Here Comes THE GODMOTHER!

Nordling here.
Unfortunate title aside, this is actually a hell of a story. If you've seen the films COCAINE COWBOYS and COCAINE COWBOYS 2, you've heard about Griselda Blanco, possibly one of the most evil, ruthless drug dealers who has ever lived. In the 1970s and 1980s she may have been one of the most powerful as well; it's said that she ordered over 200 assassinations of rivals over the years, and what's even scarier is that apparently she's still on the loose somewhere. She was deported to Columbia, where she lives freely - Wikipedia says that someone got a photo of her at Bogota Airport in 2007, and that's the last anyone has seen of her publicly.
Now, according to Deadline, Branko Lustig (one of the producers of SCHINDLER'S LIST) and Daniela Cretu have started a production company, First Born Films, and will make Blanco's story into a feature film. The script will be written by Frank Baldwin, with no word of casting or director yet, but this story is too good to not be told. As far as directors go, this seems like something Ridley Scott could sink his teeth into, but he's got a lot of potential projects on his plate. And I'd bet actresses would line up for a part as juicy as this. Hope we see this one sooner rather than later.

Guy gets a free pass from way too many folks. He's made two good movies and then a deluge of mediocre ones in his 30 year career. We'll see about Prometheus.
-
Be cool to see her order some dude's head chainsawed off while it's filmed...
-
Atleast Vergara is latin but she is way to hot for this...they would have to "Monster" her up a bit...Bellucci is italian and would have the same problem, and just because pacino can pull that shit off (although i aways thought he was horrible in that movies) doesnt mean bellucci can, she doesnt have the acting chops for that....
-
Alien and Blade Runner are masterpieces, everything else he's done is either good, mediocre or really bad. and yes, Gladiator falls into that camp, it's not the great movie some people like to make it out to be. I would actually Matchstick Men was his best film of the last decade, that's just me though.

I hate it when a movie's title is like hinting at another movie's title.
by Yelsaeb
Like that crappy alien flick the Fourth Kind. Shaun of the Dead's okay though because the movie was a tip of the hat to the zombie genre as a whole. Juan of the Dead is not okay becuase it's referencing Shaun of the Dead, which already did the whole "rhymes with dawn" thing.

Must be.. nobody is that evil or depraved.

just to be controversial..and downright wacky!!

wtf ? Alien Blade Runner Thelma & Louise Black Hawk Down American Gangster Gladiator c'mon now TB's are full of ridiculous today.

Big problem w/ casting lead role. With a minority lead role you just know certain demo's will go ape shit w/ whoever get's cast.

Monica Belucci and Sofia Vergara? The fuck are you guys smoking?

This women was a troll of a woman her entire life. Overweight, ugly, poorly dressed, caked on nasty make-up. I'm thinking Luis Guzman in drag, but they'd have to ugly him up a bit.

For a moment there, I thought this was like the Evil Dead remake deal:
by hank henshaw
A remake of The Godfather, but with a female lead.
-
how about the muslim mom from season 5 or 6 of 24. I'm too lazy to look it up. Marshawn's wife might have been her name? She needs to look old, like a grandmother, but also have an intensity
-
AMEN!!! REFN should ABSOLUTELY direct this! Or the obvious Tarantino, if he can pull back on his style a little, make it straight forward..
-
You're just another boring, trolling cunt.
-
On Denzel Washington and his insatiable need to be the hero in all of his movies, even when he's playing a lowlife piece-of-shit scumfuck drug dealer and murderer. Him and his fucking Cheshire Cat grin are usually too much for me to bear and he inevitably ends up ruining the film. Man On Fire is really the only movie I liked him in, as I can recall. John Q, not bad either. That's about it.
-
an this film will never get made while the lady in question is still alive, she don't want the publicity and the various law agencies and politicians around won't want their ineptitude displayed. Maybe in 10 or 15 years time when those in the know have retired or....dissapeared. oh an get a red head to play her (not harry) giggle..

Sych a bad title that, when I saw the headline, I thought it was another Tyler Perry film...
by Stegman84
Yes, that may have been her nickname or whatever, but that still doesn't make it a good title. Interesting story though.
-
No problem. The troops ARE heroes. Because of their sacrifice for a couple of hundred years, cretins like you have the right to come on here and bleat your *opinion*,patently stupid though it may be. And I called you a troll because your post was designed to be nothing but inflammatory rhetoric. I called you a cunt because it fits.
-
That's Denzel's best movie? That randomly overlay moded drug-inspired two hour montage? Not Malcolm X, not Training Day or He Got Game or Glory or the Hurricane... Man on Fire?
-
He said Brian Cox would really be good in the roll.
-
His performance in MALCOLM X was easily one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) biographical performance in the history of cinema. Who the hell uses Man on Fire to rate Denzel? that movie was a flash in the pan. Unfortunately Denzel too often plays Denzel in his movies....instead of a character. The GREAT DEBATERS was one of Denzel's best. is a brilliant story and very underrated--I recommend it highly American Gangster was garbage, IMO, because it was so far from the truth. The true story is so compelling on it's own, why would you change it for the screen? Definitely a major disappointment for me.

I Agree ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER are Ridley Scotts only 2 masterpieces
by smokie
So what's the complaint? Having 2 masterpieces on your resume is pretty fucking impressive. And rare. How many directors can you say that about? Thelma & Louis was pretty damn good in its own right as well. I would lump the rest of his movies together in the mediocre - well done category. I do think Scott should steer clear of crime drama. That's IMHO.
-
If you haven't seen it, watch it. "Kingdom of Heaven" Director's Cut is pretty great as well.
-
Wikipedia says whereabouts unknown. And she's ugly as sin. But I swear this is the mother of Arnold Schwarzenegger's bastard child. After being repatriated to Columbia, a coyote brought her back. She got a Job as Arnold Schwarzenegger's maid. They did lotsa coke. Then she had his baby. There lies the real story.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't soldiers kill people? Oh wait, it's okay because they do it for a righteous cause.
-
. . . I've never heard of her before. Didn't even know Cocaine Cowboys existed. I'm not sure what the tone of this will be. In order to do a Scarface-type story about the rise of a mob boss, it sort of needs for them to die in the end. Unless they're the good guy, which is hard to imagine in this case.

Why are stories about evil, manipulating, narcisistic, sociopaths stories that are "too good not to be told"?
by Ingeld
Are we meant to see them as cautionary tales or are they some kind of celebration and validation of their perversions? Is it because we secretly admire people who bend the system and flout the rules to serve their own will? Do they represent a kind of wish fulfillment? Why are we entranced by the Godfather? Goodfellas and all the underworld crime films? Strangely, we don't walk away despising these murderous, law breaking thugs. We may shake our heads a little, but only a little.

Gladiator was the last great R rated sword slash epic. Troy had fun stuff but gladiator was balls out nasty. In fact I challenge any one of you to tell us what you don't like about gladiator.

Yeah, I dont understand the backlash against Gladiator in recent years, it was awesome entertainment
by FreeBeer
-
Casting, acting, script, music, pacing, scale, editing, etc. Except for the infamous Levi's wearing horse wrangler shot, and the equally infamous chariot tank gaffe, it was a flawless piece of entertainment.
-
...but maybe that's because she's on every other damn television commercial. It would be perfect stunt casting...haven't seen her in a dramatic role, however.
-
with black penguin drool.
-
Seems kind of sexist to restrict this part to a female. Not sure what type of sex parts you have has any bearing on a good story. Michael Fassbender would kill in this role. If you want to go for someone older Harvey Keitel has been on the hunt for a good script.

Who the fuck said Queen Latifah. Nothing wrong with her but she's not latin or anything close.
by Tikidonkeypunch
Though Hollywood would pull a Spanish or Italian actress. Wouldn't be surprised if they did use a straight white actress. But I draw the line on Queen Latifah. Might as well have Will Smith play Pablo Escobar. Oh god I think I gave him another idea.
-
Her vagina apparently has limitless power, based on the inexplicable longevity of her career. She's perfect for this movie.

seriously its retarded thoughts like that which make every fucker just hate america(or at least what it stands for), you do make great movies and tv though, though what else do you contribute to the world?(o yes mcdonalds, cheers!).

Seriously? What is the point of glorifying this sick bitch's life? She was a low life piece of shit that sold drugs and murdered people to buy shit. There a like a million people with far more interesting stories to tell.
-
"But I draw the line on Queen Latifah. Might as well have Will Smith play Pablo Escobar. Oh god I think I gave him another idea." Not that QL should play her BUT no one said a word when Zoe Saladana a Dominican played Nyota Uhura in Star Trek which was a huge role for a Black woman at that time AND the first interracial kiss.
-
Because shes an ugly crackwhore. Anyone that thinks Gladiator sucked is a pompous ass. America brought forth the nuke, if you dont like America shut the fuck up or you can get one up your ass at no charge. Glory and Training Day were Denzel's best films. I like to date women that sell drugs and kill people.
-
He murdered an old lady his mom was friends with when he got caught robbing her of her life savings so that he could have a big payday to get back in Tony's good graces.
-
Although IMO you could do the whole Cocaine Cowboys docs as a dramatic film, the Griselda "Godmother" part of the story is extremely compelling. Sure, we may have seen it all before (the rags to riches immigrant out for the big score and the undercurrent of indictment of the United States for being "unfair" b/c it I don't know...doesn't like drug dealers), when it was called "Scarface", but trust me, if they keep all the story elements in there of Griselda Blanco going from a dirt poor adolecent in a kid gang to the number one distributor of cocaine on the West Coast, it will be worth it.

Hey jerkoff, when the US fought 2 world wars to prevent the german takeover that equates to freedom fighting
by JackSlater4

Feb. 4, 2012, 8:15 p.m. CST
The USA fought 2 World Wars in order to position itself to replace the British Empire ....it had nothing to do with freedom fighting
by smokie
it just so happened that they were fighting against some real baddies (in WWII ). But make no mistake about it, it was fought on behalf of American imperialism. Don't be naive. War is almost never fought for freedom, it's fought for ambition. It is a well known fact that the Japanese attack in Pearl Harbour was known by US intelligence well in advance. Letting it happen is what convinced the american people to jump into the war. Don't believe me, look it up. Hmmm ..... kind of similar to the events at the beginning of THIS century. Whatya know?
-
Manuel Noriega in drag? Nice hat.
-
was supposed to be made into an HBO series, but I guess Boardwalk Empire is filling their crime centric slate. too bad.
