‘How You Doing, Ash??’ Hercules Endorses The Season’s Fourth JUSTIFIED!!

Published at:  Feb 07, 2012 6:37:35 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Justified 3.4 FAQ

What’s it called?
“The Devil You Know.”

Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to Taylor Elmore (“Cottonmouth,” “Brother’s Keeper”). He once contributed the story to a second-season episode of “Star Trek: Enterprise.”

What says FX?
“A daring prison escape puts Raylan on the trail of two of his old adversaries. Boyd confronts a traitor in his inner circle.”

Does the title refer to Boyd’s dim henchman?
It does. The episode literally begins and ends with Devil.

Have we met Raylan’s two old adversaries?
You’ll remember them.

What’s doing with Quarles and Duffy and Ellstin Limehouse?
Quarles is a big part of the Boyd storyline. Limehouse and Raylan meet this week, but not for the first time. Wynn Duffy stays off camera, presumably recuperating from his encounter with Raylan last week.

What of Winona and Ava?
Wholly absent this week. As are Art Mullen and Tim Gutterson.

What else is FX not telling us?
A memorable character we haven’t seen since season two turns up. Much is spoken about Arlo Givens but, surprisingly, he does not appear this week.

Does Dickie Bennett appear tonight?
Yes. Dewey Crowe too.

What’s good?
Quarles, Limehouse and the actors who play them. Raylan’s chat with the prison nurse. The tale of Raylan’s mom. The many callbacks to season two. Raylan’s dealings with a chicken-toting gunman. “A bit of both.” “Won’t be the first time or the last I expect.” “Use the phone in the hotel room!” “Nobody wants to die alone, do they?” “Feel free to blame me.” “One of us needs to open the cooler.” “They sure can be watchful!”

What’s not so good?
No Natalie Zea or Joelle Carter. But they’re back next week.

How does it end, spoiler boy?
“You close your eyes, son.”

10 p.m. Tuesday. FX.

    Seeing Raylan at work

    by truxton spanglers cereal cabal

is better than Raylan at "home."

Gotta have balance, but I like how they haven't done too much of the domestic stuff so far this season.

More screen time for Goggins, Burns, the baddies, and their cohorts is good.

Keeping Goggins was a brilliant idea

    by centilope

And to think they wanted to kill Boyd off in episode 4 of the first season.
Goggins and Olyphant together are solid gold TV.

Justified was my favorite show currently on the air, at least in the drama category. However, I recently finished watching the first four seasons of beaking bad and have to say I now have my favorite show of all time. Who here agrees or disagrees?

Would it really spoil so much to tell us who they are? I guess one is Dickie, maybe the other is obvious but I'm drawing a blank at the moment...

    by bourne7855

man i really liked both seasons of justified but this third season seems to be better than both of them combined so far. i think its the villians this year. theres multiple truly dangerous ones. while i think the actress who played the villian last year was phenomenal, they just seem to have really nailed the pace of everything so far this season. their doing a perfect job of balancing all the multiple story lines and they , so far anyway, have just the right amount of domestic stuff going on without it slowing the show down. i know its only the fourth episode but i think this is turning out to be the best season by far. and yes medster101 i agree with you on breaking bad. best show ever

    by dougmckenzie

That when Emmett showed up in the first episode with that handlebar mustache, that he looked like Peter Dinklage if he wasn't a dwarf?

This show is running two weeks behind in Canada, and it freaking blows seeing you guys discuss it, but not being able to see it for another 16 days.

Why do the driving scenes look so bad?

    by gumbyandpokey

They're probably the worst on TV and there's no reason to look that fake. Good ep tonight, and it helped to have no "home life" interfering with the story.

This is how TV is supposed to be done

    by happybunni

Forget all those shows like Fringe where everyone is saying "It's just slow to start... give it a chance.. 10 episodes in it might get good!". Every show should be like this, it has been fantastic right from episode one and every episode since has been pretty great. If a show takes 10 episodes just to get running, they need to cut down the number of episodes per season by that much. TV is about quality, not quantity.. Look at all these amazing British shows with 6 episodes per season. PS: I love Fringe, and I will always watch it, but their producers and everyone else should learn from this show.

McDonough vs. Boyd....how fucking GREAT is that gonna be?

    by 2for2true

When those two get together, it's going to be an episode worthy of every Emmy on the shelf.

I'm really hoping McDonough makes it through to next season. Those piercing blue eyes scare the bejesus outta me.

    by tinkertiw

    - that this show keeps getting better and better? Last night was another home run. Raylan is back to his season one ass-kicking self. 12 episodes a year just aren't enough.

Is this the darkest episode of Justified or the most earnest?

    by zahaladeen

Suddenly the tone of the show took a tone for the realistic, into the noir. Devil's going out with a mewl (great acting by the by), to Dicky putting two in those dead hooples for street cred (brilliant turn for that character by the way), Harlan questioning the hack after having mauled him with his Crown Vic, to Dewey about to meet a grim and helpless end. Despite the occasional blemish this show is becoming the best on air. Great writing, great acting, great production, great everything. I honestly can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing how this series progresses.

  • I dont put Justified in the same league, but its a very good show that rewards the viewer every week. And its pretty obvious that , along with Elmore Leonard, the show owes a fair amount to Milch et al. But in a more user friendly tv-procedural package. The best "cop" show currently on tv by far.

I agree with you, those greenscreen driving scenes really take me out of the story every week. They're a bit better than they used to be in previous seasons, but still I wish they'd just tow some cars for real. (I do understand that will probably take too much time and money, bit still)

Anyway, it's just nitpicking really, because I'm crazy in love with this show since episode 1. Gonna rewatch the first three episodes of this season right now. GIVE ME A GODDAMN AMEN!!

Really? Devil thinks Johnny is going to go along with that shit? That wasn't the character being stupid, it was the writers thinking the audience is stupid. Not a good sign.
