THE WOLVERINE's Release Date Is Set...

Published at:  Feb 07, 2012 2:22:43 PM CST

Merrick here...

THE WOLVERINE, the sequel to 2009's X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, has set a release date - 26 July, 2013.

Hugh Jackman returns to the Logan/"Wolverine" role he assumed in the first three X-MEN films, with James Mangold (COP LAND, KNIGHT AND DAY, 3:10 TO YUMA, and WALK THE LINE) directing.  Christopher McQuarrie (WAY OF THE GUN, THE USUAL SUSPECTS) is scripting - LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD's Mark Bomback also worked the screenplay.  Bomback is also a scripter on Len Wiseman's forthcoming TOTAL RECALL reinterpretation.

THE WOLVERINE is finds Logan in something of a forbidden love, and squaring off against Silver Samurai.

Doesn't make sense, Merrick boy. He surelt didn´t create the character (was it Len Wein? Anyone?), and he didn´t "create" the role for himself in the movies.

Have another dude play wolverine, someone that isn't a complete tool... have the hulk make a cameo (in latter movie) and fight each other. Wolverine is a small guy, so cast someone normal height. Hugh is getting up there in the years and if the franchise takes off again, might be good to get some new talent to bring a new up and coming star. have Wolverine be Bone wolverine and reallt dig into his character cuz hes a really dark troubled character and there is alot to work with.

Lastly the Grey. I feel like hating what I just saw. But whatever, I didn't pay for it. Don't pay for this movie unless you're into artsy films.

That's what the first movie should have been - Wolverine's origin is lame and irrelevant and never should have been revealed anyway.

And they should set it in the '80's, too, just for fun.

No, they won't explain it, because the average person knows that unlike Wolverine, the actor playing him actually ages, so moviegoers have to accept that.

Just like people accept the fact that people on Breaking Bad have aged over the past half decade even though show-time is only a year or so, or that the people on Lost aged over 8 years even though they were only on the island for a few.

It's called not being a moron or a troll.

Origins:Wolverine better than all the other X-men

    by just pillow talk 2

I recently watched them again, and none of the X-men films hold up. At all. They are really quite boring, with X2 still being the best of the 3, but really not good either.

At least Origins was mildly entertaining and actually had some action in it. Plus Hugh was the most interesting character in all the movies, granted most of the rest got shafted anyway.

    by mugato5150

That's what you choose to bitch about? Christ, they got away with the not aging thing with Data for what, 15 years and however long the vampires from Buffy were around. The problem with Wolverine is that he drinks but he obviously can't get drunk. Was that ever discussed in the comics because that would be a good reason for him to be pissed off all the time.

    Reply to Talkback

  • that are equally bad or worse than it was. It was super contrived, but a lot of the Xmen stuff was, especially the spinoffs and oneshots

the main issue with that film was that it was rushed to release and as a result is basically a rough cut, with unfinished FX and any in many places the temp score used.

There's that one part where his claws look like they were animated for a Nintendo 64. Fox should have delayed the movie and let them finish up. It still wouldn't have been great, but it would not be the embarrassment it was.

Bring the coolest character and take away what makes it cool; showing complete ignorance of why people would want to see it on the big screen in the first place?
Suits at FOX; go fuck yourselves.

  • Harvey Keitel about 15 years ago....He would have been perfect.

The film should be the "Kill Bill" of super hero movies x10 (R rated, with waves of blood).

Hugh Jackman is wrong on every level, too "nice boy"looking, too tall, too cheesy. They should make Wolvie a razor blade, small, solid , hairy , nasty mother fucker. Not Hugh "Wolverine the grease years"Jackman.... He's always looked like a fake cunt dressed up as Wolverine.

    And the story is....

    by garagons

Logan is forced by the US goverment to go to Japan and retrieve a Cold war weapon that ended in the hand of the Yakuza controlled by the Silver Samurai. The weapon in question? Omega Red, who remembers Logan from his days at the Weapon X program and blames him for putting him on ice for decades.
The girl Logan falls in love gets killed.
    The end.

    Umm...

    by cobbelius

The first "Wolverine" movie was so epically bad that, despite the fantastic James Mangold directing the second movie, I might not be able to see it because Jackman's character is so tainted for me now.

Unless the new film is a dramatic, blade-swinging, R-rated bloodbath of a story, which is what Wolverine fucking DOES, I won't be able to bring myself to see it.

    I just won't.

But just like "Prometheus," another R-rated film getting neutered to an insulting PG-13 rating, Mangold's take on Wolverine will also be PG-13. It's Fox, right?

    PG-13.

If this is the case, I won't be seeing either movie in the theater.

So John Barrowman is playing Wolverine now ?

    by keith maniac

He looks more like a fruity Craven the hunter in that photo, he should keep that costume for the movie. Imagine the shot from the last one, where he rises out of the tank, post operation, but wearing that shirt.

    by flibbertygibbet

I'd love to see an older actor playing Wolverine in a standalone movie, and Mel Gibson's as good a choice as any. I can see him in the role.

Of course, I can also see Motorhead's Lemmy as an older Sabretooth, so maybe my imagination is messed up...

Origins was a terrible Wolverine movie

    by aegri_mentis

Howlett should have been portrayed almost like William Munny was in Unforgiven. He could keep it in check except for whatever trigger mechanism he has, only after the Weapon X project, the trigger is always on.
He could have been a somewhat sympathetic character, but by the third act, any sympathy we felt for him should have dissolved. In a sequel, then we see him gradually getting control of himself again, but just barely.

Atleast the Japanese had a good concept with the Wolverine Anime.

    I love the samurai aspect.

    by ghostjason11

I don't know anything about Silver Samurai, but if it's anything like other japanese samurai movies I've watched, the beautiful landscapes of japan, and throwing Wolverine into the mix. I can't see how this movie could possibly go wrong. But I think a movie can't survive on visual effects and great fights alone... I can think of a few recent movies that have proven that. So hopefully they have a great story to back it up.

God save us from snobbish nerds...

    by edbed

    1) The picture is intentionally and stupidly wrong, change it.
    2) Like it or not, this charismatic and multi talented actor has made known Wolverine to a wider audience, beyond this close circle made of the most snobbish (and annoying) nerds-devouring-comics.
    3) So, as well as Indiana Jones is (and always will be) Harrison Ford, Wolverine is H.Jackman and in the people’s collective imagination will always be him.

    Script nitpicking...Wolvie:Origins

    by darth macchio

Granted, the film is a mess on multiple levels (cept for most of the casting - some of which was fantastic) but the very first line Gambit says makes him a fucking moron...

Logan: "I'm looking for Remmy L'boux" (forgive my spelling)

Gambit: "Do I owe you money?"

NOO!! Stupid asshat scriptwriters! The correct logical fucking response is not to tell the person asking who you are!

This is the correct response: "Does this Mr L'Boux owe you money?"

Sorry, yes it's nitpicking on an otherwise terrible script but those few lines just set my teeth on edge every time I hear it. It's as if it wasn't even edited.

  • As in 616 true marvel. Jackman was ok, but 90% of why we love Wolverine was lost.

He is a psycho loner, who is redeemed by his actions when he finds himself slowly becoming part of a family.
