The JETSONS Movie Gets New Writers!!

Merrick here...

The Powers That Be have been efforting a live-action bigscreenification of the Hanna-Barbera JETSONS cartoons for quite a while now...for ten years or more at least.

At one point Robert Rodriguez was attached to helm the project.  A long, long time ago, there were hints/rumors that Chevy Chase would play beleaguered futuristic man-of-the-house George Jetson and Danny DeVito would play his miserly boss Mister Spacely in a long-since-defunct adaptation.  The list goes on.

Now, Variety says that Van Robichaux and Evan Susser have been tasked with scripting another run on the project.  Kanye West recently Tweeted that he was in discussions to serve as "creative director" for a JETSONS movie...presumably he meant this project.

I was just discussing becoming the creative director for the Jetson movie and someone on the call yelled out.. you should do a Jetsons tour

Between Kanye's interest, and the assignment of new writers, clearly this picture isn't entirely dead. We'll see how this new iteration shakes out, and whether or not it'll ever claw its way out of the Development Hell in which it has been simmering.

Rodriguez left the project a while back - perhaps someone other director is orbiting the project at the moment, but if there is one I haven't heard about it. I say:  give it to Jopseph Kosinski, let him work with Kanye (see below), and off we go!

I wonder if Kanye would perform a version of this legendary  theme song for the movie's opening titles?
