THE WOLVERINE's Release Date Is Set...
Merrick here...
THE WOLVERINE, the sequel to 2009's X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, has set a release date - 26 July, 2013.
Hugh Jackman returns to the Logan/"Wolverine" role he assumed in the first three X-MEN films, with James Mangold (COP LAND, KNIGHT AND DAY, 3:10 TO YUMA, and WALK THE LINE) directing. Christopher McQuarrie (WAY OF THE GUN, THE USUAL SUSPECTS) is scripting - LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD's Mark Bomback also worked the screenplay. Bomback is also a scripter on Len Wiseman's forthcoming TOTAL RECALL reinterpretation.
THE WOLVERINE is finds Logan in something of a forbidden love, and squaring off against Silver Samurai.

First one was TERRIBLE
-
I'll be there.
-
Meh. Wish Aronofsky was still attached.
-
judging by those pants and photo I know what kind of forbidden love is in store for old pink claws.
-
Mangolds last movie was the awful Knight & Day. And the dude who wrote the fucking USUAL SUSPECTS script needed his script for this shitshow tweaked by the asshole who wrote Live Free Or Die Hard. They should all be cock slapped by Fassbender.
-
Wolvie is the bear of bears
-
Wolverine, 'forbidden love' and that photo of Jackman in gold slacks, equals, comedy gold.
-
he keeps getting older each movie, even though they are in the past??
-
I remember thinking "they could have fit Wolverine into this scene," and sure enough :)

PS THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK AND SPIDER-MAN WILL SUCK TOO

Wolverine should be literally telling everyone to go fuck themselves.

This is the first I've heard of the character being in the film. I always assumed he would be, given the Japanese setting, but I don't remember anyone actually confirming it.
Is there confirmation somewhere Merrick? Or are you making an educated guess? -

...all the gay jokes about Hugh Jackman, the guy is a real deal charisma off the charts movie star, comes across as a genuinely nice guy, and I'll pay to see him in most any movie.
Except, of course, if he decides to do gay porn. You gotta' draw the line somewhere. -
Doesn't make sense, Merrick boy. He surelt didn´t create the character (was it Len Wein? Anyone?), and he didn´t "create" the role for himself in the movies.
He just interpreted it. What does it take to write in AICN? How many blow jobs are required?

Wolverine is the most under-rated superhero movie ever
by winona_ryders_pussy_juice
haha no, seriously!

. . . and uncluttered since, after the first 5 X-flicks, every stinking mutant in the Marvel-verse has officially been introduced . . .

...horseshit. Who gives a rat's ass. That's not Wolverine. That's the Rock Hudson of our generation pretending to be a super hero hunk, which is shitting on the comic-book version of the character.

Wolverine started out as a dirty scary murdering psycho disguised as a superhero, who than earned everyones love and respect through his journey.

by the green gargantua

-
Mel Gibson. Short, crazy and mean. Even better he could act AND direct the shit out of a kick-ass Wolverine movie.
That said, James Mangold is one of my favorite mainstream big studio directors. He had me at Copland. -
I understand that they had to establish the character/characters in the other X movies but this is the one I've always hoped for. Wolverine+Japan=Success!
I can't wait to see Silver Samurai on screen, and I hope they find a place for Lady Deathstrike in there too.
We can only hope that "The Wolverine" is to "Origins" as "The Incredible Hulk" was to "HULK". -
Have another dude play wolverine, someone that isn't a complete tool... have the hulk make a cameo (in latter movie) and fight each other. Wolverine is a small guy, so cast someone normal height. Hugh is getting up there in the years and if the franchise takes off again, might be good to get some new talent to bring a new up and coming star. have Wolverine be Bone wolverine and reallt dig into his character cuz hes a really dark troubled character and there is alot to work with.

by domi'sinnerchild
And fighting a samurai after he kills the one he falls in love with. I know Frank Miller wrote it, but fuck come up with an original story or use one more recent than the 80's. Maybe have Wolverine build rock'em sock'em robots with his lost son, probably would be a better movie.

i bet there is somewhere a black or japanese guy who is the white guy's friend, maybe betrays him and is killed by the bad japanese guy at some point in the movie.

Ok, I thought X-Men First Class was movie "canon," but Origins wasn't, but ...
by vince_ricardo
... then Logan/Wolverine was IN X-Men First Class, so is this a sequel of Origins or just a new, "canon" Wolverine film? And is the 3rd film movie "canon" or not?
Amazing that the X-Men movie tie-ins have become as convoluted and confusing as the X-Men comic books. ... ok, maybe it's not all that amazing.
Too bad ol' Fred Ward is gettin' up in age. He always had the correct height and temperment for Wolverine. As tall as he is, though, I've never had a problem with Hugh Jackman playin' Wolverine but, man they wimped him out with the whole Jean Grey/Cyclops/Wolverine love triangle awfully fast. -
Wolvie has trouble using chopsticks, so he spears one with his middle finger claw while looking menancing. Sushi chef looks afraid. Audience laughs.

I dunno, maybe it's because I don't know anything about the comics
by mugato5150
but I thought Origins: Wolverine was fairly decent. Maybe Wolverine is over-used in the X-Men films but that's probably because he's the character the audience can relate to the most. Sure he has claws and is pretty much immortal but other than that he just wants just a regular guy. He doesn't give a fuck. He's the everyman among the X-Men.So I don't know, I thought the Wolverine movie wasn't bad.
-
this sounded alot more interesting when Aronofsky was involved, but now it will probably be just as craptacular as the first one.
-
That made me laugh.
-
Just got back.
First I saw Cronicles. Basically cloverfield meets Akira, but fun if you want to see a bunch of damn good superhero fx.
Then I saw the last half of Red Tails. Surprisingly good in the sense that it didn't avoid the darker side of military life. I need to see it again. Definitey some good shit though.
Lastly the Grey. I feel like hating what I just saw. But whatever, I didn't pay for it. Don't pay for this movie unless you're into artsy films.
Oh, and yeah wolverine... don't fuck it up please. -
Someone should compile a list of their user names (most of them are obvious) and post the list in every article. (I said positive things about the trailer, by the way, but I'm not a plant. You can tell because my name is an actual geek reference, while a plant's user name is usually something like "internetnerdnumerouno" or "ilikemoviesandgames" or whatever.)
-
...this movie will be based on the Claremont/Miller graphic novel from the '80s, right? The one that coined the phrase, "I'm the best there is at what I do, etc." If so, it may not suck. That's what the first movie should have been - Wolverine's origin is lame and irrelevant and never should have been revealed anyway.
And they should set it in the '80's, too, just for fun. -
...as Sabretooth was the best thing about Origins. Nailed it, and even though I like Jackman I would love to of seen Liev as Wolverine. Just had the right attitude. I hope they bring him back, though I doubt it. I did quite like Origins, but it just had too many fuck ups: piss poor cgi, no wolvie going berserk, not enough Deadpool, crap ending, optic blasts that don't damage clothes, Supermans adoptive parents popping up, a fucking member of the black eyed peas, bloodless, no Brian Cox...
Still, optimistic about this one. You can't really fuck up Wolverine vs ninjas.
Can you? -

-

-
No, they won't explain it, because the average person knows that unlike Wolverine, the actor playing him actually ages, so moviegoers have to accept that.
Just like people accept the fact that people on Breaking Bad have aged over the past half decade even though show-time is only a year or so, or that the people on Lost aged over 8 years even though they were only on the island for a few.
It's called not being a moron or a troll. -
I recently watched them again, and none of the X-men films hold up. At all. They are really quite boring, with X2 still being the best of the 3, but really not good either.
At least Origins was mildly entertaining and actually had some action in it. Plus Hugh was the most interesting character in all the movies, granted most of the rest got shafted anyway. -
That's what you choose to bitch about? Christ, they got away with the not aging thing with Data for what, 15 years and however long the vampires from Buffy were around. The problem with Wolverine is that he drinks but he obviously can't get drunk. Was that ever discussed in the comics because that would be a good reason for him to be pissed off all the time.

to be fair to the first Wolverine film, there are plenty of xmen issues
by rebel scumb
that are equally bad or worse than it was. It was super contrived, but a lot of the Xmen stuff was, especially the spinoffs and oneshots
the main issue with that film was that it was rushed to release and as a result is basically a rough cut, with unfinished FX and any in many places the temp score used.
There's that one part where his claws look like they were animated for a Nintendo 64. Fox should have delayed the movie and let them finish up. It still wouldn't have been great, but it would not be the embarrassment it was. -

The most perfect person they could have cast as Wolverine would have been....
by blackflowerx
Harvey Keitel about 15 years ago....He would have been perfect.
The film should be the "Kill Bill" of super hero movies x10 (R rated, with waves of blood).
Hugh Jackman is wrong on every level, too "nice boy"looking, too tall, too cheesy. They should make Wolvie a razor blade, small, solid , hairy , nasty mother fucker. Not Hugh "Wolverine the grease years"Jackman.... He's always looked like a fake cunt dressed up as Wolverine. -
Logan is forced by the US goverment to go to Japan and retrieve a Cold war weapon that ended in the hand of the Yakuza controlled by the Silver Samurai. The weapon in question? Omega Red, who remembers Logan from his days at the Weapon X program and blames him for putting him on ice for decades.
The girl Logan falls in love gets killed.
The end.
-
The first "Wolverine" movie was so epically bad that, despite the fantastic James Mangold directing the second movie, I might not be able to see it because Jackman's character is so tainted for me now.
Unless the new film is a dramatic, blade-swinging, R-rated bloodbath of a story, which is what Wolverine fucking DOES, I won't be able to bring myself to see it.
I just won't.
But just like "Prometheus," another R-rated film getting neutered to an insulting PG-13 rating, Mangold's take on Wolverine will also be PG-13. It's Fox, right?
PG-13.
If this is the case, I won't be seeing either movie in the theater. -

Howlett should have been portrayed almost like William Munny was in Unforgiven. He could keep it in check except for whatever trigger mechanism he has, only after the Weapon X project, the trigger is always on.
He could have been a somewhat sympathetic character, but by the third act, any sympathy we felt for him should have dissolved. In a sequel, then we see him gradually getting control of himself again, but just barely. -

by winona_ryders_pussy_juice

Who is the Silver Samurai? Sounds bad-ass. -
I don't know anything about Silver Samurai, but if it's anything like other japanese samurai movies I've watched, the beautiful landscapes of japan, and throwing Wolverine into the mix. I can't see how this movie could possibly go wrong. But I think a movie can't survive on visual effects and great fights alone... I can think of a few recent movies that have proven that. So hopefully they have a great story to back it up.

Japan, Mariko, Shingen, The Hand, Viper, Silver Samurai and Yukio.
by biggusdickus
It's all there in Frank Millers book, so why will it take two 'screenwriters' to inevitably fuck this up?
-
1) The picture is intentionally and stupidly wrong, change it.
2) Like it or not, this charismatic and multi talented actor has made known Wolverine to a wider audience, beyond this close circle made of the most snobbish (and annoying) nerds-devouring-comics.
3) So, as well as Indiana Jones is (and always will be) Harrison Ford, Wolverine is H.Jackman and in the people’s collective imagination will always be him.
-
Granted, the film is a mess on multiple levels (cept for most of the casting - some of which was fantastic) but the very first line Gambit says makes him a fucking moron...
Logan: "I'm looking for Remmy L'boux" (forgive my spelling)
Gambit: "Do I owe you money?"
NOO!! Stupid asshat scriptwriters! The correct logical fucking response is not to tell the person asking who you are!
This is the correct response: "Does this Mr L'Boux owe you money?"
Sorry, yes it's nitpicking on an otherwise terrible script but those few lines just set my teeth on edge every time I hear it. It's as if it wasn't even edited. -
