Her huge sucess might have been what eventually killed her. Her whole life was a lesson on what not to do when you get to be very rich and sucessful. Her death is a tragedy for those who loved her, who were her friends, her family, her fans. It's a sad affair. But i'm going to lie npretent to say i'll miss her, becasue i don't. In fact, i counted as a small blessing whe she finally stoped being on the air and her songs constantly on airplay. No, i never liked her. That's how it is.
-
And that's the tragedy right there, isn't it? Becasue she could had been brillant with such a career she wanted at the begining. It might had not made her a huge star and super-rich, but it could see her as a legit artist that way. Now that's the real tragedy right there, the waste of a talent. Which her whole life was, a waste of a talent for unconsequential bullshit.

maxcherry: "when you have a good man right in front of your face that you ignore or treat like shit"
by AsimovLives
Ah, the old "let us just be friends, i like you as a friend/brother/designated driver while i'm drunk" bullshit thing! A classing among the womenfolk. Some say many women are hardwired to fall for the bad boy (aka douchbag) type, and it takes a tremendous act of willpower to smart up and counteract on such impulses. The guys have a version of that when some dream of a bad dirty gal as their prefered type. Which is also bullshit, because fuck hell if you are going to be the guy who will show her a proper good time, because you aren't.
-
Seriously. And the hillbilly "RIP" crap.
-
Not only his Big Valley and other tv roles but he was in Shock Corridor, The Crawling Hand and The Sword and The Sorcerer That is enough credit to earn Geek respect, along with Whitney
-
I wouldn't go as far as to count her death as a small blessing because I don't care for her Music (Which I really don't.) However, she had it all and wasted her fame, riches and support for that piece of shit Bobby Brown who of course got her hooked on drugs. If anything, I can't really feel too bad for her as there are thousands of people who have been diagnosed with an terminal illness and would never have taken their lives for granted. Whitney did the opposite and threw it all away. Can't wait for the Lohan obit. Regardless, Whitney you are now at Peace.

There's so much crap in this Talkback, Bobby Brown couldn't reach up in it and yank it out.
by Subtitles_Off
Whitney Houston began her career as a fashion "super"model. She was raised to sing in a household by a recording artist mother. She had family members and close family friends positioned in the industry to nepotistically clear her path. She had the ability to use her lungs and mouth to make pleasant sounds. Her brand of pop bubblegum --- from the people who brought you Lionel Ritchie --- was harmless and forgettable. She abused herself with drugs and was dismissed a few years ago after a disastrous comeback tour. (There's plenty of video of that, too! There's even video of her half-assing it through The National Anthem. As long as you've got your patriotism on, go watch THAT and get back to me.) Her legacy is the overblown screeching melisma we are all bludgeoned with continuously today. Greatest singer ever? In the long, long, long line of great jazz, pop, soul and rock vocalists, Whitney was standing way back, right next to, oh, I dunno, Anne Wilson of Heart. There's got to be a reason there isn't a single recording of hers you can name which could be described as under-produced. Surprising? Yes. (Either the shock of it or the surprise that it didn't happen years ago. Cocaine is a helluva drug.) Sad? Well, OK, but I still think sadness is an emotion we should all reserve for when we really need it, else it's meaningless. Tragic? Please. ♫ ♪ I wanna dance with somebody ♪ ♫

Who knows, maybe once there was a nice girl in her who ws lead astray. Somewhere in the 80s. Let her life be a lesson to Janet Jackson and Alicia Keys. Now that's two women with real talent that deserve their sucess (though Keys' latest albums are tasking my good will toward her).

People pretending to say they liked and respect somebody they truly despised as na artist/filmmaker,/actor/athlet/whatever just because he/she died. Death is always a tragedy, but to change one's tune just to look good is something i'm not cool with.
-
and instead of simply shuting the fuck up and show some respect
-
Tragic? Yes, indeed, Housten's life and death is tragic in the classical sense of the word. A person in the highest ranks of society endures suffering and/or death due to some personal flaw or mistake is a classical definition of tragedy.
-
So you're a fan. In that case, i'm sorry. It's not her death that i see as tragedy, but her life. She could had been so much better. She was a great singer, but a terrible artist and an irritating prima donna. Her life is the tragedy.
-
A simple definition of tragedy, as seen by the ancient greeks who created it, is a story that starts happy, but though the flaws and hubris of the protagonist and the foul plays of the fates, it ends in despair and death. As such, Whitney Hoston life was a tragery in the classic sense. She started on top and with great promise, but her own personal flaws, all the circunstances regarding her sucess, a very troubled romance history and an addiction to one of the worst drugs know to Man brough her down. Her life is ripe for a telling, movie or TV show.
-
You might not agree, but i actually show more respect for somebody by mantaining the same position i have with them dead as when they were alive. It prevents me from feeling like an hypocrite.

by Subtitles_Off
Thanks for the definition of Tragedy as pertaining to theatrical drama, Aristotle. Appropriate, since all this sappy, sentimental hand-wringing that always accompanies the death of someone famous is capital-D drama. Made-up fantasy. In the real world, tragedy is the result of the unexpected chaos that ruins innocent --- at least, unsuspecting --- lives. I saw this scenario when my mother was dying in the hospice in dublin and in my own home. and fairly recently too i might add. I might not have been a big fan of Whitney huston or her music. but she is dead and her family are utterly devastated. happens to us all. believe me. we all loose someone close to us. and I have lost three major members of my family in the previous decade. my mother and my gran in a six month period. then my paternal uncle then my dad. my dads 2nd older bro.

JUST like they did with Michael Jackson, he was scum alive, but dead suddenly the greatest thing to walk this earth. Which is it, Morons? I was never a fan, not going to say something fake here now. What a shock it was to learn of her death. Like many of us Gen X'ers in here, we grew up with her during the 80's and 90's during her best stuff. I remember being blown away by her voice when I saw the music video for "I Will Always Love You". I never bought an album of hers or even listened to her regularly, but I always held great respect and admiration for her talent.
-
Not dishonest. Death has a way of putting things into perspective. It is true with the people you know or knew in your lives. It is true with people who contribute to our society and culture but we don't know personally. Unless you are a vindictive sort or the person deeply hurt you personally, what always rises to the top is what we liked about a person and their humanity. The negative stuff always seems petty and unimportant.

Good point, but most people take it to the extreme and even if the person was rotten, (not saying WH was, but still) those traits are ignored and the fake, flowerly sentiments began flowing. These very same people couldn't say those sentiments to the person when they were alive, so why now when they cant hear them... THAT to me is dishonest, when the obvious is ignored. A great talent, squandered on lousy men, drugs and shit life choices. A word of caution- That should be the lesson we all take from this. The worst part of all of this, Entertainment Tonight will have 2 years worth of news stories about this. "Move over Anna Nichol, Whitney is taking over..."

Unfortunately the older we get, the more we see it happening.

And that is greatest and saddest irony of the living. Dishonest? I still don't think so. Rather it is a blindness that is part of human nature. The cliche is true; we don't understand what we have until it is lost. In "Poetics" Aristotle describes anagnorisis--the moment in which the tragic figure faces the awful truth about himself or herself. Oedipus' blindness, for example. In real life tragedy of sudden and shocking death, we, the living, have a sudden recognition of what that person actually meant to us. We see what we couldn't see before.

Well, she's jossed it. Can't say it was a big surprise. The main consensus on t'interwebs seems to be that she was fucked the day she met Bobby Brown. Whilst that may be true (in more ways than one, fnarr fnarr) and Bobby Brown may have been a bad influence, it was her decision to make drugs the centre of her life and her choice alone. Am I sorry she's dead? Yes. She was a fantastic talent, had a great voice (pre '95 anyway) and, even though her rise to fame was pretty much guaranteed and engineered by nepotism, she made some classic songs. I'm also thinking of her family and friends at this time. But I also believe that our grief is misdirected. Why don't we mourn the soldiers who are putting their lives on the line for us every day? Enough of them are dying but because they're not famous and in the public eye, their deaths seem much less important to the media and the celebrity-junk-fed-masses than someone who could carry a tune. I wish to this day I never met the guy as before I met him I never bothered with the stuff. But to single that guy out over why I went nuts is foolhardy.

Doesn't always mean you should........ Although I can see the point of view that says there are people dying for "worthier" causes, when society is brainwashed to consider entertainers in a higher esteem then a sincere [though some would argue disproportionate] reaction is to be expected isn't it?, It's an extension of the Princess Diana blueprint. A sad day for all of her fans and those who appreciated her music. Hope The AICN nation is in good health.............

Dolly recorded the song long before THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS. It was originally released in 1974. She then re-recorded it for the soundtrack to THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, and re-recorded it again as a duet with Vince Gill in 1995. It was, is, and always will be DOLLY'S signature song, which she wrote as her goodbye to Porter Wagoner. Whitney Houston may have had the biggest hit with it, but Dolly laughed all the way to the bank since as its songwriter she got the lion's share of the royalties.

Let me check my give-a-crap meter . . . Yep. Just as I suspected. Still resting on zero.
-
Now this is an absolute fact, even if none of you know it: Whitney was smoking that shit before she met Bobby Brown. Some of you may be old enough to remember when Whitney was dating Eagles QB Randall Cunningham, a real Jesus freak if there ever was one. Theirs was a relationship that received a good amount of media attention. Then out of the blue, he breaks off the relationship, without a reason why. Baffled everyone. It wasn't until Whitney admitted to her drug abuse, years later, that Cunningham spoke out about why the relationship ended. She loved cocaine more than him. When she met Bobby Brown, he was a pothead and a drunk AT THE MOST. He later corroborated in his autobiography what everyone who knew them closely knew: she got HIM smoking crack. Some people are just rotten, no matter how valuable their talents.

thenotoriousdrb, you almost mirrore what amado zeller posted last night on this same thread...
by victor_von_gloom
Feb 11, 2012 10:48:08 PM CST To all those blaming Bobby Brown should know that Whitney was abusing cocaine years before dating/marrying Bobby.... by amadeo zeller They both met at the Betty Ford Rehab Center.
-
IDD that Whitney was already partying well before BB. It is amazing how we play around with our lives just to get high. I have done a lot of cocaine almost exclusively because of pussy. Why Whitney would waste her time smoking crack with the life she had is hard to fathom for someone like me who has really nothing compared to her.
-
you are nuts!!! bobby brown was a piece of shit. he was smoking crack long before he met whitney. his AUTOBIOGRAPHY, was a bald face LIE!!!!

I know...who's David Kelly? It's not a name most people here will be familiar with. Most of you will know him as Charlie's grandfather in Tim Burton's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Is this the blowback which comes with a Hollywood celebrity getting trampled on the way down? Is it that Houston was a vocalist and didn't *do it all* like Lady Gaga? Is it that people think it's easy to quit crack, coke, meth, booze or even smoking cigarettes? Damned if I know.

by The Founder
-
...to get azultool laid.
-
Diane Sawyer asked Whitney about her $737 Thousand Dollar Drug Habit in the infamous, "Crack is Whack" interview with Whitney which she denied stating, "Lemme see the receipts". at I'd like to know is, now that Whitney's gone, Who's gonna call the cops on Bobby B? As far as his culpability in her decline and death, He does have to take some of the responsibility for this. She's a big girl but he was a bad influence and even if she wanted to quit, he doesn't and you can't have a relationship with an addict and an addict trying to get clean. And that's just a normal relationship. Whitney was a super star and Bobby Brown was already starting to fade when they hooked up and I'm sure his ego was threatened by her fame that he so desperately wanted to keep. I never watched much of their reality show because it was too much to see Whitney like that. I'm betting they were both high through out that series. According to the news, she was found nekkid in the bathtub and no illegal drugs were found, just prescription meds, which seems to be more and more prevalent in OD deaths. In fact, prescription drugs are the #1 killer besides tobacco and alcohol, which are both legal. Whitney, Michael J (Apparently Whitney was preparing to go on a major comeback tour like Michael when she died. She was staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel because she was a guest at Clive Davis' Grammy Party which was the same night she died.), Heath Ledger, Amy Winehouse, Corey Haim, Brittany Murphy, Mikey Welsh (bass, weezer), I mean, the list goes on. Apparently, the Government will legalize all the drugs they want you to die from. That's the problem with legalizing pot. No one dies from it. no upside for the Government.

They were so joyful together.

I met them at the Reach Out & Touch HIV rally in London in 1991, organised by Vernal Scott. Whitney spoke very movingly; supporting people with HIV, when many other stars kept their distance.

She was pressured into the Bobby Brown marriage. Disaster. Her life started going downhill soon afterwards. Whitney’s death is a tragic loss".

I don't ban many people, but I just had to do it someone in the Adam Adamowicz obit. Obits are monitored a bit more rigidly, at least from me. When you've gotten emails and phone calls from the families of the people who have passed away and you know they read these articles it really puts your tolerance for assholes in obits down to the bare minimum. Not saying D. Vader was an asshole. I wasn't there when that happened, didn't see what was said, but just know that while we tend to try to let TBs take care of themselves Obits aren't the place to test the fences of this "freedom." I put "freedom" in quotes, by the way, because this is a forum on a privately owned site. We like talkback to be as wide-ranging as possible and I don't personally ban people for attacks on me (unless they become very nasty and or hugely frequent, derailing the discussion on a particular subject), but it's not your right to be able to comment on news stories. It just isn't. If we did police these boards we'd be within our rights to, but like I said we like the wild west feel and like seeing the talkbackers themselves shame those that show up spewing racist stupid shit.
-
on this board for being so honest. Over on Facebook, I'm promoting Obama's re-election. In debates, I mention the racial animus behind about 10% of the opposition, and many independents parrot the "we're post-racial" argument to prove I must be wrong. I merely posted a link to this talkback, and said "read for yourselves." Had three people express shock and dismay, and agree that I was righter than they thought. Three more votes for Obama! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

by Michael Lunney
But we are all godless - in the religious sense- unless you still believe in the Easter bunny. Man created god- there are infinite numbers of gods that man worships - all stemming from stories, a need to feed emotional deficits, and fear of the unknown. Before you give me some kneejerk religious hatred, i do believe in a higher order -just not the bullshit stories that man calls god. I was raised Catholic, and overcame the indoctrination at the age of 12, to start thinkning for myself. Religious *worship* in this country is largely the province of social functions, mind control with dogma, politrical power, and hatred. And of course, some churches selflessly help their fellow man, and that is the only reason I do not totally condemn religious practice. But, of course, most normal people do not need religion to teach them that the golden rule makes more sense than being an asshole to your fellow maqn.. But if that spiritual, higher order exists - it would be beyond our comprehension as humans. And if we were exposed to it, our simple minds would merely simlpify it as an experience, rather than experience it. So, let me leave you with this thought. If the Earth is a sentient being, what does the Earth consider as a higher order? The same thing as humans? Not likely. BTW, I loath racists.
-
And not because of "Kiss my black ass" Whitney. Bitch stopped being reevant like 30 years ago so I don't know so many people seem to care about her now. Anyway...my baby mama and her whole family are dyed-in-the-wool, hardcore catholics. I mean they seriously just sit around thinking about Jesus and start crying. It's fucking bizarre. So I'm over at her family's house and my son is kind of tired and he's "so done" with high chairs (he's 1 1/2). He's putting up a bit of a fit as we try to put him into one. So the scene is me, his mother and her mother all wrestling the kid into the chair so I can overcome the arcane seatbelt thingee, and he's crying. So his grandma says "Stop being naughty". Now, to you folks that haven't had kids yet, that means nothing. I get pretty irritated. It's not my son's fault that he's upset. He's communicating that he's unhappy and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not fucking NAUGHTY! And all I could think was that it's that fucking catholic horseshit. We're all born fucking evil and we all need the good beaten into us from birth. It's horseshit! So in their catholic pea brains, the devil is wrasslin' with my boy and it's up to them to drive him out. The REALITY is, he doesn't want to get strapped into a chair! I wouldn't either! So yeah, FUCK CATHOLICS up their stupid pious asses! Go cry in the corner because a hippie got beaten up 2000 years ago and leave the rest of us the fuck alone!

purgatory, confessionals, solid gold jesus blood chalices, hosts, catholic cannibalism ---- mindless symbolic worship for imaginary beings I think the true test of, whether or not we are ever visited by intelligent, extraterrestrial life, will be when mankind finally says: FUCK RELIGION- what the fuck were we ever thinking with this bullshit! I don't know how many of you know, Whitney was Dionne Warwick's neice
by Jaster Mareel
To most people Dionne Warwick was the host of Solid Gold, a late 70's/Early 80's song and dance revue show. Apparently she was also a big-shit singer or something way back in the day, but I don't think I've ever heard one of her songs. Anyway, I didn't have an opinion one way or the other aside from "Damn she got some big-assed horse teeth", until I saw her on The Apprentice a year or so ago. What a fucking CUNT! I mean she fucked up every project and just bitched and bitched and bitched and couldn't understand why everyone wasn't lining up to suck her twat. I fucking CHEERED when she finally got fired. Maybe, if you don't care enough to even make her accomplishments sound as good as they are, you shouldn't do it. Of the difference between rooting for the home team (tribalism, which most people have) and cursing or cheating the "other" team (racism, which danielno, sierratango, and asi have in common). Whitney Houston dies and the world loses a beautiful and talented woman A few months back some cable channel is playing one of the Richard Pryor live shows. I got in late and missed a bunch. But I did catch the part where he talks about his dobies That bit always tears me up Somewhere along the line I realize that my cheeks are burning Wipe my face and there are hot hot tears running down my face Upon reflection I realize it was a completely selfish reaction I knew then that I would never ever see any new Richard Pryor Poor me, life is so unfair I would like to sign this: Skinny White Boy PS: Both of these entertainers didn't break down walls They Obliterated Them

Yup...........here we go again. The racial egalitarian police have shown up again.
by DanielnocharismaCraig
Don't say anything offensive about anyone. Let's all just hold hands and sing some Air Supply or REO Speedwagon. Seriously, I can't imagine your version of heaven. Probably Susan Sarandon rimming Richard Pryor while listening to her husband rattling off on the most boring liberal cliches out there. What a hell that must be. Self Righteous doesn't even begin to cover what your general attitude must be. First off, I was making a comparison and pointing out the usual hypocrisy of the moral supremacists out there. And the Samuel Jackson/Mel Gibson quote was the most contemporary analogy I could come up with. I don't need to point out the nitwits who are my detractors as they obviously know who they are. So to conclude with my first paragraph, even if the world somehow ignores the racial realities out there, and buries their collective heads in the sand, the world will still be a jacked up place. No matter what.
-
The entire world has been racist for thousands of years. Ignoring history won't change that. And no, it hasn't been whites racist against others but in fact the very opposite. I've seen more racism emit from blacks than any other people. Racism that is against East Asians and Latins in particular. Remember Rodney King riots and the Korean convenience store owners that were protecting their property against the Planet of the Apes? Just one example amongst many.
-
Yeah, Whitney was no Sinatra when it came to the screen, but her effect on the music industry was just as dramatic. She wasn't just some pop princess, she broke ground for the successes of Mariah and Beyonce, and black women in pop music. She's up there with Aretha, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. If Nordling can't understand that, he shouldn't be the one writing her obit. This reads like the career of Bobby Brown.
-
He was a SAG recipient. And 82. What a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

quote: "Remember Rodney King riots and the Korean convenience store owners that were protecting their property against the Planet of the Apes? Just one example amongst many. " Dude, you have serious issues. Oh, and no one here would say that Blacks can't be Racists, however the threat lies within the Racists who weld absolute power, like Employers who would turn down a promotion because of one's skin color/ethinicity. Or how about Police officers who tells some guy to pull over especially if he happens to see a Black Man driving an expensive automobile (BMW) and worse, if he;s accompanied by a White Female. Those that would destroy their own townships out of outrage are idiots. No self respecting Black or Hispanic person would do something that is so counter productive. (Actually, it's doing White racists a favor.) If you are proud to be a Racist, that's on you. But remember, "People who live in Glass houses..." In other words: No one is better than anyone b/c it's the Human Race that is both good and Fucked up. And that's my Final thought.

Tribalism is the tendency to cheer for your own team. Racism is the tendency to spit on the other team. Almost everyone is "tribalistic" but only toxic trolls like Danielnocharisma, Sierratango, Asimovlives and a few others are actively racist. Biiiig difference. Blacks are certainly as tribalistic...but frankly, they're not quite as racist as I'd expect, given the violent and oppressive history in America. I suspect that this is because of the brainwashing: a totally disproportionate amount of positive imagery in movies, history, or the current culture are white people (including, of course, about every image on every piece of money in your pocket). Most blacks are Christians, which means they bow down in Church every Sunday to the image of a white man. Kinda hard to hate white people when you think God is white, y'know? But the venom you see from damaged souls like Danielnocharisma is pure fear--they know the demographics are changing, and are terrified they will be treated as they have treated others. Frankly, I hope they're right.
-
Hmmm, I never seen anything from him, that would state such claims. Opinionated, Stubborn and a bit insensitive? Hellz yea! But a Racist? I don't think so. Asis cool pppl. And contrary to what you may believe, he made a good comment in regards to Lt.Uhura/Nichelle Nicolas bringing Blacks in a positive spotlight (during the Civil Rights era) alongside MLK and MX. Don't even put him in the same catagory as those cunts Daniel and especially Sierrafoxtango. That's exaggerating my Friend.
-
Homophobic? That's another story. Although he does have a hard-on for Ryan Gosling in Drive.

While I would never condone the mindless violence of a riot
by Joe Plumber
It is disgraceful how police officers are repeatedly let off the hook for the violence they perpetrate. I mean there was video evidence of what they did to Rodney King. The whole world knows these men were not held accountable for the violent crime they committed. That said, can't we all just get along?

if they're rich.

I think it's a subtile primal insticnt as most mammals would gravitate toward a group/pack that would resmble them moreso than someone/something that is different. That being said, we as Humans are deemed progressive beings and as such, should be able to "mingle' with others that are different (Transcend Race, Color and Creed.) as oppossed to being so diversified. I often see the person for their content and not the color of their skin/ethnicity. However idiots like STFU and Daniel would comdemn a whole group of people for the actions of a few. Not progressive at all. Oh, and for the record, the Black Christains I knew believed that Jesus was Black (Skin of Bronze, Hair like Wool, etc.) instead of some arctypical Blonde hair Blue eyed Messaih. Tribalism, huh?
-
Sure he was definitely not blonde haired and blue eyed. Most likely dark-skinned with curly hair. But, he was an Israelite, not an African. The Africans, i.e. the Egyptians, persecuted and enslaved the Israelis long before the Romans subjugated them.

darh_meh, yeah it was unfortunate that those idiots got off the hook for the King beating.
by Stalkeye
Not that King deserved it, however he was irresponsible and DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) is not to be taken lightly. THis fucker was no Patron saint and no doubt, his actions caused all of this. The LAPD are pricks, but King was the Catalyst for the shit that went down. He can't be compared to Diallo. (the African Immigrant that was shot 41 Times by NYPD just for flashing his Wallet.) and despite the ruling, no one in NYC protested via Riots. I would know, because I lived in NYC back then. Causing a Riot is like saying, Oh I'm so mad at you that Burning my own House/Apt is my way of getting even with you. " So there!" Like I said, Riots are counter productive and serve no purpose other than opening a Sore further.

Hey Junior, Does your mommy know that you're using her computer? You little wart. I can't believe for a second that this douche bag (or any asshole on these talk backs like him) is a day older than twelve. Come on people let's get rid of these morons and use our "freedom of speech" for what it's worth. There's nothing even remotely important being said by any of these little retards. And that statement about people not being equipped for the real world if they can't handle these talk backs..... Please!!! That was clearly made by a kid...... These talk backs are littered with little runts with nothing better to do. There's nothing that can convince me that these people are adults, and if they are.... OHHH BOY!!! Fucking Losers.

brian boyd of the irish times music critic and founder of the choice music prize
by emeraldboy
said something really interesting about whitney houston. there were a lot of people in the music industry who were racist. Model, singer and actress. she simply never ended up on the cover of magazines because she was black. She started off in gospel music and founded almost impossible to bring that into pop music by the music execs who ghettoed her career down the pop avenue. and there were those in the gospel community who thought she betrayed her gospel routes. MTV was racist back in the day. and refused to play black artists. Micheal Jackson battled this by having his reps sue mtv into submission. Before the drugs killed her voice and then killed her. whitney houston had a very powerful voice. nobody who was with houston on the day she recorded that song knew it was coming.

when whitney houston walked into the recording studio to record I will always love
by emeraldboy
you. she fought off and resisted the song. studio put her under huge pressure do it. her career as a pop singer was faltering. the best version is by dolly parton. huston's version is commercial ballad pop. the song has been played to death. its possibly a muscial urban legend but when she delivered that title song line and did it so forcefully. the sound engineers were shocked and blown away...

hipshot is an idiot and also hates white people.
by DanielnocharismaCraig
Jesus christ was white? What a moron. Jesus christ, if he even lived during the classical roman era would have been most certainly a racial semite. And not racially white caucasion. Wow, what a moron you turned out to be. I've been debating a complete imbecile the whole time. Lol. No wonder I can't get past his thick skull. Hey buddy, nice antiwhite diatribe at the end there too. Celebrating the genocide of an entire people. And im the one with issues?

re: I mean there was video evidence of what they did to Rodney King
by Have_Penis_Will_Travel
Do you mean the massively edited video that portrays RK as a helpless victim or the unedited one that shows a whacked out hulking 300 lb man refusing to comply with lawful orders from law enforcement officials? And just to be sure, this is the same Rodney King that has been stopped, arrested and released unprosecuted dozens of times since that video? This is the same Rodney King that will never be held accountable for his actions until he in a drunken or whacked out state takes out a bus full of school children? Is this that Rodney King?
-
100,000 angry greeks revolting because of the 2nd imposed bailout from the troika is far more important than the death of a black pop singer... and yet what was leading the headlines in the uk and elsewhere.... No the death of whitney houston. and not athens going up in smoke.... the most powerful image was a police officer with his leg on fire as he attempted to deal with the riots...
