Nice And Splattery MACHETE KILLS Promo Art!!

Published at:  Feb 09, 2012 11:04:53 AM CST

Merrick here...

ComingSoon has this promotional art for MACHETE KILLS - seems the material has been circulating around the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.

This is the Danny Trejo-starring sequel to 2010's Robert Rodriguez / Ethan Maniquis directed MACHETE, which itself originated as a trailer included in GRINDHOUSE

The new films is said to find Machete in Mexico, battling his way towards a bat-shit-crazy arms dealer who is gonna spoil the world with war, and has a some sort of space weapon to back up his ambitions. This reference to a space weapon is interesting, as Rodriguez has previously indicated that a potential third MACHETE film would send the character into space.  Is MACHETE KILLS a set-up for this gag?

Here's the artwork - CLICK IT for an EMBIGGENABLE version.

    Frankly, I was pretty disappointed

    by monroville

There is just something about the vast majority of Robert Rodriguez' movies that are.. for lack of a better word... boring. Production values are decent and I REALLY respect his 10-minute film shops (and what he does in a frikkin garage!), but the pacing is always sluggish and the actors/actresses give stilted, wooden or just plain slow performances.

I like Danny Trejo and loved what he did in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO (I'm a Mexi-CAN), but Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ was he a plank of wood in MACHETE.

And let's not get started on the whole "We didn't cross the border! The border crossed US!" Yeah... because it's an honorable thing to do to ditch your country to exploit the social services of another one (or beat up the natives on Cinco de Mayo for wearing the flag of the country you're currently living in. Anyone remember the Irish beating up other Americans for wearing/displaying the American flag during St. Paddy's Day? Me neither). Remember how patriotic OUTIM was? If only Mexicans really felt that way (sigh).

Ah well... I'm just wondering how Robert is going to shoe-horn in a white villain this time.

    by kidicarus

It's about time someone actually discusses the bloody drug war in film (i.e. from 2008-Present), and I wouldn't hold my breath on anyone else doing it, and the Mexican media is too afraid to bring it up much more than "50 people killed in [Insert City], no arrests were made".

When the drug wars spill onto american soil, i know some has already, but not i a big way, Then the media wont be able to get enough of it. Its a sad truth but the media thinks that as long as its mexicans killing mexicans then americans dont really care. which to be fair is probably true...i read an article that said juarez is the murder capital of the world but that el paso( i think el paso) just across the border was one of the safest cities in the country. Apparently the cartels dont want the violence spilling over because of the extra attention and there inability to control the american media the way they do the mexicans

    by domi'sinnerchild

That was a good point. It was nice to see like when Raimi did A Simple Plan and The Gift and then go back to trying to make popcorn movies. RR, we get it. You are an expert at slapstick cartoon movies for grownups and kids. Sin City showed he can get good performances out his actors. It would be interesting to see him expand on that and make a movie without any explosions as a crutch.

Sin City is the best comic book movie in that

    by mugato5150

it was best at translating a comic book or excuse me, graphic novel (don't want to offend anyone) onto the big screen. Better for example than literally painting comic book panels and dialog bubbles on the screen like Ang Lee's fucking hulk movie. Whether it was a better film than The Dark Knight, which technically was based on a comic book but was more of a Michael Mann crime drama, is academic.

I never thought the fake trailers in Grindhouse needed to literally be made into actual films. We got the joke. Actually making full length features out of them was very redundant.

What's my point? Make the Sin City sequel and get Carla Gugino naked again.

I liked Sin City as much as anyone, but it had the books as storyboards. I suppose I like From Dusk Till Dawn. But beyond that what has he done that's worth talking about? His Desperado films were somewhat fun but got dumber and dumber with each one. Spy Kids, Shark Boy & the whole kids movie phase has been awful, and he's still trying to push them on us. I just don't get it (And yes, I've seen all his films)

    by mugato5150

it wasn't a big part and it wasn't Shakespeare but he played a straight role and had a scene where he asked DeNiro to kill him because his girl was killed and he was forced to rat out the crew. So there was some gravitas to that role.

    by mugato5150

Dusk till Dawn was excellent. El Mariachi and especially Desperado were great. I didn't give Once Upon a Time in Mexico a fair chance because I was pissed they killed Salma. I enjoyed the hell out of Planet Terror. I'm not part of the Spy Kids demo but someone must have liked them. So he has a pretty decent track record, IMO.

    by monolith_jones

If there was ever an argument against a word for word adaptation this is it. It's completely lifeless. And the green screens. Jesus Christ why would there need to be green screens used for seemingly everything in a story set in our everyday world. The excuse was that it was stylized like the book but it really wasn't, for the most part it was simple B&W. I had already disliked RR but he really blew it with Sin City. That's not even getting into the awful acting and prosthetics.

    by cobb05

Once Upon A Time in Mexico should've been an epic movie. The big finale of the Mariachi. Instead, you listen to the commentary and RR talks about how he had a month free and decided to make the movie. It seems like he rather make a movie cheap and fast then take the time to really make a good movie. Yes, Sin City was good. But other than that, his last however man movies have been less than they should've been. He'll do the same with machete. Instead of going for a cool, bigger budget movie, he'll do it cheap and sloppy and say that it's the style of Machete.
