Ain't It Cool News (

I am – Hercules!!

No “Parks” this week. Last week’s “The Office,” featuring the return of Jenna Fisher, was one of the weakest ever. And its outtakes aren’t any better. Rainn Wilson confirmed at the SAG Awards that Paul Leiberstein is developing a new “Schrute Farms” series.

Returning tonight:

Swamp People (9 pm History)

Premiering tonight:

Mudcats (10pm History) follows Oklahoma residents who use their bare hands to capture giant flathead catfish.

“Bang” tied “Idol” two weeks in a row.

"The Office" hit a season low last week.

“Up All Night” is doing horribly in the post-“Office” slot.

And have a look at how far “30 Rock” fell last week (A CW show almost beat it!).  "Community" never hit a 1.3 this season!

Bad Robot's "Person of Interest" hit a new personal best last week.  It is a huge dang hit.

    I saw this week's Office

    by walfrid

and it's a good solid episode. The jokes start from the get go and keep firing throughout. It definitely sets up where the next few episodes are going and quite possibly will lead to a few bigger arcs? I was very bored with last weeks, and I'm still upset I don't have new Community to watch, but they're filming and that's a good sign at least. 30 Rock is nice to have back, and I don't care if Community is on tuesday morning, DVR duh!

Mi muchacha de mi corazon. Oh, fantabulous female of the finer finesses. I am anxiously awaiting your vivacious verbs of verity. Rest assured I will shield you from the vituperative vulgarians that try to sully your royal reputation. Aaaargh, who am I kidding? You are the princess of power. You will look at them and they will cower in fear like the callous cattle that they are. You exude extraordinary excellence, a quality seldom seen in a human being. Ignorami fear you, real men admire you and women are jealous of you. I kiss your hand and thank the gods I am witnessing something I never deemed possible: a wonderful wise warrior woman, that should be arrested for stealing my heart. I bow to you, my supersensual and sassy siren.

    Good night for tv

    by chad kuhns

Person of Interest, The Office, The Mentalist, and what might very well be my last attempt at sticking with The Finder. Wish the show was as clever as it thinks it is. Can't really complain too much though, POI is really picking up steam and The Office still has it's occasional great moments. I'm with room23blogspotcom though, Dwight definitely does NOT need a spin off.

If by Monday, you mean yesterday, then you nailed it. Well done. I won't shit all over The Office, but I lost interest after Carell left. Actually, I think it had been spinning its wheels for a while, got a slight creative boost leading up to his sendoff, and then sank like a stone. Okay, I guess I'll shit on it a little.

    The Office

    by Shakes

I have to admit there were a couple of really bad episodes at the start of this season but I think the new dynamic is starting to hit its stride

and why is there a Santorum for President ad on the side of this TB? Interesting demo for them to be reaching for

  • As one of the very few women who participates in these talkbacks, I have been subjected to some of the most vitriolic outbursts of hate imaginable. I am fully aware that some people feel threatened when a woman is in their midst. Suddenly, a lone white knight appeared out of the mist to defend my honor. I was stunned. I was in disbelief. I was shocked to my very core. I could not comprehend that there could be a person of such selfless and valiant character who would willingly fight the good fight on my behalf. Who was this vision of virtuous and noble intent? Who was he that dared to single-handedly do battle with the rapacious forces of darkness? Who was this righteous and incorruptible man that dealt one defeat after another to the evil minions who preyed upon an innocent and chaste woman? His name was BOPNRUMBLE. He shall never be forgotten. Stories will be written about his great deeds. Songs will be sung about his chivalry and courage. Children will iinvoke his name to banish evil in the night. Women will yearn for a man that has just a hint of his qualities. His exploits will be the source of many heroic legends. He is Bopnrumble. Never forget.

    The Office is improving...

    by OldDickLemon

I didn't think last week was terrible at all. Last year ended weakly (Ferrell arc was terrible) and this season began a little shaky, but I think they've really recently found their post-Carrell stride. I'm sure I'm inventing this in my head, but it sure seemed like for the first 1/2 of the season they were using already written "Michael Scott" scripts and just changing the name to "Andy Bernard". The cold open last week though (with the warehouse Footloose recreation) was the first time I felt that Andy was actually written as Andy. I also liked Angela/Dwight bits, it's just Jim and Pam that have become insufferable. They tried to mature the characters a few seasons back (Pam chasing her art dream, Jim wanting to be boss) but have abandoned both of those to return to just non-stop smug smirking, and while it's amusing that it occasionally backfires, it's still a tired bit.

    The Office

    by Nuck81

Even thought anyone who regularly watches the show knew there was no way Angela's baby was anything but Dwights It's finally shifted it's focus and became a full fledged ensemble show. The last few episodes have been pretty funny, with the highlight this season being Pool Party for me. Jim has become a cartoon character but the rest of the cast has picked up the slack. I dig the thought of a Schrute Farms spin-off. Especially if it involved Angela and the new baby, though they should advance it a few years and have it set where the baby is a teen. Dwight dealing with modern problems of todays youth = Gold.

    The Office

    by chad kuhns

I agree with that the show is getting better as the season goes along. The first few episodes really did fall flat for me. To me, the biggest problem with the show is the Jim and Pam characters. Steve Carrell or no Steve Carrell, they've always been the biggest character dynamic within the show. This season, it just seems like the writing for both characters has fallen of, and now both seem like chalk outlines of what they were just a few seasons back. Yes, Dwight is still Dwight, and Andy is finally being written in a way that sets him a bit more apart, but the show is still missing something. I'm hoping the Dwight/Angela/Baby story really lights the spark, as there is serious room for good comedy there.

  • Feb. 9, 2012, 9:36 a.m. CST

    The Office Jim and Pam

    by Secretagentnumber6

As much as I loved Jim and Pam at first. They have become tired. I think the problem with them is that they have become those Obnoxious Parents that no one cares for, constantly shoving their children in your face. The writing for them is just bad. It could still be good, but the writers dropped the ball seriously, Jim's pranks aren't even good any more. When the best prank Jim pulls on an episode is the result of a Con by Stanley and Dwight to make him do it, Jim's character is a failure as is Pam.

30 Rock isn't quite the benchmark sitcom that some might say it is, but I think it's still a damn good show. Yes, it's suffering in the same way The Office is, with stagnant writing, but with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, and the great supporting cast, you can get a great episode out of nowhere.

  • Feb. 9, 2012, 9:42 a.m. CST

    by Secretagentnumber6

I have really tried to like 30 Rock. I just can't. Like I said, it has had an episode where I see brilliance occasionally, but for me they are far too few and far between. I am not a big fan of Fey, never have been, so that does not help. Baldwin is always good, and that does help the show but not enough for me. Just not my cup of tea I suppose.

    by Uncle Pooky

  • ...except for the last 10 minutes of the final episode, one of the dreariest, biggest pieces of shit soap operas masquerading as a superhero series,it has come back to life, as a comic book. This spring, Smallville will resurrect itself as a comic by former story editor and Batgirl scribe Bryan Q. Miller. Yes, like a parasite leaping from host to host, this unkillable soap opera has survived by jumping mediums. From DC Comics' Source blog: The new digital first series will be published digitally on April 13, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly thereafter. Additionally, the online chapters will be offered in a print periodical, along with an episode guide to the hit television series, with the first print issue released on May 16. The new comic book series picks-up where the show left off (with Clark officially now as Superman!) and features other fan-favorite characters including Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane [...] "Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips… enter Season 11!" enthuses Miller. God help us all.

    Lana Lang

    by room23storeblogspotcom

I like Person of Interest, Jim Cavizal- John Reese (Jesus Christ in Passion of the Christ) is an ex CIA agent or something like that and Michael Emerson - Mr. Finch (Ben Linus from Lost) created a machiene that hooks into every device and somehow predicts in advance if someone with be part of a crime. Mr Finch gets a name and sends John out to figure out if the name is the victem or killer and save the victem. Its kind of a real life Batman without the costumes.

And again, ILLL is making fools of all who respond to it.

The Smallville Comic - the fan-favorite characters.

    by I_Love_LanaLang

How is it possible that of the so-called fan-favorite characters, there was nary a mention of Lana Lang? I would be interested in this comic if it's made clear that Lana will play a major role, but if she's not in the comic or she plays a minor role, well, I'm not interested. Remember, the Lana Lang character carried Smallville through the first 8 seasons of the series. When she was essentially written out of the show, Smallville tanked.

You can start now, its one of those shows thats a criminal of the week with little bits of a season arc mixed in. So you might not understand every single nuance, but the overall story of each episode is fairly easy to grab onto. Very few men on here have an issue with women being part of these talkbacks, and to suggest that they do is just reverse sexism. by Jake Pantlin

Look it up - the ratings were posted on AICN, and they showed an increase during the last two years. The ratings went up with male viewers, largely in part to the guest appearances of DC superheroes like Booster Gold and Hawkman, and the popularity of Lois Lane/Clark Kent relationship helped attract both male and female viewers.

Stop being such a querulous quarkbrain. That's no way to talk to a lovely and legendary lady like I_love_lanalang. Stop hating yourself and try to make something of your life instead of being so utterly useless. And please quit using sexual references because you never had any sex to begin with.

I'm Sure I'll Give PoI Another Shot One Day

    by Crow3711

But if it's still as procedural and, even more damningly, predictable as the first four episodes I did watch were, I won't make it, no matter how quality the procedure and acting make it. I liked the show, I liked the characters, it was really badass....but every single time, four episodes in a row, I knew exactly whether the person was a victim or criminal within 5 minutes, what was going to happen, and why. I've seen a shitload of tv, and I don't claim to be terribly good at guessing whats going to happen usually, because most shows are aware of how something seems and write away from that, to surprise you. But PoI failed to surprise me even once, which was why I gave up. If that has changed, someone let me know.

  • It's all small-minded and peurile stuff, but it's been directed my way many times on these talkbacks. I don't constantly "bash actresses I don't like". Rather, I made quality arguments about why I thought the actress who plays Lois Lane on Smallville isn't in the same universe as Kristin Kreuk in terms of acting talent. It's odd that you'd make such a complaint since I see much harsher critiques of various actors, directors, writers, and producers throughout the different talkbacks. Not surprisingly, those critiques are often laced with obscenities and vulgar sexual references. I haven't seen you complain about those postings.

No, I do remember you criticizing Erica D. on her looks just a few weeks ago, and suggesting that she looked like a man(!) To me, that isn't the same thing as criticizing someone on their acting ability. Personally, I think she is a good actress, who happens to be stunning.

ALL of my first issues. One of my biggest regrets is missing FF issues 1 and 2, and I have Amazing Fantasy #15 with Spiderman, but with only a partial cover. I have just about every Marvel comic from the early 60s through the early 70s. I had tons of Golden Age DC as well, but stupidly sold them for a pittance when I was way too young to know better. I am finally ready to start selling them off.

  • Feb. 9, 2012, 2:55 p.m. CST

    by chad kuhns

I feel your pain there. I sold off some early 70's comics way before I understood the worth of comics. I've got a few first issues myself. I'd like to get my hands on FF #1 some day as well. To me the FF really were a symbol of that Golden Era in Marvel.

I'm a bit younger (36) but I grew up in a small town in Couer D Alene, Idaho (small at the time) and so the only comics back then were at the local 7-11 and a few grocery stores. I started around 10 and would ride my bike there to play video games and buy comics. It wasn't until we moved across the border to Spokane, Washington that I was able to find an actual comicbook store and go back and get the back issues. I started with GI Joe then my friend got me into Daredevil which eventually lead to X-Men.

I used to have the first issue that Jim Lee draw of X-Men (somewhere around the 200's) Most of the older stuff though I tried getting the Classic X-Men reprints whenever possible. I had to drop collecting for awile though and since then I sold me comics and have completely converted to the Tradepaperbacks and Hardcovers since its a little cheaper.

Persons of interest and archer FTW!

    by Norman Colson

the rest of the shows on thursday can suck my fucking black dick! Procedural show or not it is awesome. someone said it looked like jim cavizel was batman the new girl is catwoman and mr finch is oracle. all they are missing is a joker... They need a joker or someone to match him. they have good story lines. espcially the hacker one. So now they got Elias and the hacker and the cia guy who are the bad guys... Interesting. Archer is hands down funny and promoting cyril figgis to field agent was awsome, just wish they had more action, no just sparsely each other episodes...

  • NBC, here's some programming advice: swap The Office with Parks and Recreation, then put Community on at 9:30. It's called 'flow'. The Office sucks now, but gets good ratings so would destroy the abomination that is Rob!, Parks and Recreation doesn't suck and is kind of like The Office used to be so it will build on that audience, and people who like great comedies like P&R will then stick around for the brilliant Community, which in a lot of ways is the 'Lost' of comedies, which becomes a perfect lead-in for 'Lost-like' Awake. Up All Night goes back to Wednesday where it did pretty well. And then you can legally go back to calling Thursdays 'Must See TV' again. You can thank me later, Mr. Greenblatt.

  • While there are plenty of sane talkbackers who understand that Ms. Kreuk is quite beautiful, there are certain people who consistently belch out repellent comments about her. The sickest ones zero in on her ethnicity. When I suggested that KK should have remained Clark's leading lady on Smallville, the haters attacked her mercilessly. I've never seen you complain about other people's postings that are riddled with nauseatingly offensive verbiage and hate.

Who would have thought that the reason why Community didn't do well in the ratings was because they were going up against a ratings juggernaut, Big Bang Theory. Well anyone with a brain. Now that 30 Rock is tanking vs. BBT too, maybe NBC will give Community another shot. Probably not. They'll cancel it and keep those two abortions - Whitney and that Chelsea Handler snooze fest.

Temper, temper, temper. Your obsession for I_love_lanalang is taking on ridiculous proportions. What has that wonderful and wise woman ever done to you that made you so angry? You should be grateful she confronted you with your ignorance. Instead of taking her lessons to heart you start going apeshit. Don't blame her for your failures, blame yourself. I am sick and tired of people blaming their shortcomings on others. Man up and grow a backbone. With that I don't mean that Xiphos_2 needs to stand behind you. It is still not too late for you to improve your quality of life, but time will be running out. Enjoy life and try to be the best that you can be. You might even surprise yourself in the long run.

    by Andrew Coleman

Who the fuck watches Rob and The Finder? Retards do. It's time for a change when it comes to ratings. The Office is getting better and I think it's hitting its stride actually after tonights episode. 30 Rock rules. I'm getting tired of the pretty boring hate the show gets. Look if you're too stupid to get the jokes that is your fault don't come on here hating on it. I want Community back on too but I would love to just have back Community, 30 Rock, The Office and Parks. Love all four of those shows. Tired of 60 year olds or whoever the fuck is watching CBS bullshit programming making NBC try and switch things around. Hey ass holes watch good television! Tired of it being about 90% shit most of that coming from CBS minus maybe Criminal Minds.

    by tonagan

And I think his character is big enough of a jerk to do it.

  • Morgan came out as a vicious homophobe, Baldwin reverted to being an arrogant jerk and Fey, while less culpable than either, let herself be branded as "political" thereby alienating the 1/3 to 1/2 of the country that doesn't share her supposed views. Really, with ratings the show now has, the only thing keeping it on the air is NBC not wanting to PO Lorne.

I'm sensing a science fiction thread beginning to emerge in the show Person of Interest. The idea that the Harold Finch actually IS the machine has been floated already. Last night's episode had some exposition indicating Finch's identity is false and his previous identity was false. Makes me think that the is an element of the machine and that his past was planted to give him the illusion of being a human being. If it turns out true, remember you heard it here first!

Ok, so I get why they're going with this plot line, they need a Jim/Pam story that isn't a single episode resolution and doesn't make them look like the boring married couple they've become on the show. They want to find a way to have Jim prove he still loves Pam like he did when they were the heart of the show (pre-wedding). There isn't really any drama to this story though, no one who has followed the show would begin to think he'll cheat on Pam. The only real mystery to this is if it'll simply be a comical uncomfortable Jim trying to get away from her or if she goes all out and he has to get serious. Either way, the writers realized they had to do something to try and elevate the Jim/Pam relationship that has become an afterthought.

  • Feb. 10, 2012, 10:48 a.m. CST

Gotta agree with those trumpeting Person of Interest...

by eldarion's a bit of a slow build but it's quality programming, no question. And yes, it's totally Batman - the black kid they introduced last night is going to be the 'Robin' comparable. Caviezel's character even referred to him jokingly as a sidekick. So Reese = Batman, Finch = Oracle, Carter = Gordon and the little black kid = (the Tim Drake) Robin. Who do you suppose are the comparables in the Batman universe for the villains on the show?

Really fucking tired of Andy - Erin

    by Bass Ackwards

There are sparks on The Office that every now and then makes me think it might be finding its ground post-Carrel. But there's still too much Andy as Michael Scott lite and Andy-Erin as Jim-Pam lite for me, its like Carrel leaving gave the writer's license to hit a reset button and think "hey, nobody will remember we did these kind of stories already on the first few seasons of the show, or that we did them with more character development and nuance, so let's just lazily recycle them!"

Am I the only one that hates Jim & Pam?

    by ZodNotGod

They have wore out there time. The tipping point was the episode where Stanley and Dwight were using him to get what they want. I thought maybe Jim's time was coming up, but they've not really done a follow up to that. The use to be the sane voices in a sea of insanity, now they are just obnoxious yuppies who think they've done a miracle act by having kids. Jim should have been the Office Manager instead of Andy, screwed up really bad and gets fired at seasons end. I hope they leave next season. Comedy blackholes.
