AWAKE, This Season’s Best Broadcast Pilot, Gets NBC’s
Old ER Slot March 1!! THE FIRM To Burn Off On Saturdays!!
After airing only four episodes in the Thursday 10 p.m. timeslot, NBC is yanking “The Firm” and consigning the balance of its 22-episode episode order to 9 p.m. Saturdays.
The old "ER" slot will be filled through the balance of February Sweeps by "Grimm" reruns.
Taking over the the 10 p.m. Thursday slot starting March 1 is “Awake,” the strange and fascinating tale of a cop (the great "Harry Potter" fixture Jason Isaacs) who finds himself transported between two parallel realities following a deadly automotive mishap.
“Awake’s” first episode, scripted by “Lone Star” creator Kyle Killen, is the best broadcast pilot I’ve seen this season.
“The Firm” was getting even worse ratings than “Prime Suspect,” the Maria Bello cop drama that filled the 10 p.m. Thursday slot last autumn.

You know what show would be a great lead-in for Awake? Community.

Community at 9:30 starting March 1st. Make it happen NBC.

PLEASE let this be good and PLEASE let it get good ratings
by CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS
I really like the look of this and am a big Isaacs fan!

Ever since ER ended, Thursday nights after 10 have sucked! For instance: Southland (now on TNT) Jay Leno show (cancelled because Leno isn't funny) The Marriage Ref The Apprentice Outsourced Prime Suspect and now... The Firm Remember when Thursday night was Must See TV on NBC? I rest my case!

NBC: my pitch for Dr. Lawyercop, USMC is still available
by Margot Tenenbaum
Also available Mrs. Lawyercop, ME has Kate Mulgrew attached. Just saying.
-
Now let's all hope that NBC plays this right that they 1. Keep this in the Thursday time slot 2. Leave it the heck alone and let it mature and develop an audience ( which it will) And most importantly 3. Don't start screwing around moving it to various spots on the schedule mid season. I hate when networks do that. Oh and pay Issacs whatever he wants because he is worth it.

Hope you all conform to the code of conduct!

That is all.

Well, except for one. *No sitting in front of people if you're tall.* Ahem. Your faulty genes are not my problem. Don't sit behind ME is more like it, asshole.
-
Beeing tall isn't too bad, just don't wear a big hat.
-
when it was called Life On Mars.
-
It was called Life on Mars and ABC canned half way through the first season. I smell another failure... The NBC bullshit streak continues.
-
I think I blabbed a while back about a story idea much like this. One guy. Two lives. Each lived in the others dreams when he's asleep. Both equally as vivid. Both lives completely different. And the guy has to decide which one is real and which one is a dream. And on both sides a doctor insists the other is a vivid dream and offers him treatment to get rid of the other life.

Yeah, it's a scifi lesson we should all have learned by now...
by V'Shael
If you're dealing with two different realities, and one of them is DEFINITELY fake, and you can't tell them apart? They are both fake. And the real reality is something else you haven't seen yet. Whether it's SG-1 as Firemen, or a pregnant Amy Pond in Leadworth, we should know this by now.
-
It might NOT suck ASS...
-
Two realities, can't tell 'em apart, one of 'em fake... Oh they're both fake. We're actually on a mission to the actual planet Mars in the mid 21st century. I'm telling you. This has been done a million times before.
-
Always liked issacs, long before potters... can't wait, march 1st feels far!
-
I mean seriously. NBC is ridiculously bad at making tv....you know...that thing THAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO.
-
What would NBC's ratings be if they dug up all their shows from the 1980s that were shot on film, transferred them to HD, and aired them in their original time slots. It sure as hell would be better TV. Hell, they could even play Tom Brokaw's 1980s news for all I care.

How his career didn't skyrocket after his fantastic turn on the under-rated Brotherhood still amazes me to this day. I mean he's had a solid career, and never seems short of work, but man, he's one of those guys who deserves higher profile roles and bigger opportunities, as he always delivers the quality. Always thought he would have made a kickass James Bond as well, but I suppose that Daniel Craig has done the Dalton/Connery mix tape take on the role now, which is how I kind of pictured an Isaacs Bond would be...
-
This is not like Life On Mars at all, but it is a lot like 'Passion Of Mind' starring Demi Moore and written by Ron 'Rainman' Bass. But only Ron, Demi and I know this, because we're the only ones who have seen the movie.
-
and this is such a bad time of year to launch a new show. I predict cancellation followed by cult status. I hope they are smart enough to make episode 13 a pseudo series finale.
-
Jason Isaacs would have rocked as Loki, don't you think?
-
Premise sounds quite a bit like the graphic novel by Matt Kindt called Revolver. I highly recommend people checking that one out. The writing is great and the art is top-notch. I kinda wish this show was based more on that book instead of this, but Jason Isaacs is terrific, so I'll give it an episode or two. I do love that line at the end, "I have no desire to ever make progress."
-
The trailers looked very good for this. I don't know about The Firm, but Awake definitely deserves a good slot.
-
I had already forgotten about that shit fest.
-
Really found Awake superior? Though David Slade has some skills...
-
And I'm sorry to see it getting cancelled. I think it tried to do too much in each episode. I can understand why it did not catch on with folks.
-
I wonder if NBC will actually air all episodes on Saturday or, after two weeks, replace it with L&O repeats and tell those of us who are still watching to go see it at NBC.com. NBC did that with Kidnapped. Basically, for the few million still watching the show "live", those actually enjoying the show and even hooked on it, NBC felt the best thing to was tell them "go watch it online". Brilliant. Force your loyal TV viewers to use an alternative method of watching shows and then, what, hope they only do it when they absolutely have no other option?
-
I'm already worried about its chances. New shows never seem to have a shot at surviving the 10pm time slot anymore.
-
...and we all remember how fast they yanked it anyway. Hopefully, they won't make the same mistake.
-
I'll pass, thanks. <P>When does TWD and Breaking Bad come back on?
-
and it's a billion times better than the dreadful Community.
-
Nothing against Community but even if wasn't cancelled they should but a show with low rating in front of this one. From the 5 minute trailer I'm going to love to show and I want to have the best shot to succeed! Lets do the right thing NBC!

And I'm kinda glad the Firm is getting cancelled even though I LIKE what I've seen and here's why...
by Dogmatic
I haven't been able to watch it consistently, and it is a continuous plot show so you get lost easily. But, ALSO, it is not a show that can sustain itself season after season I think. Cancelling it this early out with a guaranteed 22 episode season means they havent written and filmed everything by far...so they can actually END it. So, I will skip the eps from here on out and buy the The Firm dvd set when it comes out and enjoy like a 16 hour long The Firm 2 kinda film starring Josh Lucas.

...why NBC (and all other major networks) firmly believe the public has no desire to watch comedy after 10:00PM at night. FX has proven that fans of Sunny and The League will switch over from 2 hours of comedy on NBC to see another hour of edgier, more adult fare on their network. Do they think we have no interest in comedy after 10:00 PM? How about this line-up: 8:00PM - Community 8:30PM - Up All Night 9:00PM - The Office 9:30PM - Parks & Rec 10:00PM - 30 Rock 10:30PM - Parenthood Just a thought.
-
Or is it an adaptation of the Mars sequel, 'Ashes to ashes'? Or is it just derivative as shit?
-
Only problem with your list - Parenthood is an hour-long show. So either something else has to go, or you need to fill a half hour. Around this time last year, NBC did have a 3-hour comedy block on Thursday 8:00 - Community 8:30 - Perfect Couples / Paul Reiser Show / Office Repeats 9:00 - The Office 9:30 - Parks & Recreation 10:00 - 30 Rock 10:30 - Outsourced
